Which, of course, is utter horseshit. Panetta and Dempsey both laid it out, there was no help coming because the closest military assets were hours away. There’s nothing Obama could have ordered that would have made a damned bit of difference before everything was over. There is no magic “Retaliate” button on the president’s desk that, when pushed, materializes entire battalions of troops wherever needed around the globe.

Certified Nursing Assistant —the new version of an LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse). CNA’s do most of the skilled nursing care for the elderly. All the one’s I’ve worked with are awesome!
Sugar is necessary to the proper regulation of the body. It is also what the brain uses for fuel. I suspect commericial hydration products have more than is absolutely necessary. There are sugar free versions, but I don’t know the exact labeling requirements for the form of sugar the body uses for fuel —so I don’t know how that works out.
One of the reasons orange juice is a big thing for hangover recovery is the sugar. The brain is depleted of it by the overuse of alcohol (which is also basically sugar). It needs to be replaced. Another reason gatorade is good for headaches.
I’m a big gatorade fan.

Maine Coon!! yes, I can see that. Cat’s aren’t pets, they are more like landlords, or roomates whose name is on the lease. They are so different from dogs that I don’t really think it matters if you have 1 or 12.
Dogs on the other hand are work. 3 is my limit.

WOW!!!
Cats tend to live longer than dogs, though not by a whole lot. The proven age record for a cat is 38 years, 3 days (“Creme Puff”, 1967-2005). The corresponding record for a dog is 29 years, 180 days and counting (“Max” born August 9, 1983 and still living as of a few weeks ago).

Speaking of cats, my daughter’s black tomcat, Roo, will be 22 years old in June. He is in good health for such an ancient critter and is reported to spend most of his time sleeping. Needless to say, the daughter is very attached to him, partly because he is just a great cat but also because he is a legacy from her mother. My wonder-dog, Roswell the Atomic Poodle, was similarly one of my wife’s acquisitions. Roswell died 3 years ago at 16 years of age.
When I met my husband, he had a 15 year old kitty. Pure-bred Burmese he’d adopted from a friend, who sounded like she had smoked a pack a day for all 15 of those years. She made it to about two months after I took my qualifying exam and passed away very suddenly - fine on Friday and we put her to sleep on Monday after a weekend at the emergency vet.
I hope your daughter gets many more years, yet, but I also hope she gets the chance to be there when the time comes to say goodbye too.

Lee and Supervisor Malia Cohen last week introduced legislation to make the possession of hollow-point, or expanding, bullets illegal and to require dealers to notify police when more than 500 rounds are sold in a single transaction.
California hunting regulations require hollowpoint or softpoint expanding bullets for the taking of big game. I realize that not a lot of deer hunting gets done in SF, but if this proposal passes hunters who live in SF won’t even allowed to keep their California State mandated hunting ammunition within the city and county.
Banning hollowpoints also carries the risk of increasing injuries to unintended third parties, since full metal jacketed bullets are more likely to both ricochet and to over penetrate their target.

Conservative warns The Daily Show: U.S. will invade ‘entire continent of Africa’ due to Muslims
Al Madrigal of The Daily Show mocked an anti-Islam conservative activist on Thursday night amid a report on the M1 Abrams tank.
More than 100 members of Congress have called on the Pentagon to build 300 more of the massive tanks at a cost of $3 billion. But the Army has said it has no need for them.
“Well, we need more tanks for the simple reason that we may have to use them,” conservative author Alan Caruba explained.
Retired Major General Paul Eaton disagreed emphatically. He noted the U.S. military already had 3,000 tanks “sitting in a boneyard near Reno,” causing Madrigal to wonder if Nevada had ever been attacked.
“To my knowledge, Nevada has never been attacked,” Eaton replied.

Those two don’t care. They want to be seen as “standing against violence”, which is a good thing but only if your stand is effective. This particular stand, like the statewide gun bans proposed in Cali in general, is counter productive and by forcing use of less effective ammunition on those who obey the law, is likely to get good people killed. Yes, hollowpoint ammo is designed to kill living things. But a gun intended for personal defense is owned so that its owner can quickly kill an unlawful assailant as a last resort. If such killing becomes needed, better to have the proper ammo for the job. Otherwise, there’ll be stories of the homeowner charged for emptying ten rounds into an intruder, prompting yet more call to curb guns.

