Dinesh D’Souza Interviewed About Totally Not-Racist Anti-Obama Movie

Right wing intellectual titan explains his creative process
Wingnuts • Views: 30,378

Andrew Goldman interviews wingnut Dinesh D’Souza about his totally not-racist film predicting apocalypse if Obama was re-elected, inadvertent hilarity ensues: Dinesh D’Souza Looks Ahead.

This is what passes for an “intellectual” in today’s conservative movement; here’s a totally not-racist section in which he explains that he just assumed Obama’s Kenyan half-brother would be a “helpless slum kid” looking for a handout.

In your film, you traveled to Nairobi to interview Obama’s half brother, to get him to express frustration that the president hasn’t helped him financially. It had to be disappointing when he wasn’t upset at all.

Initially. Then I realized that this gives the story a more interesting twist. I expected George to be this helpless slum kid who had an outstretched hand. In fact, I find George to be a cunning, self-reliant guy — in a certain respect, a kind of conservative. He’s not looking for a handout. I admired George for that.

D’Souza wasn’t set back for long, though; when he discovered that his totally not-racist assumption was totally wrong, and that George wasn’t mad at Obama for not giving him a handout, he just used that to attack Obama instead. It’s an all-purpose totally not-racist accusation!

You suggest that President Obama may have decided not to support George because of his politics.

That’s right. It may be that Obama doesn’t want to help George because he sees George as an ideological enemy.

Perhaps the best glimpse into D’Souza’s character, though, is when he explains that he “didn’t know it was considered wrong in Christian circles” to get engaged to a woman while still married to another woman.

You recently resigned as president of the Christian-affiliated King’s College after it was reported that you brought a woman to a Christian convention and introduced her as your fiancée when neither of you had actually divorced your spouses. Did you do anything wrong?

I exercised imprudent judgment. In Christianity there is no intermediate status of being separated. I asked an attorney if there is anything problematic with being engaged while separated, and I was informed absolutely not.

You wrote, ‘I had no idea that it is considered wrong in Christian circles.’ I am not a Christian, but I’d guess that it would be high on the list of wrong things.

What I meant was I didn’t know what rule of Christian morality it violates. I recognize that there would be people who might say Dinesh has only met this woman a few months ago, Dinesh is rushing into things. But that is completely different from saying Dinesh is violating one of the Ten Commandments. Imprudent is not the same thing as wrong.

The scary thing is a dramatic erosion of American position in the world — its economic, military position, as well as America’s influence. Obama is not the man at the wheel desperately trying to conserve American power, influence and wealth. For ideological reasons, he wants the slipping to continue. He’s actually the architect of it.

Really done with him right there.

D'Souza's whole premise is that Obama is an enemy of the United States, and that's not an exaggeration. This is what he's selling.

My favorite moment in the Florida GOTV was the nice Republican lady telling us to watch his 2016--it would show us the error of our ways. Sadly, I had to interrupt her to help a nice Latino guy fill out his voter registration.

This is what passes for an “intellectual” in today’s conservative movement...

Some days I expect right wingers to call Ann Coulter an intellectual.

If you've ever seen her off guard, being interviewed by a doting Bill Maher you realize that she's simply an extremely dim and ill informed airhead.

Back before he, I don't know, changed his medications. Back when he was (in my opinion) the funniest writer on the internet, not a dull, obsessed, far right wing, anger addicted logorrhea victim. Back when he could still mock both left and right wingers for shallowness, Jeff G wrote a very funny (well in context of his other mock interviews) mock interview of Ann Coulter. He knew she was just a stuffed er shirt.

To start producing a Republican field that “looks like America” is one way to respond. The group I know best, Asian-Americans, are natural fodder for the party. Most are not only economic conservatives but subscribe to a social ideology that is to the right of Pat Robertson. Yet this is a group that actually is voting for Democrats. There’s something wrong here.

Reality refuses to conform to my descriptions of it!!!

