I would like to take this moment to ask you all (again) to join me in an invocation:

P.S. this post is pissing off all the right people :)

Dear Lord,

Please fuck the republicans. No seriously, fuck them hard, sideways and in unnatural manners that cause them, even a year from now, to wince and waddle every time they turn on Fox news. For verily I say, they are the most slappable of douches. Really, please God, give their prayers as much notice as they would give a poor person's prayers.

They are backwards and rape your creation. Hell, as you know, they have a lot of issues with rape (and not acting like ignorant pigs over it) as it is. After all, women and the poor and the brown aren't really people to them.

They hate America and think nothing of crippling her for their own gain. They are sleazy con men and hypocrites who bang on your Book while being the most smug and heartless of dicks. They are so dumb they think people once rode dinosaurs (when they aren't denying that dinosaurs are real).

They will cause war and poverty and famine and collapse, all so that their scions can have yet more money and they scoff at the idea of doing their share. They put their grubby boots on the necks of those who actually work and create things.

They are cowards. They think nothing of other people dying for their country, and they refuse to help veterans. Everything they touch turns soulless. Please God, let not this nation waste into plastic. Of course, they are happy to take money themselves from the government. Romney never mentions how it was federal money that bailed out the Olympics. But I digress, God.

Please just fuck them. Use your smiting powers and do it hard.

Can I get an Amen?

It was a conversation-starter for my mom to explain why voting matters, and an extortion point to nag my dad to make sure he voted too.

Oh, fuck you, Kirk...you sanctimonious gasbag.

Ever notice how those people who go really overboard on their vices and addictions tend to go REALLY overboard in the other direction if they "find Jesus" and become "born again" while drying out? They then tend to have a perpetual corn cob up their asses and never miss an opportunity to tell everyone else that they're gonna go to Hell.

Kirk, you just traded the addictions of your youth for an addiction to God, a God that doesn't exist outside the Old Testament or your wingnut brethern's imaginations.

What really bothers me about this sort of thing is the disconnect between what these folks say they want-and when they get it, it upsets them.

In this case, they want to stave off the End Times. Why? Don't they get Raptured and hang out at the right hand of the Father while the rest of us suffer? Don't they want Christ to reign in glory?

Then there's "Obama is gay". So if that were true what are gays supposed to do, anyway? Work hard to be straight, get married, have a family...

Republicans have done such a fantastic job fucking up government that I almost want to agree with how useless it is...

Hundreds of Pinellas voters get robocall from supervisor of elections saying Election Day is Wednesday

ST. PETERSBURG — An hour after polls opened Tuesday morning, the Pinellas County Supervisor of Elections Office mistakenly placed hundreds — possibly thousands — of automatic calls to voters instructing them that they had until 7 p.m. Wednesday to vote.

But that is wrong. Polls close at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Any ballots turned in after that time won't be accepted.

I heard a really good analogy with respect to climate change and storms that might work with Joe Average. It's like steroids in baseball. You can never say a particular good hit or home run was the direct result of steroids, just like you can't say what would have happened with a particular storm. However, it is pretty obvious that the stats from the steroid era were out of line with the norm. Likewise, storms are now on steroids...

A little voting report from the metro Atlanta suburbs:
I voted last week,I was in line for about an hour and a half. Voting itself took about maybe 5 mins.

The Husband went to vote at our precinct this morning. It is NEVER crowded. In 15 yrs that we've lived here, the longest wait was maybe 10 minutes. The Husband called me after he voted and said he was there for well over an hour. I'm not sure what that means, but this might be record turnout for our area. When I took the dog for a walk, the other polling place near us was busy, but no line out the door. It's still busier than I've ever seen it.

Our little stickers have the GA peach logo and say I'm a Georgia Voter on them. I wish they'd update it.

This stuff annoys me more than straight creationism. At least it is forwardly honest in its choice to believe in something that runs counter to the discoveries of science about the universe and its contents. Tossing out some dubious fact like some sort of cosmic "gotcha" that will bring all of science tumbling down is massively dishonest since they don't believe in science in the first place - so cherry picking from it just reinforces the fact that they are not interested in truth (or TRUTH for that matter.)

The nearby Van Gogh museum is presently being worked on so most of the collection, the top pieces anyway, have moved temporaraly to the Hermitage Amsterdam.

And around the corner of the Stedelijk there's the Rijksmuseum. This is a must. You cannot pass Amsterdam and not have seen the Nightwatch.

Chrysler gives workers day off to vote after rhetorical war with Romney

For the last two weeks, American automaker Chrysler has been trying to make one thing abundantly clear to the public: No matter what Mitt Romney’s ads claim, they are not moving production to China. And on Tuesday, they’re sending the whole workforce to make that point to Mitt Romney himself.

