Lindsey Graham Threatens to Hold National Security Nominees Hostage Over Benghazi Fake Outrage

Demented GOP obstructionism to continue
Politics • Views: 22,220

Sen. Lindsey Graham has appointed himself the King of Republican Bad Craziness, pandering to the far right’s bizarre fantasies about the Benghazi attack with a relentless zeal that would be impressive if it were directed at something actually useful to the country. His latest threat: Lindsey Graham to Place Hold on National Security Nominees Over Benghazi Attacks.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) is threatening to place a hold on key administration national security nominations unless President Obama explains how the White House reacted to the Benghazi attacks and who “changed” the talking points used by U.N. ambassador Susan Rice during back-to-back appearances on the Sunday political talk shows in September.

Appearing on CBS’ Face the Nation, Graham insisted that Republicans shouldn’t “allow Brennan to go forward for the CIA directorship, Hagel to be confirmed to Secretary of Defense, until the White House gives us an accounting.”

Let’s face it, this is exactly what the Republican Party would do anyway, Benghazi or no Benghazi. It’s just the latest excuse to do everything in their power to sabotage Obama, whether it’s good for the US or not.

Imagine if the GOP took their energy and applied it to something good. Even if they were doing it from a ‘conservative’ position, just if they worked really hard on coming up with something of actual benefit.

Why am I not surprised by this?

The inmates have not only taken over the (GOP) asylum, the asylum staff now has Stockholm Syndrome.

Guess what Graham? We haven’t forgotten that 9/11, the WMD debacle and several major embassy attacks took place on Bush’s watch. Where are the investigations? We want an accounting.

The funny thing is it’s still not going to work.

Enjoy the primary defeat, Lindsey.

Graham in trouble with SC GOP base, Sanford has no support

February 08, 2011

With the GOP’s true believers, Senator Lindsey Graham has a reputation of being conciliatory toward the administration and working too often with Democrats and moderate Republicans. As such, while a 45% plurality of South Carolina Republican primary voters see his views as “about right,” an almost equal 42% view him as too liberal. Two-thirds of the state’s primary electorate label themselves conservative, and 53% of them see Graham as too liberal, while only 38% say “about right.”

They have been trying to sabotage Obama since Jan. 2009 and it HASN’T WORKED.

Why keep trying? They really should comprehend that Obama is the President whether they like it or not and it might, just MIGHT be a good idea to try and work with his administration on some things.

Otherwise, the GOP will go down in another blistering defeat in 2016, a loss which will probably cost them the House if they manage to keep it in 2014.

About that shipload of Iranian weapons a few days ago….
Iran and Hezbollah build militia networks in Syria in event that Assad falls, officials say

A senior Obama administration official sited Iranian claims that Tehran was backing as many as 50,000 militiamen in Syria. “It’s a big operation,” the official said. “The immediate intention seems to be to support the Syrian regime. But it’s important for Iran to have a force in Syria that is reliable and can be counted on.”

Iran’s strategy, a senior Arab official agreed, has two tracks. “One is to support Assad to the hilt, the other is to set the stage for major mischief if he collapses.”

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss intelligence matters.

Which is a reason why we shouldn’t send weapons to the rebels. Besides the Iranians, al-Qaeda is also fighting along side the rebels.

It’s a huge mess. I was surprised to see the estimate of 50,000 militia men. That’s a very sizable force.

I think they are still holding out hope of taking the Senate in 2014. There are 35 seats up for grabs, only 14 are currently held by Republicans, and unless Susan Collins decides to retire or Paul Broun is actually the nominee in Georgia, the GOP isn’t in danger of losing any of them.

OMG! Drones are coming for all of us!
Report: Ex-Cop Christopher Dorner Is Now a Target for Drones

Presumably, the drones looking for Dorner’s heat signature are unarmed. Presumably.

Should armed drones actually be authorized to fire on Dorner, then it would be a first, and frankly a terrifying precedent. And considering all the collateral damage that’s already happened, adding drone fire to the mix would be a horrible idea. Unmanned eyes in the sky could be the ticket to ending the week-long search, but you can’t unset a precedent.

Of course following the links doesn’t turn up a hint of a mention about armed drones, that’s from the imagination of the idiot from Gizmodo.

Drones aren’t really unmanned, either.

Perhaps they should have gerbils duct taped to the top of them to point that out.

Now that Obama has no more elections to run for, I really, really want ot see him in a SOTU address just begin naming names. “Senator Graham….where are you senator? Senator Graham has put this country’s security at peril so that he can score some cheap political points in his reelection bid. Senator, I’m asking you as the commander in chief, stop what amounts to a treasonous attack upon the people that you are here to serve. Stop obstructing me from getting the people in place who can get our brave men and women out of harm’s way…”

The South Carolina lawmaker made the threat Sunday on CBS, using the phrase “no confirmation without information” in vowing to put a hold on the nominations of both John Brennan and Chuck Hagel unless the Obama administration provides more information about the Benghazi attack.

Previously, Graham had vowed to put a hold on Hagel’s nomination unless outgoing Defense Secretary Leon Panetta testified before Congress on the Benghazi attacks. Panetta testified last week before the Senate Armed Services Committee, saying that without direct warning or advance intelligence of the September 11, 2012, attack, there was no way for the military to respond in time.
