Zombie Night at the Shooting Range

Here’s a promo for “Zombie Night” at a shooting range in my state. Please tell me if “Rocky Zombie” looks familiar to you.

UPDATE at 2/4/13 4:12:50 pm (by Charles)

This appears to be the maker of the Barocky Zombie target: Rocky - Bleeding Zombie Targets - Zombie Industries Holiday Gift Guide

UPDATE at 2/4/13 5:50:57 pm (by Charles)

Here’s a video from Zombie Industries, showing them having a grand old time blowing chunks off one of these Obama effigies. Notice that this one has dark “skin.” Unreal.

A little surprised they didn’t deck him out in seekrit tattoos. Maybe it would have cost too much and/or distracted from the focus point.

The forums on one firearms-related blog took the manufacturers to task over the likeness of this “zombie” target. One thing that should be noted by their response is that originally, “Rocky” came from Chicago instead of Detroit, as the current description has.

[Link: www.calguns.net…]

Oddly enough, more than a few of the firearms/target shooting groups that I have been browsing don’t want to touch this one with a 10-foot-pole.

I’d venture a guess that most people looking at that target would see the likeness to Barocky Obama right away.

Google is getting very aggressive about their Adsense personalization these days. You’re probably seeing that because you just visited the zombie site. That site probably had some Google ad code on it, so Google could track that you visited it, and now you’ll see ads for it.

I watched a video at YouTube for Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds’ new album last week and ever since I’ve been seeing ads for that album from Google Adsense.

It shouldn’t matter whether the target looks like Bin Landen or the Rocky one that looks like Obama, as Eric Gorecki helpfully points out. We’re Americans, darn it!

People with guns should be allowed to shoot at any target they want! Even if that target just happens to resemble the first black President who many gun owners mistakenly believe wants to take their personal arsenals!

This is starting to become a broken record in Texas.

Judge: Texas school funding system is unconstitutional

AUSTIN (AP) — The system Texas uses to fund public schools violates the state’s constitution by not providing enough money to school districts and failing to distribute the money in a fair way, a judge ruled Monday in a landmark decision that could force the Legislature to overhaul the way it pays for education.

Shortly after listening to closing arguments, Judge John Dietz ruled the funding mechanism does not meet the constitutional requirement for a fair and efficient system that provides a general diffusion of knowledge.

The state is expected to appeal the ruling to the Texas Supreme Court. This was the sixth case of its kind since 1984. In 2005, Dietz found the previous funding system unconstitutional and directed the Legislature to devise a new one.
[…]
Texas does not have a state income tax, meaning it relies on local property taxes to fund its schools. But attorneys for the school districts said the bottom 15 percent of the state’s poorest districts tax average 8 cents more than the wealthiest 15 percent of districts but receive about $43,000 less per classroom.

Public schools in Texas are being run under a “reverse Robin Hood” system, where the bulk of funding comes from poorer districts, but the money gets funneled to the wealthiest districts.

Rick Perry urges Californians to relocate to Texas

In a new radio ad, the Republican governor urges California businesses to relocate to Texas to avoid high tax rates and regulations. The ad will air in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Sacramento, Inland Empire and San Diego.

“Building a business is tough, but I hear building a business in California is next to impossible,” Perry says in the ad. “This is Texas Gov. Rick Perry, and I have a message for California businesses: come check out Texas. There are plenty of reasons Texas has been named the best state for doing business for eight years running. Visit texaswideopenforbusiness.com, and see why our low taxes, sensible regulations and fair legal system are just the thing to get your business moving to Texas.”

Judge: Texas school funding system is unconstitutional

Cue the cries of partisanship, especially when you consider that Dietz is a Democrat:

[Link: www.traviscountydemocrats.org…]

I’ve said this many times, and I’ll say it again. The dirt in Alice, Texas, is not worth the same as dirt in Dallas, Texas. So when 60 percent of your school finance has to come from whatever your local dirt is worth, you can tax the hell out of that dirt, but they can’t raise the same amount of money that people in Dallas can.

