Example of why the UNFCCC will never really do anything about climate change - they forgot to invite the scientists:

Climate Change panel chief says ‘not invited to COP18’

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) will not be attending the upcoming United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP18/CMP8) in Doha, chairman Dr Rajendra K Pachauri has said.

“For the first time in the 18 years of COP, the IPCC will not be attending, because we have not been invited,” he told Gulf Times in Doha.

Gattis to resign from school board to chair House Education Committee

Lynn Gattis, the incoming state representative from greater Wasilla, will serve as chair of the House Education Committee when the Legislature convenes in Juneau.

Gattis, a Republican, says she favors school vouchers. She said she backs equal time in the classroom for creationism and evolution. And she’s open to the idea of regional schools for rural areas.

Obama, Romney both up in Gallup poll

Americans give a higher favorable rating to both President Barack Obama and Republican nominee Mitt Romney, a post-election USA Today/Gallup poll indicated.

Any idea on who's behind this effort to continue to push Mitt Romney into our mind space, and not only give him space but to make him look better?

Probably branding 101. The GOP wants to sell the story that Mitt was a perfectly reasonable candidate who happened to lose.

The reality that Mitt was a loser from a loser party with lousy positions on every available issue needs to be forgotten.

Of course, this strategy won't work unless Mitt shuts up...

From the article:

Gattis has served on the Mat-Su School Board since 2010, but said that she plans to resign from the board in mid-January.
Originally, Gattis told other school board members she hoped to remain on the school board even if elected. It's legal in Alaska to serve on local boards while serving in the Legislature.
But, Gattis said, she decided over the weekend to resign from the board after she learned of her appointment as Education chair; a plum position in the Legislature for an incoming freshman.

A Creationist as education chair. You go, Alaska GOP.

The reality of war is indeed hard to bear, but just focusing on the casualties isn't viable. Given the violent determination to murder Israelis of Hamas, innocents will die no matter what course Israel takes. Sadly, the question is which innocents will die and how many of them will die.

I'm actually thinking of that. It's not really a big deal but I don't like people snooping around my back garden and looking in my windows at night. I don't think flood lights are much of a deterrent, blaring sirens outside will annoy neighbors, internal alarms will annoy me. If I can manage to figure out a good system for motion activated sprinklers I think that's the option I prefer.

I'll keep it in mind if I need to upgrade in the future but I've been talking to people and thinking about the psychology of the situation. The break in was a reasonably professional affair, not just some dumb kids or crazy homeless person passing by. Someone put some thought into it, probably assuming by greenhouse was a pot growing operation. For now I've actually trimmed back all my tomato plants so if someone does look into the greenhouse they can see all the way in and realize there's nothing there for them unless they have a sever fenugreek fetish.
I think going overboard with obvious surveillance cameras, flood lights, alligator filled moats will just encourage them to think there's tons of drugs and cash on premises with someone who might not call police. If I have a serious home invasion I'm fucked. For now I want just enough warning time to run down the street naked screaming like a girl if things get serious. I don't want to encourage people to think there's anything here worth stealing.

73 Stanghazi  Fri, Nov 16, 2012 6:20:16pm
