Inadvertent Wingnut Humor of the Day: O’Reilly Tries to Understand ‘Gangnam Style’

Futile
Humor • Views: 34,564

Two old white Fox News spokesholes encounter Psy’s “Gangnam Style” video, attempt to make sense of it, bone-headed racist hilarity ensues.

Highlights:

  • O’Reilly calls Psy “some little fat guy from Yong Yang”
  • O’Reilly says there’s no comparison between Psy and Elvis Presley, because Presley’s songs had “words”
  • Ablow says “the meaning is that it has no meaning” and compares the video to a drug

Woodworking, forest, and Bach. This could be the ad of the year:

[Link: www.engadget.com...]

It's a bit baffling to think of the trouble Drill, Inc. went through in order to assemble the pieces necessary for a wooden ball to trickle down a homegrown marimba, particularly in the midst of Kyushu, Japan's woodlands. Kenjiro Matsuo was responsible for the creation of the instrument, while Morihiro Harano is being handed credit for the idea itself; in fact, he confirmed to The New York Times that no artificial music was added whatsoever, with only the background levels being adjusted up for effect.

The pop industry all over the world is based on having singers and songs that people find sexy. I wonder how it burns up those old conservatives that however much they can pretend that they will bring America back to God, there is no way that they can prevent the rest of the world from acting human - nor any way they can stop culture from becoming global.

I understand the words "style" and "hey, sexy lady!"

35 stabby  Sat, Dec 1, 2012 1:41:39pm

But I think part of the fun of the video is that Psy doesn't look sexy.

He's having fun, he's dancing and singing a bit sexy, but he's like some slightly overweight 30 year old. Maybe that has a meaning which is something like "normal looking people can have fun"

And most of Elvis's music-- and most of the white performers of that time-- was lifted from black performers, who could never get the same sort of publicity or record deals or gigs.

One of my daughter's favorite movies -- Cadillac Records -- tells some of that story:

39 jaunte  Sat, Dec 1, 2012 1:44:29pm

Something "Poppa bear" O'Reilly ought to know:

oppa(오빠) means "an older brother", and it is only used when a girl is calling an older brother or a older man who she trusts.

In English, you can call someone brother (or sister) to show that you are a close friend.

But in Korean, when a girl call a man "oppa" , it implies that she regards him as an older brother who usually takes care of everything about her like her parents.

In Korean culture, an older brother has a similar role to parents who take care of family. So, when a girl call a man "oppa", it implies that she trust him like she trusts her parents, and also it implies that she allows him to take care of her as her parents are doing to her.

When a girl call a man oppa, it is supposed that she regards that he is in a position to treat her a meal, and you can see such a scene in Korean movies and dramas. Also, when a girl is calling a man "oppa", he feels that he can get closer to her easilly.

Because of this cultural background, "oppa" is used by a girl when she wants to express her good feeling toward a man, and often Korean female fans call a male celebrity "oppa".

re: #42 stabby

I don't speak Korean, but per Wikipedia:

The song talks about "the perfect girlfriend who knows when to be refined and when to get wild."[23] The song's refrain "오빤 강남 스타일 (Oppan Gangnam style)" has been translated as "Big brother is Gangnam style," with Psy referring to himself;[24][25] "Oppa" is a Korean expression used by females to refer to an older male friend or older brother.

re: #42 stabby

And "Oppan" is the same as "Oppa"?

Yes.

"Oppan" is not a single word but a noun phrase, a shortened form of "oppa + neun." Unlike English which has a relatively fixed SVO (subject-verb-object) word order, Korean has a relatively free SOV word order in which the subject and the object can also be freely omitted. So, "loosely" speaking for the sake of quick and easy explanation, Koreans use case markers (or particles) to tell which noun is a subject and which noun is an object. [...]

At the same time, though, the fact that a song sung entirely in Korean is the biggest thing this year is pretty cool.

I don't like the song, but the video makes it for me. I can appreciate it since it's a deliberate parody. BTW, on a totally nerdy note, the girl in the video who shows up at 2:11 is another big pop star in Korea.

Some of the other people in the video, like the guy in the yellow suit and the guy in the elevator are also Korean celebrities. It's basically the equivalent of an SNL music video.

i'm not about to register for this "rare webinar", but i do have a sneaking suspicion that ultimately it will lead to the sooper sekrit advice to....

buy gold!

There can be no doubt.. What the gold pushers don't like to point out is that for the last 30 years the price of gold has trended right along with the GDP of India, the nation that buys the most gold.

They also don't like to point out how the world's gold supply increases about 3-4% a year from mining. At current prices it takes about ~$150 billion to buy the newly mined gold each year.

We have quit. Mitt won hands down & we did nothing. Whats left to do? Become a terrorest (emphasis mine) against our own country?

Somehow it seems like a "terrorest" should be a mattress that will increase your ability to sleep in your mountain redoubt.

Randomly random and OT:

Just bought the final piece for my new computer build (256GB SSD for the primary drive), and had to tell someone about it.

Build starts Thursday night.

SSD drives rock the world!
Sounds like a fun great build

India and Gold have an interesting history. In that, they seem to use it for EVERYTHING!

NORQUIST: NEW, LARGER 'TEA PARTY SECOND WAVE' COMING

"tea party" is apparently becoming a code word for "the attention of a buncha gullible marks all collected into one place"

the video advertised prominently to the right of the grover video promises "Discover the shocking policy Obama plans to sign into law during the fiscal cliff panic. Watch shocking video!"

in fact, if you watch this (7 minute) video, it is yet another shameless hustler who, actually, vapidly promotes yet another video "webinar", in which, he promises, he will teach you how to make 450% profits on your investments, "just like the super rich", while underneath the video we can read

i'm not about to register for this "rare webinar", but i do have a sneaking suspicion that ultimately it will lead to the sooper sekrit advice to....

He who coined the term 'webinar' should be severely punished. Stupid word.

It's interesting to ask "to what extent was the Tea Party astroturfed"

Also, the first time Fox was pushing the tea party, will they push it this time? Who was it who said that the tea party is just the "Fox news mickey mouse club"?

You might want to consider disabling Windows' automatic defragging feature, or somehow arrange for it to be done rarely.

I've been planning it for a while, finally managed to get a random job building a website and decided to use the cash to upgrade.

Motherboard: Asus P8-Z77V
Processor: Intel Core i5 3570k (will be overclocked)
Memory: 16GB Samsung 1.3 volt low voltage, low latency server RAM. (will also be overclocked)
SSD: Samsung 256GB 830 series
HDD: Seagate 3TB
Power Supply: Corsair 650 Watt
Sound Card: Asus Xonar PSX

Plus assorted random stuff to move the old stuff into the server. (2 old SSDs and 2 1TB HDs, so we need a bay converter to fit 3 drives into a dual slot).

Windows 8 automatically turns off defragging for SSDs, but yeah, I'll check and make sure it's off.

Windows 7 automatically turns it off as well if you are fully patched to latest updates. I just installed a 256GB SSD and cloned my existing drive over last night. Went a lot smoother than I thought it would, and yeah, it is a HUGE performance boost.
