Erick Erickson Is in ‘Prayerful Consideration’ About Far Right Challenge to Chambliss

Loony wingnut blogger wants to enforce ideological purity
Politics • Views: 28,325

Redstate blogger Erick Erickson is reportedly thinking about primarying Saxby Chambliss, because Chambliss is no longer pure enough for the right wing: Erickson Considering Challenge to Chambliss.

“For a week now, I’ve been getting calls to see if I would challenge Saxby Chambliss, once he really got into the whole ‘raising taxes issue,’” Erickson said in the opening segment of his radio show Tuesday. “Well, the pace quickened. I got a lot of people pledging a lot of money in the last couple of days if I did something like this. And I’ve been very adamant, I wasn’t going to do it, but after a few conversations today with a few heavy hitters in Washington, D.C. and some here in Georgia, I should at least consider it.”

Erickson, a CNN political contributor and editor-in-chief of conservative haunt RedState, added he was “very flattered” and was in “prayerful consideration” about waging a possible challenge to the two-term Chambliss.

“Prayerful consideration” always plays well in Wingnut World, but maybe he should also ask God how He feels about Erickson calling Supreme Court Justice David Souter a “goat-fucking child molester,” and saying the Nobel Prize Committee had “an affirmative action quota” when they honored President Obama.

It's Georgia. We had to fight tooth and nail to get the legal right to purchase alcohol on some hours of Sunday in some counties. Of course Chambliss isn't pure enough, he's not demanding that the bible be read cover to cover at the beginning of each session of congress.

He may figure Bible-thumping will allow him to beat Chambliss by running as "God's Candidate". I don't think it'll work, especially if a budget deal can be struck. But Chambliss should start getting some of Erickson's worse comments collected to allow their use in negative ads if needed.

From 2010:
Meet Erick Erickson: CNN's newest political commentator

Erickson: "At what point do the people ... march down to their state legislator's house, pull him outside, and beat him to a bloody pulp?" In a March 31, 2009, post on RedState.com discussing a Washington county's ban on certain kinds of dishwasher detergent, Erickson wrote: "At what point do the people tell the politicians to go to hell? At what point do they get off the couch, march down to their state legislator's house, pull him outside, and beat him to a bloody pulp for being an idiot?" Later in the post, Erickson added: "Were I in Washington State, I'd be cleaning my gun right about now waiting to protect my property from the coming riots or the government apparatchiks coming to enforce nonsensical legislation."

Seriously.

Saxby Chambliss questioned the patriotism of Max Cleland, who is a triple amputee. If he's not enough of a raving lunatic for these people, who is?

25 lawhawk  Wed, Nov 28, 2012 1:10:20pm

It looks like it's likely to be a crowded field of pretenders and contenders to Saxby.

Friends of former secretary of state Karen Handel tell us that Rob Simms, once her chief of staff – now a D.C. media consultant, wasn’t blowing smoke when he said Handel was considering a 2014 challenge to U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss.

She is.

Simms dropped Handel’s name last week in a Weekly Standard roundup of potential primary rivals to Chambliss – a well-timed piece, given the senator’s decision to renew his fight with Grover Norquist as the Thanksgiving recess began. Other possibilities included U.S. Reps. Tom Price, R-Roswell; Paul Broun, R-Athens; and Tom Graves, R-Ranger. (U.S. Rep. Phil Gingrey sent word to Chambliss and state GOP Chairman Sue Everhart weeks ago that he’s not considering it.)

With Erickson, you've got to expect everyone running to vie for the title of most pure conservative. They're going to out wingnut each other. And expect the complaint from the wingnuttery to be that the establishment candidate - who's plenty conservative by any reasonable measure - isn't conservative enough because they're part of the establishment (the main criticism of Chambliss now seems to be that he's willing to consider governance over fealty to a lobbyist - Norquist).

Republican politicians take ideological purity oaths about as seriously as they take marriage vows.

