Bob Woodward’s Disgraceful Lies About White House “Threats”

Woodward throws away his remaining credibility to pander to the crazy right
Politics • Views: 34,765

When I went to bed last night, Bob Woodward was on record claiming that he had been “threatened” by a senior official in the Obama White House, for his statements on the origin of the sequestration deal.

Today Politico published the email exchange between Woodward and Obama’s economic adviser Gene Sperling, and there was no threat. In fact, the emails are amazingly cordial, and Woodward himself clearly understood this and responded with no indication at all that he felt “threatened:” Exclusive: The Woodward, Sperling Emails Revealed.

From Gene Sperling to Bob Woodward on Feb. 22, 2013

Bob:

I apologize for raising my voice in our conversation today. My bad. I do understand your problems with a couple of our statements in the fall — but feel on the other hand that you focus on a few specific trees that gives a very wrong perception of the forest. But perhaps we will just not see eye to eye here.

But I do truly believe you should rethink your comment about saying saying that Potus asking for revenues is moving the goal post. I know you may not believe this, but as a friend, I think you will regret staking out that claim. The idea that the sequester was to force both sides to go back to try at a big or grand barain with a mix of entitlements and revenues (even if there were serious disagreements on composition) was part of the DNA of the thing from the start. It was an accepted part of the understanding — from the start. Really. It was assumed by the Rs on the Supercommittee that came right after: it was assumed in the November-December 2012 negotiations. There may have been big disagreements over rates and ratios — but that it was supposed to be replaced by entitlements and revenues of some form is not controversial. (Indeed, the discretionary savings amount from the Boehner-Obama negotiations were locked in in BCA: the sequester was just designed to force all back to table on entitlements and revenues.)

I agree there are more than one side to our first disagreement, but again think this latter issue is diffferent. Not out to argue and argue on this latter point. Just my sincere advice. Your call obviously.

My apologies again for raising my voice on the call with you. Feel bad about that and truly apologize.

Gene

Folks, that is absolutely not a “threat,” in any sense of the word. It’s a disagreement. And Woodward knew this.

From Woodward to Sperling on Feb. 23, 2013

Gene: You do not ever have to apologize to me. You get wound up because you are making your points and you believe them. This is all part of a serious discussion. I for one welcome a little heat; there should more given the importance. I also welcome your personal advice. I am listening. I know you lived all this. My partial advantage is that I talked extensively with all involved. I am traveling and will try to reach you after 3 pm today. Best, Bob

But here’s how Woodward portrayed the email to Politico last night:

Woodward repeated the last sentence, making clear he saw it as a veiled threat. ” ‘You’ll regret.’ Come on,” he said. “I think if Obama himself saw the way they’re dealing with some of this, he would say, ‘Whoa, we don’t tell any reporter ‘you’re going to regret challenging us.’”

It’s really unbelievable that a journalist with Bob Woodward’s reputation would try to pull something so obviously fraudulent. He clearly took no offense at all from Sperling’s email at the time — why should he? There’s nothing threatening about it. But then he went to the press and made these wild claims about threats, even though he must have known the emails would come out and prove him a liar.

What a disgrace.

Meanwhile, the dead-enders at breitbart.com are still stupidly hyping Woodward’s obviously false claim, of course, with the usual “angry black man” photo carefully chosen to infuriate their knuckle-dragging followers, and a huge honking typo in the first sentence: WOODWARD EMAILS BACK CLAIM OF WHITE HOUSE INTIMIDATION!!!

Absolutely pitiful. This is why breitbart.com has become such a laughingstock — they lie about President Obama even when the truth is plainly obvious.

What’s maddening to me is that this story seems to be getting more coverage than the backass backwards position on the Voting Rights Act that many of our Supreme Court justices seem to have.

It’s looking more and more like both Woodward and Politico have egg on their faces. Woodward for reading excerpts of emails as if they were part of some spittle-flecked angry rant against him and emphasizing the “regret” bit while trying to pump up his own ego by saying he wouldn’t fall for something a younger reporter might, and Politico for taking their own subtext (“threat”) and running with it.

He was perfectly aware about how he was being covered. Check out the title of his CNN interview:

Bob Woodward on _threat_ from White House staff: “…it makes me very uncomfortable to have the White House telling reporters, you’re going to regret doing something that you believe in”

BLITZER: What was said? Yes.

WOODWARD: It was said very clearly, you will regret doing this.

