It does, but only if Congress doesn’t monkey around with the sequester.
One of the primary reasons that the sequester was put off was because it was seen as a drag on the economy by cutting too much government spending too fast (yeah, I know 10% across the board hits lots of programs that both D & R want or need), but no one really wants to see those cuts take hold because both D & R want ‘em (and their constituents want or need them).
In the abstract it’s great to want to say cut 10% of the NOAA budget, but 10% means the difference between potentially launching a new weather satellite that could save 100 or 1000x the cost of the launch over its life in projecting storm paths and providing critical data to climatologists and meteorologists. That’s just one slice of the budget puzzle, but you can go down the line.
And taken together with whatever tax hikes are agreed upon (both in the fiscal cliff deal and going forward), you would have a US version of austerity that the political class realizes would be a bitter pill to swallow, even as the GOP is talking fiscal responsibility.
They want “fiscal responsibility” without any actual responsibility. It’s empty plaudits that win over voters, even if they remain the party of obstruction to do so.

Thanks. I have a hard time following Congressional Spending and Budgeting. IT seems the goal posts get moved so often and the semantics involved are circular (If you know what I mean).
I suppose it’s possible but it is a press release from Center for American Progress. It’s really easy to fudge economic data for public consumption since most people don’t understand economics and reporters will mostly just repeat claims. I’d take it with a grain of salt.

Congress never wants to take actual responsibility, because actually taking responsibility and making hard choices in politics is often rewarded by the responsible officeholder getting pitched out on his or her ear. Hard budget choices = People getting hurt by some of those choices = angry voters = primary challenge or higher quality general election challenger.
“Until today I have not seen a single incident or example of rape with a respected lady,” Sharma said in an interview at a cafe outside the Supreme Court in India’s capital. “Even an underworld don would not like to touch a girl with respect.”

i’ll go out on a limb here and take the position that despite the fact that there is sure to be a considerable amount of “waste, fraud, and abuse” in the federal budget, in general WE ARE NOT SPENDING TOO MUCH
most of the money coming out of the federal budget goes to health care, the national pension plan, defense spending, and building useful things. most of the money goes directly to americans, who spend it in america, where it stimulates the american economy every time a dollar changes hands between american buyers and sellers buying and selling american things

I think the most difficult part of this for me is that this archaic thinking is being spouted by the lawyer. I could understand if it were coming from a village person, uneducated and still steeped in tribal/cultural mysticism.
That depends on what you compare the legislation with:
It’s a little complicated but it’s a matter of perspective. See the headings for “Relative to what would have occurred under the laws previously in effect, this legislation will increase budget deficits in coming years. ” vs “Relative to what would have occurred if most tax and spending policies that were in effect in 2012 were continued, this legislation will reduce budget deficits in coming years. “

The attorney should know better.
I think the “women are second class people” mentally permeates a great many levels of Indian culture, much as it does in Saudi Arabia. The Indians just aren’t quite as blatant about publicizing it.

Lawyers and lawmakers do not arise in a social/cultural vacuum.
Yes, silly to think that a person smart enough to be an attorney would have a basic understanding and respect for science. That must be necessary to understand such things as rape.
The male emotional need (in general, not all individual males) for recognition and status seems to permeate even the most grounded of brains. One can always feel superior to women I guess.

Yes, 27 years of “her own way” might get tiresome after a while…

As a child, I didn't understand most of the midnight phone calls to my mom, or the times women would come over with children in tow, sometimes even in pajamas, and I would be told to go entertain them while Mama ensconced herself in her bedroom with their mother. Once, my mom spotted a bruised woman with three children holding a cardboard sign in ...

The always-on, simultaneous society in which we have found ourselves has altered our relationship to culture, media, news, politics, economics, and power. We are living in a digital temporal landscape, but instead of exploiting its asynchronous biases, we are misguidedly attempting to extend the time-is-money agenda of the Industrial Age into the current era. The result is a disorienting and dehumanizing mess, where the ...
