The lawyer for the victim in the horrific Steubenville rape case chose to do the work pro-bono — without pay — but that hasn’t stopped concerned citizens from wanting to donate money in the victim’s honor. And so the girl’s lawyer, Bob Fitzsimmons, has asked that anyone who wants to donate funds direct their donations to the Madden House, a victims’ services organization near Steubenville, in Wheeling, WV.

The results, says Patricia Flanigan, Program Director for Family Violence Prevention Programs there, have been staggering.

“It’s very touching. And it’s all over the world,” she told ThinkProgress. “It’s not just from the United States. We’re having correspondence all over the world — Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Singapore, Germany. I can just go on and on. Ireland. Some are coming in as donations and some are just offering support and saying keep up the good work.”

Members of a branch of the Ku Klux Klan planning a protest in Memphis, Tennessee, this month, after the city’s council voted to strip the name of a former Klan member from a public park.

The Loyal White Knights of the KKK called for the demonstration after the city council voted to rename the Nathan Bedford Forrest park in Memphis. Forrest was a lieutenant general in the Confederate army and an early KKK member.

At a 1998 rally by Klansmen in Memphis, police fired teargas at angry anti-KKK protesters. But the event on 30 March could yet be thwarted, after the city council voted on Tuesday to ban protesters from wearing masks and costumes during demonstrations.

The “rally events” section of the Loyal White Knights website summoned members to a “public march for Nathan Bedford Forrest Statue”.

“They are renaming the park and also removing his remains,” the statement said, in block capitals. “We are asking all good klans to join us in the fight. Join Loyal White Knights and the Northern Mississippi White Knights and International Keystone Knights for this event.”

There were no eyes, hair, skin, nose, or even a complete skull found. Theories of what “she” looked like are numerous with over 100 different depictions in different science museums. These depictions run from ape to human.

Even with other current “scientific” studies, how many of them prove something that is later disproved? Are eggs healthy to eat or not? What about the vitamins, supplements, medicine and vaccines that are available to us? When are they good and when aren’t they? Let’s continue to examine information and let the data bring us to where it may. This is science. Theories are not facts — they are part of what makes up quality science.

My family stuffs them with breadcrumbs, parmesan cheese, and garlic. A Christmas tradition.

My great-grandma used to slice part of the stems into coins, blanch them, then add them to the stuff, but my grandma and sister figure that’s too much work.

Scrape the stuffing and pulp off between your teeth. Then the fuzzy part, etc.

It is, but it’s the German side of my family who does that. (When my grandparents were young, they had an Italian couple who lodged in the first floor of their house that taught them how to do it that way.)

The Italian side of my family never did artichokes in any form at all.

In common parlance it is used the same as ‘hypothesis’, that is, an educated guess.

In science it means, “the structure of this portion of the universe that best describes all observed phenomena to date.”
