Note to Republicans: Please Keep Talking About Rape

They just can’t help being cavemen
Wingnuts • Views: 25,856

It’s hard to believe that these Neanderthal morons haven’t yet figured out how incredibly bad they make themselves look when they start spouting off about rape, but once again a Republican is showing the world why the GOP should not be allowed near the reins of power: GOP Rep: Todd Akin ‘Partly Right’ on Legitimate Rape.

And this lunatic is chairman of the GOP Doctors’ Caucus.

Rep. Phil Gingrey, an ob-gyn and chairman of the GOP Doctors Caucus, explained to the audience at the Cobb Chamber of Commerce breakfast Thursday in Smyrna, Ga., that Akin wasn’t far off on the science when he said rape victims rarely get pregnant because their bodies have “ways of shutting that whole thing down.”

“I’ve delivered lots of babies, and I know about these things. It is true,” Gingrey said, according to the Marietta Daily Journal. “We tell infertile couples all the time that are having trouble conceiving because of the woman not ovulating, ‘Just relax. Drink a glass of wine. And don’t be so tense and uptight because all that adrenaline can cause you not to ovulate.’ So he was partially right wasn’t he?”

“But the fact that a woman may have already ovulated 12 hours before she is raped, you’re not going to prevent a pregnancy there by a woman’s body shutting anything down because the horse has already left the barn, so to speak,” Gingrey continued. “And yet the media took that and tore it apart.”

Yes, that’s right — you just witnessed an ob-gyn doctor who advises his patients to drink booze in order to get pregnant.

And now, of course, he’s desperately trying to claim his idiotic remarks were “misconstrued.”

At a breakfast yesterday morning, I was asked why Democrats made abortion a central theme of the presidential campaign. I do not defend, nor do I stand by, the remarks made by Rep. Akin and Mr. Mourdock, Gingrey said, referring to the Indiana Senate candidate who lost after saying pregnancies from rape are something that God intended.

In my attempt to provide context as to what I presumed they meant, my position was misconstrued, Gingrey said.

What right wing sexism?

2 Sol Berdinowitz  Fri, Jan 11, 2013 11:18:30am

Democrats made sure that maintaining right to choice was a central theme of the election because the GOP has been making a major theme out of restricting or banning abortions.

These statements have to be seen in light of their context: they want to prevent raped women from being able to obtain abortions, going so far as to allow the rapist to sue the mother in the event of one.

This is the context they refuse to see.

“Republican” and “Women’s health” don’t belong in the same sentence unless you add “ignorant”, “assholes”, and “don’t care”.

This dumbshit OB/GYN does know that the window of fertility is a solid two days before and after ovulation, right?

Do women have magical time-traveling stress rays that prevent ovulation days before a rape, or something?

As far as I know, he’s never had anyone run against him. Any democrat who runs here ends up having to fight a district that gets flooded with GOP money and bullshit lies in advertising and on talk radio, the second there’s a whisper of a Dem running. Along with the gerrymandering that’s happened over the last two decades it’s going to be hard for Georgia to get rid of this guy(along with his fellow teanut in the neighboring district, Tom Price). His last campaign slogan was “Phil Gingrey: He Delivered!” Delivered what I have no idea, but there you go. It’s Georgia, at least we’re not America’s Wang: Florida.

That’s all I’ve got, besides a headache.

Maybe he’s delivered lots of pork federal spending, which is a really terrible thing to do and an example of runaway spending and socialistic redistribution if some other member of congress does it.

More than that, actually. I’ve read that sperm can lurk around for 6 days, waiting for their opportunity. Ova only last a day or two.

What if a woman has a drink after she’s raped?

15 Hal_10000  Fri, Jan 11, 2013 11:29:42am
Yes, that’s right — you just witnessed an ob-gyn doctor who advises his patients to drink booze in order to get pregnant.

Actually, we’ve been trying to pregnant for a while and have had doctors say the same thing: that getting tense and nervous and constantly doing ovulation tests and whatever makes it difficult to get pregnant. They didn’t say drink, per se, but they did say to try to relax, take it easy, have a nice night out, etc.

Of course, that has nothing to do with rape. There is very little evidence that stress can prevent pregnancy. Doctors recommend decreasing stress when trying to get pregnant because it can’t hurt. But there’s no proof that it actually helps. And there is zero evidence that it stops rape victims from getting pregnant. If you look at the numbers, you’ll find raped women get pregnant about 5% of the time — the same rate as women not using birth control.

So, yeah, he’s a fricking moron.

And I’m going to have to do something about the head-shaped dent in my desk.

16 Sol Berdinowitz  Fri, Jan 11, 2013 11:31:39am

The GOP cannot do anything about this sort of talk because it needs these guys at a state and local level to win elections and maintain the house.

They fail to see that it is going to cost them national elections as long as this sort of scary talk turns women out in droves to defend the basic rights we all started to think we could take for granted.

Really, it’s worse than that. It’s not that they think marital/date rape don’t exist. It’s that they have declared that they don’t exist, even in principle, and are doing their best to legislate to that effect.

