Ted Nugent at Gun Show: “I’ve Got Some Buddies” Ready to Start a Revolution

“We need to fix this as soon as possible”
Wingnuts • Views: 25,932

Speaking at the Shooting, Hunting, Outdoor Trade Show (SHOT) in Las Vegas (a major gun industry trade show), Ted Nugent launched into another vitriolic tirade against President Obama, calling him “an evil, dangerous man who hates America,” and coming very close to outright advocation of assassination and revolution. It seems like Ted won’t be happy until he provokes some gun-crazed paranoid wingnut into violence.

National Rifle Association board member and Washington Times columnist Ted Nugent alluded to the start of the American Revolution in an interview with guns.com during the Shooting, Hunting, Outdoor Trade Show, claiming that the Obama administration “is attempting to re-implement the tyranny of King George” and that “if you want another Concord Bridge, I got some buddies.”

NUGENT: I’m part of a very great experiment in self-government where we the people determine our own pursuit of happiness and our own individual freedom and liberty not to be confused with the Barack Obama gang who believes in we the sheeple and actually is attempting to re-implement the tyranny of King George that we escaped from in 1776. And if you want another Concord Bridge, I got some buddies.

Nugent’s mention of “Concord Bridge” is presumably a reference to the Battle of Concord, which was fought on the North Bridge. The battle, one of the early encounters of the Revolutionary War, forced the British to retreat.

Throughout his comments, Nugent directed vitriol towards President Obama, claiming that he is “an evil dangerous man who hates America and hates freedom” who “hangs out with” communists.

Self fulfilling and self aggrandizing statements from the Madman of Detroit.

Wishing for assassinations and revolution? Hoping that like-minded nuts stockpile weapons and then go nuts when the ATF cracks down on illegal purchases or thwarts a terror plot involving same as proof that still more revolutionary fervor is needed.

I think standing in front of those amps turned to 11ty have liquefied his brain to mush.

No, Ted, you are part of a bigger experiment that has been going on for over 200 years and has involved hundreds of millions of people.

It involves collective decision-making in the form of elections, which, although sometimes flawed, have been generally free and fair.

It involves a system based on separation of powers, which, although also flawed, has so far been able to maintain a functioning and even prospering democracy for over 200 years.

It involves a syetem by which voters freely and fairly elect representatives and an executive whose job it is to provide for the common good, levy taxes to maintain the fucntioning of the government, and to nominate and confirm members of a Supreme Court to decide on whether the laws passed by elected officials and confirmed by the executive are legal and constitutional.

You are living in a fairytale world of Sovereign Citizens who believe they have the right to decide for themselves which laws to obey and which to ignore.

THAT IS NOT AMERICA

Ignoring Ted Nugent and his gibbering idiocy for a moment, I love how these gun nuts think that because they have an arsenal of AR-15s and some fatigues that they think they can go up against the US military, or that they would have a comparable level of firepower.

These morons are talking about fighting against the same military that spends more money than the next 17 countires combined. Do they honestly think they’ve got a chance?

I do. But the difference is it was the Dixie Chicks and they actually were relevant in the industry and were being played on many radio stations. A boycott of their music was noteworth. What would going apeshit about this do. Its not like any radio stations actually play his music anymore. I would venture to say that Ted Nugent fans today are more likely to be fans of his gun policy than his music. I would bet on it actually.

Granted, I’m sure there’s folks in the military who would turn traitor under certain circumstances, but for these yahoos it’s not about fighting the U.S. Military. They think Obama’s black hordes (Obama’s Waffen SS, if you will) are coming to steal their guns, and they’re going to fend them off (translation: they want a reason to shoot black people).

Mat Staver Accuses Obama of ‘Blasphemy’ and Hopes for Impeachment

“To swear on Abraham Lincoln’s Bible during the inaugural address is just really blasphemy to do that,” Staver said, “Lincoln stood for principles completely different than this President stood for.”

Staver continued his anti-gay rant by maintaining that Obama is “the most immoral president that we’ve ever had in history” who is “pushing an immorality that is stunning.” He called Obama a “dictatorial president” who “does not like America” or the Constitution and blamed his “[putting] in-your face amoral, immoral and anti-American rhetoric and policies” for a spike in gun sales.