BLITZER: Who sent that e-mail to you?

WOODWARD: Well, I’m not going to say.

BLITZER: Was it a senior person at the White House?

WOODWARD: A very senior person. And just as a matter - I mean, it makes me very uncomfortable to have the White House telling reporters, you’re going to regret doing something that you believe in. And even though we don’t look at it that way, you do look at it that way. And I think if Barack Obama knew that was part of the communication’s strategy - let’s hope it’s not a strategy, but it’s a tactic that somebody’s employed, and said, look, we don’t go around trying to say to reporters, if you, in an honest way, present something we don’t like, that, you know, you’re going to regret this.

Conservatives Regret Taking Woodward’s ‘Threat’ Story Seriously

Now that the correspondence between Bob Woodward and the White House has been revealed as tame and cordial, conservative commentators are reacting with disappointment to the veteran journalist’s claim that he was threatened over his sequestration reporting.

Politico on Thursday posted the emails between Woodward and White House economic adviser Gene Sperling, who told Woodward, “as a friend, I think you will regret staking out that claim.”

“Looks like we were played,” The Daily Caller’s Matt Lewis wrote Thursday morning.

RedState editor Erick Erickson was also surprised after reading the emails:

“But suppose there’s a young reporter who’s only had a couple of years — or 10 years’ — experience and the White House is sending him an email saying, ‘You’re going to regret this.’ You know, tremble, tremble. I don’t think it’s the way to operate.”

It’s hard to find an interpretation of ‘tremble, tremble’ that doesn’t imply there’s a threat there.

From what he’s telling WaPo, he’ll go on there tonight and whine that he didn’t really see it as a “threat” per say, but rather that it was the White House trying to “silence him” through intimidation and Hannity suggesting that the drubbing he’s taken today in the press is because the “liberal media” has become Obama’s attack dogs and are mindlessly savaging Woodward instead of getting irate at this “unconstitutional” attack on freedom of the press.

34 Gus  Thu, Feb 28, 2013 10:34:52am

Texas school worker shot during district-sponsored gun training

“At the conclusion of the CHL training on February 27, 2013, one certified person stayed for private instruction with the instructor and had a mechanical malfunction with his weapon,” Van Independent School District said in a statement. “With the assistance of the instructor, the malfunction was addressed, but the gun misfired and the bullet ricocheted coming back to strike the VISD employee in the left leg.”

“The VISD employee was attended to at the scene and transferred to Tyler for further treatment. The injury is not life threatening or disabling. Because of privacy and security issues we cannot make any further statement.”

To be fair to him, this is partially semantics. What he is saying is that it was an attempt at a threat, but he’s also saying that a putative younger reporter would be the one to be influenced by it, he is above such things. But it’s still an accusation that the dude threatened him.

“I was threatened, but I wasn’t threatened by the threats he threatened me with”, is, bizarrely, a coherent English sentence.

Gun owner fires at Walmart shoplifter to ‘mark’ him for police

As unarmed 42-year-old Eddie McKee allegedly ran from an Orange City Walmart with stolen merchandise, 35-year-old Jose Martinez pulled out his gun and fired at least five bullets, according to WKMG.

“I saw one black gentleman running from the parking lot, he dove in his car,” a caller told 911. “And there were two older gentlemen chasing him down. One drew a gun, ripped open the guys car door and screamed, ‘Freeze, freeze, don’t move!’ And then fired shots.”

Bullets riddled McKee’s vehicle, hitting the trunk and shattering the back window. Two other cars were also hit by gunfire.

Martinez told WKMG that he was shocked that police arrested him because he thought no one other than the shoplifter was in danger. He said he just wanted to mark the man’s car for police.

Yeah but this is how simpleton Fischer thinks. One factoid of a big puzzle = everything. As you point out, they’ve been in a nosedive for years but Fischer just sees less sales and the fact that Ellen DeGeneres did an ad for them, and he has causation. It’s the same stupid approach he uses with gays and the Nazis. Some Nazis were gay. Nazis were bad. Therefore it’s okay to discriminate against gays. Of course, the logic is never consistent because one could use the same logic on heterosexual Christians and there were a lot more of them in the Third Reich than there were pagan gays.

Penney’s and Macy’s used to be the same, then Macy’s went for the upscale customers and Penney’s was left to slug it out with Target. JCP and Target are still higher class than Walmart.