That doesn’t fit our notion of what our government is about. How can the quality of your education depend on where you live? If you go to school in an impoverished area, you’re not going to get the same resources as if you lived in a nice area. I know of no other case that is as significant as how we fund and how we deal with school finance. It’s not so much the present as how it affects things 20 to 30 years out. How we’re treating this generation is how we’ll be treated in the future.

It’s part of Tea Party culture and mentality . RockyZombie is definitely an effigy of Obama . ” ‘spaycially made to get ur rocks off ” . This Obama hatred phenomena permeates their very being ,and is incorporated in their whole though process . Worked with a guy for a few years ,who at the mention of Obama , his whole demeanor changed and his face got visibly red . It got worse as time went on , to a point where any general conversation on different subjects would always gravitate back to obama . never seen anything like it .Since the man is a freind , I actually had to curtail general talk ans stick to technical lingo of the job .

Citizens United To Supreme Court: Landmark School Desegregation Case Was Wrong

“…On the same day that the Supreme Court handed down Brown v. Board of Education, however, the Court also held in Bolling that a shield against public school segregation is one of the liberties protected by the Fifth Amendment, which does apply to the federal government. Thus, the District of Columbia, which is a federal entity, could not have segregated public schools.

Citizens United is now claiming that Bolling was wrong, and that the Constitution does absolutely nothing to prevent the United States from engaging in discrimination of any kind. If the justices buy their argument — as they were all too willing to do in the case that bears Citizens United’s name — it would mean that Congress is free to set up its own Jim Crow laws.”

Full Metal Wingnut Texas Lt. Governor David Dewhurst:

My Open Letter to Piers Morgan

If I didn’t know better, I’d say that President Barack Obama has you on his payroll. There’s little doubt you have taken misguided activism to comical extremes. For example, is it true that you did not watch the Big Game on Sunday because you heard they ran “Shotgun” and “Pistol” offensive schemes?

I know the concept of protecting and defending the most sacred document in our nation may be strange to you, but the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution protects our right to bear arms, a right that was upheld as recently as 2008 by the U.S. Supreme Court. Texans never give up any of their rights without a fight, and we will fight this Administration and its liberal acolytes.

The inescapable senseless tragedy of twenty-six men, women and children being murdered in cold blood by a monster in Connecticut weighs heavy on our nation. But rather than tackle the most important issue - mental health - President Obama is looking for cheap headlines while encroaching on the constitutional rights of our citizens.

The irony is staggering; these people are directly the products of their upbringing, often proudly so, and yet they decry the very concept in favor of a theory that says people MUST choose to be exactly the way they are. Dallas man shot & killed two neighbors over dog turds

An ongoing argument between neighbors about a couple dumping dog feces on their elderly neighbor’s patio came to a head Monday morning when the neighbor shot and killed them, police say.

Police say Chung Kim, 75, lived in an apartment below Jamie Stafford and Michelle Jackson, both 31. There had been an ongoing dispute about the couple dumping their dog’s feces on Kim’s patio and front door, police say.

During an argument Monday morning, police say Kim used a handgun to shoot Jackson outside the door on her balcony. Kim then went upstairs into the couple’s apartment and shot at Stafford, who was climbing over the back patio railing. Stafford fell to the ground and Kim went outside, stood over Stafford and shot him again, police say.

Both victims were shot multiple times. They died at the scene.

Police say Kim fled in a black Lexus SUV. Police tracked him down and arrested him near Abrams Road and Larmanda Street.

He faces capital murder charges.

People are beautiful, I tell ya.

I keep saying it’s a result of the mind-body duality inherent in religions that have a soul as part of its philosophy. Most people disagree for some reason. What I see is the concept that the soul is the true person affected minimally by the body, so that an evil person is not a brain affected by the past and genetics but a soul that is actually evil at its core.

