Apparently, Tina Brown, publisher of the Daily Beast, sees nothing wrong with sharing the opinion pieces of heartless bastard Rick Santorum with whacked out conspiracy website World Net Daily, because today Santorum shows up at the Daily Beast with another column, still lying about the UN disability rights treaty just voted down by Senate Republicans: Santorum: UN Disabilities Treaty Would’ve Had Bureaucrats Unseat Parents.

I won’t even quote from this repulsive drivel, in which Santorum again shamelessly uses his own disabled daughter to advance his dishonest claims. I’ll just point out that every word in it is utterly false, including “the” and “and.”

The fact is that no UN treaty can ever supersede the US Constitution or the laws of the United States, as ruled many times by the Supreme Court. Santorum is promoting a flat out, scurrilous, evil lie, deliberately told to mislead people. Why does the Daily Beast publish far right dishonesty like this?

Conservatives fear they’re being pushed aside by Republican leaders as the party looks to regroup from its election losses.

Huelskamp is one of four Republicans who were stripped of committee seats this week for bucking leadership over the last term. Huelskamp lost his spot on the Budget Committee, where he voted against the House GOP’s budget last year along with Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI), who also was removed this week. David Schweikert (R-AZ) and Walter Jones (R-NC), who also voted against the budget from the right, lost seats on the Financial Services Committee.

“It confirms, in my mind, the deepest suspicions of most Americans about Washington, D.C.,” Huelskamp said. “It’s petty, its vindictive, and if you have any conservative principles you will be punished for articulating those.”

I would like to point out to you a better example of Catholicism then what you represent.

In Berlin, there is a house. Nondescript, ordinary, your typical residential apartment block. In that house there lives a group of Jesuits. These men take in the homeless. They help people overcome their addictions to booze and drugs. They even take in occasional illegal immigrants, and help them get their residency status sorted so they can stay in the country. They open their house every Saturday for breakfast for anyone who wishes to come. They ask for no money from those who stay there, only a little help around the house such as keeping it clean and with cooking and whatnot. They take people without regard to nationality, creed or color. They were my neighbors. They helped me learn more about the metaphysical dimensions of Sufism. They enjoyed going to the Sufi center and watching the dervishes and participating in the dhikr. They were good, decent, and in my opinion Godly men in every positive meaning of that term. They even invited the Sufi center's Sheikh over to help with spiritual counseling for Muslim immigrants and formed a small network with him for that very purpose.

These men were the servants of Jesus Christ (a.s.) and followed his example in their treatment of others. I would suggest that should you, Mr. Santorum, ever find yourself in Berlin, that you visit them. Perhaps even stay with them for awhile. You might learn something about the faith you claim to represent, but fail in its practice.

After months of diligent lobbying, these organizations were confident they had the support of several GOP senators who ended up opposing ratification of the U.N. Treaty on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

But GOP offices were flooded in the days leading up to the vote by calls from supporters of several rightwing groups, including Rick Santorum's Patriot PAC, the Family Research Council, and the advocacy arm of the Heritage Foundation.

Is the Republican Party starting to recover? Probably too much to hope for but Boehner's "purge" and Rubio's admission that the Earth is billions of years old are certainly hopeful signs. No, these guys have not changed their beliefs, if any. Rubio may be a lot of things, but he is not an idiot. He is an educated man and there is no chance he ever took the creationist claptrap seriously.

I think they are just tired of sucking up to nutcases and it has finally dawned on them that they don't have to do it.

I wish. Santorum in 2016 would more likely lose than not, but such a blow out is not possible. The Red states are enough of an electoral fortress for the GOP to prevent this.

For example, what Romney states would Santorum likely lose in 2016, if he were the nominee? North Carolina seems likeliest, but no others really come to mind.

Someone very intelligently pointed out the other day that the increased amount of 'safe' GOP districts attained by gerrymandering means those districts aren't 'safe' for incumbents anymore, they're very vulnerable to nutjob-from-the-right primaries. Add in the huge amount of money being thrown around on fringe candidates on the right, and you may get a recipe for long-standing radicalization of the GOP-- until they un-geryymander and make seats 'risky' so that they can appeal to the middle.

It's just such an amazing degree of scientific ignorance to think that the claim of AGW is that the earth has never experienced climate change before humans, and that only humans have affected the climate.

Hell, AGW isn't even inconsistent with young-earth creationism. Let's great that god did create the earth 6000 years ago. He still made carbon-dioxide something that traps heat in the atmosphere, and it's still warming up the earth.

That's what denial of AGW really is. It's denial of a basic physical property of carbon dioxide. It's like claiming that oxygen isn't flammable.