These two (Woodward and Davis) are longtime animals of D.C. and can withstand these attacks. But for the other 99.9999999999999999999% of the press corps, they can’t. They can be and are being played (pressured & manipulated, most likely willingly).
Sounds like Nazi Germany tactics.

Both the nazis and the communist used the same
tactics, just in various degrees.

Identify your enemy-republicans are the enemy
of the people-The commies identified Jews and “capitalists” as
enemies of the people. Don’t the libs
and oblamer also hate the capitalists?

Claim they are the reason for all your
problems-It’s all the republicans fault for the sequester. Mein Kampf (oblamer’s favorite pick-me-up
book)

Point out “obvious
characteristics” (usually useless tidbits like the shape of your nose or
other physical characteristics) of your enemy- they are all racist “baggers”.
Josef Goebbels ring a bell?

Tell the people that to hate and attack the
enemy is ok-FOX News should be taken off the air because they “attack”
dear leader, get hollywierd to do info spots telling you how evil conservatism
is. Nazi and communist propaganda flicks
were created on a weekly basis during the war years.

Ridicule any attempt by your enemy to
defend themselves-MiG you are paranoid and should not be allowed to post hate
speech, you all want to through granny from the cliff, make us drink poisoned
water, deny poor people the vote by making them follow the law…you baggers! The nazis claimed Jews were born liars and
laughed out of court all attempts they made to prove their innocence-until it
no longer mattered.

Deny your enemy rights-NO GUNS FOR YOU, and
your voter registration mysteriously disappeared, you dirty baggers. Weren’t businesses and property taken from
Jews by permission of the nazi government?
The commies claimed everything was the property of the people, yet food
lines stretched for blocks and no one owned anything of real value.

Round up your enemies for easy
“disposal”-register your weapon… aw never mind, we’ll have the
newspaper print your name and address and have the people hound you out of
town…you bitter clingers. Ever hear of
a gulag or a concentration camp?

Dunno about that. We’ve still got both stores around here. If they merged, they’re still both operating under their own brands.

Operating as their own brands but Kmart and Sears are owned by Sears Holdings Corp. Kmart purchased Sears in 2004.

I used to shop at Penney’s all the time, but then I found that Target had all the same stuff cheaper.

I would still go to Penney’s for furniture, but that’s not the kind of thing that you buy every day.

Penney’s and Macy’s used to be the same, then Macy’s went for the upscale customers and Penney’s was left to slug it out with Target. JCP and Target are still higher class than Walmart.

Anybody still go to KMart? I think Walmart ran over them too.

Target isn’t alone in taking over the market segment. In fact I think Kohls is closer in market segment to, and is reason that no one shops at either, Kmart, Sears, or Penney’s. Kohls has competitive pricing, frequent sales, and decent selection of housewares.

Kmart became a second string sales source for Sears stuff. And all the old problems that Kmart had it still has, along with Sears’ ongoing problems.

Minnesota Republican Legislator: Homosexuality Is A ‘Sexual Addiction’ And An ‘Unscientific Lie’

At a press conference held by Republican opponents of marriage equality, Gruenhagen explained his view:

GRUENHAGEN: When we’re talking about gay marriage, we’re not talking about an immutable characteristic like the color of your skin. Okay? The human genome map was completed in 2003. There is no gay gene. Okay? So the concept that you’re born that way and it’s an immutable characteristic is an unscientific lie.

During a speech at the Wetumpka Tea Party, Elois Zeanah of the Alabama Federation of Republican Women compared the adoption of Common Core to the indoctrination of children in Nazi Germany, with President Obama teaching children and imposing an “anti-Christian, anti-capitalism, anti-America…pro-homosexuality, illegal immigration, unions, environmentalism, gun control, feminism and social justice” curriculum.

Wasn’t that the whole goal of the sequester? To force both sides to come to a compromise on something like this?

Of course, it’s hard to compromise when one side refuses to talk, which is why we’re at where we are now, but. Does he really think that the proposal from the supercommittee should have involved only spending cuts because that’s what was in the sequester?