High earners in the Golden State now face an astoundingly high combined income tax rate. ‘Come check out Texas’
Why would anyone want to check out Rick Perry’s Texas? Or does fracking effluent and fundamentalist bonhomie have a certain charm to it?
At 13.3 percent, the top-tier California income tax is, in addition to being higher than any other state, the steepest it has been since World War II.
Oh god. Two percentage points ahead of Oregon and New Jersey. Are balanced budgets worth so much pain?
Phil Mickelson, the golfer who collects purses in excess of $1 million, suggested that he might become the latest in a line of athletes and entertainment figures, among them Tiger Woods, who left California for states like Florida, which has no personal income tax.

Of coarse a lot of wingnuts will say this is a false flag operation to help pass gun control like this person already has done.
The comment came from this FB page
[Link: www.facebook.com…]
I have a strange feeling something is off, while I do agree with his reasoning, to stand against corruption, it allows the media to paint the picture that guns are dangerous, that veterans will go crazy, that veterans are a danger to society, that people “must be disarmed”. And I know that he was an intel operative. Meaning it is likely he has connections to the CIA. Which leads me to question whether it is all a part of the plan to have him do what he is, to support the gun control, as he supported Obama. But either way, killing the corrupt doesn’t sound like too bad of an idea, since they will only protect themselves. The motto for the police departments should be “to protect the power of the government” because most seem to do just that. So I am truly torn on who’s side he is truly on. I will continue to keep an eye on the “manhunt” and hope for the best outcome. If he is true to his word that he is doing this for ‘the right reasons’ hail satan I have his back

Quite a while back, I had a single bogus charge show up on a debit card. Someone bought ~$250 (why they stopped there, I have no idea) worth of stuff from a {legit} online retailer in China. The bank (Compass) got it sorted out eventually, but it took about 3 weeks and they refused to cancel the card number, even knowing it had apparently been compromised somehow. They expected me to just keep disputing whatever bogus charges might show up in the future. I decided that was a load of balls and moved to a local credit union.

Conservative religious BS.
Nigeria, polio, measles, diphtheria (2001 onward)
In the early first decade of the 21st century, conservative religious leaders in northern Nigeria, suspicious of Western medicine, advised their followers not to have their children vaccinated with oral polio vaccine. The boycott was endorsed by the governor of Kano State, and immunization was suspended for several months. Subsequently, polio reappeared in a dozen formerly polio-free neighbors of Nigeria, and genetic tests showed the virus was the same one that originated in northern Nigeria: Nigeria had become a net exporter of polio virus to its African neighbors. People in the northern states were also reported to be wary of other vaccinations, and Nigeria reported over 20,000 measles cases and nearly 600 deaths from measles from January through March 2005.[34] In 2006 Nigeria accounted for over half of all new polio cases worldwide.[35] Outbreaks continued thereafter; for example, at least 200 children died in a late-2007 measles outbreak in Borno State.[36]

Snowmageddon (or the Snowpocalypse) always starts out that way. Lulls you into a sense of smug. And then it hits.
The commute into Lower Manhattan wasn’t all that bad. Mass transit and walking weren’t bad ways to go, but that’ll change this afternoon as the storm cranks up.
They’re upping the snow totals according to the NWS. For parts of Northern NJ, we might see anywhere from 9 to 17 inches from the storm (a pretty wide range, but one that takes into account the expected banding from embedded heavier snow pockets). Thundersnow is possible as well.
And as bad as it’s supposed to be in NYC metro, it’s gonna be a whole different ball of wax through New England with a large area getting 2 feet or more.

It’s all about the temperatures. The temperature boundary is over central NJ at the moment, and the warmer air from the south overrides the colder air from the north pushing out the precipitation ahead of it. If the cold air doesn’t get squeezed out or it stays cold enough, the precip that falls doesn’t get a chance to turn to rain or sleet - and the snow piles up.
Southern Jersey is just on the other side of the frontal boundaries. Not enough cold air to change the precip over to snow at ground level. Lucky for you at least.
For me, it’s an opportunity to crank out the snow blower and maybe take some photos around town.

