Women’s Health Clinics Offer $10 Discount, “Pro-Life” Fanatics Freak Out

The right wing war on women’s reproductive rights
Wingnuts • Views: 32,655

On the day after Thanksgiving, a couple of women’s health centers in Florida offered a $10 discount on a clinic visit — leading to a freak-out by anti-abortion nuts, who seem to think that because the clinics are affiliated with Planned Parenthood, this can only mean one thing: the evil Planned Parenthood is selling discounted abortions.

Health Center Specials - Planned Parenthood - South Florida and the Treasure Coast:

The propaganda originates at crazed anti-choice website lifenews.com: Planned Parenthood Abortion Clinic Offers Black Friday Discount | LifeNews.com.

A Planned Parenthood abortion clinic in souther Florida is offering a black Friday discount — including $10 off a visit to the abortion center today.

Planned Parenthood of South Florida and the Treasure Coast offered the special, saying, “Visit our West Palm Beach or Kendall Health Center for special after Thanksgiving savings on Friday, November 23rd.”

Pro-life blogger Jill Stanek noticed the Black Friday discount and responded, “Planned Parenthood brings new meaning to the term, “Black Friday,” doesn’t it?”

This is all it takes to provoke right wing bloggers into raving about killing babies. Just a couple of examples out of many:

The always-insane Jim Hoft thinks this is the beginning of something, but he doesn’t say what: It Begins… Planned Parenthood Offers Black Friday Discounts on Abortions.

With a picture of a fetus, of course.

Rick Moran at PJ Media says this $10 discount on a clinic visit is so despicable, everyone should agree immediately to cut off funding for Planned Parenthood even if you’re not an anti-choice fanatic: The PJ Tatler » Giving New Meaning to the Term ‘Black Friday’.

Even if you are pro-choice, the inappropriateness and tastelessness of such a “discount” has to disturb you. And if anything, it should renew calls for defunding the organization. If PP wants to act like a commercial concern by taking part in Black Friday “sales,” it doesn’t need federal money to prop it up. It can survive on its own in the marketplace by retailing abortion and other health-related services just like any other business.

It shouldn’t need to be pointed out again, but just to emphasize how stupidly deceptive this attack is, Planned Parenthood clinics provide a wide range of women’s health services, not just abortion — and in fact, abortions account for only about 3% of what PP health centers do:

Hah! We know 90% of what PP does is abortions!*

Just fodder for the willing minions. Though there is a huge amount of ignorance and outright idiocy (Dim Hoft, srsly), many believe it is their duty to propagate fresh narratives for the cause.

I used to laugh this stuff off as idiots being idiots but the motivation driving this is unnerving.

These are the same morons who fell for The Onion's abortionplex story.

I'm not surprised that this would send them into freakout mode again.

True believers suck...they're immune from any logic, reason, or any evidence that contradicts their point-of-view.

The trick is to keep them from turning those who are not as set in their ways; it really is a battle of wits.

You know what's really interesting? I spent years using Planned Parenthood services and during that entire time, I didn't even know that one of the services offered at Planned Parenthood was abortions.

What war on women? Fox News thinks you should be more worried about The War on Men.

By Suzanne Venker, who is (I hope you're sitting down) Phyllis Schlafly's niece.

Fortunately, there is good news: women have the power to turn everything around. All they have to do is surrender to their nature – their femininity – and let men surrender to theirs.

If they do, marriageable men will come out of the woodwork.

The problem is that the middle class woman wandering around her suburban home in pearls and high heels is a very modern construct. Women have generally been an integral and hard working part of the family and community.

I gave in to my feminine nature earlier today by ripping out some carpet and prying up tack strips. I'm now tired.

I don't get any of this shit anymore.. We are the United States of America. The most powerful Nation in History. Half of our citizens are women.
We should offer free or low cost healthcare for all women of this great nation. It's the least we could do for the diamonds of America.
We can afford it. There are a billion programs that could be cut by 5%. We also fold PP and other righteous programs into it.
We owe it to Woman and because we are the Fucking United States of America.

re: #30 calochortus

Woman use to have to work and work hard. In the 1700's big strong women were valued as wives for their ability to work. In the late 1800's the whole family, including children would often have to work either in a sweat factory a field or producing mass trinkets in their living rooms for local stores.
This idea of the stay at home mother who does nothing but dote on children and take care of their man is very modern and recent for the masses.

From the article:

....women pushed men off their pedestal (women had their own pedestal, but feminists convinced them otherwise) and climbed up to take what they were taught to believe was rightfully theirs.

Now the men have nowhere to go. [...]

Contrary to what feminists like Hanna Rosin, author of The End of Men, say, the so-called rise of women has not threatened men. It has pissed them off. It has also undermined their ability to become self-sufficient in the hopes of someday supporting a family. Men want to love women, not compete with them. They want to provide for and protect their families – it’s in their DNA. But modern women won’t let them. [...]

Sooo...she's basically saying men are pissy little underachievers who need to be put up on a pedestal and coddled in order for them to become self-sufficient & responsible, and if we selfish greedy women can't see that then we shouldn't be surprised when men's natural insecurity, laziness, and sense of entitlement causes them to throw temper tantrums and throw themselves on the floor holding their breath? Um, okay...

Charles Johnson,

I guess as far as they're concerned, if you perform abortions, that's all you do.

49 Holidays are Family Fun Time  Sun, Nov 25, 2012 9:48:50am

Planned Parenthood is not code for abortion.

Reproductive Rights is not code for abortion.

Pro-Choice is not code for abortion.

50 Thorzdad  Sun, Nov 25, 2012 10:59:54am

Here in Indiana, Indiana Right to Life is already firing-up its supporters in the legislature to have another go at de-funding Planned Parenthood here. Their tactic this time is a claim that PP clinics are not following federal or state rules for providing prescription drugs. They're specifically referring to the use of morning-after pills for abortion. IRL claims the pills are being given out without a prescription. Of course, no prescription is needed when provided as part of a medical procedure (abortion) But, that's not going to stop the Republicans from raking PP over the coals again and, possibly, ignoring the truth and taking funding away again.