135 lawhawk  Thu, Feb 28, 2013 11:25:25am

Persecution of gays in Germany began in earnest after Nazis rose to power. They were on a moral crusade and considered the Weimar Republic’s tolerance of gays and lesbians to be decadence that had to be wiped out because it threatened the Aryan race. They arrested more than 100,000 men on charges of being gay, with more than 50,000 convicted and of that number, anywhere from 5,000 to 15,000 were sentenced to the concentration camps. And the Nazis treated them harshly in the camps. In fact, some of those sent to camps were purposefully mischaracterized as gay because they would be dealt with more harshly than other classes of prisoner:

From 1937 to 1939, the peak years of the Nazi persecution of homosexuals, the police increasingly raided homosexual meeting places, seized address books, and created networks of informers and undercover agents to identify and arrest suspected homosexuals. On April 4, 1938, the Gestapo issued a directive indicating that men convicted of homosexuality could be incarcerated in concentration camps. Between 1933 and 1945 the police arrested an estimated 100,000 men as homosexuals. Most of the 50,000 men sentenced by the courts spent time in regular prisons, and between 5,000 and 15,000 were interned in concentration camps.

The Nazis interned some homosexuals in concentration camps immediately after the seizure of power in January 1933. Those interned came from all areas of German society, and often had only the cause of their imprisonment in common. Some homosexuals were interned under other categories by mistake, and the Nazis purposefully miscategorized some political prisoners as homosexuals. Prisoners marked by pink triangles to signify homosexuality were treated harshly in the camps. According to many survivor accounts, homosexuals were among the most abused groups in the camps.

Anyhow, what angers me about this bs tactic is they bring up that some Nazis were gay and some were indeed like Ernst Rohm, the early leader of hte SA but they use that as proof as to why that we should discriminate against gay people. Does anyone even the most extreme anti Christian and straight person argue that straight Christians should not have equal rights under the law because a large majority of NSDAP members were straight Christians. Bueller?

re: #134 klys

I’m still trying to understand how Woodward thinks that Obama is “moving the goalposts” by pushing for a replacement to the sequester that involves a balance of spending cuts and revenue increases.

The whole point of sequester was that its effect on the budget and economy would be so bad and hurt the constituencies of GOPers and Democrats in such a way that it would force a compromise deal that the super committee could hash out and Congress could act upon. That’s why the GOP went for the deal when they passed it through the House with strong support from its own caucus.

The supercommittee couldn’t find its way out of a paper bag, leaving Congress no out (not that some in the GOP aren’t happy with this outcome - they are since they’re getting cuts that they’ve sought all along and their beef is to restore the defense budget portion with other offsets).

Everyone thought that the cuts would be so deep and harsh that an alternative would be produced in time. Turns out that the GOP wasn’t so interested in a deal so much as playing a game of Russian roulette with the American economy and their main argument right now is how to blame Obama for everything that came from the GOP intransigence.

160 Bulworth  Thu, Feb 28, 2013 11:37:07am
The former is true. Administration officials did come up with the sequester idea as a way to try to force Congress to agree to those deficit-reduction figures. The White House pretty much acknowledges this but adds that it is kind of irrelevant, because it was House Republicans who were holding the debt-ceiling increase hostage at the time. If Speaker John Boehner et al had not been doing that there would have been no need for sequestration, Q.E.D. Plus, it wasn’t supposed to ever go into effect.

Glad to see the CSM doesn’t have complete amnesia on this basic point.

Umm when a jury can not come to a wck conclusion as part of a trial they are sequestered in a hotel or whatever where they have to live till they can come to a conclusion one way or the other.

I think the way it works is that it’s like “jury come to a conclusion or we will sequester you”. In this case it was “Congress come to a deal or we’ll sequester you” since the sequester was a package of cuts that both parties agreed should be unpalatable or at least undesirable.

Arizona Senate Approves Gold, Silver As Legal Tender

According to Capitol Media Services, Republicans who pushed the measure through said they feared the value of the dollar could tank, making the law necessary. While the U.S. Constitution bans states printing their own currency, supporters argued it does not prohibit private organizations from minting gold and silver coins.

If the bill is approved by the state House and signed by Gov. Jan Brewer (R), it would give privately minted gold and silver the same legal status to pay bills as federal currency, according to Capitol Media Services. It could also force merchants to keep scales on hand in order to determine value of gold and silver — a point that was mocked by Democratic state Sen. Steve Farley, who opposed the bill. Farley proposed a list of items that could also serve as legal tender in the state, such as cattle, cotton and citrus.

Wiki’s got a page under “budget sequestration”, but in layman’s terms it’s an automatic broad cut on the budget in the event that Congress appropriates more money than a set limit. They raised the debt ceiling by $2.4 trillion, but only set out $1.2 trillion in cuts, with the other half to be made by the supercommittee if possible, but broad cuts is not.