"Was" is the operative word here, since D'Souza couldn't keep his dick out of women that weren't his wife, got engaged to someone else before his divorce to his current wife was finalized, and his RWNJ constituency at King's College found out about it all.

Most lost their minds after Obama was elected.

Jeff was lost long before Obama was elected. He stopped writing comedy - he used to be my favorite online writer. His former flaw of endlessly beating up people with half his IQ for imagined transgressions that they weren't actually capable of understanding let alone be guilty of morphed into more common right wing anger and hatred. He seemed to lose his actual intelligence to anger.

The Howard Dean comics were an ongoing series where he captioned pictures of all of the candidates into stories - thought there was a focus on Dean. They were gentle humor and very very funny. Sadly they're gone off the internet.

Jeff G's humor is still archived on his site, though the formatting is slightly messed up. He didn't used to sound like a right wing nutcase, and referred to himself as "southpark conservative". There was plenty of drug and sex humor, making fun of celebrities, political figures, intellectuals, song lyrics, poetry.

Speaking of series this was one I loved there's this [Link: proteinwisdom.com...] The martha stewart prison chronicles... Not sure they're all there though

George Will: ‘Quite Literally, The Opposition to Gay Marriage Is Dying’

“There is something like an emerging consensus,” Will said, noting voters in three states recently endorsed same-sex marriage initiatives. “Quite literally, the opposition to gay marriage is dying. It’s old people.”

....

But Republican strategist Mary Matalin said there are other issues at play.

“There are important constitutional, biological, theological, ontological questions relative to homosexual marriage, but people who live in the real world say the greatest threat to civil order is heterosexuals who don’t get married and are making babies,” Matalin said.

“That’s an epidemic in crisis proportions. That is irrefutably more problematic for our culture than homosexuals getting married,” she added.

I noticed the same thing too. I'm sure there are a bunch of reasons. Back then blogging was new, exciting and different. There was a genuine sense of exploration and discussion. Sept 11 sent a lot of people searching for answers, the right was more tolerant at the time and the South Park Conservatives were welcomed into the tent. There were tons of blogs, people with new or interesting ideas. I'm sure that still exists somewhere but it doesn't get much attention. There was money to be made. Guys like AllahPundit lost his sense of humor and his independence by joining Hot Air. He's now paid to write for an audience that hates him and the feeling is probably reciprocal. The blogosphere has been coopted and there's not much independent or innovative thought. The left and right blogs all run the same stories, often originating from the same handful of powerful and well funded "think tanks" of DC beltway insiders or whatever happens to be trending on twitter. The times have changed.

In other words, RWNJs get two-for-the-price-of-one: God-fearing white couples are tending to focus on careers and tend to have fewer kids later in life (not as many as in the past), while Scary Brown People (especially outside of the US) tend to have more kids historically IIRC.

The only Gishes that come to mind are Lillian and her sister. I'm old.

For reference: Gish Gallop:

The Gish Gallop, named after creationist Duane Gish, is the debating technique of drowning the opponent in such a torrent of half-truths, lies, and straw-man arguments that the opponent cannot possibly answer every falsehood in real time. The term was coined by Eugenie Scott of the National Center for Science Education. Sam Harris describes the technique as "starting 10 fires in 10 minutes."

The formal debating jargon term for this is spreading.[1] It arose as a way to throw as much rubbish into five minutes as possible. In response, some debate judges now limit number of arguments as well as time. However, in places where debating judges aren't there to call bullshit on the practice, like the internet, such techniques are remarkably common.

I noticed that for a while most of the threads were going into moderation queues after the first hour and the most entries in the the queues never processed. They manage to sanitize the site one way or another. It has been birther/bircher/tea party/sliding-into-racism central for a while. That has bad optics. Of course the actual line they're pushing is Koch bros birther/bircher stuff but they're trying not to SOUND like that's what they are to some extent; to not sound like the Breitbart crowd.

