Boehner Reelected as Speaker by Bare Majority

Lame duck Speaker
Politics • Views: 31,276

Speaker of the House John Boehner was reelected to that position today, but just barely: Boehner Reelected as Speaker; Nine Republicans Defect in Vote.

Rep. John Boehner (R-Ohio) was reelected Speaker of the House on Thursday after a week of rumors of a possible GOP revolt.

Boehner won a bare majority in a vote that saw nine Republicans vote for other GOP members, and several others who abstained from voting or voted “present.” Two years ago, Boehner won all 241 available GOP votes.

The two craziest Republicans in the House, Paul “Evolution is a Lie from the Pit of Hell” Broun and Louie “Terror Babies” Gohmert, voted for — believe it or not — lunatic war criminal Allen West. Gotta love that.

Ah I figured that vote may have been from a Democrat since Powell's become persona non grata to the Republicans. Oh and apparently you don't have to be a House member to be Speaker but obviously all previous Speakers have and I imagine will continue to be.

They tried it last year and Obama told them to go fuck themselves. No, this time they will be demanding that Medicare be turned into a voucher and that Medicaid be "returned" to states in block grants. Basically the Ryan Plan. I think Obama's response will be the same.

Nothing, really. Most of them are in safe districts populated with crazy/stupid shits, so they'll most likely be re-elected and aren't worried about getting primaried.

I mean, that's it. There's no recourse at that point except for PBO to find a legal loophole and keep things running without Congress. I doubt he'd do it because he can be a pussy at times, but, here we are.

That's assuming that Powell would accept being SoH. Remember, he's seventy five years old and his wife has never liked the limelight. He probably wants to enjoy his retirement in peace and I don't blame him. Plus I doubt Powell is too popular in the GOP caucus these days anyhow.

Not sure of the facts and circumstances there, but if the local prosecutors are sitting on the case, and the judge is related to a suspect in the case, then there's all kinds of reasons for the Ohio AG to get involved, which it appears he's doing. If the facts warrant going forward with the case, then the AG could demand the judge recuse himself because of the conflict of interest.

Hackers produce disturbing video evidence in Ohio gang rape case

The boys glorified their crime online, shooting Instagram photos of the assault, making lewd updates on Facebook and Twitter, and allowing their friends, like Nodianos, to shoot photos and make their own updates and videos about the incident. In spite of the abduction and attack’s high profile in social media, townspeople have been reluctant to aid the prosecution of the crime in any way, lest it jeopardize The Big Red’s chances at another state championship.

Nate Hubbard, 27, a volunteer Big Red coach, went so far as to accuse the victim of making the whole thing up to excuse a night of excessive partying, “The rape was just an excuse, I think,” he told the New York Times.

“What else are you going to tell your parents when you come home drunk like that and after a night like that?” Hubbard asked. “She had to make up something. Now people are trying to blow up our football program because of it.”
...
“They pissed on her,” he said, before launching into a list of famous people the teenage victim was “deader than,” including “Caylee Anthony” and “OJ Simpson’s wife,” as well as “John F. Kennedy” and slain Florida teenager Trayvon Martin.

The dossier published by KnightSec also revealed the intricate web of association between top Big Red players and staff and Steubenville’s top brass. Coach Saccoccia regularly breakfasts with the county sheriff. One of the boys accused of suppressing the crime is the son of a county prosecutor.

Meanwhile, it will be difficult for the defense team to allege that no crime took place with Nodianos insisting in his video, “They raped her more than the Duke lacrosse team” and slapping his thigh and laughing when a teammate asks, “Is she going to feel it?” and responding, “No, she’s dead!”

Tea Party Nation: Obama 'Hates America'

What he really wants is the power to be a dictator.

Barack Obama does not like the American system of government. He doesn’t like our founding fathers either. Our founding fathers were very wise. They dealt with tyranny in their lifetime. The fundamental purpose of the way they set up our government was not to be efficient or even to accommodate rapid change.

It was to block the accumulation of power by one man.

Barack Obama wants to change this.

Obama does not love America. He hates America. He looks at America through his Marxist background and sees not the greatest nation in the world. He does not see the country that has done more good for more people than any other nation. He sees the evil oppressive power that Marxists always view America as.

By continuing to borrow money, unabated, he knows sooner or later debt will completely bring down the American economy and possibly the American state.

There is a deeper battle here as well.

If Barack Obama and the Party of Treason can beat the Republicans down to the point where they abdicate or at least refuse to fight for their Constitutionally mandated role in controlling the purse, America will no longer have three co-equal branches of government.

If Obama wins this next battle, it will fundamentally transform America and our government. Which is exactly what he said he wanted to do when he ran in 2008. Obama has spoken several times, almost longingly talking about how he wishes he had dictatorial powers. Now, here is his chance.

The legislative branch, instead of being equal to the executive will now become inferior and submissive. The tyranny of the strong leader that our founding fathers feared will have materialized here in America.

Holy crap. There's so much potential criminality and liability there that it's almost mind boggling.

Besides those involved in the rape itself, you've got everyone involved in the coverup, the dissemination of the video, the law enforcement that failed to investigate, the local prosecutor that failed to do his job.

Burn to the ground? No. Prosecute into nothingness. Absolutely.

They were more worried that their precious football team would be around to win a state championship than punish those football players who were involved. That's something straight out of the Paterno playbook.

I can only hope the Ohio AG goes and prosecutes the everlasting life out of those involved - and gets everyone else associated with the program on obstruction charges.

