Former FL GOP Leaders Say the Goal Was Voter Suppression

Shocka
Politics • Views: 35,731

Of course it was already blazingly obvious, but today the Palm Beach Post reports that former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist says new early voting regulations were specifically designed by the Republican Party to suppress Democratic votes.

A new Florida law that contributed to long voter lines and caused some to abandon voting altogether was intentionally designed by Florida GOP staff and consultants to inhibit Democratic voters, former GOP officials and current GOP consultants have told The Palm Beach Post.

Republican leaders said in proposing the law that it was meant to save money and fight voter fraud. But a former GOP chairman and former Gov. Charlie Crist, both of whom have been ousted from the party, now say that fraud concerns were advanced only as subterfuge for the law’s main purpose: GOP victory.

Crist said party leaders approached him during his 2007-2011 gubernatorial term about changing early voting, in an effort to suppress Democrat turnout. Crist is now at odds with the GOP, since abandoning the party to run for U.S. Senate as an independent in 2010. He is rumored to be planning another run for governor, as a Democrat.

Crist said in a telephone interview this month that he did not recall conversations about early voting specifically targeting black voters “but it looked to me like that was what was being suggested. And I didn’t want them to go there at all.”

About inhibiting minority voters, [Former Republican Party of Florida Chairman] Greer said:

“The sad thing about that is yes, there is prejudice and racism in the party but the real prevailing thought is that they don’t think minorities will ever vote Republican,” he said.

“It’s not really a broad-based racist issue. It’s simply that the Republican Party gave up a long time ago ever believing that anything they did would get minorities to vote for them.”

But a GOP consultant who asked to remain anonymous out of fear of retribution said black voters were a concern. “I know that the cutting out of the Sunday before Election Day was one of their targets only because that’s a big day when the black churches organize themselves,” he said.

GOP spokesman [Brian] Burgess discounted Crist’s statement to The Post.

“Charlie Crist speaks out of both sides of his mouth,” he said.

If a certain voting block will never vote for you then I guess it is beholden of you to not let them vote at all. What patriots, what leaders, what American loyalists, what low life pieces of shit.

Good time to admit it, though. In 2 years, 4 years, no one will pay attention to this "ancient history" and they'll be able to try the exact same thing again and say "no we're not doing this" while they're doing it.

We're not really racist. Other minorities won't vote for us, so it's fair play to try and not get them to vote.

I don't know what's worse, racism or the morally putrid justification to deny others their votes.

Oy.

Curt Brown of the Strib reports, “[Homeowner Byron Smith] heard glass breaking around noon Thursday while he was in the basement. It was the latest of several break-ins that he's experienced. [Nicholas] Brady started coming down the stairs, and Smith shot him with a rifle by the time he saw the intruder's hips. Brady fell down the stairs and was looking up at Smith when the homeowner shot him in the face. ‘I want him dead,' Smith explained to the investigator for the additional shot. … A few minutes later, Smith heard footsteps above him. As in Brady's case, [Haile] Kifer too started down the stairs and was shot by Smith by the time he saw her hips, sending her tumbling down the stairs. Smith attempted to shoot her again, but his rifle jammed, prompting Kifer to laugh. Upset, Smith, pulled out a revolver he had on him and shot her ‘more times than I needed to’ in the chest, he said.”

Clearly Minnesota needs a castle doctrine to give legal protection to this poor helpless homeowner.

Murder charges: Rifle jammed, she laughed, so he killed her with a pistol

At court in support of the defendant was friend John Lange, who said Smith had been targeted at least six times for break-ins and doesn't deserve to be in jail for protecting his home. "They tortured him and targeted him, and it's not good," Lange said. "One time alone would be too much. It's terrible."

Having been the victim of a break in a few weeks ago I know how it feels. There's an assumption that if someone breaks in when they know you're home they are ready to do you harm, especially since the guy was trapped in the basement. The second person came down even after hearing the shots and taunted him when his gun jammed. Not a smart move. The homeowner wasn't within his legal rights but after my recent experience I can see how this sort of thing can happen. One of the reasons I'm not considering a gun after my break in is because of situations like this. A moment of passion/anger, a lapse in judgement and the homeowner is in deep shit. I could have easily shot my intruder, he was standing only feet away when I woke up. But without my glasses in the dark if I had shot him in the back I'd be in jail. I don't have a whole lot of emotional sympathy for the criminals but I'll take my chances being unarmed and hope for the best.

Beyond defense in this case.

Smith shot him with a rifle by the time he saw the intruder's hips.

Brady fell down the stairs and was looking up at Smith when the homeowner shot him in the face.

"I want him dead," Smith explained to the investigator for the additional shot.

Smith dragged Kifer next to Brady as she gasped for her life. He pressed the revolver's barrel under her chin and pulled the trigger in what he described as a "good, clean finishing shot" that was meant to end her suffering.

I think everyone here knows I'm a firm believer in the 2nd amendment. I also have strong feelings about property rights as they relate to ones home and business. Yet, the idea is to be able to protect yourself, family and property from eminent danger. Once that danger is removed, you have no right to keep blasting.

