Karl Rove on Obama’s Dastardly Voter Suppression Scheme

DARVO
Wingnuts • Views: 31,655

After all the GOP attempts to hamper voting by the elderly and minorities in this election, Karl Rove tells the Fox News audience that Mitt Romney lost because the Obama campaign “suppressed the vote.”

Technically, Mr. Rove is correct. Obama did suppress the vote for Romney, by convincing people to vote for him instead of Romney.

An absolutely diabolical plot. There oughtta be a law.

Gary Bauer: GOP Could Have Won if it Emphasized Opposition to Marriage Equality, Abortion Rights

Karl Rove’s American Crossroads and Crossroads GPS spent hundreds of millions of dollars to defeat Obama and swing the U.S. Senate to the Republicans. After failing at both of these goals, Gary Bauer in an interview with Janet Mefferd chided Rove for not using his Crossroads juggernaut to focus on social issues. According to Bauer, if only Republicans like Rove emphasized the GOP’s opposition to abortion rights and gay equality, then maybe Republicans might’ve won after all!

Somehow, I don't think the guys whose money he lost are gonna accept excuses like this.

I am grateful to Karl Rove. Not only did he separate a lot of rich assholes from their money with virtually nothing to show for it, he provided the only drama on election night!

Because marriage equality didn't just win in every state where it was on the ballot. But hey, opposing it is a winning issue, don'tcha know.

These people are living in an alternate universe.

Well, if they had a real Christian conservative as a candidate, the Christian vote wouldn't have stayed home, because that totally has to be the only reason they lost.

After Obama’s Re-Election, Religious Right Demands Repentance and Resistance

Dejected, downcast and angry, conservatives have begun attacking the media and other Christians for not signing on to the anti-Obama campaign, maintaining that Obama’s re-election proves that America is experiencing moral breakdown. Family Research Council head Tony Perkins told talk show host Janet Mefferd that the election results reveal “symptoms of a deeper moral and spiritual problem that we’re facing in our nation,” and beseeched Christians not to just “go on the mountaintop and just wait for the Rapture.”

Wrong answer guys. You failed the blood god and you must now castigate yourselves. I sentence you to exile in the hinterlands to live lives of reflection and flagellation for your many failings.

Charges: N. [Minneapolis] metro pastor fondled 2 men while counseling them about their sexuality

A north metro pastor who participated in a ministry devoted to helping people put their homosexuality behind them has been charged with sexually assaulting two men he was counseling.

Lakeside Christian Church's senior pastor, Ryan J. Muelhauser, 55, of Cambridge, appeared in court Tuesday on eight felony counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct and remains free ahead of another hearing next month.

Muelhauser also was a counselor through Robbinsdale-based Outpost Ministries, whose website says it was founded more than 30 years ago to help men and women "break away from gay life" and declares that "all homosexual behavior is sin."

...

One of the men told investigators that Muehlhauser "blessed" him by cupping his genitals outside of his clothing several times and that Muehlhauser asked the man to masturbate in front of him for "spiritual strength." Muelhauser would also fondle the man at times. Their encounters occurred over a period of nearly two years.

Wilson: God will Curse America for Re-Electing Obama

Yesterday, Buster Wilson of the American Family Association said that God will punish and curse America for re-electing Obama over his supposed mistreatment of Israel. He also lamented that health care reform will not be repealed and that if Obama has the opportunity to appoint new justices to the Supreme Court then Roe v. Wade will not be overturned any time soon. Later, he added that “homosexuality and the demand for protected and equal rights will now succeed and sweep the nation” as schools will teach children “as young as kindergartners that homosexuality is an accepted lifestyle.”

Apparently the curse takes the form of a bunch of self righteous assholes screaming doom and wasting our time.

Kerry lost the presidency by fewer than 140,000 votes in Ohio. The way Obama figured out he could defeat these GOP efforts was mass mobilization through an organized ground game.

House Speaker John Boehner said tax hikes are an "unacceptable" solution to avoiding the so-called "fiscal cliff," but new revenues are on the table.

"I would do that if the president was serious about solving our spending problem and trying to secure our entitlement programs," Boehner told ABC News. "If you're increasing taxes on small-business people, it's the wrong approach."

Margaret and Helen: Like a zoo, Fox News isn’t so scary once you realize the animals can’t get out of their cages.

Just like when I go to a regular zoo, I didn’t know the names of all the animals at Fox, but I quickly learned the ones with opposable thumbs and the ability to reason were token Democrats who had, at some point, worked in the Clinton administration. The ones who liked to rattle their cages and screech at the visitors were the angry Republican hacks who seemed to be, for the first time, discovering the wonders of math.

I was surprised to see so many animals that I thought were long ago extinct. There was angry, old Lou Dobbs plodding around mumbling something about voter fraud and immigrants and Mike Huckabee being all folksy and jolly. And there was Oliver North, Liz Cheney, Haley Barbour and even Geraldo Rivera who now just goes by Geraldo like Madonna, Cher and Cavuto.

Over in a corner in a cage all by himself was the red-assed Karl Rove. Now that one scares me. When they called Ohio for Obama I heard he started flinging pooh and screaming about recounts and faulty polls.

Seriously, from all appearances, the GOP and its big money supporters spent $1 billion on a campaign that was totally out of sync with reality, believing in poll trutherism and unable to take criticism before rushing back to Fox News to get a reassuring pat on the head.

