The Breitbrat Hagiographies: Year One A.B. (After Breitbart)

Honoring their founding screamer
Humor • Views: 28,931

I have to admit, I’m only posting this because the ridiculous clumsy photoshop of Andrew Breitbart’s too-big head on a John Singleton Copley painting is totally hilarious in that inadvertent wingnut way: POP CULTURAL CONSERVATISM, YEAR ONE A.B. (AFTER BREITBART).

The photoshop:

The original painting they defaced:

Come on! You can’t buy this kind of comedy! Andrew did say, after all, that he was proud to be a teabagger; now they have him dressed like one.

Had some jesus freaks knock on my door a few minutes ago…first, solicitors just set the dogs off to barking, which I do my best to quell quickly, though in this instance as I opened the door and saw the glossy photo of Jesus carrying a lamb to slaughter, I simply said, “Oh, hell no.” and stepped back inside…Banjo finished explaining my position on solicitors through the window.

Yeah, that’s some awesome questionaire eHarmony has set up. //

I learned a long time ago that colonial portrait painters had collections of stock bodies, and when they commissioned a painting they just painted in the face.

It makes sense, people had to sit for a long time to have a portrait made, and the painter probably had better outfits.

Back in the 90s, there was a set of instructions for installing Slackware Linux that had “As root, run ‘rm -rf /’” as the second to last step. The last instruction was “Start over and read all the way through random instructions on the ‘net before you blindly follow them next time.”

Good way of clearing off the junk.

It actually can be. I keep my personal data isolated from the OS install directories, so my normal upgrade technique is “blow away system directories, install new version from scratch”, rather than try to stick around on the upgrade treadmill. (Although, I still don’t run rm -rf /, I do something more dangerous and final: I format the system partitions with mkfs.)

Jeffress: Most Catholics Going to Hell, Obama Paving the Way for the Antichrist

First Baptist Dallas Pastor Robert Jeffress, who made headlines when Tim Tebow backed out of an upcoming appearance at his new $130 million megachurch campus, spoke at length about the controversy during a recent appearance on the Alan Colmes Radio Show. Jeffress complained that he had been taken out of context and tried to downplay and sidestep some of his most explosive remarks. But for the most part, he just cemented his reputation as an extremist.

Jeffress began his defense on an inauspicious note, noting that he has a Jewish friend in New York so he can’t possibly be anti-Semitic. While we’ve never called him anti-Semitic, we have noted that Jeffress believes Jews are destined for hell – along with Catholics, Mormons, Muslims and gays, so at least they’ll have company.

Colmes asked Jeffress about many of his most contentious remarks, such as whether he ever said that “Roman Catholicism is Satanic.” “I never used the term ‘Satanic,’” Jeffress responded. That’s technically true but highly misleading: Jeffress has said Satan is behind the Catholic Church. It only got more disingenuous from there.

Jeffress relegated the overwhelming majority of the world’s Catholics to hell while trying to make it sound like he was doing no such thing.

‘Troublemaker of the Year’ tells Moyers science studies needed to ‘ensure the survival of the human race’

Rep. Paul Broun’s (R-GA) infamous speech calling evolution and other scientific theories “lies from the pits of hell,” education advocate Zack Kopplin told Moyers, exemplified attitudes that need to be changed.

“While he may think they’re lies from the pit of hell, they’re not,” Kopplin said. “They’re good, established science. And if our students don’t learn it, they’re going to be at a disadvantage to the rest of the world, to China, to Britain to France. And we’re not going to do what we need to really make the advances to keep our way of life and ensure the survival of the human race, if we don’t teach our students science.”

The Louisiana native and current Rice University student was named the first “Troublemaker of the Year” by a private foundation on Feb. 15 in honor of his campaign to repeal the Louisiana Science Education Act, which became state law in 2008.

I’m going to repost this from this morning about Woodward.

Good Morning.. I taped and rewatched the Woodward interview from last night on Hannity. ( I can’t stand the Hannity show.. I’d would have rather married Ann Coulter in Vegas after a 2 days of a drinking binge than watch Hannity ).
I said I’d keep an open mind on this and I think I have.
I don’t agree with Woodward’s actions in this case. I can’t say if it’s to sell books or he is out of his prime as a reporter and I’m surprised.
If what he thinks is a threat by the WH then he should retire from politics.
It’s a blood sport and if you can’t stand the heat get out of the the kitchen.

