For any kind of criticism of John McCain to have any effectaffect on him, he’d have to have a conscience. And one thing John McCain has gone through great pains to demonstrate since 2008 over anything else, is the complete absence of a conscience.

I think you were right the first time. Effect is the noun, affect is the verb.*
* Exceptions, of course, apply, but this is a good rule of thumb.
A handy reminder. I had to look this up recently because my adviser didn’t like my use of the word “impact” and wanted me to use “effect” which I had been avoiding because of this reason.

OH FOR FUCKING FUCKS FUCKING SAKE!
Gohmert: Voters need ‘at least 50 rounds’ in magazines to take out drones
During Thursday interview on Freedom 107 radio, host Jeff Akin asked the Texas Republican how he felt about using unnamed aerial drones for domestic law enforcement.
“It’s pretty offensive to most of us,” Gohmert opined. “Most of us think if you’re going to use a drone and fly over our homes to analyze what’s going on in our backyard — not a lot of talk’s been given — but if you can fly over in the backyard, you can use all kinds of technology to see what’s happening inside the home as well. And I know there’s been a judge, and this former judge sure thinks you ought to have a warrant to do that kind of thing.”
“But I had somebody last week in Washington from either Georgia or Alabama that was saying, ‘Look, this goes back to we have got to have at least 50 rounds in our magazines because on average that’s about how many it takes to bring down a drone.’ I hope he was kidding, I don’t know for sure.”

I’ve ended up with mixed feelings about it because my grandfather described himself first and foremost as a patriot, where you define patriot as love for your country. He served in the military for 20 years, civil service for 20 more. Two wars. I truly believe that he really believed in the ideals of America and was willing to put his life on the line for them.
But he was also very Republican, with all that entails. We didn’t talk politics much (or religion) because I enjoyed actually being able to talk to my grandparents.
He died on July 4th three years ago this year. It seems rather fitting.

Mississippi Newspaper Defends Publishing Story About ‘Historic’ Same-Sex Wedding
Many of the calls I received had the caller stating something to the effect, “I don’t need my children to read this.” Ugh. We have stories about child molesters, murders and all kinds of vicious, barbaric acts of evil committed by heinous criminals on our front page and yet we never receive a call from anyone saying, “I don’t need my child reading this.” Never. Ever. However, a story about two women exchanging marriage vows and we get swamped with people worried about their children. […]
You have a right to believe whatever you want. We weren’t trying to change your mind about that. We were simply reporting the story to the best of our ability. We are also happy to report the other side, too. We have run numerous letters that have attacked gay marriage in the LL-C since that story ran.
However, I can’t help but be saddened by the hate-filled, viciousness of many of the comments directed toward our staff.

Yeah, but in those 66% are my good friends, the vaunted independents. Otherwise known as the fucking idiots who can’t or won’t see what a freak show the GOP has become, and will vote for them nonetheless.
All this talk about the GOP on the verge of fracturing or extinction makes my eyes bleed. It’s like everyone’s forgotten 2010. I fully expect the GOP to make a bit of a comeback in 2014, more so if the economy is still flat.
Mainly the American voter is so uninformed that there willing to overlook how radical Republicans have become.
The polls we see would be great…if the election polls reflected them. As is, I full expect half, if not more of those in that 66% who agree with Obama won’t even bother showing up at the polls come next year.

A chicken in every pot.An AR-15 under every bed.
Need something to make the chicken nuggets. Which I imagine is all that would be left if you shot a chicken with an AR-15.

The Morning Plum: On issues, GOP is badly out of step with America
No, you don’t get it: America is badly out of step with the GOP.
We don’t deserve a party that cares so much for America that it is willing to ignore a majority of its voters to maintain its ideological purity.

Rohrabacher’s interest in Afghanistan extends back at least to the late 80s, before his time in office, when he entered the country in the company of mujahedin fighters who were intent on confronting Soviet occupation forces. Reportedly, these fighters “actually engaged Soviet troops in combat near the city of Jalalabad during the two months Rohrabacher was with them.”[25] According to eyewitnesses during this time he met Osama Bin Laden, his Arab fighters and also the homicidal terrorist, Afghan mujahideen leader Gulbuddin Hekmatyar. He called them “great freedom fighters and his friends, who are fighting the same war as America to liberate world from the “fatal plague of communism”.
….Yeah, did so much to help defeat…wait..what…

To hold, therefore, that there is no difference in matters of religion between forms that are unlike each other, and even contrary to each other, most clearly leads in the end to the rejection of all religion in both theory and practice. And this is the same thing as atheism, however it may differ from it in name. [Pope Leo XIII, Immortale Dei, 1885]

re: #50 Dr. Matt
For people who constantly proclaim themselves to be “Patriots”, conservatives sure spend a hell of a lot of time fantasizing about killing fellow Americans and having an armed civil war.
Funny how we don’t call the secesh of 1861-1865 “Patriots.” We call them “Losers.”