If you’re on the phone with them to cancel the accounts, demand to speak with a manager and say that they didn’t follow your instructions to close the account last year - and that it remained open despite your express request to do so. Pretty much tell them that you want compensation for their failure. The worst that’ll happen is that they tell you they can’t do it. On the other hand, you might be able to get some $ out of it.

Notice that the truck isn’t even the correct make, model or color. It looks like they saw the first two digits of the suspect’s license plate, stopped thinking and just started blazing away.
This whole incident makes me feel even better about exempting cops from reasonable gun control measures. Way to go guys.

I don’t care how much of a target the LAPD is. That’s just an incredible lack of judgment on their part. Guys should be fired on the spot. I hope those ladies get a decent lawyer and sue the LAPD to the point they’ll have to hold a bake sale to buy a t-shirt. You know how I know police are straight up panicking?
LAPD, Torrance Police Shot At Innocent People In Frenzied Hunt For Former Cop Christopher Dorner
…
Officers from the Los Angeles and Torrance police departments engaged in two separate shootings Thursday morning in Torrance, Calif., reports KTLA. They had come across two different vehicles that were similar to the description of Dorner’s getaway car, a gray 2005 Nissan Titan pickup.
The first shooting incident happened at 5:20 a.m. Officers from the Hollywood division of the LAPD shot two people who turned out to have no connection to Dorner’s crimes. They were transported to the hospital with gunshot injuries.
The second incident occurred 25 minutes later and involved Torrance police. While shots were fired, there were no reported injuries.
It’s very unsettling to know that one, admittedly scary violent fuckhead, can make multiple law enforcement agencies in a major metropolis just shit themselves in terror.

Desk duty.
I get that cops can shoot civilians. Happens all too frequently. Just last year, a bunch of people were hit by stray bullets fired by NYPD during an incident outside the Empire State Building after a gunman killed someone near the building. It happens, and that’s with a level of training (and some would suggest that training is inadequate and even the NYPD is moving to increase training when its new police academy and firing range are completed soon).
It goes against the meme by the gun rights folks that good guys with guns can stop bad guys with guns - ignoring that even the good guys with training can shoot bystanders and that we can’t expect folks who have no training to do any better (and could do a whole lot worse).
The LAPD has a whole bunch of problems, and the Dorner mess is highlighting them for all to see in bright crimson. Institutional reform is needed, and what they’ve done to date isn’t sufficient. I get that the cops were shooting first and asking questions later (because they’re concerned that Dorner might get the drop on them first). It’s in human nature, but they need to evaluate their procedures and if the cop on the beat thinks that they’ve seen Dorner, they need to evaluate the situation and see if it is really him - and call for backup.

Exactly, if you want to defend yourself in your own home, that’s your decision. But once you start playing vigilante, there’s just too much that can go wrong, even with training, solid nerves and a sound sense of judgement.
And as we have seen, that is a rather rare and hard-to-acquire set of skills…

One would think that the police would have had the licence plate number of the guy’s truck, just to avoid such confusion. (unless it wasn’t his vehicle)
I think the panic in part stems from the fact that this loon is going after the families of the LAPD members he thinks wronged him. Not professional, and the LA cops need reforming and purging, but that would account for some of the emotional response.

It’s a subtle and complex plan by the LAPD and other police departments to get increased gun control approved and implemented. They expound on their level of expertise in training and handling guns - and then set up a false flag operation with one of their own that will allow them to carry out a series of sub-operations that combine to increase the negative viewpoint that gun ownership is benign and beneficial for a safe community.
To wit:
- Shoot up a few civilian vehicles to indicate that even well-trained people often cannot be trusted to shoot up innocents, much less the average and arguably insufficiently trained civilian.
- Trigger a widespread fake manhunt to heighten civilian fear of people being loose with automatic weapons and other guns.
- Remove a few sacrificial lambs that drive home the vulnerability of police and thus the need to reduce the level of weapons in the community by any means.
- Point out that since all Japanese makes of pick-up truck look the same that Americans need to buy American in the future. No one confuses Ford with Chevy and vice versa.