They’re actually British (hence makeitstop hearing it on his London radio station). It’s excellent. My wife picked up their 2009 release recently, and I love it.

Been checking their YTubes. They have the same number in a live Red Rocks concert, but it’s much poorer quality than the audio-only.

The civil union ought to specify that.

The word “marriage” is what’s in all the laws and company policies. “Civil Unions” are a separate-but-equal canard. There isn’t a way to write a sane law that really grants equal rights without letting them have the word “marriage”. Also, I have plenty of atheist friends who are married. The word marriage is not owned by any church. It is partially a secular thing, and there isn’t a way to separate it at this point.

re: #96 Ojoe

The civil union ought to specify that.

But it doesn’t. There aren’t civil unions with all the same rights as marriage. And if they were, they’d be marriage. Sure, the problem would be solved if the government changed the name of the legal contract to ‘civil union’ (and did a trillion tons of paperwork) but the problem would also be solved by the totally simple extension of marriage rights to same-sex couples.

Can you explain exactly what the problem is with just extending marriage rights to same-sex couples? This is speaking purely in state, legal terms.

Iceweasel posted a full summary of that a couple years ago. The mechanics make expanding “marriage” much more do-able. If the churches don’t like it, no one is making them play.

Abolish marriage as a legal term, allow anyone to get civil unions and give them legal benefits and protections for doing so, problem solved.

If you want to have a pretty little religious ceremony and call it a marriage, go for it.

How hard is that?

What I’ve learned from following the Prop8 trial is that all the money of the Mormon Church has not been able to buy a viable explanation for that.

It’s true. Nobody has ever shown any injury, any problem caused to them by the extension of marriage rights except the trivial one that marriage comes with rights that they might benefit from that might have economic value— which isn’t an argument against civil rights.

Us freezing out Cuba really hasn’t worked, and the only reason Iran is on the brink is because of International Sanctions.

Still feel a bit proud of myself for contacting my congressmen. (R-Lamborn, D-Bennet, and D-Udall) I feel that someone should speak up for the Bengalis being intimidated and attacked by the Jamaat-i-Islami nuts.

I personally feel that if we find anyone here who has provided help to that group during their violence in the past month (an analog to David Headley), they need to be thrown in jail.

re: #78 3eff Jeff

It’s a good way to do it. It’s how I learned to program, except with SuSE and Slackware, because Gentoo was still a few years in the future when I started with Linux. It turns out: commercial compilers are expensive, particularly for high school students.

Sorry, I forgot the snark. I learned computers back in the late 1970s/early 1980s. I was even getting paid for working with computers when I first played with linux in various flavors.

Even so, GENTOO is the flavor that actually brought a bunch of “aha” moments into play. Things I knew already that suddenly clicked together in my mind. I don’t recommend it for casual use, and I don’t think it’s the best flavor for most purposes. But because of my experience it’s the one I use for people wanting to _learn_ linux — because even though it’ll make assumptions for you, it tells you what assumptions it’s making and what some of the alternatives might be.

Yep. Basically he wants the US to treat Egypt much like Iran. Maybe not as harsh. That would never work and could possibly make things worse. You know, they’re the ones that voted in the MB. They even voted to ratify the constitution which the secular groups, women and progressives of Egypt were again.

re: #137 Gus

The image I am getting out of Egypt and Tunisia is this.

The actions of the MB in the past year or so has made them unpopular. But the Progressives and others were repressed as much, if not more than, these nuts. So, they are very disorganized, more so than the MB. And it’s not like the MB has improved either economy. Hell, in Egypt, it is worse than under Mubarak, as the MB tends to extremely Free-Market.

Libya is doing better economically than either of them. And they are dealing with what we dealt with 220+ years ago. A weak, post-revolutionary government.

Then again Libya got a front-row seat to the duplicity of the Muslim Brotherhood. Probably why they are having a harder time getting a foothold than in either Egypt or Tunisia.