And when he's done, the victim ought to sue them and more.

Nothing, same as the WH can reject it and let the debt limit stand as is. Congress is still beholden to pay for the debt that they (congress) had previously, in years gone by, voted to incur. Debt limit is another manufactured BS point of contention. The constitution mandates that it be paid (with a couple provisions of what won't be paid, like money to anyone trying to overthrow the government)

Am I the only one who imagines Michelle Bachmann's repeal ACA bill to be the same repeal ACA bill she always submits just with the date scratched off at the top of the bill with a sharpie and a hastily written whatever date she's introducing it again? Amazes me that some people think that woman is presidential or even congressional leadership material. She's insane. Obama's not going to sign that repeal, Michelle. He's just not.

re: #73 Kragar

Obama hates America so much he just made the Bush tax cuts permanent for most Americans. Yeah, that's some serious hate.

Oh, you mean he hates the rich? Yeah, he's hating them to the tune of Bill Clinton who had the same tax rate in effect for the top tax bracket.

Oh, you mean allowing the payroll tax holiday expire? Yeah, that was a temporary measure - it was intended never to be permanent. The GOP might have had a wet dream about making the reduction permanent so as to starve SSDI and Medicare but that wasn't going to happen because those who receive the benefits (after paying into the system for decades) might not take kindly to that.

Oh, you mean the capital gains? Yeah, even there the rates aren't going up to confiscatory levels by any stretch.

In other words, a whole lot of hot air signifying nothing.

Why would the Democrats help a party that could end up as its top opposition? Anyhow if the GOP implodes, it implodes without the Democrats help in forging a new party. I'm not disagreeing with the broad gist of your point. We do need a more serious and more moderate minded conservatism in this country but creating a party out of thin air isn't going to happen. Enough moderate Republicans have to say fuck it, I've had enough of these crazy wackjobs. Now in some ways, that is happening but it's not going to be done with the Democrats forcing the issue. Here's an example, the Democrats didn't persuade the Anti-Slavery Whigs to form what became the Republican Party. The Anti-Slavery Whigs had enough of the Whig Party's bs on slavery and started their own party.

Also should mention that elected officials seem to have a strong sense to their party. Even ones that become increasingly far away from their party. I remember Lincoln Chaffee saying he felt he couldn't leave the GOP because he was named after Abe Lincoln. Most of these guys especially the career politicians are guys who go through the ranks of their party. They start out at their college or even high school youth version of their party. Not saying I condone the "my team" bs part of politics but this is what it is. Hell you still have some Southern Democrats who would probably be Republicans if they grew up north and west of the Mason-Dixon line but can't bring themselves to leave the Democrats because Daddy was a Democrat and so was his Daddy and his Daddy.

Here's an interesting site I found concerning NJ Governor Chris Christie:

Where's Christie?

The linked page shows all the trips Christie made in 2012 on behalf of Republican candidates and office-holders.

Aug. 1, 2012 A Conversation with Republican Governors Christie participated in a round table discussion at the Aspen Institute featuring Governors Nikki Haley (R-SC), Bobby Jindal (R-LA), Bob McDonnell (R-VA), and Scott Walker (R-WI). Walter Isaacson, President and CEO of the Aspen Institute, moderated the conversation. Isaacson is also well known for his recent biography of Steve Jobs.

To be fair, a lot of his trips were on behalf of Mitt Romney and not just your generic dingleberry House or Senate Republican candidate, but as others here have said, with Christie you're going to get a little bipartisanship, but a *lot* of Republicanism.

Florida man who shot victim asked: ‘Are you Muslim?’

A Florida man was shot in the face twice with a pellet gun during the early hours of Wednesday morning after being confronted by another man in the parking lot of a Walmart store in Lutz, near Tampa Bay.

The shooter allegedly asked his victim, “Are you of Middle Eastern descent?” and “Are you Muslim?” before shouting a racial slur and opening fire.

Police told a reporter with MyFox Tampa Bay that the suspect is still at large, and that they are investigating the incident as a hate crime. The shooter is described as a white male between 18 and 30 with short blond hair, standing about 6 feet tall and weighing about 180 pounds.

The Right Wing Derp about the temporary payroll tax expiration is already gaining mythic proportions. Already you have people claiming that their taxes went up by $200 a week and similar nonsense. First there has not even been a pay period in this fiscal year yet. Second you would have to be making $10,000 a week for your taxes to go up $200. Third if you really are making that much you only pay the tax on the first $113,000 of income and then pay nothing after that.

These howls from people about the payroll tax returning to what it has been for more than 25 years are ridiculous. It was always meant to be a temporary cut to put more spending money into the hands of the lower wage workers and hopefully boost consumer spending a little. Meanwhile the Fed has had to "borrow" more money from elsewhere (really they have just been shuffling the books) to make up the money that SSDI should have been receiving.

Funny how it is always the people that make the loudest claims about how much they love this country that never want to pay anything towards making it work.

Even a halfway decent pellet rifle can easily kill a person depending on where the shot hits. Hell, my old Sheridan could put a pellet through a heavy oak wall (it's an old pump and has dick for range).

Uhh...pellet guns do kill people occasionally, if he had managed to hit him in the eye cavity the man would now have a pellet in his brain. Maybe deadly, maybe not, but a .22 pellet traveling at 1600 FPS (there are pellet guns now on the market that achieve this speed) can do some real damage.