“Chrysler gave its entire work force the day off to Vote Today!” Ralph Gilles, Chrysler’s vice president of production, said on Twitter. “Let’s go!”

The move frees up more than 55,000 workers to go to the polls and vote for their candidate of choice. While some are sure to vote for Romney, polling in Ohio — where many of Chrysler’s employees live — has consistently shown that Obama retains an advantage in the state because he rescued the auto industry.

I do not like the Presidential elections being held at a fixed time every 4 years. As a result, politicians are nearly in constant campaigning mode and not focused on the real issues facing the country.

Election cycles are too long. In Canada there is no law assigning a maximum for the length of time a campaign can run, but consider this: The longest recorded election campaign in Canadian history was only 74 days. No, that is NOT a typo.

Also, I'm very much in support of ditching the primaries system and finding a better way to nominate candidates for the general election.

I think that voting machine is going to lead to an arrest. Anyone who has software programming experience understands coordinate mapping. The way those boxes are mapped is with standard coordinates, let's say for the sake of argument each candidate box is 25x100. My guess is the Romney/Ryan box is closer to 45x100 while the Obama one is 5x100 (according to the guy who posted the video, he's a software engineer and he repeatedly voted until he found a pixel that recorded an Obama vote. All the other candidate boxes functioned correctly.

The primaries came about as a way to democrat-ize the candidate selection process away from the machine bosses in the back rooms and at the party convention. Of course from there the calendar starts scattering them as state try to grab a spot that makes them more influential and more likely to get the candidates to visit and campaign there. (Since if all the primaries were held in a very short period of time the states with the low numbers of convention votes would then be left in the cold.)

There should be a set time for a campaign to get it's message out, depending on the time between elections for the office in question. It's become too much about raising money and not enough about the people being represented. I also believe in campaigns being publicly financed with a set limit on that,as well as equal time on tv and radio being given at discount rates for ads. There should be more debates once the candidates are chosen too.

I wanted to ask this the other day and forgot,so here goes. What would happen if the Electoral College votes were split in each state instead of winner take all? It seems like it would be more fair. Say you have 5 million voters in your state and 1 million vote for one,4 million for the other. If you had 10 EVs then it would go 8-2 instead of 10-0. Would that mess things up?

You know, at some point, he is gonna start a Kickstarter and he is gonna send the link to you first.

He's too busy answering every single Tweet to text you back from across the table.
"Date night" is "a meal with every hungry-looking person you pass on the way to the restaurant night."

He is too tired from personally repairing the city's infrastructure for sex.

You'd never be able to just do a quick grocery store run because Cory would have to make sure every person in the Cost Cutter didn't need help getting their bags to the car/a ride home/someone to pay for their kid's college tuition.

Every time you tried to go to Manhattan for a night out, you end up driving people who missed their transit connection/couldn't get a ride. Of course, he does not accept tips.

You have to start keeping your spare clothes at the office instead of his place, because he forgets those sweaters are yours and gives them to cold people.

Regularly racing into non-burning buildings because someone was frying a turkey in giant oil vat. Cleans up the mess, properly cooks turkey, stays for dinner, but only eats sides as he's vegetarian and his body is a temple.

He just cannot stop taking stray animals to Animal Care and Control; his car smells like wet raccoon and he's constantly getting rabies and tetanus shots.

It would SUCK.

The sparsely populated states with only one congressional district already have disproportionate influence; if we did it that way you're talking it would be even wrose. California's block of 55 might split 33-22, and would only be worth a net 11 (while Wyoming and Montana and Alaska would still have their 3 each). Pennsylvania would probably go 12-8 instead of a chunk of 20; Illinois and New York and...

The huge blocs are the states with big cities; you'd be totally diluting them.

It would depend on a few things. Proportional, or by subdivided region? If it's proportional, what's the rounding break - especially when you toss in a third party? Related, how much is needed to get at least one EV?

All it takes is a few people with ill intent in the right places to mess it up.

re: #175 danarchy

I am guessing the touch screen is miscalibrated, if they clicked the box a half inch below where they were it would probably check the right box. Apparently machines in Kansas and Ohio were taken offline because they were doing just the opposite, checking obama when people selected Romney.

The person who filmed that says he checked all the other parts of the screen and they all functioned correctly. It was just one area - the Obama/Biden area - that was recording votes for Romney. That's not miscalibration, it's code.

As far as 'apparently KS and OH' have machines voting for Obama, I'll wait until the MBF provides video evidence before I believe it.

If you were trying to programatically steal votes this would be the worst possible way to do it. You would have it just show correctly on the screen but record in the database for the other guy. Why show people what you are doing?

A record turnout in Philly. A few bumps like a mural of our current president in a polling area. And some very anal retentive people who are demanding that the minority inspector be a member of the minority party (here in Philly that is the Republicans). I will try to give a report later this evening.
