Inadvertent Wingnut Humor Site of the Day: Conservative Fact Check

Definitive proof
Wingnuts • Views: 39,338

As a connoisseur of wingnut craziness, I was very pleased to discover the excellent website called Conservative Fact Check, a right wing attempt to do for fact-checking what Unskewed Polls did for legitimate surveys — completely reinvent reality itself!

This stubborn refusal to bow to the demands of logic and rationality often leads, of course, to exceptional inadvertent comedy; for example, CFC’s Definitive Proof of Politifact’s Bias!

Their clever method to prove that Politifact is a liberal propaganda outfit: they took all of Politifact’s “Pants on Fire” ratings for a list of politicians, and … added them up! See? They used mathematics here!

And they produced this definitive chart to demonstrate their definitive proof.

There you have it! And to make the bias even more definitively proven, here’s the Conservative Fact Check methodology:

We assembled this chart by sorting PolitiFact’s complete list of “Pants On Fire” rulings. We filtered out any rulings of chain email or anonymous Facebook posts (although these were virtually all conservative viewpoints), as well as politicians or organizations who had only one “Pants On Fire” ruling (but again, even these were mostly conservatives).

The results are, sadly, not surprising. But the situation is grave. PolitiFact (and other supposedly unbiased fact-checking sites) paint Mitt Romney as a serial liar. They also unfairly tarnish Michele Bachmann as a liar, when anybody who follows her already understands that many of her statements aren’t meant to be truthful in the first place — she simply says what she feels. …

To have any semblance of fairness, PolitiFact should play it 50/50 and present an equal number of lies from both sides. They clearly are not concerned with any pretense.

I know, you’re probably thinking this has to be a spoof, right? They must have at least considered the possibility that the reason why their definitive chart shows conservatives lying more than liberals is because … they actually lie more?

But no! Conservative Fact Check is honestly, sincerely this hilarious. What does “reality” mean to a wingnut true believer, after all?

For the definitive answer, here’s their About CFC statement:

CFC is dedicated to providing a conservative alternative to enormously liberal-biased fact checking sites like snopes.com, factcheck.org, and politifact.com.

It’s a familiar scenario: you receive a particularly juicy story about Obama in email and forward it to your friends. Then, somebody on your mailing list tries to ruin the fun by sending you a link from Snopes which declares your story to be false. What do you do if you know it’s true?

Send them to CFC, of course!

It’s going to take some time, but our goal is to offer a rebuttal to all the so-called fact checking site “facts” that matter.

You know those deranged racist conspiracy theories your Fox News-watching Uncle Walter is always emailing you? Why let liberals ruin the fun with their socialist “debunking” tricks? Those emails are only as true as you want them to be!

UPDATE at 11/25/12 4:08:59 pm

One of the founders of this fine website calls himself “Techdude:”

“Techdude”, Technical Editor

Accomplished computer expert “techdude” has an A.A.S. in Network Technology and Security from Inver Hills Community College. He specializes in detecting document and photo forgeries.

Could this be the very same “Techdude” who worked with Birther loon Pamela Geller to analyze the pixels in President Obama’s birth certificate, producing the hilarious “heat map analysis” we featured previously at LGF, definitively proving that Barack Obama is a sekrit commie Muslim impostor?

Yes, it has to be the same one. Most excellent!

The only way conservatives can hang on to their tenuous grasp on reality is to completely seal the echo chamber.

Pretty much...and the only way they can do that is to control what they call "facts" from beginning to end, discounting any source or "fact-checker" that doesn't completely validate their POV.

They really have taken Adam Savage's (tongue-in-cheek) "I reject your reality and substitute my own!" to heart as orthodoxy, haven't they?

Here's a longer version:

Liberal apologists try to make the following points:

*Gas prices today are lower than they were for most of 2008.
*When factoring for inflation and pricing trends, gas prices are quite good -- if it weren't for the historic price drop over the three months before inauguration day, pricing actually beats the trend set by the Bush administration.

But none of that makes a difference -- they're wrong. Technically speaking, gas prices are higher today than they were on inauguration day. Forget trends, forget inflation -- that's what matters. Just point them to the weeks surrounding inauguration day. Nobody's claiming that gas prices are bad today compared to most of the previous administration... when arguing with your liberal friends, don't let them change the goalposts.

