It's like every previous round of hostilities: Hamas lets rockets fly, Israel starts stomping on its ass, the media spends a few days engaged in hysterics over how there will ever be peace so long as both sides hate each other, a ceasefire is negotiated, and Hamas jumps on TV to tell anybody who will listen that it has fought Israel to a standstill.

I think they did pretty well for themselves. Abbas and Fatah are old news. If you wanna talk you gotta talk to Hamas. Egypt is now a power player, free to demonize Israel, tacitly allow the Palestinians rearm and then get credit for brokering a peace deal. Assad's happy to be out of the headlines for a few weeks and Iran is still boasting about smuggling rockets to Gaza. Lefty sites and talking points are flooded with the conspiracy theory that Israel started this thing because Hamas terrorists were about to act on a secret awesome peace plan.
I think this ends up as win for Hamas.

The only thing that gives me any hope about the I/P situation is that other intractable issues have been resolved in ways that were hard to see in advance.
Unfortunately, this is rare. The end of apartheid in South Arica and partial resolution of the Northern Ireland conflict come to mind.

November 21, 2012: Although Pakistan allows Islamic terrorists to reside unmolested in North Waziristan, many of the Islamic radicals there do not return the favor. Thus while Pakistan maintains a token garrison in Miranshah (the capital of North Waziristan), it requires a major military operation to run a weekly supply convoy (carrying mostly food and fuel) for the troops and officials there. The convoy must travel through over 70 kilometers of road that is normally controlled by Islamic terrorist groups (mainly the Pakistani Taliban). The terrorists plant many roadside bombs along the route and will attack any vehicles that will not submit to inspection. Since the military convoy is off-limits to such inspection, the movement of the convoy is an all-day affair and often involves violence or threats of violence.
Early in the morning army engineers start clearing the route of bombs and mines. This is usually done by noon, at which point the convoy and its armed guard proceed and, despite the occasional ambush, reach Miranshah by nightfall. The next day, the empty trucks must repeat the process to get back to their base at the town of Bannu. The Taliban could, if they wanted, cut off army access to Miranshah. But the army has made it clear that this would lead to massive use of artillery and air strikes. So the Taliban let the convoy pass with only light opposition. The government is allowed to do some other development work, like building or repairing roads, but with the understanding that these troops will not interfere with the Taliban, and vice versa.

I have overseen the computers at work since about 1990. In the 386 days I even built a couple. Then I got to busy to spend hours doing hardware.
I always have our computers made to our spec. Intel processors and WD drives have never been a bad choice in all that time. My experience has been external drives failing at a higher rate than internal drives. Makes me wonder if flaky drives get sold cheap as externals or maybe the box they put them in sucks with cheap parts.

Seagate is an interesting HD company. Alot of consumer drives have issues.
The little cheap laptop drive is nothing more than the original IBM junk drives with a different label.
The very high end Seagate drives are awesome, reliable and are spec'd by name by big time solution providers.

If I were negotiating with Boehner et al., I would point out that unfunded wars, prescription drug coverage that was not cost-controlled, and tax cuts are the three voluntary acts under the Bush administration that contributed greatly to the debt.
Undoing these (or covering their costs) is the obvious first step towards balancing the budget. This is simple enough to take to the electorate in the midterms, if necessary.

Then let it happen. Last I checked, the GOP were the ones who insisted on budgetary cuts and chose a temporary extension of the Bush Tax Cuts over making the middle class cuts permanent.