And unfortunately, so do all of the poor suckers that vote for them: crowing about 'sanctity of marriage' with divorce rates at or near 50%, etc. Voting for oaths they are statistically unlikely to actually support in their personal lives.

W may have been the figurehead of the party during his terms, but I don't see him as having been "the leader", because DeLay and Frist were carrying water for him.

So there's this piece written by Stuart Stevens, chief strategist for the Romney presidential campaign. Check this out:

There was a time not so long ago when the problems of the Democratic Party revolved around being too liberal and too dependent on minorities. Obama turned those problems into advantages and rode that strategy to victory. But he was a charismatic African American president with a billion dollars, no primary and media that often felt morally conflicted about being critical. How easy is that to replicate?

Seriously, fuck whole the whole Romney campaign and their dog whistles.

I believe Stevens is the Romney strategist that was tied to some very scummy regimes in Albania and Congo. He can kindly fuck off and then shut the fuck up. How hard is it to admit that Obama ran the better campaign without sounding like a racist weasel?

I remember meeting Hagel not long after the 2004 impression. Got the impression he was a guy who put country first and party second. I'd be happy to see him get a position with this administration. He's a statesman.

Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood sets constitution showdown for tomorrow

The Muslim Brotherhood announced that the country's constituent assembly will hold an up or down vote then on a new draft constitution that has roiled Egyptian politics for months. If it passes a body that appears packed with Islamist politicians, most of those from the Brotherhood, the constitution will then be put to a national referendum. One caveat is that, in the coinage of political scientist Marc Lynch, Egyptian politics since Mubarak have resembled Calvinball, with rules and deadlines and statements shifting constantly.

Nevertheless President Mohamed Morsi, the Brotherhood politician who became the country's first freely elected president last June, appears committed to his current course. He's gambling the move will defuse an increasingly tense situation on the streets of Cairo. In the past week he's boldly (or recklessly, depending on your point of view) moved to break the constitutional impasse

I got a kick out of it too. I think it's a pretty good analogy. It's a good article and I think this is probably Mursi's game....

Secular Egyptians feared that Morsi and his Islamist allies were crafting a basic legal text that would move the country starkly in the direction of Islamic law, and argued that it was being drafted by a group that was far from representative of Egyptian society. From their point of view, they've been given two options: Live with Morsi holding all executive and legislative power, with broad immunity from judicial interference to boot; or, approve the constitution he favors.

They can tie up the constitution but that just leaves Mursi as all powerful dictator.

Wildmon: Obama Should be Impeached Over Attack in Libya

Frank Gaffney was the guest on AFA's "Today's Issues" radio program this morning to discuss the Right's ongoing obsession with the conspiracy that there has been a systematic cover-up of the attack in Benghazi, Libya back in September. The conspiracy theory now runs so deep that it prompted Tim Wildmon to go off on an extended rant about how President Obama and his administration lied and "intentionally misled the American people" about what happened in order to protect him ahead of the election. As such, Wildmon asserted, this "scandal" is worse than Watergate and that had this happened back in 1973, Obama would have been unanimously impeached:

FRC praises Uganda

Longtime President Yoweri Museveni observed Uganda's 50th anniversary of independence by publicly repenting of personal and national sin. "I stand here on my own behalf and on behalf of my predecessors to repent. "We ask for your forgiveness... We confess these sins, which have greatly hampered our national cohesion and delayed our political, social and economic transformation. We confess sins of idolatry and witchcraft...shedding innocent blood, sins of political hypocrisy, dishonesty, intrigue and betrayal..." After confessing many more sins, Museveni dedicated Uganda to the Lord. Bloodshed, violence and political unrest persisted for years after Idi Amin's demise. But Uganda began to recover after pastors began to unite in desperate prayer for their nation. FRC has joined in prayer with pastors and leaders from across Africa, including Ugandan Pastor Laban Jumba, a prayer pioneer during the Amin regime who birthed Intercessors for Uganda in the 70s. Believers across Africa are praying for America, that God will send revival and awakening, our nation's only real hope (read Michael Carl).