It’s tough enough going after an ex-military guy also with police training (meaning he knows the ins-and-outs of how they do business, LAPD or not). Thankfully (as grotesque as that sounds) he wanted to prove a point and get his message out, so at least the police know who they’re going after, so he at least can’t hide out in the open. Still horrible, but as you said, if they didn’t know who or what? The harm done could be even more devastating.
And once the cops realized they were being targeted? Ugh, as I said yesterday, stay safe and stay inside Californians. Call in sick.

The “started blazing away” bothers me, not only because two innocent women were injured, but also because such poor aim could also impact those beyond their targets.
While I do not support, in any way, the suspects motives, the actions of the LAPD in trying to apprehend him do speak to a “shoot first, ask questions later” mentality that the suspect questioned in his manifesto. I don’t think that the LAPD have any plan to take him in alive.

Not to sympathize, but I’d guess that they’re probably at least somewhat true. It’s not like our police forces are paragons of excellence when it comes to corruption and the like (and the LAPD isn’t exactly Saintly).
But once Dorner is gone, all of that will probably be forgotten. It’ll just be shuffled off as the rantings of a lunatic. There’s better ways to get out a message, and no matter how correct he may be, your message loses credibility when you start killing people (especially cops, no matter how bad you think they are).

Granted, but at the same time, I’m not sure there was really any way he was going to get a fair hearing. At first blush, what I’ve heard so far gives me the impression that he stepped over the thin blue line and got swatted down for it. Anything he said after that was going to get written off as the ravings of a bad cop with an axe to grind.

The NWS/NOAA/NSSL and NHC have nothing to do with trying to name winter storms.
As I was saying to a colleague, what are they doing naming winter storms? Are they going to have a name for every lake effect storm that hits through Buffalo and the Finger Lakes region? Nor’easters only? Storms that generate 6+ inches of snow? Blizzards (which don’t always require lots of snow - only lots of wind sustained for 3+ hours).
It doesn’t make any sense.

Dorner manhunt: San Diego sighting is hoax; officials look at charges
San Diego authorities are looking at possible charges after determining that a reported sighting of fugitive ex-police officer Christopher Dorner — an incident that prompted a six-hour search — was a hoax.
A cellphone call about 10:20 p.m. Thursday led deputies to respond to a home near the Barona Indian Reservation, said San Diego County Sheriff’s Lt. Jason Rothlein. Authorities were able to enter the home early Friday morning and confirmed that Dorner was not inside, he said.
Officials questioned the legitimacy of the report because the caller often changed and embellished the story, Rothlein said.

Mornin’ Lizards.
It keeps alternating between snow and rain here in downtown Manhattan, and there’s not much wind. I’m waiting for this evening. As soon as the sun sets, that’s when all hell is supposed to break loose.
And the only reason we’re supposed to be in better shape than Boston is that we’re getting this rainy part of the storm. It’s going to be all snow up New England’s way.

I don’t think a lot of them understand what their life would probably be like under a “true” economic system of any ilk; be it capitalism, communism, etc. All of them as working models make some very broad assumptions about human behavior being rational and informed. And we all know that human behavior is, if anything, generally not acting that way beyond a very localized and short-term viewpoint.

Yeah, you can thank the Weather Channel for the naming nonsense.
We’re gonna need a bigger alphabet.

Images of Production Line of Iranian ScanEagle Released
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran aired images of a drone production line which is producing copies of the US ScanEagle UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles).
This appears to be the video
It seems to be a collection of still images. It doesn’t look like a functioning assembly line, the drones arranged on top of massive steel girders for some reason. Looks more like a display. In the middle of the video there’s a series of still shots that looks like an attempted launch from a ship at sea. The drone crashes about 30 feet of the side of the boat.

There’s a lot more to effectively operating drone, planes, etc. than just rolling them off a design line.
Just dig a bit historically and you see a long development chain lined with bodies in the development of explosives, aircraft, carrier operations, rockets, etc. (The blooper reels of US rocket launches from the 50s are probably all over You Tube.) Besides design issues there is also handling, operational procedures, control, and maintenance.