Ken Cuccinelli: I’m Fighting The Contraception Mandate Just Like Martin Luther King, Jr.

On Monday, MLK Day, Cuccinelli again made the comparison between his fight against the federal requirement that birth control be offered with no copay by insurance plans to King’s fight for equal rights for African Americans. Cuccinelli earned some headlines earlier this month when he told an Iowa show that opponents of the mandate need to be prepared to “go to jail” in protest of the law. (He later tried to walk that back a bit.)

Cuccinelli was asked Monday about the controversy on The John Fredericks Show, a conservative talk show in Virginia. He was shocked Democrats would raise the issue, casting the battle as a struggle for rights rather than an attack on contraception.

“Whenever I talk about religious liberty, you know they turn it around. All they talk about -they don’t talk about denying religious liberty. They talk about contraception. And I’m not talking about contraception. Government doesn’t have a role in contraception,” Cuccinelli told the radio show. “Government does have a role in protecting your civil rights especially today on MLK Day. The man who really came up with the American non-violent protest theory of civil disobedience. It’s pretty egregious that they can’t get any higher than contraception when we’re talking about protecting people’s religious liberty.”

If you don’t believe in contraception, then don’t fucking use it. Stop interfering with the rights of people who actually do want to use it.

I think it’s becoming pretty much inevitable. Bolling was totally put off by yesterday’s legislative stunt. McConnell says he disagrees with it, that it’s “not how to do business,” but that’s mostly because he wants to get stuff done this year. It’s been noted that, despite supposedly disagreeing with it, he’s not said he’ll veto it if it comes to his desk.

Virginia GOP Pulls ‘Dirty Trick’ On Inauguration Day

The state Senate is split 20-20 between Republicans and Democrats. On Monday, while state Sen. Henry Marsh (D) — a 79-year-old civil rights veteran — was reportedly in Washington to attend President Obama’s second inaugural, GOP senators forced through a mid-term redistricting plan that Democrats say will make it easier for Republicans to gain a majority.

Oh, yeah, and then they did this… on MLK day:

“On motion of Senator Stosch, the Senate adjourned in memory or [sic] General Thomas J. ‘Stonewall’ Jackson at 4:10 p.m. to convene Tuesday, January 22, 2013,” read the official minutes of the legislative day.

Tea Party Congressman: Citizens Should Have Same Weapons As The Military

YOHO: On guns, [my constituents] were saying that the sentiment, when you read the Second Amendment, is that the militia had the same equipment as the military to protect them against the tyrannical government. I think it’s more important today than ever, that we uphold our second amendment.

A well regulated militia already has access to them. It’s called the National Guard. You want to use them? Go ahead and sign up.

Ex-Walker aide Timothy Russell sentenced to 2 years in prison for veterans theft

Timothy D. Russell, a former aide to Gov. Scott Walker, was sentenced Tuesday to two years in prison and five years probation for stealing more than $21,000 from a veterans organization that Walker named him to lead.

Milwaukee Circuit Judge David Hansher imposed the sentence, saying he found insincere Russell’s apology and acceptance of responsibility for stealing from a nonprofit chosen to administer Walker’s annual Operation Freedom veterans picnic at the zoo.

“There is also no true regret, remorse or repentance,” Hansher told Russell. “I find that you don’t even have any shame.”

Russell, 49, served as Walker’s deputy chief of staff, housing director and in other administrative posts while Walker was Milwaukee County executive. Prosecutors say he did political work while on county time, although he wasn’t formally charged with that.

Champion the Vote organizer creates new project, “Churches Impacting Culture,” to make God the central authority in American life

Leading up to the 2012 election, a project called “Champion the Vote” urged Christians to register voters who would vote the “Biblical worldview.” Champion the Vote was created by a group called “United in Purpose” and had numerous right wing evangelical partners, such as Kenneth Copeland, who told his audience before the election that “If you’re a Christian and you don’t vote, then you are out of line with the Word of God. You’re out of line in your place as a believer in the Body of Christ because the United States of America is the only nation in history that was ever organized by people for a specific purpose to praise and worship God.”

