Washington Post Wingnut Jennifer Rubin: Why Was Michelle Obama at the Oscars?

Something haywire in their heads
Wingnuts • Views: 28,421

Come on, Washington Post, what are you doing? This latest propaganda blog post by Jennifer Rubin is just a disgrace: Why Was Michelle Obama at the Oscars?

Rubin’s brain-dead right wing talking point of the day has a simple answer: because she was invited by the Academy to present the Best Picture award. There. Was that so hard?

Oh wait … we’re still angry?

It is not enough that President Obama pops up at every sporting event in the nation. Now the first lady feels entitled, with military personnel as props, to intrude on other forms of entertaining (this time for the benefit of the Hollywood glitterati who so lavishly paid for her husband’s election). I’m sure the left will holler that once again conservatives are being grouchy and have it in for the Obamas. Seriously, if they really had their president’s interests at heart, they’d steer away from encouraging these celebrity appearances. It makes both the president and the first lady seem small and grasping. In this case, it was just downright weird.

There’s something weird here, all right — the weird wingnut thought process that leads to seriously messed up sentences like these.

Get a life, Jennifer Rubin.

(Read the comments for this disgraceful article for some pretty pointed mockery and criticism of Rubin’s clumsy agitprop.)

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, seeing the President and First Lady as human beings is verboten. The idea that they have likes and interests the same as the rest of us? Inconceivable!

Greg Sargent’s op-ed posted downstairs noted that the GOP is openly acting as if the election didn’t happen, as if everything that Obama ran on and got reelected to enact doesn’t matter. And I think that’s more an outgrowth of their base at this point, who as this incident demonstrates, dissolve into rage-induced screaming over any indication that their little fantasy that they really won the election is a lie.

re: #24 Single-handed sailor

5 years after the Civil War ended?

Established by military officers who were tired of soldiers who couldn’t hit the broadside of the barn:

Union Army records for the Civil War indicate that its troops fired about 1,000 rifle shots for each Confederate soldier hit, causing General Burnside to lament his recruits: “Out of ten soldiers who are perfect in drill and the manual of arms, only one knows the purpose of the sights on his gun or can hit the broad side of a barn.”[12] The generals attributed this to the use of volley tactics, devised for earlier, less accurate smoothbore muskets.[13][14]

Recognizing a need for better training, Wingate traveled to Europe and observed European armies’ marksmanship training programs. With plans provided by Wingate, the New York Legislature funded the construction of a modern range at Creedmore, Long Island, for long-range shooting competitions. Wingate then wrote a marksmanship manual.[12]

After winning the British Empire championship at Wimbledon, London, in 1874, the Irish Rifle Team issued a challenge through the New York Herald to riflemen of the United States to raise a team for a long-range match to determine an Anglo-American championship. The NRA organized a team through a subsidiary amateur rifle club. Remington Arms and Sharps Rifle Manufacturing Company produced breech-loading weapons for the team. Although muzzle-loading rifles had long been considered more accurate, eight American riflemen won the match firing breech-loading rifles. Publicity of the event generated by the New York Herald helped to establish breech-loading firearms as suitable for military marksmanship training, and promoted the NRA to national prominence.[12]

We have liftoff.

This is a nifty technique I’m using to do this - when you post the comment if it finds a link to a Hulu video page, the LGF code reads in that page from Hulu and parses the HTML <meta> tags in its head section to extract the embedded video information. It’s actually looking at the Facebook Open Graph tags, to be even more specific.

It only needs to read the info once, when the comment is posted. If you edit your comment you’ll see the HTML it generates, which looks a little odd because it has embedded metadata.

It is not enough that President Obama pops up at every sporting event in the nation.

I had no idea this was going on. Every sporting event? Was PBO at the Ronda Rousey fight this weekend? Every basketball game? Every hockey game? I don’t know how the hell he can keep pulling this off once baseball starts. I’d find the topic very hard to believe if it wasn’t coming from Jen Rubin. She’s such a non-bi-partisan, straight shooter, there’s no way she’s just spouting hyperbole. So, it must be truthy. ///

Those would be the freedom-loving jackholes who drape themselves in the battle flag of the Confederacy without irony.

And not just irony about the slavery. Also about how the South even before the secession movement got rolling routinely violated the civil liberties of anybody suspected of abolitionist activities, and were pretty much a police state that went through your mail, spied on civilian dissidents.