This is not politics as usual, this is not how negotiation occurs. It is bizarre to pretend that it is, and completely unconvincing.

199 Gus  Thu, Feb 28, 2013 11:50:33am

And on Israel, Reagan said and did things that would turn Ted Cruz’s hair white. Reagan didn’t merely sell AWACS surveillance planes to Saudi Arabia over Israeli objections. When AIPAC launched a lobbying campaign to stop the sale, Reagan declared, “It is not the business of other nations to make American foreign policy.” When Israel bombed Iraq’s Osirak nuclear reactor in 1981, Reagan backed a U.N. resolution condemning the Jewish state and delayed various arms sales. And in August 1982, after Israel bombed Beirut for 11 straight hours, Reagan called Israel’s prime minister, a man whose family had largely perished at Nazi hands, and said, “Menachem, this is a Holocaust.”

The point isn’t that Reagan’s statements and actions were laudable. It’s that once upon a time, Republicans tolerated a level of criticism of Israeli policy that is unthinkable today. As on taxes, the bar for what’s considered “pro-Israel” in today’s GOP has been so dramatically raised that even the staunchest right-wingers are in danger of failing to qualify. On Hagel, right-wing activists didn’t merely demand that Republican senators vote no. They demanded that they support a filibuster, something never before done in a fight over a secretary of defense nominee…

Whoa.

I’m not sure if I’ve been communicating clearly, so I will try again. (I don’t dispute what you’re saying about compromise being necessary, but it wasn’t really what I was asking.)

Bob Woodward’s point is that the administration is “moving the goalposts” by seeking a compromise that features a mixture of spending cuts and revenue increases to replace the sequester. My understanding is: that was the purpose of the sequester, to drive the necessity of compromise which, at the time, was believed to be a mixture of spending cuts and revenue increases.

I totally get all of the Republican bullshit which is why no compromise has happened, but that doesn’t change the purpose of the sequester, which is to drive both parties back to the negotiating table with that in mind.

His claiming that the administration is moving the goalposts seems to be saying that the sequester cuts can only be replaced by equivalent targeted cuts instead of broad, across the board cuts like will happen. I don’t understand how a logical interpretation of events leads to this position and claims to be backed by facts. That’s what I’m trying to understand. That’s my question.

Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

Kinda puts the whole overblown nontroversy about how Obama and Netenyahu don’t like each other in a new light, doesn’t it.

Reagan had no problem using the very charged term Holocaust in responding to Begin’s government carrying out airstrikes and artillery attacks against PLO embedded in Southern Lebanon (language that the PLO, Fatah, Hamas, and other Islamic terror groups would use every time Israel attacked with force against terror infrastructure - see Jenin). And that’s despite Begin seeing his family decimated by the Holocaust.

Yeah but Obama anti-Israel yada yada. Honestly, I had not read about that incident before. I frankly think Reagan’s choice of words was insensitive to say the least.

WND: Obama Using Gun Control to Introduce Gulags and Gas Chambers

WorldNetDaily’s Robert Ringer today maintains that President Obama’s gun control legislation is actually meant to confiscate all guns in order to blunt the rise of the Tea Party. Ringer claims that there are “many more rednecks” joining the Tea Party, and they will be the last line of defense against Obama’s plan to “grab people’s guns.”

If Obama succeeds, Ringer warns, “gulags, gas chambers and firing squads are easily put into place,” and the president will ultimately be able to accomplish his life mission: “the complete destruction of Western civilization.”

re: #210 klys

It’s a matter of perspective and Woodward’s claim of moving the goalposts is dubious. From the Dem perspective the sequester should have made the the Republicans more willing to comprimise on raising revenue. Republicans are going to get most of the public blame if things go tits up. From the Republican perspective the Dems should be more willing to comprimise because Republicans have shown their willingness to kill the proverbial hostage. When either side’s expectations aren’t met they’re going to claim moved goalposts.
From my perspective I don’t think Beohner is capable of striking a deal. He doesn’t have enough control over his own caucus. We’re at the exact same point we were with the last budget debate. They’ll find a way to kick the can down the road again. We’ll run out of time eventually.

After first suggesting it would not get involved, the Obama administration will file a friend-of-the-court brief late today in support of the two gay couples who launched the fight over the issue four years ago, the officials said. Today is the last day for filing briefs in support of the couples’ position.

The administration last year signaled it might stay on the sidelines. In May, when President Obama first said that “same-sex couples should be able to get married,” he added that it was not a matter for the federal government.

