Family Research Council Sued for Sexual Harassment and Discrimination by Former Official

In order to make it appear as if they actually care what the womenfolk think, fanatical religious right groups like the Family Research Council like to create token positions for women within the company, with lofty sounding titles like “Director of Women’s and Reproductive Health.” Who could ever be opposed to that? What war on women?

So it’s kind of embarrassing, but also highly revealing, when the former Director of Women’s and Reproductive Health for the Family Research Council sues the organization for vindictively firing her when she filed a sexual harassment complaint against her sexist pig boss.

According to court documents first obtained and reported by journalist Evan Gahr, former FRC employee Moira Gaul, 42, filed a complaint in 2009 with the District of Columbia Human Rights Commission in which she accused her supervisor of gender discrimination. She claimed that her boss, the director of the Center for Human Life and Bioethics at the time, referred to the use of birth control pills as “whoring around,” addressed emails to her with the words “hi cutie,” pressured her to attend parties, and referred to her as a “young, attractive woman.”

“His attitude toward me and other women was rude, belittling, and at times, angry,” she wrote in the complaint.

Gahr identified Gaul’s former supervisor as prominent anti-abortion lawyer William Saunders, who now works at the anti-abortion group Americans United for Life. Saunders and his attorney, William J. Hickey, did not respond to requests for comment on the case.

The FRC fired Gaul shortly after she filed the complaint, citing a loss in federal funding for abstinence — Gaul’s area of expertise — and the need for someone with more experience on abortion issues. Gaul claims the FRC also retroactively canceled her health insurance for the time that she was on short-term disability for systemic lupus.

I'm shocked just shocked that this would happen at the FRC.

Unpossible! Everyone knows that "pro-life" and "pro-family" types can't possibly be sexist assholes.

If you dig deeper into those groups and those people, it all eventually boils down to hating women in some way.

They're some very repressed individuals.Reminds me of what I think I heard a gay comic say on Louie- "I talk about gay sex more with you guys than I do with my gay friends." FRC are obsessed with what they perceive to be the deviance of others when they themselves won't shut up about it.

Sure but they seem to like it when the opinions mirror their own. And those will be shown to the country as "true women." It's why they love Palin and Bachmann because Palin and Bachmann re-enforce what they believe.

I've been seeing a certain amount of "feminism is responsible for mass murders" floating around with regards to both the Oregon and Connecticut shootings. Boys should be raised to be chivalrous men who defend women and children (from what they are being defended is never mentioned-I assume it is other manly men.) If we went back to how things used to be men could be their natural selves and wouldn't feel the need to shoot random people.

The problem with both that and the idea that women are either Madonnas or whores, as well as that women in the workplace are asking for harassment, is none of these see women as actual human beings, not identical to men, but with equal rights, responsibilities and dignity.
Who knew this was such a difficult concept?

Sen. Alexander: Problem Is With People Pulling The Trigger

"We should ask the leaders of the entertainment industry whether they would want their children -- or those who might harm their children -- to watch the increasingly violent video games and movies that they pour into our culture," Alexander said Monday. "This is not the only cause of violence in our society, but it is one important cause."

Some news reports have indicated the 20-year-old Connecticut gunman played violent computer games. Alexander said "we must look closely at the behavior of isolated young men who develop an obsession with violence."

"The problem is not with the gun, but with the person pulling the trigger.

But the idea of making it harder for them to get to a trigger is never an option.

Funny how much they blame video game or movie violence, when all you need to do to see violence is to look outside. Wars, police brutality, torture, state-sanctioned violence. But, hey, let's blame fiction.

Prior to the introduction of the moving picture, humanity was well known for its long periods of peace and tranquility, free of violence and bloodshed.

The CT shootings were obviously horrible, but why is it that we as humans can't get worked up about essentially the same number of people dying from gunshots every day in this country? That would include suicide, murder and accident and yeah, some of those people might die of something else, but let's face it, there aren't a lot of fatal knife accidents.

32 Sol Berdinowitz  Tue, Dec 18, 2012 1:34:59pm

A bit of devil's advocacy here, but what sort of workplace atmosphere did this woman expect? Their position on the role of women was quite clear: totally subjugated to the whims and desires of men.

I am not defending or supporting this sort of attitude, but it seems that any woman who enters a workplace like that should be well aware of what she has gotten herself into: a figurehead position where she is expected to shut up, smile and do what she is told.

• No more dangerous than item that caused a fatality in the last 1500 years

Probably has something to do with not having a mother in the home 24/7 and the poor guy grew up doing his own laundry . . .