I think this is important enough to make the hijack here. Referencing last night’s posts from downthread: y’all, the rights of citizens of the United States in regard to United States actions stand even when they are outside the nation’s borders. The defining case is Reid v Covert.
You may - you DO in many cases - disagree, but it is the law of the land as it stands.
Note that this does not say that foreigners in foreign lands who are subject to US actions get full benefits. They get some but not all. The more under our control they are, the more benefit they receive.
But if you are a US citizen the United States - directly or through agents - cannot ignore your constitutional rights.

Hardly a factory setting IMO. Factory floor settings usually are concrete, and if there are markings, they usually indicate material flow patterns, safety markings, etc.

I think there are a couple of distinctions that apply. Reid v. Covert involved a crime committed on a US military base (American soil, but overseas). They were tried by military court martial instead of a civilian court. The S.Ct. ruled that this was improper and the Constitutional protections extended to them.
However, there’s a different case that applies to terrorists and citizenship. Since the 1967 case Afroyim v. Rusk, it’s been nearly impossible for someone to be involuntarily stripped of U.S. citizenship because it requires that you will only lose your citizenship if you do so with the intention of relinquishing United States nationality. It’s a standard that’s pretty tough to meet, though it hasn’t stopped the US from carrying out the UAV strikes against Awlaki and others who fight for AQ despite being US citizens.
It’s arguable that taking up arms against the US as part of a terror group constitutes a voluntary renunciation of citizenship. I’d posit that it is indeed a voluntary renunciation of citizenship to take up arms in that fashion.

Aviation experts say new Iranian stealth jet is a pathetic hoax that can’t even fly
From the loony regime that just figured how to shoot a monkey into space: Iran now claims it has its own homemade, radar-beating stealth fighter jet.
But aviation and defense experts say the tiny one-seater looks like a toy and might not even be able to fly — calling it a “laughable fake.”
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad unveiled the Qaher F313 at a Tehran hangar last week and called it “one of the most advanced” aircraft in the world.
But the experts said it was too small for a human pilot — and the controls and wiring looked too simple for a real jet.
Ahmadinejad boasted it had “almost all the positive features” of the world’s most sophisticated jets. But among the features that seem to be missing are bolts and rivets — found on the simplest planes.
“It looks like the Iranians dumped some rudimentary flight controls and an ejection seat into a shell molded in what they thought were stealthy angles,” reporter John Reed wrote in the journal Foreign Policy.
“It looks like it might make a noise and vibrate if you put 20 cents in,” joked Andrew Davies of the Australian Strategic Policy Institute. “I can see (almost) how North Korea gets away with transparent nonsense due to isolation, but Iran has a population that’s much more switched on and connected, at least in the cities.
Ha ha ha ha ha! Who do they think they are fooling? The drones are probably made by the same geniuses.

re: #315 Varek Raith
Or this.
But the “gun in every closet” tradition was challenged in 2001, after a disgruntled citizen opened fire with his army rifle inside a regional parliament, killing 14 and injuring 14 others — the only mass shooting in Switzerland’s recent history. The subsequent opposition to widespread gun ownership spearheaded a push for stricter arms legislation. The government and pro-gun groups argued, however, that the country’s existing laws regulating the sale, ownership and licensing of private guns, which includes a ban on carrying concealed weapons, are stringent enough. The law allows citizens or legal residents over the age of 18, who have obtained a permit from the government and who have no criminal record or history of mental illness, to buy up to three weapons from an authorized dealer, with the exception of automatic firearms and selective fire weapons, which are banned. Semiautomatics, which have caused havoc in the U.S., can be legally purchased.
The authorities made one concession, though: since 2008, all military — but not private — ammunition must be stored in central arsenals rather than in soldiers’ homes. The debate culminated in a nationwide referendum last year, when 56% of voters rejected the proposal initiated by anti-gun organizations to ban army rifles from homes altogether.

It’s always hard to tell what they’re thinking with these laughable propaganda efforts. I don’t think they’re dumb enough to think they’re fooling the international community. I assume this if intended for domestic consumption to convince the public that they are safe and protected while the regime continues pissing off the rest of the world.