The right wing rage grows exponentially in the echo chamber web sites. They are Petri dishes for the bacteria of hate. The extremists look around and see the other microbes just like them and they get the impression their strain must be taking the whole world over.

Then they try running that shit on their Facebook page and at work and their friends and family say, jeesh, there goes that raging asshole again.. It just exposes the wingnuts as a bunch of unhinged loons and chases away more people from their cause than it attracts.

111 Shiplord Kirel  Mon, Feb 25, 2013 7:10:21pm

Hi gang,
I was stuck in the snow for 5 hours earlier today, after getting virtually no sleep during the night. This was on I-27 north of Lubbock. The road is still closed as I write this. I was trying to rush home so I could get to sleep ahead of the storm. I have never seen anything remotely like it in this part of the country. It wasn’t particularly cold (28) but the wind blew constantly at 55-60 mph, creating a literal white out. The Highway Patrol said they could send an ambulance if I were having cardiac problems or in danger of hypothermia, but not otherwise. I wasn’t able to sleep in the truck because of the rocking and the howling from the wind. I finally got going and got home in a daze. I just woke up.
I have a good emergency kit in the truck, with food, blankets, instant coffee and a little 12 volt heating element. I had always had doubts about the necessity for it, but not anymore.

To answer Rubin’s question, though:

1. Michelle was invited and she wanted to go.
2. Like other First Ladies, she has taken on the job of promoting worthwhile endeavors.
3. The movie industry, in turn, is worthwhile as a major source of export cash and therefore of employment in this country.

112 lawhawk  Mon, Feb 25, 2013 7:10:30pm

Prattling paroxysm of rage. That’s all the rwnjs have left. It’s what keeps them warm at night.

And their arguments don’t even make sense. They think that Obama’s a Marxist for showing up and accepting an invite to present at the Oscars, which is capitalism at the core - where every aspect of the show is designed to maximize the profits for the companies and individuals behind the films. It’s conspicuous consumption on the red carpet.

It’s anything but Marxism, but they’re on a roll - so they keep going on and on about it.

And when that isn’t enough, they go off on personal attacks, complaining about FLOTUS’ appearance or anything else.

This is America:

A rare glimpse into a survivalist ‘militia’

American photographer Brian Blanco gained rare access to a group of survivalists in Florida. The North Florida Survival Group trains children and adults alike to handle weapons and survive in the wild. The group passionately supports the right of U.S. citizens to bear arms and its website states that it aims to teach “patriots to survive in order to protect and defend our Constitution against all enemy threats.” In December, Mr. Blanco spent a day photographing the group. It was six days before the Sandy Hook school shooting in Newtown, Conn. He wrote about the photo shoot in his blog.

[…]

“When I first got into this, I thought I’d never have to use these skills in my lifetime, but we as citizens have a duty to defend the Constitution,” Foster said. “Now it looks like groups like ours are going to be called up to defend the Constitution even if it means using force.

The government is trying to disarm us,” Jim said.

“There weren’t enough dead bodies to do it before, but now they’ve got the bodies of 26 dead kids and I’m afraid that’s enough for them to get what they want,” he said, referring to the 20 children and six adults who were shot at Sandy Hook.

My favorite Stacy McCain joke from back in the day:

R.S. McCain is walking along the beach, when he finds a bottle in the sand. He opens the bottle and a genie appears! “You are my master, and I am here to grant you 3 wishes!”

Oh boy! This is my lucky day! Stacy McCain says to the genie, “I want to go back in time to 1861!”

“It shall be granted!” said the genie.

“And I want the South to win!”

“Done!”

“And I want to live on a big plantation!”

“Your wish is my command!” The genie claps his hands and disappears in a puff of smoke. Stacy McCain finds himself standing in the middle of a cotton field. He is wearing coarse clothes, and has a bag of cotton bolls around his neck. He feels the whip of the overseer!

“Hey wait!” says McCain but he hears the voice of the genie: “I gave you 3 wishes SUCKER and I didn’t hear you say you wanted to be a white man!”

The Final Fantasy VIII Ultimania[1] explains that Ellone’s ability to connect to the mind of another, is a same kind of process as when a person junctions a Guardian Force; one’s consciousness can’t be connected to another without an intermediary with a special ability - a Guardian Force, Ellone herself, or the Junction Machine Ellone.

