Steven Crowder’s Bogus “Union Thugs Attacked Me” Case: No Charges Filed

Another Breitbart/Fox-sponsored hoax expires with a whimper
Wingnuts • Views: 43,695

Remember when right wing pseudo-comedian Steven Crowder provoked and insulted and shoved union demonstrators at the Michigan Capitol until someone took a swing at him? Remember how he used a blatantly edited video to try to push this phony story of “union thuggery,” and Sean Hannity and Fox News and breitbart.com and the whole right wing blogosphere hyped it like crazy?

Well, after reviewing unedited video of the incident, the prosecutor has decided there’s no case.

The prosecutor in this case has determined that there’ll be no charges against anyone who popped Crowder on that December day. Ingham County Prosecutor Stuart Dunnings III “will not be authorizing criminal charges in this case,” Shanon Banner, a spokeswoman for the Michigan State Police, wrote in an e-mail to the Erik Wemple Blog this morning.

Dunnings said in an interview that the video his office originally reviewed on the matter “appeared to have been edited.” A subsequent review of what the prosecutor termed “unedited” video helped the office reach its decision not to proceed with a case.

“A look at the unedited video, taken in conjunction with the statements of the alleged victim and the alleged assailant, led me to the conclusion that I would not authorize issuance of the warrant,” Dunnings said.

Another right-wing swing and a miss. With O’Keefe, they’re 0 for 2 this week. For the mathematically-challenged wing nuttery, that means you’re batting .000.

And just like O’Keefe having to pay up, the usual suspect blogs aren’t saying a word about this. They flagellated themselves silly over this story, following it for days and screaming themselves horse over “union thuggery.” Now? Silence.

I wish that silence was permanent.

Sadly, they are immune to embarrassment.

It was effective. Michigan is now a right to work state.

Just wait till the mini Breitbarts break the story that the Prosecutor on the case is a Friend of Hamas

Was the vote before or after that fracas? Because I thought it was before.

Exactly. There was a highly coordinated right wing campaign to delegitimize unions in Michigan (still is, actually) and this stunt was just one part of it. The sad thing is that — again! — large segments of the mainstream media covered the story and gave it credence it did not deserve.

Yes, it counts. The NYT is liberal paper and therefore it is eeeevvill.

MIXTURE

The specific mosquito-like object pictured above is, as far as we know, just a CGI mock-up of a conceptual design for a MAV, not a photograph of an actual working device. And although taking DNA samples or inserting micro-RFID tracking devices under the skin of people are MAV applications that may some day be possible, such possibilities currently appear to be speculative fiction rather than reality.

Pretty much. That technology would be very far away. Plus, think about what kind of needle you’d need for these purposes and think about putting that “injection” on a mosquito sized device.

Newspeak 101: “right to work” sounds ever so much better than what it is —- “no rights for workers”.

Really good. Amazing specs. Now that I have them I’ll be posting some footage soon enough. This should let me get a lot of footage I could never get with a DSLR.

29 majii  Sat, Mar 9, 2013 7:24:56pm

I’m still searching my mind for something that republicans haven’t lied about, so the refusal of the prosecutor to try this case is no big deal. I’m not surprised by this, just as I wasn’t surprised that O’Keefe was exposed as the liar he is. Discovering that he has to pay the guy he lied about $100,000 was icing on the cake.

Coincidentally, that was the day I finally signed up for account on LGF. I was pretty pissed because 1) too many people were throwing the Union guy under the bus who was simply defending himself, and 2) Crowder is an assclown douche bag.

31 labman57  Sun, Mar 10, 2013 10:55:44am

The guy got his 15 minutes of fame in the right wing blogosphere, and that’s really all that matters, right?