Pretty much it’s exactly what Lee Atwater was talking about when he made that famous 3xNi-CLANG statement. If this guy (and Akin/Mourdock et al.) actually spoke what they believed, they’d say that women are property to be owned, traded, and bartered, to serve them when they see fit. I’d also bet they’d say the same thing about certain people who should still be slaves in their minds.

There’s that, and then there’s the attitude that women should not have sex outside wedlock, and haveing a “rape clause”, you see, would make it “too easy” for women to claim they had been raped…

Slightly less primitive, but still unacceptable to any civilized society.

Fischer: High-Capacity Magazines Necessary to Defend Yourself from a Posse

On yesterday’s broadcast, Brian Fischer discussed an incident in Georgia in which a woman used a .38 caliber handgun to shoot an intruder who had broken into her home to make the case for the need for high-capacity magazines on the grounds that just because a simple handgun was effective in this situation, what if someone needed to defend themselves from a “posse”?

I am not comparing anything. 96% of the human and chimpanzee DNA is “similar” overall, but there are some very significant differences in some chromosomes, and other chromosomes are “nearly identical.”

Neanderthal DNA is 99.7 percent identical to modern human DNA, with Humans having 1 to 4 percent “the same” DNA as Neanderthals.

I don’t know the difference between “identical” and “the same” in terms of DNA, but apparently there is a difference.

The racism in Fischer’s comment was overt and obvious, but did no one else see the irony in the need for semi-autos to protect the semi-autos?

Yesterday, Bryan Fischer responded to the news that pastor Louie Giglio had withdrawn from participation in President Obama’s inauguration by declaring that anti-gay Christians were “the new Rosa Parks” and the victims of modern-day Jim Crow laws.

Darks point was that there existed one particular event where an armed civilian was able to stop a school shooting in progress.

Don’t jump down his throat just for bringing up a point of data even if it most likely is an outlier given how many other school shootings were not stopped this way.

It’s valid, but it’s still statistically insignificant. We can clearly see armed guards do not in general work at stopping mass killings, or any killings, at schools or elsewhere.

Very rarely, when circumstances are perfect, they stop them.

In a gerrymandered district, the big vote is the primary, not the general election. Winning primaries is harder, mostly because so few people vote in them. You have to appeal to your party’s base voters, who tend to reside closer to the political extremes than to the center.

When I saw this on CNN this morning, I thought I would have a stroke with all the yelling at my tv and screaming for the Black woman on the opposing side to shout him down. Idiot!

First shot?
He was headed to the parking lot. I repeat, he had already killed two and shot 7 more. He was done.

At that school, but he subsequently made clear he’d planned to shoot up more than one school that day.

re: #78 S’latch

I am not comparing anything. 96% of the human and chimpanzee DNA is “similar” overall, but there are some very significant differences in some chromosomes, and other chromosomes are “nearly identical.”

Neanderthal DNA is 99.7 percent identical to modern human DNA, with Humans having 1 to 4 percent “the same” DNA as Neanderthals.

I don’t know the difference between “identical” and “the same” in terms of DNA, but apparently there is a difference.

The best way to put it is that if you traced back the family “tree”, (it won’t be a tree that far back, because the same person will appear several times in your lineage, but still) and you’re not from sub-Saharan Africa, you’d have somewhere between 1 and 4 percent of your ancestors at the generation of 40 000 years ago or so be Neanderthals. In other words, a lot of us are hybrids from some cross-species breeding. Including, oddly enough, almost all of those who worry about “miscegenation”.

Jamesfirecat had it right in that these data points of armed citizens swooping and saving the day are outliers. It starts getting into that nonsense of “an armed society is a safe society.”

As for God’s perfection: fucking bang up job he did in Sandy Hook. Perfectly sat by and let 20 kids ages 7 and under get slaughtered.

It’s called free will. We do not have a chip in our heads that just shuts us down when we decide to do evil. If you were God, would you put one in?

If you were God, would you put one in?

If I were G_d, and saw that people thought Republicans represented me, then probably yes, but only for ‘those’ Republicans.

Here.

He killed his mother before going to the school. He stated he did it because he had been bullied and mistreated all of his life.
I see no mention that he had planned to go “shoot up” another school.

The school’s assistant principal, Joel Myrick stopped him from getting away by retrieving a .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol from his truck and held him in the parking lot until police arrived. The shooter was already in his mother’s car.

Good for Myrick for detaining him, but he didn’t stop any shootings.

Amazing. They are forgetting the first rule.

The first rule of the GOP no rape exception for abortion club is to not talk about it.

Confirmation received.

“This is actually pretty simple. If you’re about to talk about rape as anything other than a brutal and horrible crime, stop,” said Republican strategist Kevin Madden, who was a senior adviser in Mitt Romney’s campaign.

Susan B. Anthony List president Marjorie Dannenfelser said the lawmakers are falling for a trap set by proponents of abortion rights who want to focus the debate on extremes such as rape instead of other abortions.
“It’s a tactic to [force pro-life lawmakers to] talk about this rather than the 98 percent of abortions because they know that they lose it,” Dannenfelser said.

If you read the comments at the Marietta Daily Journal, you’ll see that Gingrey has done what Democrats in his district could not; by simultaneously insulting women, gun people, and anyone who’s ever had outpatient mental health care, he has achieved bipartisan consensus that he may as well retire from the House after 2014.
