Wingnuts • Views: 61,642

The White House created a hashtag #askFLOTUS for citizens to tweet their concerns about childhood obesity to the First Lady. Almost immediately it was overwhelmed with hate tweets from the usual gang of idiots.

More right wing hate tweets in comments below…

I can’t believe most of these people, would say these things aloud to her, in a one on one situation. This is classic bullying, done both out of ignorance and pain in their own lives. A kind of kick the dog response, but because they are anonymous, they can kick what the see is as a powerful symbol of their oppression and receive accolades from their peers. That desire to feel strong and empowered is really addictive and as you can see very destructive.

Unbridled hate and venom, courtesy of the so-called party of compassionate conservatives. Oh wait, that died the moment G.W. Bush left office and Obama was sworn in (actually, the moment he won the election in 2008).

It’s been a nonstop hate parade ever since.

Reelection didn’t temper it either. If anything, it’s intensified even further.

At the same time, conservatives are busy building their own fantasy land - complete with games that purposefully ignore facts/reality:

Dear Conservatives Everywhere,
The Conservative movement is losing young people like never before. The interest in this country’s founding as well as current events seems to bore the youth as they search for entertainment and instant gratification. We can change this by taking things they enjoy already and replacing them with things that are meant to excite and in an indirect way, educate. What young person in our current education system knows about our Hiram Rhodes Revels, the first black US Senator (Republican) who was voted in by a super-majority in Mississippi in 1870, before segregation, and opposed by white Democrats or that it was President Woodrow Wilson that implemented segregation as part as his Progressive agenda, due to a Democratic supermajority.

Historical Conquest: The Game is an epic card game where players can create personalized societies with key players from history and battle them one against another; anyone, anywhere, anytime. Each card is complete with: fantastic illustrations of people, places, events in history; abilities in the game according to the abilities they had in real life; and a full summary of their actual history. Eric the Red can help the Mongol Army conquer Argentina during the Black Plaque. Albert Einstein can live peacefully in Japan under the leadership of Abraham Lincoln during World War I.

Imagine it, a game played with actual heroes and villains throughout the world, during different events in history. Now you don’t have to imagine it anymore and it has already been a hit with everyone who has played.

Being in the form of a Collectible Card Game, Historical Conquest has a proven method of influencing and exciting young people. Put away your Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon and mix it with Risk: The Board Game and you now have a product that will excite young people to learn about their past as well as history around the world.

The events of a 150+ years ago with GOP President Lincoln and the emancipation and subsequent Democrat opposition lasted until the civil rights movement of the 1940s, when FDR and subsequent Democrats ended up taking up the mantle of civil rights and GOPers grew in opposition. We’d have to ignore that sociopolitical and cultural shift. In other words, the current conservatives want to rest on the laurels of President Lincoln, all while denying equal rights and protections to gays and lesbians, undermine the civil rights protections to minorities by and through the VRA and other legal protections, and rolling back protections for women.

They want to point to the actions of the Democratic and Republican Parties 140 years ago and use that as the measuring stick for how the two parties should be regarded now. Yeah, let’s ignore the fact that Republican Jesse Helms bragged about how he would whistle Dixie to the Senate’s second African-American since Revels. Let’s ignore the fact that the Republican party’s voters thought so much of Cvil Rights in 1964 that they nominated a man opposed to the biggest bill to date of the age. That Nixon, later Reagan, and other Republican nominees continue to embrace a strategy that appeals to white resentment of minorities.

A pretty good case that these people are more hateful than truly concerned about oppressive government can be made by the fact they’re using a social media program which collects their data and shares it to communicate anti-government statements.

Then again, never underestimate stupid.

Yeah Hiram Revels, along with several other African-Americans served in Congress in the first years after the Civil War until the end of Reconstruction 12 years later. In the latter days of Reconstruction, the ancestors of the GOP’s new dixiecrat base rebelled, again, against Federal authority and fought against equality for African Americans, which had been newly enshrined in the Constitution. Former confederate soldiers and leaders threatened, beat and murdered blacks who tried to vote. These efforts eventually suceeded in “redeeming” the South for State’s Rights and White dictatorship. Amazingly, as today’s GOP has become more rooted in the old confederacy, it has increasingly championed new voting restriction laws, among other anti-democratic measures. Surely a coincidence….//

In a conversation with radio host Janet Mefferd Friday, anti-gay writer Frank Turek responded to marriage equality supporters who point to divorce rates among straight couples. “You don’t make the car better by slashing another tire on it,” he said. “ You go back and repair the first tire. What a load of horseshit. No-fault divorce is a good thing, FWIW. If you’re in a marriage that is failing, it’s better for both sides to be able to get out of it quickly and cleanly, especially if there are kids involved. If you have to start finding fault then it drags on and all sorts of hurt comes around.