Fischer: God ignoring Obama because he’s ‘arrogant’ and supports LGBT marriages
Bryan Fischer, the director of issues analysis of the conservative American Family Association (AFA), says that God is ignoring President Barack Obama’s prayers because he still supports equal marriage rights for LGBT people.
At the National Prayer Breakfast on Thursday, Obama called for “humility” that “carries over every day, every moment.”
“Let us retain that humility not just during this hour but for every hour,” the president said. “And let me suggest that those of us with the most power and influence need to be the most humble.”
But in his Thursday radio broadcast, Fischer concluded that God must be ignoring Obama if he has to pray for humility every day.
Well, isn’t that special.….

It could be treason as well, but as the Constitution requires two witnesses, it’s harder to try (and it’s one of the reasons there’s been so few trials on grounds of treason - those who would nominally engage in treason are instead convicted on other crimes that don’t require two witnesses).
So, while someone might be engaging in treasonous activities like fighting on behalf of a terror group, it could also be treated as a renunciation of citizenship. If you focus on the latter, then UAV airstrikes are legal. If you consider only the former, then the UAV strikes would be prohibited because the person hasn’t lost his citizenship rights to trial. The President (and seemingly Congress) thus far has leaned towards this interpretation.

Again, people keep conflating the 2 things like it’s an either/or scenario. You can blame anything you want as the cause of the violence.
Guns are the tool that is most likely used to carry out that violence. Video games, society, media, movies, bad drivers, bad service, loud music, wearing a hoodie, anything can be blamed for driving somebody to violence. Having a gun makes it way easier to act it out.

Investigation opened into hacked Bush family e-mails
(CNN) – The United States Secret Service is investigating the hacking and publication of private e-mails between members of the Bush family, including former Presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush, which were published online late Thursday.
“The Secret Service is investigating this matter,” the agency’s spokesman Ed Donovan told CNN on Friday.
Jim McGrath, spokesman to George H.W. Bush, said only that “we do not comment on matters under criminal investigation.”
George W. Bush’s spokesman also had no comment on the hacking.
The e-mails, which included some private photographs of the political family, delved into personal family topics, scheduling matters and contact information for dozens of extended Bush relatives.
The cache of hacked correspondence was posted on a gossip website Thursday, and included e-mails sent between 2009 and 2012.
Late last year, the elder President Bush spent more than a month in a Houston-area hospital after being admitted with bronchitis. He spent a week in intensive care as doctors treated a fever.
The hacked photographs unveiled Thursday included communications and photos during the time Bush was hospitalized.

Hezbollah eyeing terror strikes
THE terrorist threat from Hezbollah is at its highest level for 20 years, US security officials have warned, as the European Union mulled the option of listing the group as a terrorist organisation.
Western intelligence agencies believe that the Lebanese group is now more active overseas than at any time since the early 1990s, with attacks planned on Israeli and American tourists.
The warning follows Tuesday’s report from Bulgaria that blamed members of Hezbollah’s military wing for the bomb attack on a bus carrying Israeli tourists in the Black Sea resort of Burgas last July. Five Israelis and the Bulgarian bus driver were killed, along with one of the bombers.
Funded and armed by Iran, with ties to international drug cartels and crime syndicates in Mexico and West Africa, Hezbollah has expanded its overseas operations.
Hezbollah and Iranian agents have been implicated in recent plots in Cyprus, India, Thailand, Kenya, Azerbaijan, Egypt and South Africa. All were foiled or unsuccessful but the range of targets underscores the group’s renewed ambition.
“We are seeing a new scale to Hezbollah’s operations overseas that we have not seen,” a US State Department official said. “The group has had an international presence for a long time, but now it has near-global reach.”

More from Raw Story:
…Photos included in an information dump turned over to The Smoking Gun include President George H.W. Bush in the hospital, the elder Bush posing with President Bill Clinton, a family photo of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and even President George W. Bush posing with a cardboard cutout of himself wearing a mustache and beret.
Three of the images also show paintings Bush created, including one of himself in the shower, another of himself in a bath, and a third of him crouched over a canvas depicting a church.
A hacker going by the name “Guccifer” claimed the stolen messages include addresses, phone numbers and email addresses that go directly to both former presidents and their families, along with a security code for a gate outside the younger Bush’s home in Dallas.
…The hacker reportedly claimed that his latest coup is just one among “hundreds,” adding: “i have an old game with the fucking bastards inside, this is just another chapter in the game.”

