National Review on Creationist Caveman Paul Broun: “Quirky and Colorful”

Demented creationist throwback feels he was chosen by the Lord
Wingnuts • Views: 29,655

At the National Review today, we find a brainless fluff piece about one of the most deranged Republicans in Congress: Can Paul Broun Win?

Author Betsy Woodruff admires Paul Broun’s “quirkiness and candor,” and his penchant for saying “colorful” things like this:

  • “The Constitution I uphold and defend is the one I carry in my pocket all the time, the U.S. Constitution. I don’t know what Constitution that other members of Congress uphold, but it’s not this one. I think the only Constitution that Barack Obama upholds is the Soviet constitution, not this one.”
  • “All that stuff I was taught about evolution, embryology, the Big Bang theory, all that is lies straight from the pit of Hell. And it’s lies to try to keep me and all the folks who were taught that from understanding that they need a savior.”
  • “I don’t believe that the Earth’s but about 9,000 years old. I believe it was created in six days as we know them. That’s what the Bible says.”
  • “I was the first member of Congress to call [President Obama] a socialist who embraces Marxist-Leninist policies like government control of health care and redistribution of wealth.”

That wacky, irrepressible caveman has a direct line to the Almighty, of course, and he knows that the Man Upstairs has called on him to be a Congressman.

He speaks for the religious Right. In the South, religion and politics have always been separated by only the thinnest of walls, and in Broun’s case, the line between religious and political fervor is particularly slim. “He really believes that the Lord wanted him to be a congressman,” says a source close to Broun.

But these aren’t his only lovable qualities! Broun also likes to kill animals, lots of them.

Broun remains an avid hunter. When I stopped by his Hill office, the first thing I noticed was that hunting trophies covered almost every wall. When he had to move offices a few months ago, the movers made quite a scene parading the heads of wild animals through the halls of the Rayburn House Office Building.

Broun doesn’t hunt just for the trophies. “If I shoot it, I’m gonna eat it,” he says. His warthog was particularly toothsome. “It’s actually pork,” he explains. “I had roast warthog, it was cooked in a French style. I’m a French cook myself, and I like to cook things with some fancy sauces and stuff that I’ll make at home. That was excellent.”

The only thing he didn’t especially care for was the lion. “The lion wasn’t particularly tasty,” he says. “It was kind of chewy, but I ate it too.”

The very model of a modern day Republican!

“Quirkiness” and “candor” in wingnut world translate to “braindead” in the regular world.

These are the kind of guys the GOP is afraid to distance itself from for fear of alienating its “base”.

And they are only getting more vocal and demanding.

Beck: ‘It’s All About Hidden Clues’

For Glenn Beck, nothing is ever what is seems and so when President Obama travels to Israel, it cannot be because that is just the sort of thing that presidents do, but rather because there is some nefarious agenda at work.

As Beck sees it, Obama already won the election and has no intention of changing any of his positions on issues pertaining to Israel or the region, so there is no reason for him to travel there … but he did, and so there must be a hidden reason.

Beck found that hidden reason in a piece that suggests that Obama’s visit there is designed to strengthen the Muslim Brotherhood and undermine Israel, as he and Rabbi Daniel Lapin agreed that the fact that Obama will not be speaking to the Knesset “conveys a message in terms of hidden clues throughout the Arab Street [that] Obama does not recognize the political and democratic legitimacy of the Israeli government”:

How The Union’s Victory in the Civil War Led to Gay Marriage

Apparently the reason we aren’t following God’s moral code on the issue of marriage or other social issues, according to Peroutka, is because of the Unions victory in the Civil War, or as he called it: “The War Between the States.”

He argued that the South’s defeat opened the door to a “huge black hole of centralized power,” which means that people began looking to the government, rather than God, as the source of their rights.

Peroutka said that “the real effect of the War and the Reconstruction after the war was to take the very foundation of our understanding of our rights away from us, that is to say that they come from God, and put them in the hands of men,” who can then change the meaning of concepts like marriage.