LaBarbera: Gay Rights Legal Brief Is a ‘Tool of Repression’

In an interview with the American Family Association’s news affiliate Instant Analysis (formerly OneNewsNow), Peter LaBarbera of Americans For Truth About Homosexuality condemned the large group of corporations that joined legal briefs asking the Supreme Court to overturn the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and Proposition 8.

LaBarbera blasted the corporations for “pushing homosexuality on the American public,” calling the amicus brief “a tool of repression against Christians and people of faith who simply want their right to not support homosexuality.” He claimed that if the Supreme Court rules against Prop 8, “that will be a sad day for American freedom” and “a disaster,” as deciding who should have the freedom to marry “should be left up to citizens.”

Except if those citizens happen to homosexuals, of course.

Southern Baptist leader: Liberals ‘ostracized’ the KKK and homophobes will be next

Richard Land — who is in charge of addressing social, moral, and ethical concerns as president of the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission — said he wouldn’t approve of his gay and lesbian friends join the Boy Scouts.

“We’re not talking about ostracizing people,” Land argued. “They know that I do not approve of their lifestyle, they know that I believe the Bible does not approve of their lifestyle. But that does not give me any reason to treat them any differently than I would anyone else when it comes to the workplace or when it comes to social activities. But the Boy Scouts have a right to have an association.”

LGBT activists, however, are not as tolerant of others, according to Land.

“They do not believe in a live and let live philosophy,” the Southern Baptist leader explained. “Let’s be very clear about what their agenda is, their agenda is to have the homosexual lifestyle affirmed by society as healthy and normal and as a perfectly acceptable to young people and to have those who disagree with that ostracized the level of being Ku Klux Klansmen.”

First they came for the KKK, and I did nothing…

I’m not exactly sure I would have described him as tough on Bush.

I think it is important to understand the underlying biases of the people who are writing these stories. It doesn’t make him an ‘enemy agent’ to say that he is a Republican but it does explain the slant and willingness to overlook things that certainly seem to be present in the most recent brouhaha. The article you linked said that he thrives on opposition. It’s possible that that’s also what’s driving his current set of positions. Ex-Gay Advocates Claim Homosexuality Is Caused By Parental Abuse

Several fringe conservative groups have filed amicus briefs in the case challenging California’s ban on ex-gay therapy for minors. These groups rely solely on their own subjective research to defend individual’s right to try to change their sexual orientation if they wish to, conveniently disregarding that the anti-gay stigma they promote is the only reason anybody has negative feelings about their sexual orientation in the first place. Among the amici is the so-called American College of Pediatricians (ACP), an impostor organization of social conservatives that won’t even admit how few members it has. Unlike the LGBT-supporting 60,000-member American Academy of Pediatricians they hope to be mistaken for, the College peddles junk science to defend ex-gay therapy, including that homosexuality is caused directly by trauma. Here’s how they explain it in their brief:

These children need therapy for the trauma, not affirmation of a “gay identity.” Trauma (as an objective, measurable external event) lends itself to quantitative research and has been studied relative to homosexuality. One example of this is the disproportionate extent of sexual abuse during the childhoods of adult homosexuals. Another example is the increased association of homosexuality and gender identity disorder with parental separation at critical developmental stages.

There are also two forms of psychological trauma commonly associated with homosexuality. The first is the trauma caused by the child’s subjective experience of the same-sex parent’s lack of availability, rejection, or even harsh verbal, physical, or sexual attack. This may lead to an intense longing for love from the same-sex parent that is eventually sexualized by the child. Similarly, psychological trauma may also be caused by the child’s subjective experience of the opposite-sex parent’s lack of availability, rejection, or even harsh verbal, physical, or sexual attack. This may lead to an intense fear of and aversion toward opposite-sex relationships. In both situations, by objective standards, the parent may or may not be described in these terms.

While these traumas are unusually common in the childhoods of same-sex attracted persons, they are not universal, and in many cases, other, less typical traumas may be present. This reflects the inherent complexity of the interaction between one’s biologically influenced temperament, various environmental factors and the free-will choices individuals make.

The primary citation for most of these bogus claims is not even a scientific research paper, but a book called Homosexuality and the Politics of Truth, which was written by Orthodox Jewish psychiatrist Jeffrey Satinover and published by evangelical Christian publisher Baker Books. Satinover compares homosexuality to alcoholism and pedophilia, describing it as a compulsion instead of an identity.