Idk. At a certain level of wrongness it feels like a total waste effort to figure out in what exact way people's brains fail to work. Well then, instead of focusing on the metaphysical ramifications of gay marriage, she should just embrace the fact that people want to live their lives and be left alone.

She's saying that non-married people that have babies are a GREATER threat than homosexual marriage.

I've heard Obama talk about the importance of an intact family many times

Of all the rocks upon which we build our lives, we are reminded today that family is the most important. And we are called to recognize and honor how critical every father is to that foundation. They are teachers and coaches. They are mentors and role models. They are examples of success and the men who constantly push us toward it.

But if we are honest with ourselves, we’ll admit that what too many fathers also are is missing--missing from too many lives and too many homes They have abandoned their responsibilities, acting like boys instead of men. And the foundations of our families are weaker because of it.

You and I know how true this is in the African-American community. And the foundations of our community are weaker because of it.

to Matalin's words:

"People who live in the real world say the greatest threat to civil order is heterosexuals who don’t get married and are making babies. That’s an epidemic in crisis proportions. That is irrefutably more problematic for our culture than homosexuals getting married..."

First, she begins with an condescending "people who live in the real world", followed by the words "threat", "epidemic", "crisis", and the term "more problematic" (as if gay marriage was a problem).

i regard coulter as a kind of glorified smartass 14 year old

No, she's too nasty to just be a smart ass. She's more like the bully who turns kids lives into a living Hell.

truth be told, neither did I. Just taking her (snipped) comment where she says
" the greatest threat to civil order is heterosexuals who don’t get married and are making babies,” Matalin said.

“That’s an epidemic in crisis proportions. That is irrefutably more problematic for our culture than homosexuals getting married,” she added.

Hyperbole, sure, but she obviously doesn't think gay marriage is a huge issue

I'm embarrassed to say, I've actually watched D'Souza's 2016 DVD.

Each and every minute of the video descends into plain absurdity. D'Souza really reaches for the stars in the "here I am on video, insulting myself" category. If you watch the interview with Obama's half brother, George, it's plain to see George smirking at D'Souza, apparently surprised by how messed up D'Souza really is.

For me, the most miserable thing about the video is how it takes deeply personal, raw, heartfelt stuff from Dreams From My Father, and twists them into more reasons to hate Obama. It's very much like eavesdropping on someone's heartfelt psychotherapy, then twisting the person's words, and maliciously changing the context. In addition to the disconnect from reality, there's some real cruelty on display in 2016.

Back.

One more thought on Jeff G.'s site. So I remember that there's this nuts right wing genius writer. Since I didn't get any sleep last night, he makes me feel even more insecure about my bad writing. God the stuff I wrote today is incoherent (not on this site though).

Anyway so he's become this odd creature, an intelligent erudite tea party nutcase. I have so much experience reading tea party forums with where the average person can't read let alone write that I'm a bit in shock going back through his recent archives.

His comment section isn't QUITE as good as it used to be since he lost his mind, but it's still a lot more literate than most. So here they are spouting all of the usual far right memes and paranoid bullshit, in perfect English with clever literary references.

I feel like I'm being mugged in a back ally by a knife wielding Cary Grant. There's something very wrong with this picture.

Lesson for today: you can be intelligent and really hate the poor and really feel that your people your family are superior and entitled. It's possible for a brilliant man to think like a modern aristocrat who drips absolute contempt for most of humanity.

I will stop here, it's off topic anyway. Reading more I had a thought it was a bit like reading some taliban member. I've done that sort of thing before, argued with some hater in Pakistan, with a Hezbollah member in Lebanon, with a Hezbollah supporter who's parents sent him to London so he wouldn't end up a thug.

It's like noticing that Cat Stevens became a religious fanatic and repudiated his own music. Fanatics are fanatics even if they used to be sensitive and talented.

She's not the only reason that I am sometimes embarassed to be a Michigan Law grad, but she's the most frequent one.

He also missed the part about bearing false witness.
