Sen. Graham to Sec. Panetta: Obama Didn’t Care About Dead Americans in Benghazi

Demented Republican politics
Politics • Views: 24,035

The right wing blogs and Republican politicians are still pushing their demented conspiracy theories about Benghazi, and the Daily Caller has yet another stupid post riling up their goonish audience. Every President delegates authority in situations like Benghazi, but for some reason (I bet you can guess what it is) the Republican Party is trying to imply that there’s something special going on when President Obama does it: Panetta Can’t Explain Why Obama Never Called Back During Benghazi Attack [VIDEO] | the Daily Caller.

Panetta can’t explain why Obama didn’t call him (after their initial conversation) because he isn’t Obama and doesn’t want to speak for him. Obviously. So the right takes this statement and tries to make into something sinister.

Sen. Lindsey Graham reveals what’s really underneath these murky insinuations with a question to Sec. Panetta:

SEN. GRAHAM: Mr. Secretary, you didn’t know how long the attack would last. Did you ever call him and say, Mr. President, it looks like we don’t have anything to get there anytime soon?

SEC. PANETTA: The event was over before we could move any assets.

SEN. GRAHAM: It lasted almost eight hours. And my question to you is during that eight-hour period, did the president show any curiosity about how’s this going, what kind of assets do you have helping these people? Did he ever make that phone call?

SEC. PANETTA: Look, there is no question in my mind that the president of the United States was concerned about American lives and, frankly, all of us were concerned about American lives.

SEN. GRAHAM: With all due respect, I don’t believe that’s a credible statement if he never called and asked you, are we helping these people; what’s happening to them?

Yes, that’s right; Lindsey Graham is actually saying that President Obama is not concerned when Americans are killed overseas. It’s an outrageous statement, but totally in keeping with the racist assumptions encouraged by the Republican Party about Obama — that he’s a secret angry black radical who rejoices when terrorists attack America.

This is the deranged thinking behind the Benghazi-gate fake outrage. Sen. Graham feels no hesitation about making such hateful claims, because he knows he’ll be rewarded for it by the GOP base.

Keep it up GOP. You’re just reinforcing why you’re too insane to be allowed in power.

2 lawhawk  Fri, Feb 8, 2013 10:50:25am

Not rewarded, but necessary to fend off a primary run in 2014 against a nutter’s who is even more extreme than he is and who would attack Graham for not being even more extremist and sufficiently right wing.

He’s pandering to the extremists to avoid a primary fight.

That’s the underlying premise of the line of questioning.

The showboating and deranged outrage are subordinate to the political necessity that Graham thinks he needs to get reelected to the US Senate from South Carolina in 2014.

3 kirkspencer  Fri, Feb 8, 2013 10:53:39am

Remember, Graham is looking at being primaried from the right. Given his track record this is about the only place he can be wingnutty enough to avoid it.

I don’t think he will succeed. I think he’ll still lose his primary to an even wingnuttier challenger, who not only doubles down on Graham’s #benghazi obsession but hits him in all the places he garnered Democratic votes.

If he loses, South Carolina may put a Democrat in the senate. Because the person who overcomes Graham is going to be an Angle type, and South Carolina isn’t that red.

They seem to be chomping at the bit in order to bring an impeachment charge against the President.

There’s nothing too ridiculous to consider, nothing premise too far-fetched, no rock they won’t look under in their buffoonish behavior in order to smear Obama.

If Graham is what passes for a moderate these days, give me the batshit crazy guys. At least you know what to expect from them.

14 kirkspencer  Fri, Feb 8, 2013 11:03:32am

btw, SC is going to be an interesting state to watch. Lee Bright has indicated that he’s going to challenge Graham. The thing is, both of the South Carolina senator positions will have elections in 2014. Tom Cole Tim Scott (sitting in DeMint’s seat till then) says he won’t be running; he’s a placeholder. And Bright was expected to run for that seat instead.

He’s running for Graham’s seat for two reasons. First, six years instead of two. Second, he thinks that the deMint seat is a lock for a RWNJ while Graham’s “lost his way as a conservative.”

If (and I know it is a big if) the state is lined as I think, that’s a bigger gamble than Bright believes.

