Man Who Helped Sandy Hook Kids Is Harassed by Conspiracy Theorists

Wingnuts • Views: 34,929

A man who found six children in his driveway in Newtown, Conn., after their teacher had been shot and killed in last month’s school massacre has become the target of conspiracy theorists who believe the shootings were staged.

“I don’t know what to do,” Gene Rosen told salon.com. “I’m getting hang-up calls, I’m getting some calls, I’m getting emails with, not direct threats, but accusations that I’m lying, that I’m a crisis actor, ‘How much am I being paid?’”

Rosen, a 69-year-old retired psychologist who lives near Sandy Hook Elementary School where the shootings took place, says his inbox is filled with emails like this one:

How are all those little students doing? You know, the ones that showed up at your house after the ‘shooting’. What is the going rate for getting involved in a gov’t sponsored hoax anyway?

“The quantity of the material is overwhelming,” Rosen said, adding that he’s sought the advice of a retired state police officer and plans to alert the FBI.

On the morning of Dec. 14, Rosen had just finished feeding his cats when he saw six small children “sitting in a neat semicircle” at the end of his driveway. According to the Associated Press:

A school bus driver was standing over them, telling them things would be all right. It was about 9:30 a.m., and the children, he discovered, had just run from the school to escape a gunman.

“We can’t go back to school,” one little boy told Rosen. “Our teacher is dead.”

Adam Lanza, the 20-year-old gunman, had shot his way into the school and opened fire, killing 20 children and six adults.

Rosen took the four girls and two boys—students of slain teacher Victoria Soto—into his home, gave them toys and comforted them while he tried to reach their parents. He spent the days following the massacre telling his story to the swarming media that invaded the small Connecticut town in the wake of the shootings.

“I wanted to speak about the bravery of the children,” Rosen told Salon. “I guess I kind of opened myself up to this.”

No significant event can go unremarked upon without having a conspiracy theory being born online minutes after said event occurs.

There is a special place in hell for people who propagate these kinds of conspiracies. They’re making life for Gene Rosen, a genuine hero who helped get kids to safety, a living hell.

Kudos to Rosen, and a hale and hearty [deleted] to the conspiracy mongers.

At some point, all of this bullshit has to hit a boiling point. There’s just no way all of this mass manufactured hysteria doesn’t lead to some sort of plot along the lines of the Oklahoma City bombing. A plethora of ammunition and weapons are being purchased and hoarded, an economy which is still somewhat in a downswing, and every paranoid fear the right-wingers have seemingly coming true. Of course, it’s all perpetuated by that evil ni-CLANG in the Whitehouse.

Finally found a map of what Israel is will to “settle” for with Palestine.

So, from what I can tell, Israel keeps the best land, and the water associated with it, and in exchange Palestine gets worthless Desert. In addition, the Muslim and Christian Palestinians have trust Israel to preserve the mosques on the Temple Mount, and the Cathedral in Jerusalem.

We saw how well trusting another group with a site worked with Babri Mosque in India, and the Copts had a large chunk of their property given to the the Ethiopian Orthodox Church in punishment for being Egyptian.

I can see why Palestinians are ticked off. They are being shoved into the most desolate areas, being given virtually worthless land in exchange for the fertile land they are losing, and are being asked to trust Israel on the Temple Mount, even though the Price Tag attacks on Mosques and Churches get slaps on the wrist.

re: #75 ProBosniaLiberal

Well that is a loaded post but lets discuss it. Much of the land in Israel was worthless desert. Some of the settlement areas (not all) were developed by the Israelis and that is what transformed them from being worthless desert to being homes for settlers. Others were settled specifically because Jerusalem could not be defended without controlling them. You seem to imagine Israel annexing previous lush jungle and pushing everything else into the desert. That is not how it is or was.

However, the quantum of land that is to be annexed to Israel vs. annexed to Palestine is and should be debated, as should the relative quality of said land, as should water rights which is clearly critical and is likely to be a real stumbling block.

As for Israel preserving mosques and cathedrals, Israel has done a pretty good job over the years doing just that. In fact when it took Jerusalem in the war, it gave control over the temple mount to the Waqf. It was an act we would certainly not see from any islamic government for Jewish relics in the area as you will no doubt agree. In fact for years the Waqf has been intentionally destroying evidence of the Jewish history of the temple mount. Moreover, the fact that the Islamic and Christian sites were deliberately built on the ruins of the destroyed Jewish temple should not be lost on you.