That makes it easy to disregard people like drug addicts, common thieves and even shop lifters as bad seeds not worth trying to fix.

Ah yes, it seems that Rachel Maddow had developed a bee up her butt about drones. I still can figure out if she is advocating sending the military into every failed state in Africa and elsewhere to arrest terrorists, with or without local authorities permission, or just wait until same terrorists come to visit Disney World where they can be arrested.

I think the latter although the characterization is still slightly unfair. She recently referred to Obama’s drone program as “Orwellian” and she did write some stupid book about the military budget/American Imperialism/Military-Industrial Complex or whatever. Seemed like overly simplistic moonbat ramblings to me, I suspect she’s smarter and more interesting than that as a person but marketing the TV character makes more money.

Interesting stuff in the CNN article on the conclusion of the Alabama kidnapping:

The FBI had borrowed from the U.S. military high-tech detection equipment similar to the technology used to discover homemade bombs in war zones, three Defense Department officials told CNN.
It was unclear whether the equipment, which is not readily available to civilian law enforcement, had been used by the FBI.
One of the defense officials said no members of the military were involved in the rescue. They would have been acting a technical advisers, the official said.

A commenter on another board suggested a more prosaic explanation: A camera hidden in the Hot Wheels car the FBI sent in for the boy. There is a precedent: The FBI sent a lot of bugs into the Branch Davidian compound in food boxes and other supplies, and that was 20 years ago.

How Abba Alhadi (and friends) saved the manuscripts of Timbuktu from Al Qaeda book burners:
[Link: bigstory.ap.org…]

…The Islamists came in, as they did in Afghanistan, with their own, severe interpretation of Islam, intent on rooting out what they saw as the veneration of idols instead of the pure worship of Allah. During their 10-month-rule, they eviscerated much of the identity of this storied city, starting with the mausoleums of their saints, which were reduced to rubble.

The turbaned fighters made women hide their faces and blotted out their images on billboards. They closed hair salons, banned makeup and forbade the music for which Mali is known.

Their final act before leaving was to go through the exhibition room in the institute, as well as the whitewashed laboratory used to restore the age-old parchments. They grabbed the books they found and burned them.

However, they didn’t bother searching the old building, where an elderly man named Abba Alhadi has spent 40 of his 72 years on earth taking care of rare manuscripts. The illiterate old man, who walks with a cane and looks like a character from the Bible, was the perfect foil for the Islamists. They wrongly assumed that the city’s European-educated elite would be the ones trying to save the manuscripts, he said.

So last August, Alhadi began stuffing the thousands of books into empty rice and millet sacks.

At night, he loaded the millet sacks onto the type of trolley used to cart boxes of vegetables to the market. He pushed them across town and piled them into a lorry and onto the backs of motorcycles, which drove them to the banks of the Niger River.

You can seldom be certain with getting right next to the bomb or getting a robot right next it so it can be directly examined. The problem with that is that if the loon sees you trying to disarm one of his bombs, he is liable to remote detonate said bomb.

Republicans [are] opposed to the fact that those who wished to purchase guns would have to pay for a background check.

“I now have to pay $25 to have this check,” Rep. Bill Rehm, R-Albuquerque. “To me, this is kind of like that poll tax.”

“That’s why we felt the burden of the cost should be on the state if we’re going to mandate this,” Rehm said.

Rep. Cathrynn Brown, R-Carlsbad, agreed, saying, “I do see this as a poll tax equivalent.”

Even if it wasn’t wired a forced entry is horribly risky. They wouldn’t do it unless the chances of the boy surviving were better than the boy remaining inside.

They must have thought that Dykes, who was obviously unhinged and had been without sleep for six days, was going to kill the boy.

So they took a chance.

They’re saying the usual, namely that any gun control passed will have to be sabotaged in such a way as to render it effectively useless. Shifting the cost of background checks onto the government means they can just vote, at one level or another, to cut that funding and ensure that gun shops aren’t running background checks due to lack of funding. When the number of checks goes down and guns in the hands of those who shouldn’t have them rise, they declare this “proof” that background checks are ineffective and push to abandon them.

