Speaker of the House John Boehner was reelected to that position today, but just barely: Boehner Reelected as Speaker; Nine Republicans Defect in Vote.

Rep. John Boehner (R-Ohio) was reelected Speaker of the House on Thursday after a week of rumors of a possible GOP revolt. 

Boehner won a bare majority in a vote that saw nine Republicans vote for other GOP members, and several others who abstained from voting or voted “present.” Two years ago, Boehner won all 241 available GOP votes.

The two craziest Republicans in the House, Paul “Evolution is a Lie from the Pit of Hell” Broun and Louie “Terror Babies” Gohmert, voted for — believe it or not — lunatic war criminal Allen West. Gotta love that.

Ah I figured that vote may have been from a Democrat since Powell's become persona non grata to the Republicans. Oh and apparently you don't have to be a House member to be Speaker but obviously all previous Speakers have and I imagine will continue to be.

Nothing, really. Most of them are in safe districts populated with crazy/stupid shits, so they'll most likely be re-elected and aren't worried about getting primaried.

I mean, that's it. There's no recourse at that point except for PBO to find a legal loophole and keep things running without Congress. I doubt he'd do it because he can be a pussy at times, but, here we are.

Not sure of the facts and circumstances there, but if the local prosecutors are sitting on the case, and the judge is related to a suspect in the case, then there's all kinds of reasons for the Ohio AG to get involved, which it appears he's doing. If the facts warrant going forward with the case, then the AG could demand the judge recuse himself because of the conflict of interest.

The goal should be get the remaining Moderates in the Republican out into a notable Third Party.

If Barack Obama and the Party of Treason can beat the Republicans down to the point where they abdicate or at least refuse to fight for their Constitutionally mandated role in controlling the purse, America will no longer have three co-equal branches of government.

If Obama wins this next battle, it will fundamentally transform America and our government. Which is exactly what he said he wanted to do when he ran in 2008. Obama has spoken several times, almost longingly talking about how he wishes he had dictatorial powers. Now, here is his chance.

The legislative branch, instead of being equal to the executive will now become inferior and submissive. The tyranny of the strong leader that our founding fathers feared will have materialized here in America.

I don't think there's enough GOP moderates left. Seems like every term, a few of them either retire or get primaried off. We had one here in NOVA. Now teaches at my alma mater. His seat is now held by a Dem. I don't mind Powell but I don't see how he would make a good Speaker given that he has no legislative experience whatsoever.

Also should mention that elected officials seem to have a strong sense to their party. Even ones that become increasingly far away from their party. I remember Lincoln Chaffee saying he felt he couldn't leave the GOP because he was named after Abe Lincoln. Most of these guys especially the career politicians are guys who go through the ranks of their party. They start out at their college or even high school youth version of their party. Not saying I condone the "my team" bs part of politics but this is what it is. A Florida man was shot in the face twice with a pellet gun during the early hours of Wednesday morning after being confronted by another man in the parking lot of a Walmart store in Lutz, near Tampa Bay.

The shooter allegedly asked his victim, “Are you of Middle Eastern descent?” and “Are you Muslim?” before shouting a racial slur and opening fire.

Police told a reporter with MyFox Tampa Bay that the suspect is still at large, and that they are investigating the incident as a hate crime. The shooter is described as a white male between 18 and 30 with short blond hair, standing about 6 feet tall and weighing about 180 pounds.

The Right Wing Derp about the temporary payroll tax expiration is already gaining mythic proportions. Already you have people claiming that their taxes went up by $200 a week and similar nonsense. First there has not even been a pay period in this fiscal year yet. Second you would have to be making $10,000 a week for your taxes to go up $200. Third if you really are making that much you only pay the tax on the first $113,000 of income and then pay nothing after that.

These howls from people about the payroll tax returning to what it has been for more than 25 years are ridiculous. It was always meant to be a temporary cut to put more spending money into the hands of the lower wage workers and hopefully boost consumer spending a little. Meanwhile the Fed has had to "borrow" more money from elsewhere (really they have just been shuffling the books) to make up the money that SSDI should have been receiving.

Funny how it is always the people that make the loudest claims about how much they love this country that never want to pay anything towards making it work.

The weapon wasn't capable of actually killing someone. Thus an attempted murder charge is in my opinion legally inappropriate. This is not an attempt by my to justify or minimize the bigot's actions, but rather my belief that the charge must fit the crime.

Heh. That reminds me. It really is disturbing to me how often I see Pinochet defended in right wing circles because he had a free market approach to the economy. Yeah forget about that whole mass murder of dissidents thing. He was a capitalist so he was great!

Chile's economy really took off just about when Pinochet stepped down in 1990. For most of his rule, the economy went nowhere.

I mean, I'd agree with ya if it was a BB gun or something that would never penetrate flesh, but when I hear 'pellet' it's really no different than using a real gun in terms of using air to push a bullet intended to penetrate and do damage.

I understand now. I hadn't understood the situation before but once I did i corrected myself at once.