Cultural traits have little or nothing to do with actual evolution, though.

I knew someone would say that. I think the same processes apply if those traits become a threat to survival. Civilization, and tribal life before it, depends on a certain level of cooperation and consensus. The conspira-liars are a serious threat to that, and they are symptomatic of a larger threat.
Compared to the long history of evolution, “culture” is a very new phenomenon. There is no reason to suppose that it, too, is not an aspect of evolution or affected by evolutionary principles. I would prefer to think of these traits as behaviors that are passed on by a process analogous to genetic inheritance, but not literally an example of it. It is a common observation, for example, that violent and aggressive parents have aggressive children. There are apparently some biological aspects to this but they are far less important than the behavioral ones.
In this society, sub-cultural affiliations often take the place of parents in fostering various behavioral traits. It may be speculative to say that these are subject to same evolutionary pressures as the purely biological, but I think the possibility is very strong that they are. In the broadest sense, evolution is about change in response to change.

re: #75 ProBosniaLiberal

Israel has been in control of the Old City since 1967 and has guaranteed access to the holy sites as security situations dictate. It’s meant that the Christian sites have had uninterrupted access (except when various Christian sects rioted against each other over control of different parts of the Holy Sepulcher). The Temple Mount has had access limited at different times. Jews/Israelis have been prohibited for fear of causing incitement against Muslims. Muslims of certain age groups - teens/under 30 - have been limited because they were usually behind the attacks against Jews praying at the Western Wall.

On the whole, religious freedom is far more certain with Israel under control than under the prior Jordanian rule, when no Jew was permitted in the Old City, synagogues were blown up, and the Jewish holy sites and cemeteries were desecrated.

What you’re also missing is that most of the West Bank and Israel itself is desert. Tel Aviv and the coastal strip has more water and access to resources, but the interior is a high desert environment. The Jordan River Valley has important resources - most importantly water access from the Jordan River and minerals at the Dead Sea.

The bolded part is the meaningful part of this. Now you’re talking about memes rather than genes. The term was coined by evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins.

Evolution has been abused to claim all sorts of things are ‘human nature’ and unchangeable. This article is a good read on the subject. It’s important to avoid the abuse of science in furtherance of a point of view.

Claiming “overwhelming military superiority,” the “Galactic Empire” from the Star Wars film series answered the White House’s decision not to begin construction of its own galactic fortress in a statement on the franchise’s official website on Tuesday.

“It is doubtless that such a technological terror in the hands of so primitive a world would be used to upset the peace and sanctity of the citizens of the Galactic Empire,” the statement quoted Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin as saying. “Such destructive power can only be wielded to protect and defend by so enlightened a leader as Emperor Palpatine.”

GOP Congressman Warns That Library Books About Muslim Culture Will Undermine Christianity

Craven Community College, a small school in New Bern, was recently awarded a small National Endowment for the Humanities grant. The money, enough for 25 books and a DVD, is intended to expand the library’s Muslim culture collection. Jones protested that the money was unfairly benefiting Muslims and harming Christians, as he explained in a local TV interview.

“I want to treat it fairly and I think too many times the Christian faith is not treated fairly,” Jones said. “If they want to have book about the Muslim’s faith, let’s have equal number of books about Judeo-Christian [faith].”

And the Whiskey Rebellion came about in part because Alexander Hamilton (as Sec of the Treasury under Washington) got the Federal debt and those of a number of colonies that were essentially not being paid back consolidated and then got an excise tax on whiskey passed as a way to start paying it off. Exactly. For something like an early education bill or something it can be appropriate. For something like gun control I think it’s unnecessarily emotional and detracts from the seriousness of the issue.

Even more sickening props

“Sir, if you are as happy in entering the White House as I shall feel on returning to Wheatland, you are a happy man indeed,”
Probably the only truly insightful quote by President Buchanan.

True, I wouldn’t want to deal with Congress for 1 day, much less 8 years. I’d be ready to throw the whole lot to anyone who might have a snowball’s chance in hell of catching it.

Emotions don’t detract from seriousness. Avoidance of emotions sometimes does.

“I want to treat it fairly and I think too many times the Christian faith is not treated fairly,” Jones said. “If they want to have book about the Muslim’s faith, let’s have equal number of books about Judeo-Christian [faith].”