Apparently, Ellone is some sort of mortal Demigod. Who has significant control over time.

Which actually creates a really interesting question in Final Fantasy 8. Who in the hell were her parents?

Rather odd how that works. The Supreme Court identifies limits on the 1st - the plain language of which is unrestricted (including for defamation, obscenity, pornography, fighting words, etc.), and he’s perfectly fine with that, but ignores that the same Supreme Court has ruled that reasonable restrictions are constitutional and claims that there’s no way anyone can even claim to restrict firearms access, even when the plain language indicates restriction.

It’s cognitive dissonance, but that’s part and parcel of the right wingers.

He’s doomed. As for CPAC. No Christie, no gays. I wonder if they’ll invite the VDARE racists again.

Think CPAC is becoming less significant for who does show up and more significant for who’s getting the door slammed in their face.

My mother informed us the other day that she’s possibly going to be part of that 800K, meaning she’d be only working four days a week for the rest of the year. Which means more belt-tightening ‘round the house, less money to spend, and more economic contraction.

I’m expecting something similar. My irritation is… considerable.

Party of personal responsibility refuses to pay me for work for which they contracted me, film at 11 oops j/k we can’t afford film

Ayep. But you can be sure that they’ll expect her to put in the same level of work, to meet the same deadlines they’ve already set, and will penalize her if the 8 hours of work she’s no longer able to do weekly causes her to fall behind.

Eight? Hah.

Would you like to guess the last Saturday I wasn’t in the office?

Start with the year.

Hell, in her case 8 hours is conservative. She works at the local naval hospital doing inventory work and can spend weeks on end work 3-4 hours overtime just to get everything tracked down, scanned, entered into the database, and anything not found or new properly accounted for. And being a hospital, if she’s supposed to be working in a high-traffic area, like an ER, then she might be waiting hours for a room to be clear for her to get in there and everything sorted out.

Anybody who thinks that public sector employees get cushy, no-hassle jobs with Cadillac benefits and no sense of work ethic have no fucking clue what they’re talking about.

Little Mitt Romney,
Went to a CPAC,
Eating his words and hay;
A racist cracked a hymn,
And sang it beside him,
And frightened Mitt Romney away.

I’m sure the people of Texas will be happy to be rid of him for awhile. Last I heard, his prospects for reelection are not looking pretty.

I would love to see Goodhair bounced out on his ass. I’m tired of hearing about him.

I hope that Julian Castro runs for governor. That would be awesome. I’d totally volunteer for his campaign.

Voice of reason speaks up, tells wingnuts that they cannot have a path forward by stewing in their own bass-ackwardness. Wingnuts respond that the problem is not that they’re bass-ackwards, it’s that everybody else doesn’t think like them.

All men are born of a woman.

Precisely. The favored trick of the left in this area is to posit the behavior as ‘natural’ - as if that ends the question of the behavior’s moral content, or biological inadequacy.

Wut?

“Meanwhile, the active, purposeful decision to leave it out in the cold gives the Left — see Chris Hayes — a cudgel with which to beat the Right for its implied intolerance. And unlike, say, the mythic “war on women,” they will kind of have a point.”

He’s been reporting on the story:

There was a minor dustup when GOProud was asked to move along at last year’s conference after the group had served as a sponsor in the previous two years, and the story has been given fresh oxygen by progressive MSNBC host Chris Hayes, who said that he would accept an invitation to appear on a CPAC panel (opposite Ralph Reed) only if GOProud were welcomed back into the fold. Though I don’t agree with Hayes on much, he’s right on this one. Here are five reasons why.[Link: www.nationalreview.com…]

Thinking about RS McCain’s gross attempt to bully someone who said something nice about me, I remembered that a lot of our best commenters at LGF have also been targets for this kind of harassment.

And I want to say thanks. I really appreciate those of you who’ve stuck through all the changes and continued to contribute valuable info and opinions at LGF despite the many attempts to bully you into silence.

I couldn’t give two shits about what any of them say to me. Actually they leave me alone mostly because after one or two zingers they give up and block me so their “followers” won’t have to watch. ha.

I didn’t hear the wingnuts complaining when Nancy Reagan was on Diff’rent Strokes, or Betty Ford was on Mary Tyler Moore.