Bill Dallas, a spokesman for Champion the Vote and United in Purpose, has released a video promoting United in Purpose’s new project, “Churches Impacting Culture.” As with the other projects, Churches Impacting Culture seeks to mobilize Christians opposed to abortion rights and marriage equality, and advocates a vision to make the Judeo-Christian God the “central authority in American life.”

So we get to vote for God now? Good, I support Crom.

The 8 Greatest Wars Ever Fought by Fox News

America hasn’t declared war for over 70 years because, politically speaking, it’s actually easier to send a quarter million troops into a country than it is to declare war against it. Which is why it’s strange that someone at Fox News declares a new war every 11 seconds. They use that word so desperately and often that if you taught a child that “war” meant “HELP!” he would produce perfect Fox News copy every time you dropped him in a well. Here are some of the greatest military campaigns ever fought by this fair and balanced army.

Here’s the full text of the article (about which I linked yesterday) on the DNA of the ~40k year old human from China:

DNA analysis of an early modern human from Tianyuan Cave, China

The person’s mtDNA haplogroup is assigned to the “B” supergroup, the same one as many East Asians and native North Americans.

BTW, according to Ken Ham and the literalists, the eastern Europeans and rest of the Asians are supposed to be descended from the same person as these groups above… but clearly the mtDNA shows they are not. Not that Ken Ham will change his mind or anything.

From the PNAS paper summary:

The DNA hybridization capture strategy described here allows sequencing of large sections (>>1 Mbp) of the nuclear genome from mammalian samples even in the presence of a large excess of microbial DNA, a situation typical of almost all ancient samples outside permafrost regions. This opens the possibility of generating DNA sequences from previously inaccessible ancient samples. We use this capture strategy to analyze an early modern human, the Tianyuan individual, who contains less than 0.03% endogenous DNA.

The results show that early modern humans present in the Beijing area 40,000 y ago were related to the ancestors of many present-day Asians as well as Native Americans. However, they had already diverged from the ancestors of present-day Europeans.

That Europeans and East Asians had diverged by 40,000 y ago is consistent with dates for the first archaeological appearance of modern humans in Europe and also with the upper end of an estimate [23 ka BP (95% CI: 17–43 ka BP)] for the divergence of East Asian and European populations from nuclear DNA variation in present-day populations (34). The results also show that the Tianyuan individual did not carry any larger proportion of Neandertal or Denisovan DNA sequences in its genome than present-day people in the region. More analyses of additional early modern humans across Eurasia will further refine our understanding of when and how modern humans spread across Eurasia.

No, probably not.

First, we have to deal with the lumper/splitter issue in biology. It is no longer clear to me that the idea of “Homo sapiens ssp. sapiens” makes sense, or to split up any of the post-H. heidelbergensis species the way we do.

40,000 years ago we know the following exist from their remnants:
(1) anatomically modern humans in West, North, and East Africa, as well as Eurasia and parts of Oceania.
(2) culturally modern humans, apparently from their tools.
(3) “Neanderthals” remaining in a few spots.
(4) “Denisovans” in south Siberia, a close relative to the Neanderthals.
(5) H. florensiensis, some sort of small statured hominin on at least one island in Oceania.

As is the case with all of archeology and paleontology, our discoveries can never be thought of as comprehensive of what existed at the time.

The question is whether “H. sapiens sapiens” is too artificial of a division. It’s sort of analogous to what has happened in plant taxonomy, where many families of Orchids have been so finely divided that the difference between “species” is simply a small differences in morphology.

It’s not clear to me what the divisions are now, with all we know, of all those humans that from cranial measurements appear to be “modern”.

There are skulls/fragments from both west Africa and East Africa of “modern” humans. The most famous is the “Omo” remains:

re: #188 engineer cat

ok, but what do you call the ancestors that the Omo remains evolved from and when did they die out?

Well, that is the challenge of modern physical anthropology.

In the past few decades the term H. heidelbergensis has been used as a catch all species name for the ancestor of the later humans. This older species remains are found in Europe and Africa, have brain sizes intermediate between the later species and the earlier H. erectus .

