The Republican “Rebranding” Scam Proceeds

Desperately searching for ways to trick people into giving them power again
Politics • Views: 31,226

You’ve probably heard that RNC chairman Reince Preibus announced a new report today, identifying ways that the Republican Party needs to reform.

Call me a cynic, but my reading of the report reveals the same old same old: lots of angst about “messaging” and “reaching out to minorities,” and absolutely no awareness that it’s Republican policies that are the problem, not the way they’re “framing” them. Bottom line: the RNC report is a set of recommendations on how to better trick voters into supporting the GOP, even as the GOP continues to work against their interests.

What I found much more revealing was this exchange between Reince Priebus and a reporter who asked about that disgusting outbreak of white supremacism at last weekend’s CPAC: RNC Chair Asked About Chaotic CPAC Race Panel.

“Question about CPAC last week, where a panel on African American voters dissolved into a shouting match with at least one activist saying that — sorry, hard to read the question — talking about voters being systematically disenfranchised. How, given that sort of backdrop in the party, do you plan to overcome those challenges in your role at the RNC?” National Press Club President Angela Greiling Keane asked Priebus at an event on the RNC’s roadmap ahead after the 2012 elections.

Priebus responded to the question by saying the RNC plans to hire hundreds of paid staffers to reach out to minority communities across the country.

“For one thing, you have to show up, right?” he said. “I mean, if you’re going to get the order, you have to ask for the sale. I mean, that’s just sort of basic. Which is why we’re launching this unprecedented effort to bring in — I’m not talking about hiring two or three people down the hallway at the RNC — what we’re talking about is hiring hundreds of paid people across the country this year to make the case in minority communities across America.”

Priebus seems to think the only response needed is to pay people to go out and promote the GOP to “minority communities” — but he completely ignored the question. And there you have the GOP’s problem in a nutshell. They believe they can fix things by just hiring more PR shills, but can’t even be bothered to address a real incident of very real, very ugly racism, at the premier right wing conference.

ON CBS today, Priebus said, “We’ve done a really lousy job of branding and marketing who we are.”

I have to disagree. With “death panels” and “self-deportation” and forced vaginal ultrasounds and insane comments about “legitimate rape” and creationism and climate change denial, the Republican Party has done an absolutely smashing job of demonstrating exactly who they are. The best marketing in the world isn’t going to help you if your product sucks.

For reference, here’s the report they want you to believe is a sincere effort to promote reform:

The GOP “rebranding” consists of one key strategy.

Hiding the real GOP and their base from the rest of America.

TPM:

So drastically shorter primary phase, much earlier nominating convention, many fewer debates. Aren’t all of Reince Priebus’s structural reforms basically aimed at dramatically reducing the time period in which the actual Republican party base is on display for the public at large?

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic — Police in the Dominican Republic say they have determined that three women who said they had sex with U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez for money were in fact paid to make false claims by an attorney in the Caribbean country.

Police spokesman Maximo Baez says officers traced the payments to attorney Melanio Figueroa. Baez says two women received about $425 each and the other was paid about $300 to falsely state on camera that they had sex with Menendez (D-N.J.).

Baez said at a news conference today that authorities were seeking to interrogate Figueroa about the payments. … The women’s videotaped statements were published on a conservative U.S. website. Menendez denied the allegations.

Was that the Daily Caller?

The original draft of Reince’s report was outlined thus:

1. Didn’t oppose tyrannical Obamacare enough.
2. Didn’t suppress enough voters
3. Not severely conservative enough
4. Didn’t nominate a true conservative
5. Media bias
6. Voter fraud
7. Need congressional-district electoral college “reform”
8. Montana, Alaska and Texas are big states: let’s divide them into smaller states
9. Outlaw unions
10. Photo ID and literacy tests to vote: an old idea whose time has come back.
11. Repeal Constitutional Amendments 13-20.

Keep dreaming, RNC. Your problem is that your party is filled with greedy assholes who only care about other greedy assholes. Everyone else can starve.

11 HappyWarrior  Mon, Mar 18, 2013 10:58:19am

I love how Preibus and the rest of the Republican leadership continue to think the problem is the messaging rather than the message itself. He really is living enough his anagram of RNC PR BS.

12 aagcobb  Mon, Mar 18, 2013 10:58:33am

The GOP has been captured by its base of white evangelical and born-again Christians, and its platform perfectly appeals to them and few others. Single women, more so than Hispanics on whom so much attention has been focused, are a critical voting bloc the GOP focuses intense hostility on, because married evangelicals are deeply suspicious of hussies who aren’t doing their duty to God of getting married and making babies. Even if the GOP can create separation from the fundamentalists on issues like contraceptives, its economic message of low taxes and virtually no government services has little appeal to single women.

They saved the GOP from a total meltdown when they selected GW over a real election. There were all kinds of unconstitutional maneuvers the GOP was preparing in order to avoid accepting the vote. Florida was prepared to mess with the electors, and the there was talk of not accepting the electors … That’s what GW kept saying utter bullshit about “changing the rules” because if a state changes the rules after the election then their electors will be rejected.

Imagine the results if the GOP had destroyed the electoral process AFTER the vote was counted.

So saving the GOP is what this court DOES.

King says GOP reformers will never “rebrand us conservatives”

Republican Congressman Steve King says congress is pursuing a “hollow agenda” that’s too focused on economic issues and isn’t addressing social issues like same-sex marriage.

“There are some people within our movement that want to rebrand the Republican Party,” King said Saturday. “Now, they may succeed in doing that, but they’re never going to rebrand us conservatives.”