17 Political Atheist  Fri, Feb 8, 2013 11:07:05am

Just noticed a detail in a photo of the guys patrolling and looking for Dorner. They have “silenced” (Hollywood BS) assault rifles. That means those cops can patrol without ear protection. If they shoot their ears will be ok. I can’t remember the last time I saw those on a cops gun, if ever. Of course that also would make it tough for Dorner to find a cop shooting at him.

It’s winter. We’re used to bad snows. They’re supposed to happen during winters. It’s when they happen at unusual times (like the Halloween October storm in 2011), in places that normally don’t get these kinds of storms, or with unusual frequency, that something is up.

That’s what the nutters don’t get.

You can actually report it to the NSSL via their web page. Even easier with a smartphone (iphone/Droid) - since it embeds the GPS locations for the observations.

The data will help the NSSL figure out what happens close to ground level that radars miss (and can only guestimate based on what their radars see going on several thousand feet in the sky).

It’s a pretty neat application of tech to solve a practical problem. End result is hopefully better forecasting and more accurate storm forecasting for precipitation.

Actually, I read a different one from a wingnut today: homosexuality disproves evolution. On the surface at least, that’s a better one than you usually hear from the wingnuts, since in theory, homosexuals wouldn’t reproduce in the natural world and pass their genes on. The English word “fascinate” ultimately derives from Latin fascinum and the related verb fascinare, “to use the power of the fascinus”.

The Fascinus is the roman embodiment of the divine penis.

So fascinating means “Check out my awesome dong.”

The doctor was wrong, and accepting what she did is really dangerous— it basically says that anyone whose got an illness or is dealing with a medical issue isn’t suitable for high office. Obesity is a health risk. Saying that there’s ‘no safe level’ is a silly way of saying that. But that’s what it is— a risk.

If we actually want to parse our candidates in terms of how likely they are to die, we need a lot more info than just their weight.

Within 17 minutes, Panetta said, an unarmed, unmanned surveillance aircraft was dispatched to give U.S. officials a better idea of what was happening. It arrived at the site about 70 minutes after the attack, he said.

Soon, Panetta and Dempsey met with President Barack Obama, the secretary told lawmakers.

Obama ordered that the Defense Department respond to the attack with “all available DOD assets” and try to protect U.S. personnel, Panetta said.

What more does McCain & his groupies want?

Also Graham, I’m guessing intentionally, ignored/blurred what General Dempsey said, which was that it was two, distinct, twenty minute battles, at the consulate & then the annex, and not a continuous eight hour assault.

HB 291, the “Missouri Standard Science Act,” redefines a few things you thought you already knew about science. For example, a “hypothesis” is redefined as something that reflects a “minority of scientific opinion and is “philosophically unpopular.” A scientific theory is “an inferred explanation…whose components are data, logic and faith-based philosophy.” And “destiny” is not something that $5 fortune tellers believe in; Instead, it’s “the events and processes that define the future of the universe, galaxies, stars, our solar system, earth, plant life, animal life, and the human race.”

Like cigarette smoking, there is no safe level of obesity.

Sitting in a chair more than 6 hours a day is a health risk too.

Even if they exercised, women who sat six or more hours a day were 37 percent more likely to die over a 13-year period than people who sat less than three hours a day, the study said. And men who sat more than six hours a day had an 18 percent higher risk of death over a 13-year period than men who sat three or fewer hours a day.

The death risk was even higher for people who don’t work out. The least active women in the study who also reported the highest amount of sitting were 94 percent more likely to die than those who said they sat the least and exercised the most. For men, it was 48 percent, the study said.

Wow, I just watched the video Dan Rather made for his Reddit “Ask Me Anything” session. He says:

“Any number of people, powerful people, for their own personal, ideological and partisan political reasons, didn’t like the fact that the story got out, and we were the first to put it on television … and they sought to discredit it.”

It’s nice that Dan Rather thinks I’m powerful, but my part in exposing those fraudulent documents was not about politics, it was about exposing a blatant, obvious fraud being perpetrated on the American public.

And he’s still clinging to the “fake but accurate” line too. The problem is that without specific evidence about specific offenses, the story that Bush received preferential treatment in the TANG was only borderline interesting.