One reason why complete DNA testing of different groups in southern Africa is enlightening is because they point to other ancient groups besides Neanderthals/Denisovans with which modern humans interbred.

The truth might be this: there always was quite a “bushy” family tree, with many admixtures over the past 5 or 6 million years.

One (of several) reasons why the genetic “Adam” and genetic “Eve” stories confuses people is because they don’t understand that finding a most common recent ancestor (whether on the purely paternal or maternal lines) doesn’t say much about the rest of the ancestry contemporaneous with those individuals, or their own ancestry.

This brings us to a view which is quite, quite different than that of the creationists. Not only were there never only just 2 humans alive at one point, there was never a time when only one type of human was alive, until very recently.

Another Corbett scam goes down in flames:

Pa. charter school ratings plummet under new calculations

The new system, which Tomalis initiated without federal approval and at the behest of a charter school lobbying group, made it easier for charter schools to reach federal standards than traditional public schools. It classified charters, no matter their size, as school districts, which are measured on a broader scale than individual schools.

The U.S. Department of Education, however, shot down that change in November. It ordered Pennsylvania to recalculate the charters’ AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress) status on the school level and publicize the results by January. So under the federal order, charters must have the school-level and district-level grades.

Under Tomalis’ system, 77 charter schools — or 49 percent — made AYP when they were measured as school districts.

But when tabulated as individual schools, only 43 — or 28 percent — made AYP, according to a Morning Call analysis of state data.

By comparison, 49 percent of the state’s public schools made AYP and about 61 percent of the state’s 499 school districts that administered the PSSAs did, too.

Getting back to one of my long running topics - the historicity of religious figures:

Pulpit Fiction

A TOP priest has been forced to quit a Bible-teaching job after writing a book claiming Jesus did not exist.
Fr Tom Brodie makes the claim in Beyond the Quest for the Historical Jesus.

The publication sparked fury in his order and he was removed from his post at the Dominican Biblical Institute in Limerick, which he helped set up.

According to documents seen by the Irish Sun, the veteran scholar was also banned from any lecturing, teaching or writing while a probe is under way.

It is understood Fr Brodie has questioned the existence of Jesus since the Seventies but had until now been unable to make his views public.

He spent 12 years working on the project — the subject of which came as a shock to his superiors when published in October.

In the book, Fr Brodie insists many of Jesus’s acts were a rip-off of the Hebrew Bible or, in some cases, of earlier texts.

[…]

Brodie’s book is well known: Beyond the Quest for the Historical Jesus: Memoir of a Discovery , at least among those who concern themselves with the “Historical Jesus” debates.

Anyway, the Catholic Church doesn’t like it when one of their priests start calling into question certain “truths”.

They were humble farmers who grew corn and dwelt in subterranean pit houses. But the people who lived 1200 years ago in a Utah village known as Site 13, near Canyonlands National Park in Utah, seem to have had at least one indulgence: chocolate. Researchers report that half a dozen bowls excavated from the area contain traces of chocolate, the earliest known in North America. The finding implies that by the end of the 8th century C.E., cacao beans, which grow only in the tropics, were being imported to Utah from orchards thousands of kilometers away.

Well, here’s a bit of good news :

Doctor Who 50th anniversary episode set to feature all eleven Time Lords

I have never been able to get a foothold on Dr Who, much to my dismay. My dad (not particularly a sci-fi aficionado, apart from the original Twilight Zone) used to watch this version:

Image: Fourth_Doctor.jpg

somewhat faithfully. It came on Channel 13 (KERA-TV, incidentally the first American TV station to broadcast Monty Python) late at night. The Dr Who theme music used to truly scare me when I was a wee lad. It sounded so futuristic, alien, and sinister.

I recently tried to watch some more recent incarnations on Netflix, and it seemed to be a lot more comedy-oriented than I expected.

Someone should put together a beginner’s guide to Dr. Who.

or not.

I’m sure there are many websites dedicated for novices.

I first watched Dr. Who when Pertwee played the part, and my local PBS station rebroadcast the BBC series.

In college a friend of mine liked it when the fourth Doctor was there… but I didn’t really pick up interest until the the renewed series in 2005.