Thank God for leaders who stand boldly for Jesus, understand the curse of sin, and know God and His blessing are a nation's greatest possession. May God raise up such leaders in America and every nation! (Ex 18:21; 1 Sam 16:1, 7, 11-16; Ps 75:6; Jer 23:5-6; Lk 22:25-27; 1 Tim 2:1-8)

I don't know about "unrepentant career criminal", since the three felony charges were all settled in 2008 (could have been separate charges for a single incident, but I digress), but, as a prospective politician with felony convictions, she should have done a bit more research into her eligibility.

And just a fashion tip for Stacie from a straight white man: get you a wig or some hair plugs; a receding hairline and long hair (that's not in a man's ponytail) doesn't look good.

Speaking of stuff from September:

Egyptian court orders death sentences over anti-Islam film

Seven Coptic Egyptians living abroad were sentenced to death Wednesday by a court in Cairo for their connection to an inflammatory anti-Islam film, the prosecutor's office said.

The suspects are accused of being involved with the production of the film in California, said Adel Al Saeed, official spokesman for the prosecutor's office.

Since the Egyptian citizens were tried in absentia, the sentence would be applied only if they returned to Egypt.

Protests against the "Innocence of Muslims" film erupted in September in many Muslim countries, including Egypt, Yemen, Tunisia, Morocco, Sudan, Iran, Iraq, Israel and the Palestinian territories.

The amateurish film portrays the Prophet Mohammed as a womanizer, buffoon, ruthless killer and child molester. Islam categorically forbids any depictions of Mohammed, and blasphemy is an incendiary taboo in the Muslim world.

Backed by hardcore anti-Islam groups in the United States, the film sparked outrage after an Arabic translation of the film's trailer was released online a few weeks before the anniversary of September 11.

President Obama is already richer than Mitt Romney can ever hope to be. People whose sole focus is "more money" will never have enough. Romney's 65 years old. He has 250 million or so in net worth. He could burn through 10 million dollars a year without collecting a dime in interest and still have millions when he checks out of the planet and goes to whatever stage of heaven he believes in.

Public School Enlists Controversial Private Prison Firm To Conduct Drug Raids

The nation’s largest private prison corporation appears to be playing a part in drug raids at some Arizona public schools, PRWatch reports. On October 31, Vista Grande High School in Case Grande, Arizona had its first drug raid in the school’s four-year history. Three students were arrested for marijuana possession, and if one is charged with a felony, she could face prison.

One of the four parties involved was Corrections Corporation of America, which operates private prison facilities notorious for poor treatment and violations. Neither the Police Department Public Information Officer nor the high school’s principal saw a problem with the company’s participation:

A friend of mine bought a yellow Lamborghini about a month ago...he took his wife to Red Lobster for dinner in it (yes, Red fucking Lobster! - He's a midwest guy, from Ohio...likes their rolls). He said it was kind of funny...people kept posing for pictures beside his car throughout dinner, and as they were leaving, there were two guys videotaping each other mock-masturbating in front of it. They looked a little awkward as he walked up to them, but he just laughed and said he told them he thought it was funny as hell.

Good guy. Was in the right place, right time so he enjoys his toys. But aside from a couple of sports cars, you'd never know from being with him. Down to earth, generous of spirit. Loves people. Erickson wears his Jesus on his sleeve, right next to the grease from his hamburger, some Dr. Pepper, and snot from his nose.

And now, thanks to darthstar, I read it as "Redneck booger Erick Erickson....."

Ah, booger...the 9,000,000th post at LGF if I recall correctly. I'm still proud of that moment. 148,844 posts from now I'll have to think of something else.

re: #145 darthstar

And that's what is important to him...not whether his taxes go up thirty or forty thousand dollars next year. And yes, he voted for Obama.

Sometimes you just gotta live life. Doesn't matter if you're worth millions or not even a percent of that.
