Never been big on St. Patrick’s day celebrations. Somewhat surprising as I am half Irish.

My wife and I met on St. Patty’s day and treat it as equivalent to our wedding anniversary.

One of my most fun experiences ever was a whim trip to NYC for St. Patty’s day. My friend had to work so I just walked and walked to St. Patrick’s Cathedral and drank with all the others on the wall.

Then the evening. It was rather crazy. Excellent memory.

Dollard/Dullard would not approve:

A Sea-change in Attitudes

A group of Israeli historians and archaeologists is calling for a radical rethink in the way the region’s past is viewed. They want a stronger focus on Palestine’s Islamic eras, which have in the past been neglected in favour of its Jewish history.

In case you hadn’t heard, Bill O’ is writing a book on … Jesus… yes, that Je$u$, from whom a never ending stream of money-making opportunities exist:

Bill O’Reilly and the Polarizing Political Figure of Jesus

[…]

So am I concerned about O’Reilly’s foray into historical Jesus studies? Oh, god yes. I’m terrified. But I’m terrified because of the way lay people and politicians will continue to construe and deconstruct the Jesus we have–even as unstable and contradictory an individual as he may be–and scholarship will continue to remain within a relatively isolated community of experts. In other words, books by the Bill O’Reillys and the Clint Willises (author of Jesus Is Not a Republican) of the world are the only books on Jesus that anyone will read. Because they will be the only books available and accessible.

Besides, broadcasters and talking heads don’t have the facts straight when it comes to their actual jobs (reporting the news). Bill O’Reilly can’t seem to figure out how what causes the tide, so just how well do you think he’ll do getting the historical Jesus right? Keep in mind, scholars can’t even seem to figure it out entirely–and they’ve spent their professional career trying to find answers. I’m betting that O’Reilly will not produce a very accurate picture.

He [O’Reilly] is already imaging Jesus much like how he views himself, a “beloved and controversial young revolutionary” who is constantly persecuted, but who fights for what that which he believes. It is a stunning pseudo-autobiographical portrayal of Jesus through O’Reilly’s eyes. And had O’Reilly been trained in the field, he would know that Bultmann pointed out this troublesome factor of historical Jesus scholarship decades ago. But O’Reilly isn’t a scholar, nor even an educated layman on the subject; he is a pundit on a news network with an agenda (like all politicians and political-pundits). That is precisely the problem.

Good ol’ Zeb still ringing the waters:

WWE’s Zeb Colter, Jack Swagger causing quite the mainstream stir

[…]

WWE Monday Night Raw commentators Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler joked that Colter and Swagger receive “fan mail” from conservative radio talk show hosts Glenn Beck, Alex Jones and Rush Limbaugh.

Though it is a scripted angle on a television show — something WWE’s been doing for decades — Beck criticized WWE and its fan base for this latest storyline.

WWE extended an invitation to the talk show host and political commentator to appear live this Monday on Raw (8 p.m. EST, USA Network) in response to the Beck segment that aired on TheBlaze TV on Thursday. According to WWE, in the segment, Beck references WWE as “stupid wrestling people,” when criticizing that recent WWE storyline involving Del Rio, Colter and Swagger.

[…]

Ironically, the name Colter is similar to Coulter as in Ann Coulter, a real-life outspoken conservative who has supported the Tea Party (sometimes).

Coulter, a well-known political pundit, was anti-Linda McMahon during her run for Senate in Connecticut. McMahon, the wife of WWE Chairman Vince McMahon, was a high ranking executive with WWE before venturing into the political arena.

Ann Coulter is an outspoken conservative who can rile a crowd. Zeb Colter is an outspoken conservative who can rile a crowd.

Zeb Colter also has some Ted Nugent tendencies. Nugent, a rock-n-roll musician, is another strong conservative, who when bearded Colter resembles. Isn’t Nugent a WWE fan?

[…]

AFAIK, Beck has turned down the WWE offer.