Everyone ignores the American movie version with the one-off Doctor.

Short synopsis on my Theory of Doctor Who: The BBC, in searching for children’s show in the 1960’s stumbled upon the idea of a fatherly figure as a space traveler, incorporating the zany British humor of the time. Over the years the series has transformed into a generalized post-Christian exercise in existentialism, with “The Doctor” being a new Christ-figure in a post-Christian UK.

Homeschooled teen who killed family with AR-15 plotted Walmart mass shooting

Houston said that Griego had waited for his mother to fall asleep before gaining access to her unlocked bedroom closet to obtain an AR-15, a .22 rifle and two 12-gauge shotguns. Some of the weapons had been purchased by the father through private sales, the investigation found.

“The teen told authorities after killing his family he reloaded his weapons so that he could ‘drive to populated area to murder more people,’” KRQE reported. “He expressed a desire to shoot people at random and eventually be killed while exchanging gunfire with law enforcement.”

Four-year-old girl dies after being shot in the head by another child

Trinity Ross, 4, was shot on January 10 in her Kansas City home while her stepmother was babysitting three other children. All of the children were under six-years-old.

The stepmother had left the room, heard a gun shot, and then found Trinity laying injured on the floor, according to police.

The woman said one of the children found a loaded revolver in a jacket hanging a chair. The jacket was left by one of the children’s father.

The story didn’t get into detail, but the father who left the loaded gun there should be facing homicide charges or at the very least reckless endangerment. If the local authorities just say aw shucks, it was an accident, that would be a disgrace.

re: #285 JeffFX

Sadly, no. The movie is part of official Doctor Who lore, though the half-human part is considered to be untrue.

You’re looking for rigorous consistency in Doctor Who? William Hartnell (the First Doctor) was not, as far as I can recall, designated a Time Lord until the programme had been going for a while, and his first companion was his granddaughter. (An Unearthly Child and the first appearance of the Daleks are both available on DVD.)

re: #297 makeitstop

Eccleston was my first Time Lord - I was way late to the party. My wife’s been watching pretty much since the beginning and mocks me for being a Who Noob.

My first Doctor was Patrick Troughton (the Second Doctor) though I did also see Hartnell in repeats. I have seen episodes which literally no longer exist anywhere. The BBC criminally erased or destroyed vast amounts of its output from the 1950s and 1960s, variously supposedly because archive space was limited, or the videotape they used at the time was too horribly expensive not to re-use, and who would ever want to watch a television program a second time? Auntie Beeb’s fiscal restraint went beyond cheap sets.

Some stories — prior to the 2005 revival, a single plot would typically span four half-hour episodes — have been only partially reconstituted for DVD release, with mixes of colour and black-and-white footage, and sometimes passages with only audio. Episodes thought to be lost have turned up from time to time around the world, but there are still many gaps in the early canon.

Who remembers the Yeti?

330 Cap'n Magic  Tue, Jan 22, 2013 7:57:03pm

Well, if Uncle Ted is so adamant about his rights, then as a consequence, we should also proffer a zero tolerance in regards to improper gun usage:

(1) An accidental gun discharge that results in another’s injury is punishable by a minimum 10 years sentence with a lifetime firearms ban. An accidental gun discharge which causes injury to the holder of the firearm will result in 100% of all medical charges being directly billed to the affected party with no private or public insurance co-pays.

(2) The discharge of a gun by a perpretrator in the commission of a felony is an automatic life sentence.

(3) Use of a firearm while intoxicated is an automatic 20 year prison sentence plus a lifetime firearms ban.

Here’s the cognitive dissonance of the gun worshipers, the NRA’ers and the followers of Zardoz: They want the absolute 2nd Amendment right, but with no consequences when their behavior goes outside what society accepts. If the Second Amendment is absolute, then the punishment for committing crimes using your protected Second Amendment rights is also absolute.

And yes, these would be Federal Penalties, in order to prevent some state from mis-interpreting the true meaning of the rights AND obligations of the 2nd Amendment.

331 Godisdeadandburied  Tue, Jan 22, 2013 11:29:34pm

Why don’t conservatives who call for violence and mass murder go to prison? I am really curious.
