On the one hand this is just a tu quoque attack by the Daily Caller on Media Matters and David Brock. On the other, the level of hypocrisy on display is pretty amazing.
According to a knowledgeable source, multiple firearms used to protect the Media Matters founder were purchased with Brock’s blessing — and apparently with the group’s money.
…
TheDC has learned that by that time, Brock had armed his assistant — who had no permit to carry a concealed firearm — with a Glock handgun.
…
For carrying a fully-loaded Glock in Washington without a permit, Price-Morris “could be looking at some substantial prison time because if we use the low-end felony sentence of five years, you could get five years for the non-registration, five for the carrying, and then [more for] the second offenses of the magazine being over 10 rounds and then the cartridges,” said Halbrook.
…
Many of Brock’s senior employees claim they were caught completely by surprise when in late 2010, staffers became aware of Price-Morris’ gun after he revealed his concealed weapon to a female employee.
One former senior employee told TheDC the Media Matters staff was “shocked” to learn of the gun. Another said the in-house reaction was “like, ‘Holy shit!’ It was so beyond what was acceptable.”
…
As one source put it, Brock was “terrified” that the gun story would get out.
…
By the beginning of April 2011, Media Matters was scrambling to retrieve the weapons from Price-Morris. An email exchange obtained by TheDC shows that the group clearly had a stake in the weapons.

They spend a fortune out-of-pocket for 40 hours a week CNA care, meds, hospital bed, etc. She stays in their home. They take care of her evenings and weekends.
It’s bankrupting them and her. Ruining their marriage.

Briefly, the gun nuts need to heavily invest in stranger rape/mob attack scenarios to avoid the simple fact that domestic violence is much more of a threat to women than the stranger scenarios put forth by the NRA et al.
If a household is armed, then that domestic violence is rather likely to take the form of assault with a deadly weapon.

Deportations of illegal immigrants in 2012 reach new US record
The Obama administration deported at least 400,000 illegal immigrants in fiscal year 2012, a new record. It emphasizes deporting ‘criminal aliens’ to protect public safety, but the high figure serves to remind Latinos of the president’s unfilled pledge to reform immigration policy.

Illegal Immigrant Deportations by the Numbers
For all the grief President Obama has taken over his immigration policy—Republicans say he’s a wimp, Democrats say he’s not compassionate enough—one fact has emerged during his term so far. He’s deported about 18 percent more illegal immigrants than former President George W. Bush did in his last two years in office. And he’s on par to have given the boot to nearly 1.5 million immigrants by the time this term is done.
Regarding her department’s deportations, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano says “you get yanked from both sides” when it comes to immigration policy.

re: #161 Mentis Fugit
I read an interesting and possibly insightful (though equally possibly full of shit, who knows) commentary vaguely based in part around that Bushmaster ad.
Everything you need to know about how the system sees you is expressed in its purest way in ads. So, completely off topic, here’s an ad, relax, this has nothing to do with guns:
I had never seen this ad, because the ad was not for me. The ad targets men who need a gun to feel like a real man, the gun validates their masculinity— or so the ordinary, pseudo-feminist deconstruction would go. Except that’s not what the ad says. It says, quite clearly, that the highest validator of masculinity isn’t the gun, it is the card.
You’ve been trained to look at these things in terms of gender, forget it. The pathology of the generation is narcissism; the ad knows about, and works only on, a society eyeballs deep in narcissism, that requires its identity broadcast by branded objects but validated by other people. Because what this ad says, explicitly, is that owning the gun doesn’t make you a man; when you own the gun, some other omnipotent entity will declare you a man.
I’m not saying that gun owners need to show their guns off, I’m saying this ad assumes that. There was a time where merely possessing the fetishized object was enough to self-identify (“I’m awesome, I’m having sex with a blonde”; “just having my 9mm inside my jacket makes me feel bad ass”), but this is no longer sufficient, it is no longer powerful enough to penetrate your thick skull, you have to be able to show it to someone else, to watch their eyes light up in recognition for you to know you have convinced them of who you are.
Is it cosmetic? Note the logic has evolved from “you’ll feel better about yourself” to “other people will see you as more competent.”
Forget about the gun/masculinity interaction, it is a red herring; the problem is the cycle of wanting outsiders to tell you who you are…

Yeah, my teeth are in remarkably good health, aside from a cavity tucked in behind one of my crooked wisdom teeth. I’m paying an arm and a leg for the Mrs. Fish’s dental bills, though, so I don’t have time or money to get this one fixed. I’ll just have to live with it.

Haven’t had a soda since before Thanksgiving. High fructose corn syrup was killing me.
Regular Coke was one of the biggest reasons that I used to weigh 280lbs. Ditching that and candy-bars took me down to 225, which is about right for my height, and enabled me to do a lot of exercises I could not do before, which I hope has set me on a course for life-long fitness.
Having sugar in any form in your beverages is not a good idea. I’m still drinking Coke Zero, but I’m transitioning to tea to get away from the artificial sweeteners
