Sen. Ron Johnson: Hillary Planned to Get “Emotional”

What right wing sexism?
Politics • Views: 25,032

Following his heated exchanges with Hillary Clinton earlier today, Republican Sen. Ron Johnson is now accusing Clinton of planning an “emotional” response to “get out of the questions.”

Isn’t it great that Republicans are so amazingly predictable? I mean, it’s such a stereotype that one of these old white guys would immediately go out and brag that he put the uppity emotional woman in her place. You’d think they would learn at some point that it makes them look like total cavemen, but they do it every single time, like clockwork.

I thought Obama’s lack of emotion was the cause of the outraeg in the first place? Isn’t Hillary supposed to get emotional about the deaths of people in her organization.

GOP, please pick a derp and stick to it.

43 Kragar  Wed, Jan 23, 2013 1:23:44pm

Man, I never realized what a badass Charles Durning was.

WWII soldier, actor Charles Durning to be interred at Arlington

Known as Chuck by friends, Durning was drafted and found himself in the Army in one of the first waves to land on the beach at Normandy on June 6, 1944, D-Day. Just nine days later he earned his first Purple Heart when he was seriously wounded by a German mine at Les Mare des Mares.

Following a six-month recovery in England, he was rushed to the front lines to fight against the German Ardennes offensive. During the Battle of the Bulge, Durning suffered wounds, this time in hand-to-hand bayonet combat for which he would later receive a second Purple Heart.

Still able to fight, Durning would earn his third Purple Heart when he moved into Germany in March with the 398th Infantry Regiment, where he was severely wounded in the chest in March 1945.

Durning was then evacuated to the U.S. to spend the remainder of his time in the Army recovering until he was discharged in January 1946 as a private first class.

In addition to the Purple Hearts, Durning was awarded the Silver and Bronze Stars for valor and the World War II Victory Medal. In 2008 the French consul presented him with the National Order of the Legion of Honor.

Following the war, Durning boxed professionally while enrolled in acting classes on the G.I. Bill and performing on the New York stage. But it wasn’t until he was 40 that he entered the film world where in 1962 he played the role of a G.I. in the “Password is Courage.”

Key Anti-Gay Republican: GOP Has Lost The Marriage Equality Fight

Bauer, a former president of the Family Research Council who remains influential in certain evaneglical and Republican circles, ran a super PAC during the 2012 election that attacked President Obama on his support for marriage equality. While Bauer suggested after the election that then-presidential candidate Mitt Romney would have won over critical minority voters by attacking LGBT rights, he’s now admitting that he was mistaken:

The coalition in favor of normal marriage has been made up of political conservatives and American minority groups, including Hispanics and blacks. But the president’s so-called ‘evolution’ on this issue has resulted in what appears to be a major shift among blacks and Hispanics toward favoring same-sex marriage.

Bauer added that, despite the collapse of his so-called “coalition in favor of normal marriage,” the GOP would not change its position on marriage equality, saying “virtually all the candidates that competed for the GOP nomination this cycle supported traditional marriage. The party platform unambiguously did, also. I think that will be the case again in 2016.” He also suggested that the GOP could do very little to shift public opinion, admitting that “I don’t think we can expect the Republican Party to save us.”

“Yeah, we were wrong, but if we admit we’re wrong, we’ll lose our base, so we’ll keep fighting tooth and nail no matter how wrong we are.”

Your GOP ladies and gentleman

77 Charles Johnson  Wed, Jan 23, 2013 1:34:03pm

I see another reason for Twitter’s new embedded tweet design - the whole thing is now inside an IFRAME, so the CSS can’t be messed with. Previously, they were using an ordinary DIV tag that got inserted into the page’s HTML via Javascript, and you could change the style via CSS, as with any other DIV. Now the only thing you can change is the size of the IFRAME container.

They’re going for a consistent look across all sites, obviously.

This is very simple to me. Questions around the lack of security at the location are reasonable questions to ask and may help prevent such future occurrences by creating safety protocols that are more closely followed by those in the field. That is a proper use of resources and was already completed with a host or recommendations that the Sec of State has agreed should be implemented. Could they have done better? Yes. Were they negligent? I have not seen anything that suggests they were negligent and every attempt to prove they were has been based on conjecture and refuted by facts.
Questions about who knew what, when, and how they communicated that information are entirely political and serve no purpose other than an attempt to discredit the white house. They are an enormous waste of time and resources and are without any useful purpose. There was no scandal, there is no smoking gun. There is no treason. The bill for this circus should be paid by the GOP.

