Video: Rachel Maddow Cites LGF on the Right’s Non-Stop Anti-Obama Conspiracy Theories

Shout out
Politics • Views: 23,071

I was pleasantly surprised last night when Rachel Maddow showed a screen shot from LGF to illustrate her piece on the right wing’s continual invention of loony conspiracy theories about the President. Here’s the LGF article she used: Breitbart Blogger Dan Riehl on the Trail of a Bombshell Obama Photoshop Phraud.

But wait now. Wait just a second. The screenshot Rachel used for her show was … yes … shopped.

Yes, they edited the image to remove parts of the byline and moved the header down right next to the article headline. And notice those stray pixels around the LGF logo; a dead giveaway. This is no screenshot — it’s a fraud!

What is Rachel Maddow trying to hide?

I always get a little smirk when an internet meme gets into the MSM.

I bet that there’s a percentage of the audience who thought the ‘pixels’ thing was meant unironically.

GOP Senators Obstructing The Consumer Protection Bureau Receive Loads Of Wall Street Donations

43 Republican senators signed a letter last week saying that they would obstruct any nominee to run the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, regardless of qualifications, unless the CFPB is weakened. Republicans are essentially attempting to nullify a federal law via obstruction; Congress passed and President Obama signed a bill creating a CFPB, but the GOP is ensuring that it can’t function.

By weakening the CFPB, the GOP is doing the bidding of Wall Street’s biggest banks, which would have preferred that a regulator solely focused on consumer protection never come into being. Here are some facts and figures that Public Campaign pulled together on how much cash Wall Street has handed over to the 43 GOP’ers publicly obstructing Obama’s nominee:

Disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong’s public admission that he took performance-enhancing drugs will not change U.S. prosecutors’ decision to spare him of criminal charges, an attorney who oversaw the federal investigation said on Tuesday.

[…]

In February 2012, Birotte said his office had closed its investigation into possible crimes by Armstrong.

Speculation about charges began anew after Armstrong reversed his past doping denials in an interview with talk show host Oprah Winfrey. He told Winfrey he used performance-enhancing drugs and doping in cycling tournaments.

CBO once again reveals the ugly truth that the “fiscal hawks” would rather leave buried:

Deficit Obsession Has Hurt The Recovery: CBO

Here’s the buried lede from the Congressional Budget Office, which on Tuesday released its Budget and Economic Outlook for the coming decade: D.C.’s deficit obsession has been quite effective at cutting deficits at the expense of the still-struggling economy.

“[E]conomic activity will expand slowly this year, with real GDP growing by just 1.4 percent,” according to CBO’s projections. “That slow growth reflects a combination of ongoing improvement in underlying economic factors and fiscal tightening that has already begun or is scheduled to occur-including the expiration of a 2 percentage-point cut in the Social Security payroll tax, an increase in tax rates on income above certain thresholds, and scheduled automatic reductions in federal spending. That subdued economic growth will limit businesses’ need to hire additional workers, thereby causing the unemployment rate to stay near 8 percent this year, CBO projects.”

In other words, intentional efforts to reduce annual deficits and stabilize the debt are working. But if you retrain your gaze from the government’s balance sheet to the real economy, you’ll see the impact of that austerity is fewer people working and slower growth. According to CBO, the recovery won’t really pick up steam until next year, and the economy won’t have recovered until the end of 2017, when it will reach its output potential, and unemployment will fall to 5.5 percent.

CBO notes that the U.S. hasn’t experienced six consecutive years with unemployment exceeding 7.5 percent in over 70 years.

The report does contain a thin silver lining for President Obama, who pledged in his 2008 campaign to halve the deficit in his first term.

“At an estimated $845 billion, the 2013 imbalance would be the first deficit in five years below $1 trillion; and at 5.3 percent of GDP, it would be only about half as large, relative to the size of the economy, as the deficit was in 2009,” if current laws don’t change, according to CBO.

However, this particular budget and economic forecast is highly uncertain, even in the short term. Looming fights over the sequester, government appropriations, and the debt limit could dramatically alter the fiscal outlook and thus the economic forecast, for the year and coming decade. Similarly, deficits will be higher than projected if Congress, as it routinely does, extends expiring tax credits and overrides a 25 percent cut to Medicare physician reimbursement rates before the end of the year.

Texas Board of Education Chair Suggests Schools Teach ‘Another Side to the Theory of Evolution’

Barbara Cargill, whom Rick Perry picked to chair the State Board of Education, is upset that a curriculum used by several Texas schools called CSCOPE, which has been at the center of right-wing conspiracy theories, doesn’t teach students about alternative theories to evolution. As first reported by the Texas Freedom Network, Cargill said that publishers and CSCOPE should teach “another side to the theory of evolution.”

So, she supports teaching children that humanity is just the toxic residue left after the war between the Elder Things and the Star Spawn of Cthulhu?

They cannot openly call Obama a n***** so they come up with every other possible variant that calls attention to his race in a disparaging manner.

They cannot openly teach creationsism in public schools so they come up with every other possible variant to call attention to their belief that we were created by a giant guy in the sky in six days six thousand years ago.

They cannot overturn Roe v Wade so they just make it as impossible as possible for a woman to obtain a legal abortion.

They cannot win a presidential election so they try to disenfranchise as many voters and gerrymander as many districts as they can.