Meh. They’d get the same response if they went to a current KKK rally and tried to call a member a liberal. The only difference would be how the insult was assuaged - and if there were no witnesses, no press, that difference might not be so great either.

Oh, but they bitch and moan about how President Obama has never visited Israel. Well, he’s now going later this month, and it’s quite a cost to do one of these overseas trips. Pare that back? For the good of the debt?
Or make the expenditure for maintaining and strengthening our relationship with Israel?

I’m sure the response from the TP is both - complain either way and blame him for other things that are actually beyond is power and control (like the cost of gas).

It reminds me of the NHL payoffs last year when the Capitals beat my Bruins. The winning goal was scored by Joel Ward and some racist/moronic Bruin’s fans took to twitter to hurl some racial slurs his way. It was picked up by HuffPo, NYDailyNews, ESPN, etc and showed a lot of people their true colors (no pun intended?).

I’m obviously biased, but I feel like the things I criticized Bush for were real things. And, I criticized the Democrats in Congress for enabling it, too. This paranoid, wingnut conspiracy crazy is so off the wall.

I could think of legitimate criticisms Republicans could have about POTUS (though he’s not exactly a raging liberal), but they appear to just want to cling to their paranoid fantasies, instead. There is clearly a racial component, but I also think they’re just mad that they didn’t get the President they wanted. It’s like none of them matured past age 5 (not to disparage 5 year olds, who are great).

It didn’t even register to me that I should criticize her (Laura Bush) for anything.

That’s probably because, like most of us, you’re essentially concerned about policy. And by “policy” I mean actual documented matters of substance affecting the taxes Americans pay, and the basic goods and services (security, food inspection, social security, etc) the government provides in return.

But if you were a wingnut, then most of these actual, real policy matters would be of little consequence, nor would you even be aware of their existence. Hence we have various make-believe issues, like the birth certificate, death panels, PBO’s supposed Muslim identify and so forth.

re: #227 Kragar (Antichrist )

More Derp:

The truth is simple, plain and unmistakable: homosexuals already have full marriage equality in all 50 states. Right now. As we speak. Nobody, absolutely, nobody is denying them the right to marry. Anywhere.

Homosexuals can get married everywhere just like everybody else - to one, adult, non-relative member of the opposite sex. They had that right yesterday, they have it today, and they will have it tomorrow. That’s full, absolute equality under the law.

But homosexuals do not want equal rights, because they already have that. No, they want special rights, based exclusively on aberrant sexual behavior. They are in fact pressing for inequality under the law, since they demand a special carve out that is not available to pedophiles and polygamists.

Marriage has never been an unrestricted right in America. You cannot marry a child, you cannot marry one of your own children, you cannot marry your mother, you cannot marry your sister, you cannot marry more than one person at a time (you can ask 19th century Mormons about that) and you cannot marry your goat, although there are people today seriously pressing even for that. You cannot marry a building, even though a brain-addled Seattle woman tried that stunt a couple of years ago.

*sigh* I’m not even going to respond to this. There’s no point.

re: #255 jaunte

The whole soda ban is an attempt to reduce caloric intake but it misses its mark. Its imposition was massaged in a way that entire classes of beverages are exempt from coverage, even though they could contain far more calories and sugar than regular sodas (non-diet).

Diet soda is exempt (you can drink as much to your heart’s content).
Fruit juices are exempt.
Milk and milk products are exempt.
Products containing 50% or more milk are exempt.

Juice and milk can have more calories per ounce, and they aren’t covered by the ban. Soda is. Diet soda isn’t.

The justification for those selective omissions from the ban are that juices and milk (or coffee with milk) have some nutritional value to go along with the calories. However, I’ve argued that if the soda makers decide to fortify their beverages with vitamins and minerals, that would eliminate the distinction between juice and soda to the point that some juice and milk products would actually fare worse than soda (contain more calories for similar nutritional content).

Oh and for what it’s worth, there are a few tweets and scattered reports (this via WSJ) that a judge has issued an injunction on the imposition of the soda ban tomorrow. The judge found the classifications of products subject to the rules arbitrary and capricious:

The city is “enjoined and permanently restrained from implementing or enforcing the new regulations,” New York Supreme Court Judge Milton Tingling decided Monday.

The regulations are “fraught with arbitrary and capricious consequences,” the judge wrote. “The simple reading of the rule leads to the earlier acknowledged uneven enforcement even within a particular city block, much less the city as a whole….the loopholes in this rule effectively defeat the state purpose of the rule.”

I never liked President Bush, and heaven knows I disagreed with 90 percent of the shit that went on during both his terms, but I never felt that level of outright hatred toward him or his family. And honestly, now that he’s had some time away from politics, I would LOVE to sit down with him over lunch and just talk to him about stuff. Not that I’m some VIP, but it would be interesting, he doesn’t evoke that level of hatred in me, nor am I the least bit scared or intimidated by him.