Film exposes link between U.S. evangelicals and violent antigay Ugandan movement

Money raised by evangelical Christians in the United States is fueling a violent antigay movement in Uganda, according to the “Gospel of Intolerance” by filmmaker Roger Ross Williams.

“American evangelicals are sending millions of dollars in donations to Africa to spread their message by funding Ugandan pastors and sponsoring missionaries, many of who do good work feeding the hungry and providing shelter to orphans,” Rev. Kapya Kaoma explained in the mini-documentary, which was published online Tuesday by the New York Times. “But some of that money just goes to feed a dangerous ideology that teaches that gays, lesbians, transgender, and bisexual people do not have a place in God’s kingdom and are a threat to society.”

CSPAN Callers deride no-nothing Senators and Congressmen

Following the Senate hearing, C-SPAN took a call from women named Sarah from Sterling, Virginia on the Democrats line.

“As a former member of the foreign service, I thought that Sen. Rand Paul and Sen. John McCain made complete asses of themselves, if I can use that word,” Sarah volunteered. “They have no idea with regard to the status of forces agreement and to what the role of the U.S. Marine Corps is in embassies.”

Sarah went on to explain that she had been stationed in a Middle East country where American staff had only been provided one security guard by the host country.

“The State Department has no control over that unless there is a status of forces agreement that allows Marine security guards to step out of their comfort zone,” she continued.

“And Rand Paul has no idea, has no clue of what happens at an American embassy. I suggest that he change committees and go over to the Agriculture Committee, that’s where you can dish dirt. And that’s exactly what he did. He was a disgrace and he should not be on that committee.”

But it wasn’t only Democrats who were ripping into McCain and Paul. Sarah’s call was followed by a call from Natasha in Lansing, Michigan on the Republican line.

“As a Republican, I am thoroughly embarrassed by the way they acted,” Natasha said. “And I guess it would be very appropriate to say, there’s no fool like an old fool, unless he happens to be a young fool. This woman who has worked so hard for our country and has donated, well, practically her health had — they had no business in talking that way to her.”

“For them to get up and grandstand, no wonder our Republican Party is going down the tubes when we have two people that act as foolish and ignorantly as these two did,” she added.

To: AnAmericanAbroad
I’ve recently read some unconfirmed reports that Obozo is firing Generals who would not agree to turning the machines of war against U.S. citizens. Perhaps this is Panetta’s way to counter Obozo? Women in combat roles would likely be less inclined to shoot at American citizens if that order is given.

Adventures in privatization.

Lawsuit: Kabul Embassy Guards Told to Lie About Long Hours

The company responsible for providing security at the U.S. embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan, has at times directed guards to underreport the number of hours they worked to avoid revealing that they have been on the job up to 18 hours per day, according to a federal lawsuit filed this week on behalf people who have served on the guard force.

In addition, supervisors at the company, Aegis Defense Services, “regularly edited employees’ timesheets so that they did not reveal any work beyond the Regular Schedule,” the lawsuit says.

Aegis employees in Kabul are supposed to work 72 hours per week but have regularly exceeded that, on many occasions working 14- to 18-hour days for six or seven days per week, the lawsuit says.

While the extra hours allowed Aegis to meet its staffing obligations to the State Department, the employees were not paid for that time, the suit alleges.

Anti-Choice Activist Wants State to Prosecute Women Who Have Abortions

Steve Deace yesterday invited Michael Peroutka, the right-wing activist and 2004 third party candidate for president, onto his radio show for a weekly special with him about the Constitution. Marking the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, Peroutka said that the anti-choice movement should begin to use different and more extreme tactics.

After arguing that Roe doesn’t have any impact on the law because it violates the Bible and merely affected “Jane Roe” alone, he said that local officials should begin prosecuting women for murder if they have an abortion.

If a woman sniper kills a Jihadist, does he still get his 72 virgins?

So, I just watched the clip,

That was emotional? THAT is what they are calling an emotional outburst?

Her voice broke, no tears.