What voter fraud?
//
Poll worker accused of voter fraud in Hamilton County speaks out
CINCINNATI - The Hamilton County Board of Elections is investigating 19 possible cases of alleged voter fraud following months of investigation after the 2012 election.
Twenty-eight subpoenas have been issued as a result of the investigation, which includes 19 Hamilton County voters and nine witnesses who still need to answer questions to satisfy the board.
The board started with 80 suspicious cases and now are down to 19. Officials say the majority of the cases turned out to be simple misunderstandings.
Melowese Richardson, a Madisonville resident, first learned of the allegations when approached by 9 On Your Side reporter Tom McKee Wednesday. Even though she admits to voting twice in the last election, she said the news came as surprise.
“I would think that something this important would come to me first and that I wouldn’t have to be enlightened about this through you,” said Richardson.

Jesse Jackson, Jr., signs plea deal, admits violating campaign finance law
He might avoid jail time.
Judge Would Decide If Jackson Jr. Goes To Jail Under ‘Blind Plea’ Deal
(CBS) – A tentative deal for former Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. calls for him to plead guilty to misuse of campaign funds and let a federal judge determine whether he serves any time in prison, CBS 2 has learned.
Three separate sources with knowledge of the deal have helped piece together details of the “blind plea” deal. Barring last-minute changes, Jackson would plead guilty to a single felony count and leave his fate in the hands of the judge, CBS 2 Chief Correspondent Jay Levine reports.
Jackson’s punishment could range from probation to five years in prison.
The former congressman would also agree to repay hundreds of thousands of dollars spent over a four-year-period for things like a $40,000 men’s Rolex watch he bought for himself, as well as clothing, meals and travel expenses.
The government also demanded that he resign from Congress, which he already did, and agree to let a federal judge determine his punishment, which according to the agreement could range from probation to 5 years in prison.

Second assault attempt on Ahmadinejad in Cairo
An Egyptian citzien attempted to assault Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Thursday evening.
The assault occurred at the residence the residence of Mojtaba Amani, the acting Iranian ambassador in Cairo, during a ceremony commemorating the anniversary of the Iranian Islamic Revolution.
The attacker attempted to physically assault Ahmadinejad as he chanted, “Down with Iran, he must leave,” Al-Masry Al-Youm reported.
A journalist for the Turkish news agency Anadolu who was present at the scene said that the aggressor was swiftly removed by security guards.
This is the second attempted attack on the Iranian president during his stay in Cairo to participate in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation summit, which concluded its activities on Thursday afternoon. Earlier this week, a young Syrian man tried to assault Ahmadeinjad as he was coming out of the Hussein Mosque and threw his shoe at him.

KKK rallying ‘thousands’ after Memphis parks drop Confederate names
A Ku Klux Klan leader named Edward, who goes by the title “KKK Exalted Cyclops,” is promising the “largest” rally in Memphis history after the city decided to remove Confederate names from three parks.
In an 9-0 vote on Tuesday night, the Memphis City Council approved temporary names for three Confederate-themed parks. Forest Park will become “Health Sciences Park,” Confederate Park will be called “Memphis Park” and Jefferson Davis Park will get the name “Mississippi River Park.”
On Thursday, the KKK Exalted Cyclops told WMC-TV that his group had started planning its response before the City Council even voted.
“You’re going to see the largest rally Memphis, Tennessee has ever seen,” he promised. “It’s not going to be 20 or 30, it’s going to be thousands of Klansmen from the whole United States coming to Memphis, Tennessee.”