I mean, a powerful person’s son gets preferential treatment?! Who’s ever heard of that happening?

What might have made Rather’s story an election-changer was the specific nature of the allegations, based on the Killian memos. And those were … faked.

So what’s this claim now that a preacher at a prayer breakfast delivered some “epic smackdown” to Obama, who responded by looking all uppity and arrogant and disrespectful to a man’o’th’cloth?

New one on me, but I’d be willing to bet that it’ll be a debunked rumor on Snopes shortly.

EDIT: Found a link, but it’s a Washington Times story that uses Twitchy.com as a source. Skepticism scan activated.

There are a lot of right wing bloggers and Twitter trolls who agree with Dan Rather that it was all about politics and ideology, because they seem to believe I’m ready to “apologize” to Dan Rather or retract my story, because I’m a recovering wingnut.

I think they were crowing about Dr. Carson talking about how we are too PC so people are afraid to speak, and mentioned the Merry Christmas thing, how people shouldn’t be afraid to say Merry Christmas, that it’s simply a salutation. *shrug*

According to the Washington Times article, Carson starts bellyaching about the deficit and says we should use biblical tithing as a model for taxes.

Because nothing says “fiscal responsibility” like basing your tax system on a book that features infanticide and talking animals.

Yeah, I’m on that part right now. Not sure how this constitutes a “smackdown.” He’s throwing out some ideas of his own. I guess in wingnut minds, anyone who doesn’t agree with the way things are currently being done equals “SMACKDOWN - YEAH!11!”

Earlier today, we posted a clip of Bryan Fischer attacking President Obama for supposedly being “filled with arrogance” pride and hubris for believing that he knows better than God when it comes to issues like reproductive choice and marriage equality.

On his program today, Fischer returned to the issue, this time declaring that Obama is an antichrist:

From the link, which is dated Jan 17, 2001 .

Bush concluded his speech on a note of healing and redemption.

“We as a people must stand united, banding together to tear this nation in two,” Bush said. “Much work lies ahead of us: The gap between the rich and the poor may be wide, be there’s much more widening left to do. We must squander our nation’s hard-won budget surplus on tax breaks for the wealthiest 15 percent. And, on the foreign front, we must find an enemy and defeat it.”

Move over pundits, you can all be replaced by staff writers for The Onion.

Buster Wilson Wonders if Obama Is Preparing the Military to ‘Fire on American Citizens’

Wilson claimed to have heard three anecdotal reports that the military under Obama is requiring personnel to affirm their willingness to “fire on American citizens,” including people resisting what Wilson believes is a looming gun ban.

Wilson also repeated his claim, which has been discredited time and time again, that Obama issued an executive order preparing the government to enforce martial law.

But since Wilson doesn’t have the courage to take complete ownership of his anti-government paranoia, he once again qualified his conspiracy theory with the weak cop-out that he’s “just asking the question.”

Maybe the “person” who told Wilson about the new military plan was the same one who sent him the hoax “Obama’s foreign student ID” photo.

Is it true Buster got his name from his days fornicating with livestock? I’m just asking questions.

It’ll be years before they and the base let this one go, won’t it? And all because Romney decided to go all in on politicizing it within hours of the attack, dragging the party into the muck along with him.

Romney flashback:

“I’m outraged by the attacks on American diplomatic missions in Libya and Egypt and by the death of an American consulate worker in Benghazi. It’s disgraceful that the Obama Administration’s first response was not to condemn attacks on our diplomatic missions, but to sympathize with those who waged the attacks.”

I am defending him. However, I don’t think that calling up the doctor and yelling at her is going to accomplish anything or is a good way to behave, either.

The doctor was wrong, and accepting what she did is really dangerous— it basically says that anyone whose got an illness or is dealing with a medical issue isn’t suitable for high office. I don’t agree with that. Teddy Roosevelt, for example, was overweight, asthmatic, and quite possibly manic-depressive, but who gives a shit, he was awesome.

congress once refused to fully fund the navy, so he sailed the fleet halfway around the world until they ran out of fuel. And congress ponied up the money to get them home.