If only there was such a book, translated into about 89 varieties of English, that was widely available. If only there was something like a Christian “bookstore”, which sold books and things by Christian authors.

The gun nuts lose if the debate is stripped of all emotional dimensions. All that would be left is the cold, hard, reality of gun death statistics, which would drive any rational actor to a sweeping combination of bans and control.

Yeah you’ve got to be a crazy sob if you want to be president the way I look at it especially now. I looked at Bush at the end of his time in office. He looked like a man who really wanted to get out.

Bush Sr’s line was my favorite. “I am going to get big into the Golf Business and the Grandchildren Business.”

Never heard the one. I just remembered the Buchanan quote from my presidents book. I’d rather be the Ambassador to some tropical island where we have solid relations with than be president. Low profile, low pressure, and the beach.

The Ottoman Empire ended up taking care of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre multiple times as a result of infighting among Christians. And Muslims have taken good care of the Dome of the Rock and Al-Aqsa. And you have yet to mention the Moroccan Quarter either.

And what about this?

Orthodox Jewish communities in Israel have come under scrutiny for the negative stereotyping and scapegoating of Christian minorities in the region, including violent acts against Christian missionaries and communities. A frequent complaint of Christian clergy in Israel is being spat at by Jews, often haredi yeshiva students.

And there was a poll in 2011 by an important Israeli Newspaper or TV station support rebuilding the temple.

Perhaps if the Muslims in Palestine weren’t worried about being pushed out, and being put into worthless wastelands behind separation barriers, unable to go town-to-town, they wouldn’t feel a need on the Temple Mount to excavate and wipe out Jewish Archaeological Evidence.

But right, according to you and others, the Palestinians are evil. So they don’t deserve just treatment, or even an admission that Israel has done wrong things in the past.

We should prosecute ectopic pregnancies for murder.

More than half of all pregnancies miscarry without human assistance. People who get born are fewer in total than those who fall by the wayside. Whom or what should be prosecuted for that?

re: #144 ProBosniaLiberal

I don’t like the automatic assumption that Israelis are good, and the Palestinians bad because I have Palestinian friends, and therefore a personal investment in their side. Not to mention the Pro-Israel group on campus one time decided to call the Campus Cops on MSA when my friend was President of MSA. I have not forgotten that.

So history means nothing to you and you feel the way you do for shallow and petty reasons. If that isn’t the case, you should come up with an argument that would persuade an adult.

The mothers, of course. If they’re wishing for an abortion, their bodies have a way of shutting that whole thing down.

Muslims take care of the Dome of the Rock and Al- Aqsa because they are Muslim shrines and Holy Places. Not sure what your point is. Ottoman empire is hardly relevant to Islamic governments of the day. Not much consistency between the Ottomans and Pan Islamic or Pan Arab nationalism.

Its true I haven’t mentioned the Moroccan quarter> And you haven’t mentioned the banning of Jews from Jerusalem (A city that since the late 1800s was majority Jewish) until 1967 and the wholesale theft and destruction of their property during that time.

” there was a poll in 2011 by an important Israeli Newspaper or TV station support rebuilding the temple.”

Oh there was a poll? Why didn’t you say so. I didn’t realize there was a poll. That changes everything. ///

“Perhaps if the Muslims in Palestine weren’t worried about being pushed out, and being put into worthless wastelands behind separation barriers, unable to go town-to-town, they wouldn’t feel a need on the Temple Mount to excavate and wipe out Jewish Archaeological Evidence.”

Except they were doing it for hundreds of years before the creation of Israel so that doesn’t hold much water.

“But right, according to you and others, the Palestinians are evil. So they don’t deserve just treatment, or even an admission that Israel has done wrong things in the past.”

I think you should perhaps shut the fuck up at this point. You are making an ass of yourself.

Please point to ANY and I mean ANY post of mine suggesting Palestinians are evil, undeserving of just treatment. Moreover, it might be a good exercise for you to review every post of mine in the past because you will find plenty that are critical of Israel and things it has done.

But better yet, just go away. You are an immature uninformed windbag uninterested in truth.

If it makes you feel better, Orthodox Jewish Communities are under scrutiny from other Jews for their behavior as well. The spitting on other Jews, the treatment of women on public buses. The reality is that the Haredi are almost as bad as Islamic religious zealots.

But what is the point you are trying to make?