West Virginia paper’s anti-LGBT column wants death for ‘n*ggers, spics, kikes and wops’

WCHS-TV reported on Wednesday that the Lincoln Journal had come under fire for printing a transcript of a reader’s voice mail comments in the “Gripe and Gratitudes” section of the paper.

The reader referenced a recent report about how the Lincoln County Board of Education had terminated lesbian teacher Kelli Burns from her job at Guyan Valley Middle School teacher after she accused board officials of forcing students to write complaints that she had tried to “turn them gay.”

“We were really glad to hear that School Board is getting rid of them queers,” the voice mail said. “The next thing is we need to get rid of all the n****rs, the spics, the kikes and the wops.”

“You know even them Catholics, they are wrong as baby eaters,” the reader continued. “We need to clear them people out and have good, white, God fearing Christians and everybody else needs to be put to death for their abominations.”

“We’ll keep Lincoln County white and right. Thank you.”

Get ready for the mother of all right wing anti-Obama freakouts: Barack Obama Just Gave a Historic Speech in Israel.

But the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and justice must also be recognized. Put yourself in their shoes – look at the world through their eyes. It is not fair that a Palestinian child cannot grow up in a state of her own, and lives with the presence of a foreign army that controls the movements of her parents every single day. It is not just when settler violence against Palestinians goes unpunished. It is not right to prevent Palestinians from farming their lands; to restrict a student’s ability to move around the West Bank; or to displace Palestinian families from their home. Neither occupation nor expulsion is the answer. Just as Israelis built a state in their homeland, Palestinians have a right to be a free people in their own land.

They’re going to go completely nuts over this.

I bought our first LED a few weeks ago. Probably around $20. You’d be hard pressed to see a color difference between it and an incandescent. It works in a ceiling fan and is dimmable. Great combination and it’s instant on too.

I only have a few incandescents left in the house, and they’re all on dimmers. Once those bulbs go out, I’ll be switching over to LEDs. The rest are CFLs and as I finish those, I’ll switch to LED too. Then, it will be a while before I ever have to buy new bulbs. And the cost savings is considerable over the life of the bulbs too. With energy prices rising, it’s a winning proposition.

So what he’s saying is he hunts to eat. That’s why he flies to other countries and likely pays big $ for the opportunity to shoot animals not normally considered for food by the local folk, then pays more big $ to send off the carcass to the taxidermist to mount the head or skin for a trophy.

But it’s not a trophy. He just wants to taste me. Riiight.

This is the intellectual dishonesty of the GOP. This is the morally corrupt force destroying the country, anti-intellectualism, not the breakdown of the family or rejection of faith. The NR hacks are merely the PR wing of the theocrats.

In China and other countries in the Far East, there has been an astronomical rise in the demand for ivory trinkets that, no matter how exquisitely made, have no essential utility whatsoever. Video - Blind boy takes first step off curb with cane

It started off as a normal day for Gavin Stevens, a 4-year-old who was born blind. His mom, Jennifer Stevens, picked him up from his Eastvale, Calif. preschool, and was prepared to do what she usually does: hold her young son’s hand, guiding him off the curb. This time was different, however. When she went to help Gavin, he suddenly told his mother, “No, I’ll do it.”

And then, just to add insult to injury… Pfizer got the property, bulldozed the houses, then decided not to build their office park after all (it was the same time as the financial collapse.

So people lost their houses for nothing, and the city lost property tax revenue and got stuck with the legal fees.

I remember a Supereme Court decision that set a precedent on this case. Problem with any sort of private enterprise is that there is no guarantee of enhanced revenue or public benefit from seizure, as opposed to a projuect such as a road, bridge or hospital that is designed to be used by all.

Poll: Rubio’s Standing Takes Hit At Home, Fla. Voters Opposed To 2016 Bid

At a time when Sen. Marco Rubio’s national profile continues to grow, a poll released Thursday found the Florida Republican’s standing at home has slipped in recent months.