Yegods, what a clusterfuck.

And a bunch of those dipshits are convinced that their problem was either:

1. White people not showing up to vote
2. Not enough emphasis on anti-abortion or anti-gay positions
3. Dumb minority voters swayed by an "Obama phone" bribe
4. Skewed polls

And so on. They simply refuse to accept that people looked at what they were selling and decided not to buy into it, or that the electorate is shifting away from them demographically.

They're doing what everybody who wasn't engaged in wishful thinking said they were gonna do: Make excuses for why conservatism was failed by Willard and start thinking up ways about how a "true conservative" could win next time around. So far, the argument seems to be "Get more white people to the polls and somehow fool the minorities into thinking we give a shit about them."

I do love how they think they weren't socially conservative enough. The strategy that worked for them in 2004 has backfired for them in 2012. And it helps that more and more Democratic candidates are saying loudly and clearly that they're for marriage equality and explaining why. This is a losing battle for them just like fighting segregation was for the racists in the 60's. I really want to have a day where I have children or grandchildren and they're asking me "No, no seriously dad(or grandpa) people actually cared about that." And then I'll laugh and tell them I remember what I was doing when we got OBL. We're becoming on social issues a more center-left nation and to quote the Rolling Stones in It's Only Rock and Roll, "And I like it."

re: #99 Cheechako

The GOP refuses to entertain any new revenue that doesn't come from "trickle down," namely their belief that cutting taxes leads magically to increased economic growth and higher tax revenues, despite 30+ years of evidence to the contrary.

103 Batman  Thu, Nov 8, 2012 2:15:05pm

What I think happened: Bush. Bush's two wins convinced Republicans that the sure way to win is to rile up the religious right. Now they will be convinced that didn't work because Romney isn't a real christian. That's obviously wrong, since they were plenty riled up by the simple fact that Obama was the other candidate -- that's all it took. Face it, this election was about moderates voting against the far right.

104 Sophist is the VillageGreen Preservation Society  Thu, Nov 8, 2012 2:15:26pm
We expect Obama to follow a similar trajectory as Bush. Obama will push for mass amnesty for illegal aliens early in 2013 and by doing so his approval ratings will drop to historic lows just like Bush did when his approval dropped to around 20% making him the most unpopular President in modern American history.

Christ are these people delusional. Yes, the sole reason Bush had historically bad approval ratings was "amnesty". There wasn't anything else going on that might have contributed.

It's like they want Latinos not to vote for them.

Reminds me of a retailing seminar I went to. The guy was talking about store owners who would resist marking down old stock that didn't sell. He said, "Your customers have told you that your baby is ugly. They aren't going to change their minds. Get over it and get it out of there."

As soon as the GOP stops criticizing the ACA it will become far more popular than it currently is. It does, after all, benefit Republicans as well as Democrats.

Prediction time:

In the face of how Republicans at the national level have treated the response to the Sandy superstorm, and the more-recent noreaster, not to mention the level of venom from the right that has been leveled toward the governor recently, I forsee a change from Christie (R-NJ) to Christie (I-NJ).

Republicans bellowed for him to actively campaign in the wake of the storm, subsequently going as far as calling him a traitor for not doing so, while at the same time all he heard from the Obama team was "how can we help you and your people?"
Things like this tend to leave a lasting impression.

Karl Rove was a close adviser to George W. Bush during all the years when Bush was President. One would hope that after all that time in the White House, Rove would be more careful to not put party before country.

Unfortunately, we do have two elections in modern times that were, and are, very questionable, and worthy of serious discussion: 1960 (the Democrat took office) and 2000 (the Republican took office). But setting those two exceptions aside, there is no good reason on earth to point fingers and sow divisiveness over an election. The people have spoken. Be grateful that you live in a country where each person has a vote, and stop trying to divide it.

Actually, first run of the exit polls indicate there is validity to point one: white people not showing up. More accurately, poor (incomes under 50K) white people.

There are two possibilities, each bringing their own forms of schadenfreude.

First there is the possibility that a lot of them got caught in the whole Voter ID mess. Yeah, ponder how it works by hitting lower income the hardest.

Second there is the possibility that they were "pox on both houses" voters. Solid Republican voters who were so peeved with their candidate they stayed home instead of voting for the other guy (be it race or party they resisted).

Regardless they turned out in lower numbers than they did in 2008.

I posted this TNC quote a few threads down, but I'm repeating just because it makes me happy:

In Ohio, the 2008 electorate was 11% black. This week, it was 15%.

We talked yesterday about the kind of substantive reform the GOP could make in order to diversify. Here is a good one: Stop trying to inhibit participation. Stop it. You will not make us lazy. You will only make us angry:

Barack Obama knew who he was talking to when he called voting the best revenge. We don't need no high-faluting reasons to stand in those long lines. We'll stand there just for the privilege of putting that stutter in Karl Rove's speech, and that panicked look on his face.

I agree, this time it was personal. I have voted in every election since Nixon/McGovern in 1972 and felt that all of them were important. Yet, none felt as personal as this one. In this election the GOP not only threatened my most cherished beliefs of equal rights and equal opportunity for everyone but attacked me personally and very directly as a thinking, independent woman. That pissed me off.

Do not fuck with the Uterati.