King made his comments this weekend at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, D.C. King vowed to leave the event “like a rocket” to challenge the Republican Party to do more to promote traditional marriage and to “protect innocent, unborn life.”

From the WSJ comment section of this article:

GOP Issues Scathing Self-Analysis

What Republicans should be worried about is voter/election fraud and the major media’s total cover-up of it.

The Democrat party is now third world. The Black voting precincts are esssentially sumps of total voting corruption. A case can be made that at least 10 million Republican votes were never counted. If you have total control of a precinct you can vote till all registered have voted and likely then some.

Democrat’s “no id” position only solidifies this observation. We had Republican poll workers physically thrown out of the polling place by Democrat thugs. People who voted multiple times w/o major media coverage and overtly admitted nullification of votes of other Americans.

Fraud—Election[playing with machines]/voter fraud. We now have evolved to the lowest common denominater ruling this country. Our inner cities are imploding due to endless administrations of corrupt Politicians.

The Republicans biggest problem is not having their vote counted. Back to paper!

The paranoid claim about Mexico/Hispanics wanting to take over the U.S. is pretty special. Since, you know, we basically conducted a land-grab in 1846-48 and gobbled up much of what was Mexico. And Polk reportedly wanted more even than what he got.

And now, the predictable round of denials from the History Channel and theocrat Mark Burnett and Glenn Beck:

mediaite.com

UPDATE: In a Monday statement, the History Channel said:

HISTORY channel has the highest respect for President Obama. The series was produced with an international and diverse cast of respected actors. It’s unfortunate that anyone made this false connection. HISTORY’s ‘The Bible’ is meant to enlighten people on its rich stories and deep history.”

The Bible executive producers Mark Burnett and Roma Downey also said:

“This is utter nonsense. The actor who played Satan, Mehdi Ouzaani, is a highly acclaimed Moroccan actor. He has previously played parts in several Biblical epics– including Satanic characters long before Barack Obama was elected as our President.”

UPDATE II: Beck also tweeted out a caution to the media to “relax” and that his initial observation was simply meant to be funny.

Oh, look who has jumped on the Satan=Obama pic story… yes, of course, WND, but look who they quote:

Devil looks like Obama in ‘The Bible’

President Barack Obama, already famous for having flies attracted to his face, is now the subject of devilish talk after Sunday night’s episode of “The Bible” miniseries on the History Channel.

Twitter exploded with comments from viewers who noticed an eerie similarity between the face of Mr. Obama and that of the Satan character, played by actor Mehdi Ouzaani.

Media giant Glenn Beck was among the first to make the connection, tweeting, “Anyone else think the Devil in #TheBible Sunday on History Channel looks exactly like That Guy?”

Beck refers to Obama as “that guy,” having vowed not to utter the name of the president in all of 2013.

Twitter user @Leah Christie, tweeted, “Oh my word…watching The History Channel’s The Bible…does Satan look familiar to anyone else?”

Other tweets include:

[…]

Stephanie Jefferson@mittchick: “I am so relieved to know that my eyes and mind were not playing tricks on me when I thought Satan resembled Obama in #TheBible
VictorJett Contreras@victorjett: WHA! Did the Bible miniseries on History Channel make the Devil look like Obama. Crazy. Ridiculous.”

Radio host Rush Limbaugh quipped Monday afternoon, “In light of that picture … the question that sprang to everybody’s mind is: if Satan had a son, would he look like the guy [in the White House’]?”

Find out everything you always wanted to know about the devil but were too afraid to ask in the autographed besteller, “Shocked by the Bible,” or get “Shocked by the Bible” bundled with Joe Kovacs’ brand-new bestseller, “The Divine Secret.”

This is not the first time some in the public have made a connection between evil in the Bible and President Obama.

On Nov. 5, 2008, the very night Obama was first elected president, the Illinois Pick 3 lottery number for the Evening Pick was 666, a number associated with “the beast” mentioned in the Book of Revelation.

In January of this year, WND reported how prophecy websites were having a field day with the worldwide attention Obama received for sparring with a fly.

[…]

And then WND goes on and on about Obama attracting flies.

Really.

Will Tucker Carlson ever own up to being a slime?

Police: Women paid to make sex claims against Sen. Menendez

Police in the Dominican Republic said Monday that three women who claimed they had sex with Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ) were actually paid by a third party to make false claims, according to The Associated Press.

Two of the women were paid $425 each, while a third was paid $300, police reportedly said. Police spokesperson Maximo Baez added that the payments were traced back to an attorney, Melanio Figueroa.

The allegations initially appeared to align with earlier claims passed to the watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) by someone claiming to be named “Peter Williams.” Williams reportedly said that Menendez visited a prostitute in the Dominican Republic, but a subsequent FBI investigation turned up no evidence.

Video of the women was carried in February by the conservative Daily Caller website, run by Republican pundit and former CNN contributor Tucker Carlson. The site, which has featured dozens of stories about the allegations, did not appear to be featuring any stories on Monday afternoon about police finding that the women were paid to fabricate the stories.

NOM’s Peters: Regardless of ‘Propaganda,’ the Human Heart Knows Gay Marriage is Wrong

Thomas Peters of the National Organization for Marriage was the guest on today’s episode of “WallBuilders Live” where he discussed the organization’s efforts to spread its anti-marriage equality message to the next generation, saying that the key to their success will be finding a way to overcome the “intolerance and hatred” on campuses against those who promote this message.

Insisting that being anti-gay marriage does not make one anti-gay, Peters asserted that, despite all the “propaganda,” the human heart simply knows that gay marriage is wrong and so this position will eventually win out, and it is imperative to work to prevent people from becoming confused and lost in the meantime:

I guess that means everyone who feels otherwise is either confused or not human.