The poll from Democratic-leaning Public Policy Polling showed Rubio with an approval rating that’s barely above water. Forty-four percent of Florida voters approve of the job their junior senator and potential 2016 contender is doing, while 43 percent disapprove.

It marks a notable drop from Rubio in the Sunshine State since PPP’s previous survey there in January. At that time, Rubio boasted a strong approval rating: 49 percent of Florida voters approved, while 36 percent said they disapproved.

More accurately Fed Law doesn’t allow for the taking of firearms without an opportunity for the subject to at least receive notice to appear at a hearing. The question is should a single allegation with no opportunity to respond be enough to strip a person of their constitutional rights, and if it is, should that tro be part of a person’s permanent record if/when it’s not sustained at a full hearing. Right now it’s public permanent record and can’t be expunged, even if at the full hearing the the tro is found to be baseless.

I know I keep repeating myself, but I really think the GOP fight in 2016 will be between Cruz and Bush. Though I will admit that if Rand keeps finessing these compromises and cross-party appeals he may be a bigger spoiler than his father was.

Chris Christie Undecided on Pseudo-‘Therapy’ Practices that Electrocute Gay Children

WTF?

I never heard of this therapy.

The fact that he’s “undecided” should remind everyone that Chris Christie for all his recent level-headed behavior is still a bit of a jerk. Really, dude, just say no. It’s not that hard.

re: #184 Interesting Times

On a somewhat related note, perhaps you might be able to better explain this person’s thought process - it’s something I ran into on another forum (completely unrelated to politics, though occasionally that gets covered when posts wander off-topic)

The woman said she was in her late 50s, and a rape survivor (attack happened when she was in college, I think). She claimed to be an “original” or “traditional” feminist, who can’t stand the modern version that “hates men” (whatever that means). She also appears to be a republican who said she might vote for Sarah Palin if she hadn’t been “Dan Quayled”! o_O

*mah head asplode*

She (I think) means by all that she isn’t a lesbian or butch-type. There are some feminists that have been so disillusioned by the patriarchy, they really can’t stand men. That does not mean they are gay. The woman in your forum is an idiot.

Except that once the weapons are returned the record is expunged.

Bias alert - I have known more than woman shot by her ex. As the article says (read it) some cases it is the TRO effect, others it is judges not ordering despite women mentioning weapons and fears and history, sometimes it’s a failure to perform by police.

Your kneejerk response missed all those points mentioned in the aeticle - to include the federal provision. How about suggesting a way to resolve the fact that so mandomestic deaths are post-order using firearms?

David Barton Explains Just War Theory: ‘We Had to Destroy Indian Tribes’ Until They Became Civilized

Today on “WallBuilders Live,” David Barton was discussing just war theory which, in his unique interpretation, essentially boiled down to the view that whatever you need to do to end a conflict and protect the lives of your citizens and soldiers is justified.

To demonstrate his point, Barton said that Native Americans declared war on “all the white guys” because missionaries tried to convince them to stop torturing their enemies but they resisted these efforts to civilize them “so we had to go in an destroy Indian tribes all over” until they got the message.

Barton followed that up by defending the practice of wiping out the buffalo on the western plains because it decimated the livelihoods of Native Americans and thereby brought to an end their resistance to the US government:

No, you’re right. Ford had Dole who ended up being the nominee twenty years later. I think their field’s problem is that Republican voters tend to go “next in line.” I do think 2016 will be the first time they will deviate from that because I just don’t see Santorum getting the nomination. I don’t think he’s tight enough with the corporate big wigs to do that. But then again, if you had told me last January that Santorum was going to be a thorn in Romney’s back until April, I’d laugh.

No it isn’t. Restraining orders are matters of public record in a Civil Court and can thus never be expunged. Expunged is a term solely reserved to criminal proceedings. If you’re very, very, incredibly lucky you might be able to successfully petition the presiding Judge at the time the order is vacated to seal the court records, but that’s rare and by no means automatic.