Troubled Nevada lawmaker announces 3-week leave
CARSON CITY — The Nevada Assembly on Thursday formed a special committee to investigate troubled Assemblyman Steven Brooks, who moments later announced on the chamber floor his intent to take a three-week leave.
The developments came a day after Brooks, 40, was ousted from the Assembly Democratic caucus and caps weeks of bizarre events that began last month with his arrest for allegedly threatening Assembly Speaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick, a fellow North Las Vegas Democrat.
Brooks, D-North La Vegas, was temporarily hospitalized a week later for a psychiatric evaluation.
…Since the Legislature began Monday, Brooks has been escorted throughout the building by legislative police, who have not allowed anyone to ride in an elevator along with him.
…Brooks, elected to his second term in November, has been under scrutiny since his Jan. 19 arrest over threats he is accused of making against Kirkpatrick. According to police reports, he had a gun in his car and dozens of rounds of ammunition.

Former San Diego Mayor: Public Schools Are Anti-American, Teach ‘Hatred of White People’
Roger Hedgecock is a syndicated right-wing talk show host based in San Diego. For years, he was a regular fill-in for Rush Limbaugh, and before that he was a Republican mayor of San Diego – briefly, that is. He was convicted of campaign finance violations and thrown out of office only two years into his first term.
…
Further complicating Hedgecock’s life-as-a-white-man is that public schools are teaching “hatred of white people” and “hatred of white privilege.” The curriculum, he argued, is “as anti-American, anti-West and anti-white as you could imagine.” As proof, he cited a diversity program in Portland, OR schools that dared to mention that whites have traditionally enjoyed a number of privileges.
Hedgecock said he wants everybody to get along so we can all get past racism and live up to the Republican Party’s history. If only Obama could be more like Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King, Jr., racial tensions wouldn’t be so high:
Racial tensions in this country are at an all-time high in my lifetime, and I lived through the 50s. I lived through Rosa Parks. I lived through Martin Luther King, Jr. The consensus was at that time among white people that those civil rights efforts were in the noblest tradition of the American republic, lived up to our values as expressed in the Declaration of Independence, and lived up the Republican Party’s history, including why it was even formed, to get rid of slavery in the first place.
Ah, yes. The consensus among whites in the ‘50s was that King and Parks were awesome and not the least bit controversial. They just politely asked for equality, and the white people said, “okay, sorry about that.” Everybody held hands and sang. And it was going perfectly until a white-hating black man got himself elected president.

Yeah. Me. I could rock the finger paints as a kid. And my macaroni art and string art were awesome. After that, it was all downhill. XD

Members of the group Young Americans for Liberty, which was originally formed to support former Rep. Ron Paul’s (R-TX) 2008 presidential campaign, expressed outrage at the use of student funds for the event.
Their Liberties is being oppressed and Tyranny.

I wonder if the wingnuts will ever get to the point where they admit that they don’t actually like the constitution. It might take a few generations.

Damn do these patriots even read the fucking constitution.
Fucking idiots.
Their argument is that Islam is not a religion, it is a political system that advocates the hostile overthrow of the US government.
You are not about to convince them otherwise, all you can do is to keep these people as far away from political power as possible.

Which is ironic considering how many of them want to toss out US law and replace it with the Bible.

But you see. We are a Christian nation! All non-Christians must be deported! If all that’s left is Christians as the Founders intended, there would be no need for a litmus test!

Kilgore Trout..you might remember me from NewsVine I used to blog under the clandestine nomenclature Schroedingers Cat. To quote the new Scotty from STrek movie..”I like this Ship!..It’s Exciting! Newsvine was for people who’s epidermas did not have the tensile cohesion to take a few remarks. It seemed like the moderators wanted everyone to converse like timid ladies at a church Tea Social! I like it here because we are allowed to use the full vocabulary including colourful metaphors! Tyler axed me for “thousands of paper cuts” while he let the Riech Wingers blugeon people with the dull blunt wittless flagilations .Tyler can now osculate my skinny (yet firm) ass! Let him put up with his own cowardice and lack of common sense!

I support any one who kills Nazis and their sympathizers.
I mean you did know that Tudjman, then leader of Croatia reserrected the Nazi puppet state’s symbols and mythology
[Link: www.independent.co.uk…]
And that the Bosnian Muslim leader openly supported the Nazi SS?
[Link: www.nytimes.com…]
Of course you didn’t know. You are American. It’s a mircale you can find the Balkans on the map (Clinton called it the region the “Baltics” when bombing began).
