Election Night Open, Thread Three

In the early stages, Obama leads
Politics • Views: 24,625

Still way too early to make any realistic predictions, but Ohio is looking really good for Obama right now. Only 2% of the vote reported, but Obama is leading by 57.3% to Romney’s 41.5%.

Florida is much closer, but with 39% of the vote reported, Obama has the edge with 50.6% to Romney’s 48.6%.

OK they got more results in, POTUS is comfortably ahead, and the Bridge Troll is getting clobbered.

It's the Bubble. No air circulation.

Fortunately after a while, bubbles burst. Another 10-20 years in the Electoral Wilderness, left behind by the rest of the country, should do them some good.

Folks on FR are not happy about Fox's election coverage (they've noticed things aren't quite as rosy as Dick Morris said...) One comment:

Don’t be fooled. FOX is nearly as left as the rest of the media.
They’re probably unhappy that Obama is losing.

Let us take a moment to mourn the extinction of a political species, the Blue Dog. Hunted to the verge of extinction in 2010, one of the last ones that I am aware of, my friend Ben Chandler, has just been bagged by Tea Partyer Andy Barr in the 6th Congressional District in Kentucky. Millions was spent by outside groups to take him down.

It's worth noting that this is really key. It's really hard to buy a Presidency or a lot of Senators, as we're seeing today. But House seats are pretty cheap, and give a lot of power for your money.

The Presidency and Senate don't look like changing hands, but America's political power is still very much for sale, and a lot of unpleasant people have deep pockets.

In every presidential election since 1960, the candidate who prevailed in
Florida’s Hillsborough County, home to Tampa, has also prevailed in Florida. There is no guarantee that the pattern will hold in 2012, but the Tampa region is critical in carrying the Sunshine State (which is why the Republican Party held their national convention there this year).

More than 80 percent of the vote has been reported in Hillsborough, and President Obama leads Mitt Romney by five percentage points. Mr. Obama, as we have written, is likely getting a push from Florida’s fast-growing Hispanic community. In Hillsborough, Hispanic residents have grown by 71 percent since 2000, now accounting for a quarter of the county’s population.

Mr. Obama is also leading in another Florida bellwether, Pinellas County, Hillsborough County’s eastern neighbor. In Pinellas, 99 percent of the vote has been reported, and Mr. Obama is edging out Mr. Romney 52 percent to 47 percent.