You see what he's doing there?

Debunking the NOAA's October State of the Climate

"Average" can mean many things. In this case, the report never states the time period for calculating the "average." Are the average temperatures across 50 years, 60 years, 70? We don't know. If they use a more meaningful period for calculating average temperatures, say ten years (the period of time for which many people remember particular weather patterns), then the chart gets a lot more blue. We can't know if the NOAA has deliberately picked a time period to inflate the values.

Let's go over to that NOAA page shall we?

Well now. What's this?

The average combined global land and ocean surface temperature for October 2012 tied with 2008 as the fifth warmest October on record, at 0.63°C (1.13°F) above the 20th century average of 14.0°C (57.1°F). Records began in 1880.

Oh for god's sake.

I read that article yesterday and I was sure it was a subtle parody. Then a few minutes later I wasn't so sure...

He's really a nutcase birther? Is it possible that half of his brain is liberal and laughing at him. Mean for God's sake, he even validated Steven Colbert's concept of truthiness like no one in history! They also unfairly tarnish Michele Bachmann as a liar, when anybody who follows her already understands that many of her statements aren’t meant to be truthful in the first place — she simply says what she feels.

She doesn't mean what she says?

Actually he's wrong. Sarah Palin doesn't mean what she says. Newt Gingrich doesn't mean what he says. Glen Beck may not mean what he says. Millions of racist Birchers who call the President a Kenyan don't mean what they say, but Bachmann? She took (a fraudulent course in) law at Oral Roberts University and was taught that the US constitution was meant to base all of our laws on Biblical principles. She recommended a book on her website that said that people should reject all ideas (and laws) that come from secular people because secular concepts are infected by evil from Satan. She homeschools her non-biological children (gay husband) with the same Christian revisionist history she spouts in her speeches. IF ANYONE IN THE COUNTRY HONESTLY BELIEVES REVISIONIST LIES, IT'S MICHELLE BAUCHMANN.

But what does it mean that our birther thinks that conservatives don't really believe what they say? Does it mean that he's aware that he's lying when he spouts his birther crap? That's a fascinating idea, since I've long held that the birther crap and the other equally obvious lies about Obama are meant as a socially acceptable way of standing up and saying "I'm a racist" "I'm a xenophobe" and joining with other racists and xenophobes and that they are deliberate, conscious lies.

That's a pretty good summary of the recent GOP's attitude towards educated experts.

And if the shit ever does hit the fan and these people are in charge, I have no doubts that many of them will want to pull a Pol Pot and put anyone they see as "educated" against the wall.

Maybe I read too much into shit like this, but it's exasperating and scary.

I still lean towards this site being a Poe, there are quite a few subtle and some not so subtle clues to the possibility of it being satire scattered around on there. Hopefully someone is just getting a big laugh by seeing how many wingnuts he can sucker in.

Even if it isn't there is no down side for Libs/Progressives in that the site is so blatantly biased and uses such ridiculously juvenile reasoning that anyone using the arguments found there will be laughed out of the forums. If anything this site only serves to damage wingnut credibility even further than it already has been. I was starting to wonder if that was even possible, now I now better.

Jonah Goldberg:

When Romney, whose father marched with Martin Luther King Jr., spoke to the NAACP, Michael Tomasky of the Daily Beast dubbed him a “race-mongering pyromaniac,” primarily for using the term “ObamaCare” — a term Barack Obama used himself.

Factcheck:
"Mostly False"

George Romney and MLK marched, but not together
Three newspapers have tried and failed to find evidence of the two men marching together. The Boston Phoenix first checked Romney's statement and concluded it was false. Subsequent examinations by the Detroit Free Press and the Boston Globe found no news stories linking the two men to the same event.

We at Politifact.com reviewed the New York Times archives and found several mentions of Romney's support for King and several articles discussing marches that each participated in separately, but never a mention of the two marching together.

You can't recover by standing still. To get back on our feet, our nation's gross domestic product needs to be growing at greater than the normall rate.

But according to the FRED database, under Obama, it's growing at the same rate that it did under Bush (at least until the recession).

That reminds me how strange and unexpected the changes in attitudes I see over at pjmedia are now that the election is over and lost.