Seems rather blown out of proportion.

SHE TALKED BACK TO A REPUBLICAN! SHE’S AN EMOTIONAL, HYSTERICAL WOMAN!

Also, she’s lying about BENGHAZI! Eleventy!

Because deadly weapons are really just fashion accessories that inform the world you’re not ready to grow up quite yet.

The emotion is frustrated rage. It always happens when politesse requires that you not choke the living shit out of some doof who is begging for it.

Deadpan as a nuked cupboard: that doesn’t even make any sense.

I’m thinking WomenInCombat is the next step in guncontrol for our military. #tgdn #tcot #nra

I’m not thinking at all.

Fixed.

Remember that “onerous regulations” bugabear that the GOP keeps bringing up?

“…the responsibility for ensuring the safety of our food doesn’t fall to retailers and restaurants alone. The oversight authority belongs to the FDA, and the task is massive. In 2011, Americans consumed 4.7 billion pounds of seafood, 91 percent of which was imported. And yet the FDA only inspects a tiny amount of this giant haul: 2 percent at most. (The equivalent agency in Canada inspects 15 percent of imported seafood; in the European Union the figure is 50 percent.)

That’s worrisome because imported seafood has a spotty track record. According to a recent study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 44 percent of the 39 foodborne-illness outbreaks caused by imports from 2005 to 2010 involved seafood—more than any other type of food.”

Yeah, the Senator seemed to be playing the HS game of “he said, she said” and Hillary just called him on it.

Quick poking around turns up a 1.9 percent rate on earnings outside the US, combined with only 13.9 percent of its profits being from the US. Double joke.

Not quite the zero taxes paid that can often be accomplished, but close enough to it.

More keys you may not know about:

Control-Option-S (or Alt-S) activates the search field.
Control-Option-N (or Alt-N) activates the News search field.
Control-Option-R (or (Alt-R) goes to the referrer page.
Control-Y brings up the LGF Connect Twitter posting form.

Charles, you might make a Page on those some time-Pro tips for LGF, and (maybe for the noobs) some hints on what sites not to link.

If attacks on U.S. Embassies are supposed to connote a “weakness” in the Commander in Chief, then GWBush comes out as the “weakest” of Presidents because there were 12 terror attacks on U.S. diplomatic facilities abroad during GWBush’s administration, more than any President in our history, and they include:

June 14, 2002, U.S. consulate in Karachi, Pakistan. Suicide bomber kills 12 and injures 51.
February 20, 2003, international diplomatic compound in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia?Truck bomb kills 17.
February 28, 2003, U.S. consulate in Karachi, Pakistan?Gunmen on motorcycles killed two consulate guards.
July 30, 2004, U.S. embassy in Taskkent, Uzbekistan?Suicide bomber kills two.
December 6, 2004, U.S. consulate in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia?Militants stormed and occupied perimeter wall. 5 killed, 10 wounded.
March 2, 2006, U.S. consulate in Karachi, Pakistan?Suicide car bomber killed four, including a U.S. diplomat directly targeted by the assailants.
September 12, 2006, U.S. embassy in Damascus, Syria?Gunmen attacked embassy with grenades, automatic weapons, and a car bomb (though second truck bomb failed to detonate). One killed and 13 wounded.
January 12, 2007, U.S. embassy in Athens, Greece?A rocket-propelled grenade was fired at the embassy building. No one was injured.
July 9, 2008, U.S. consulate in Istanbul, Turkey?Armed men attacked consulate with pistols and shotguns. Three policemen killed.
March 18, 2008, U.S. embassy in Sana’a, Yemen?Mortar attack misses embassy, hits nearby girls’ school instead.
September 17, 2008, U.S. embassy in Sana’a, Yemen?Militants dressed as policemen attacked the embassy with RPGs, rifles, grenades and car bombs. Six Yemeni soldiers and seven civilians were killed. Sixteen more were injured. (Daily Kos, 9-12-12)

I don’t recall Republicans convening a hearing on any of THOSE embassy attacks.

There were also 7 attacks on U.S. diplomatic facilities during the Reagan era.

The embassy breach in Libya was only the second attack on U.S. diplomatic facilities during President Obama’s first term. Even after OBL’s death, American diplomatic facilities did not come under fire.