That wouldn’t work, because the checks are required by law and I don’t see Obama signing anything that would weaken that requirement. Thus all cutting such funds would do would be to produce a backlog of gun buyers who can’t take home their guns because their background checks haven’t been done. I can’t see the House trying to pass something that would inevitably lead to such an outcome.

Here’s what I love:

“We are all obsessed with the Taliban and we ought to be. What about the gangs?” LaPierre, the NRA’s executive vice president, said according to a Fox News transcript. “They are ruining neighborhoods all over the country? We need a federal task force, if it takes 500 agents, if it takes a thousand agents, go into Chicago.

Every gang member on the street of Chicago, starting tomorrow morning, let’s pick ‘em up, we’ve got a federal law to get them off the street and put them in prison, and that would cut crime and we’re not doing it.”

So the organization that uses fear of a tyrannical government to justify their gun fetish is suggesting the government just go around and start rounding people up and throwing them in prison. Starting “tomorrow.” Just get 500 government agents and have them start roaming the streets, rounding up “every gang member” (wonder if he means scary dark people?).

Neither can I, which is why it’s a backhanded way of trying to kill further gun control measures. Insist that the cost be borne by the government, then get some BS “estimate” of the annual cost to run so many checks. Declare that the cost isn’t justified by the number denied guns annually and kill the bill on cost grounds.

It’s profoundly stupid rhetoric. Sloppy, inflammatory, and far too easy to counter. LaPierre has gotten lazy and it shows. He needs to be ousted, the sooner, the better. Because if he isn’t, then I fear the NRA is…

re: #259 Targetpractice

Self-fulfilling prophecy in his eyes. Demand the government take action, then declare said action “proof” that all the predictions about a tyrannical government are coming true. See also his rant about how universal background checks will serve as the basis for a national gun registry whose purpose will be to grab everybody’s guns.

In any sane world, this man would be at the top of the list of those who cannot own firearms.

Not to mention that his “argument” is one you always hear from gun nuts, namely “The government isn’t doing anything!” Point to “problem” that you feel government could easily “take care of,” but hasn’t. Suggest wild-eyed, baldly tyrannical move that would “solve” that “problem.” Insinuate that government won’t take that move because it actually created the “problem.” Then declare that the “problem” is just the government’s way of imposing tyranny on the people by saying the only solution is further control on the people.

Funny to hear that last guy talk about the protest being a disgrace and against protocol end his comment by saying “take them to the bridge and throw them into the tide until they learn some manners.” Really?

re: #267 Gus

To say it’s complicated is an understatement Gus. I’m Pakeha, a New Zealand born European, with a reasonable understanding of Tikanga Māori, protocol, and I struggle with the finer points.

In short, wheels within wheels, the people protesting were Tūtūā, commoners, who had failed to observe Tikanga Māori and the bloke at the end Rangatira, chiefly, took umbrage with their behaviour.

Follow Up:

I wrote the gun range. THis is their reply. I would sincerely like to think this is their honest answer. It would make me believe logical and constructive dialog, and change, is possible:

Thank you for your comment. We have never thought the Zombie target looked similar to our President. I would agree with you if this Zombie target was made to the likeness of the President, it would be not only offensive and inflammatory but illegal.

This Zombie target which they make in paper and in 3-D, is the most popular target we sell and has been in production for at least 3 years.

We have been doing this popular event for about a year and you are the first to bring to our attention any resemblance to our President. If we receive more comments in regards to the likeness to our President, we will take these targets off the shelves.

We have never put the two together and would never disrespect our President, or anyone else for that matter.

Again, we greatly appreciate your comments, as for without them we cannot make informed decisions.

I’m not really surprised that target is their most popular. I plan to send them some of the reviews revealed in this thread.