I'm too tired to go into it right now, and besides it needs further thought.

It's been the weirdest ride for those guys. A few years ago they were birther/tea party central. A full 1/2 of their comments were lies about Obama (Kenyan, Communist, Islamist, white hating radical, deliberately destroying capitalism, deliberately destroying America, deliberately destroying Christianity etc.).

Their favorite presidential candidate was Michelle Bachmann.

They were fully asto-turfed and censored for a few months before the election... and now they're not.

They're despirited, they're talking about giving up on basic policies like ObamaCare, they're talking about giving up on America, and some real open racism is breaking open in the comment sections too. Not that the threads on Travon Martin weren't worse than you could possibly imagine.

While the Bush tax cuts are not yet revenue positive, supply-side economists understand that this is because the plan takes time. It's only been ten years since the Bush tax cuts have taken effect. This is, we believe, why Romney will cut taxes even more: to accelerate the process.

I `like' their methodology. They start out assuming some two populations are completely equal with respect to some metric. They then conclude that if objective tests score the one population lower than the other, that it must be discrimination.

(The populations in question being right wing politicians and left wing politicians, the thing being measured being factual accuracy, and the objective test being to count how many statements both sides make that rate as "pants on fire" because the statement is just plain false, and it was made in earnest and with the intent to get others to believe it.)

It's circular reasoning. It assumes the truth of what is at issue.

It's not satire.

Sure it is.

Mitt Romney has made an important point in the argument for repealing ObamaCare:

"We don't have people that become ill, who die in their apartment because they don't have insurance."

It's seemed that not a single liberal media article referencing this quote is complete without mentioning studies that 25,000 - 50,000 adults die prematurely each year due to a lack of health insurance.

25,000 to 50,000. Are those numbers accurate? Perhaps.

But, remember: there are some 206 million adults living in the United States (source: Wikipedia).

This means that each year, only one in four thousand adults will die prematurely as the result of a lack of health insurance. That's statistically insignificant.

So, practically speaking, Romney is correct. The individual mandate is a solution in search of a problem.

It just skates so close to the edge of real RW nutjobbery that it's seems real.

On the Romney tax plan:

Again, "how will all of these be paid for?" is the wrong question to ask, as liberalnomics ignores the growth in the economy that these cuts will create. But we have a few clues as to how President Romney will simplify the tax code to bring in more revenue as an offset.

One is in this interview that Mitt Romney gave to Diane Sawyer. In it, he stated that he will eliminate the mortgage interest deduction for second homes.

But don't panic -- this isn't as bad as it seems. This won't hurt job creators, as they often pay cash for properties, and thus can't deduct mortgage interest anyway.

re: #19 jc717

Wait, Snopes has a liberal bias? lol

I'll call your lol and raise you a bwahaha.

First, the basics: snopes.com is the work of husband and wife David and Barbara Mikkelson. David originally posted to Usenet as snopes, and the couple applied that nom de guerre to the website when they established it.

Barbara Mikkelson is a Canadian citizen, and as such cannot vote in U.S. elections or contribute to political campaigns. In a statement to FactCheck.org, David Mikkelson said his "sole involvement in politics" is voting on election day. In 2000 he registered as a Republican, documents provided to FactCheck.org show, and in 2008 Mikkelson didn't declare a party affiliation at all. Says Mikkelson: "I've never joined a party, worked for a campaign, or donated money to a candidate"

Follow the money!

A later variant of this rumor alleges, without evidence, that Snopes.com is financed by liberal philanthropist and hedge fund tycoon George Soros. This is false. The website is entirely self-supporting through advertising sales.

There's a story about Galileo introducing people to his telescopic discoveries. At the time, they mostly all believed the earth was the center of the universe, and the planets were smooth and shiny like glass balls. Galileo showed the rugged surface of the Moon, the moons of Jupiter, the phases of Venus ... they refused to believe their own eyes. Instead, they said the telescope was playing tricks with their eyes.

Some things just don't change, even after 400 years.

The earliest lens-type telecopes did indeed play various tricks with peoples' vision. Chromatic abberation (false rainbow coloring) was one serious flaw in Galileo's time. And few could understand why familiar things like trees, houses and people appeared upside-down.