It's not like the intruder had a grenade or something. Once he was stopped and contained, there is no reason to keep shooting.

This homeowner should be in prison. His actions endanger the 2nd
Amendment.

I also have to add a question. Did this guy have a dog?

There were 4 suspects:

“John Doe Duffle Bag,” a balding white man with a mustache who was wearing business clothes, captured on video at 6 p.m. walking north past 786 Flatbush, about a block north of the crime scene, and again at 6:03 p.m. half a block farther north.

“Jane Doe Long Coat,” a black woman with glasses and a neck scarf, captured on video just after 6 p.m. walking north past 786 Flatbush.

“John Doe Bubble Jacket,” a black man in a bubble jacket captured on video at 6:52 p.m. running south past 850 Flatbush, half a block south of the crime scene.

“Jane Doe Green Jacket,” a black woman with a head scarf captured on video at 6:52 p.m. running south past 850 Flatbush, seven seconds after John Doe Bubble Jacket runs by. She is also seen taking off her jacket, which was later found in a trash can.

Apparently they only released a sketch of the scary black man. This was reported at the New York Post as well and I found these comments:

Leading Islamophobe Allen West Likely Defeated Due To High Muslim American Turnout

But in an America that grows increasingly progressive and tolerant, bigotry can be a major electoral liability. Murphy’s margin of victory is roughly 1,900 votes. I talked to Imran Siddiqui, who is a Board Member for the organization Empowering Motivating Educating Resourceful Grassroots Entities, which registers Muslim voters in the area. He mentioned that his organization had 2,500 Muslim voters in their database in the district and that they witnessed 80 percent turnout. That means roughly 2,000 Muslim-American votes — a little bit higher than Murphy’s margin of victory.

Allah works in mysterious ways. :D

Controversy over Hitler comments

In an article in Ha'aretz, Yossi Sarid quoted Feiglin as saying, "Hitler was an unparalleled military genius. Nazism promoted Germany from a low to a fantastic physical and ideological status. The ragged, trashy youth body turned into a neat and orderly part of society and Germany received an exemplary regime, a proper justice system and public order. Hitler savored good music. He would paint. This was no bunch of thugs. They merely used thugs and homosexuals." Feiglin clarified his position to the Maariv newspaper that just because he considers Hitler a military genius this does not mean he admires him. In an interview on Israeli television Feiglin accused Sarid and other left-wing journalists of a smear campaign against him by quoting him out of context. He explained his point as saying that just because Germany was a democracy does not give legitimacy to what Hitler had done.

In 2000 we learned that in Florida's wealthy Republican districts they had brand new computerized optical scanners that don't miss any votes and in urban Democratic districts they have worn out mechanical card punch systems that lose a significant percent of the vote.

Any competent statistical analysis of 2000 shows that if there was a level playing field for vote counting in Florida then Gore would have won.

Here in California we have those optical scanners and we put polls everywhere, even in people's garages. As a result I've never had to stand in line.

I'm willing to bet that just as they have one vote-counting system for the wealthy and an inferior system for the poor in Florida, I'm willing to bet that they have more polling places per capita in wealthy areas too ie, only urban democrats have to stand in line. I bet suburban Republicans can vote in 5 minutes.

We're the only non-totalitarian country that puts voting in the hands of partisan politicians. We have a corruptable system, and, at the moment, we have one corrupt very party. I'm perfectly willing to admit that in the past the other party was corrupt, and racist and so on. Fine, just change the damn system so that it doesn't reward corruption.

It's time to change the system to a national one.

He seems to share some views with Scott Lively for one. I.e. the homosexual bit.

Uhm no. The Supreme court doesn't take it because some people think it's no longer needed. The Supreme court takes it because the court has tea party bullshit spouting members who want to throw elections to the Republican party like they did in 2000. And if they have to throw away the black vote, well they've already destroyed the reputation of the court so what's one more?

Israel is going to go violently to the right. Instead of following the US and parts of Europe, they will follow Russia's slide to the right.

I don't know about violently but it sure has taken a rather steep right turn here. Moshe make Bibi look like a far-left Democrat. I never read anything like this about Bibi.

Feiglin backtracks from meeting with gay group

Likud activist Moshe Feiglin is no longer willing to meet with a new homosexual group in the Likud after he received complaints from some of his key supporters in the United States.

The Jerusalem Post reported exclusively on Sunday that Feiglin had told the group’s leader, Dr. Evan Cohen, that he would be happy to meet with them.

But Feiglin said his willingness to meet with the group gave it legitimacy that he did not want to give it...

Feiglin, who wrote an article in the past called “I am a proud homophobe,” said he would still be willing to meet with members of the group individually...

Bozo the clown chimes in:

The Post article about Feiglin was picked up by many blogs. On the Kahanist Jewish Task Force website, “Senior JTFer” called Feiglin’s willingness to meet with the gay group “a new low.”

“Rabbi Meir Kahane in contrast to Moshe Feiglin, would never consider giving any type of public legitimacy to the Homos,” he wrote...

In case no one mentioned, Rick Santorum has told the Weekly Standard he's available for 2016.