Just like he is lulling the NRA by doing nothing to seize guns.

I gotta say, this whole “pox on both houses” bit, which is dove-tailing with “Obama needs to lead!,” is getting rather tiresome. Because every time I ask the supposed “centrists” who blather away about such what they’d like done, they tell me that they want both sides to come together and come up with a compromise plan that accommodates both sides. Yet they refuse to acknowledge that the Democrats have been preaching a balanced course for months now, that Obama ran on such during his reelection bid, and there is a Senate bill to that effect that the GOP just filibustered.

Cognitive dissonance is one thing, willful ignorance is entirely another. Neither of which I find appealing or intellectually honest.

Everyone knows Obama’s going to abolish the 2nd amendment and replace it with an amendment that requires everyone must be either gay, atheist, or Muslim. And that failure to comply means you get your guns taken away and the President evilly chuckles while he throws you and your family in a gulag gas chamber.

Heh they want to make this into something so bad and by this time next month, the only people talking about it anymore will be angry wingnuts like this guy. Of course, that will be their proof of the conspiracy. The WH staffer in question didn’t even act like a jerk. He was actually cordial with Woodward and Wodoward’s reply letter proves that but hey let’s act like Obama’s a big mean thug because we’re still bitter that we have to have him as President for the near 35 months.

294 Targetpractice  Thu, Feb 28, 2013 1:01:02pm

So yeah, apparently Fox is now going with the “He thought it was a threat, that’s all that matters” angle:

Fox News’ Megyn Kelly: Woodward Being Treated Like A ‘Rookie’ Reporter

“We’re in a situation where you’ve got a respected journalist whose career is taking hits by the day because he has so many people piling on,” Kelly said. “And they’re treating him like he’s some rookie reporter who doesn’t know when he’s been threatened. Of course Bob Woodward had that email from Gene Sperling. And of course he read the whole thing and he knows what he wrote back. The question is whether he believed it was a threat when he perceived it. What he told CNN was, yes, that’s what I thought. I believed that was a threat to me. But we’re supposed to believe he’s too immature, as a reporter, to know what’s a threat and what’s not, given a long history with this senior White House aide.”

And is only going to continue to do so.

Probably because he was hoping to retire and have a pub pres to replace him. Now he can’t retire for at least another 4 years and he’s going to make everyone suffer right along with him. Asshole.

You got to love all the “concern” for Bob Woodward from people who probably till this story broke resented him for Watergate and bringing down poor Nixon. Really, look at the actual letter between Woodward and the staffer, it’s obvious that it wasn’t a threat. The man is even apologizing for losing his cool with Woodward. But no we have to turn this into another fake controversy where the right wingers in the media act like Obama is so terrible and how could he do this. I admit, I initially thought reading the story that the staffer may have acted like a jerk but it seems hie was doing the total opposite. When you got Erick Erickson, Bryron York, and the Daily Caller admitting that this really is a whole lot of nothing. It’s time to back down and admit that maybe just maybe that you went a bridge too far on this instead of looking for the next bridge in the distance that’s even further.

That’s cuz they’re not centrists. They’re republicans who are too embarrassed to admit that.

Nah, those are “independents.” Most “centrists” I run into are Democrats in denial, afraid to support the party for fear of being branded “liberal” and all the evil connotations thereof.

Wingnuttia has already established that there is no turning around (since that admits the possibility of error), the rear-view mirrors were stolen from a Fun House, and that if they ever meet William Shatner they will mistake him for their creator.

Interesting. I don’t know anyone who is afraid of being branded a liberal. But I live in NY so what do I know ;-)

You’re lucky that it hasn’t become a dirty word in your part. It should have never became a pejorative in the first place. Yet another reason to resent right wing talk radio but that’s another story.

I await the first business owner being sued for not accepting gold.

Please make sure your business can properly gauge gold content and purity and weight before accepting any gold coins.

Going to be some damn long grocery store lines. Will make them long for the days when someone would pull out a checkbook.

Daily Caller: “Bob Woodward trolled us (and we got played)”

The wingnuts commenting under the article now think Daily Caller is part of the coverup. These people absolutely refuse to engage with reality. The whole comment section is filled with complete lunatics.

But of course the Black thug from Chicago would threaten the nice elderly White man. Why are we doubting this?

I guess Woodward has no choice but to double/triple down on his lie. Pathetic.

Can’t the cashiers just bite them, like they do in the movies?
