Texas GOP Rep. Stockman: “Best Thing About Earth Is if You Poke Holes in It Oil and Gas Come Out”

Stupid party

Remember when creationist Gov. Bobby Jindal said the GOP needed to stop being the “stupid party?”

How’s that going?

The worst thing about Rep. Stockman is that when he opens his mouth, stupid flows out

Stockman is the Texas loon who threatened to file articles of impeachment against Obama over his gun control ideas.

GOP congressman Stockman calls VAWA ‘horrible’ bill that helps ‘men dressed up as women’

“This is helping the liberals, this is horrible. Unbelievable. What really bothers — it’s called a women’s act, but then they have men dressed up as women, they count that. Change-gender, or whatever. How is that — how is that a woman?”

This is just the latest of Stockman comments since he decided to return after a 16- year absence:

On Jan. 14, he threatened – and quickly walked back – impeachment if President Obama pursued gun control laws.
The next day, he compared President Obama to Saddam Hussein.
The night of Feb. 12, Stockman invited Ted Nugent to the “State of the Union.” One of Nugent’s greatest hits that night was to call out one Democratic congressman for having “s**t for brains.”

12 Sol Berdinowitz  Thu, Mar 21, 2013 12:55:56pm

Problem is, he truly represents the “base” which the GOP cannot afford to alienate.

13 Kronocide  Thu, Mar 21, 2013 12:57:00pm

The best thing about the GOP is they can’t help but espouse what they believe. That’s why this rebranding talk is so funny.

14 Bulworth  Thu, Mar 21, 2013 12:58:14pm

“This is helping the liberals, this is horrible….”

That’s all you need to read to know anything of what follows. It helps liberals, those people? Then it’s bad, “horrible”, “unbelievable”.

15 KiTA  Thu, Mar 21, 2013 12:59:00pm

I am going to admit to something shameful: I chuckled a bit at this joke.

16 dragonath  Thu, Mar 21, 2013 12:59:15pm

17 Bulworth  Thu, Mar 21, 2013 12:59:47pm
The night of Feb. 12, Stockman invited Ted Nugent to the “State of the Union.”

Ah, that explains it.

18 Kragar (Antichrist )  Thu, Mar 21, 2013 1:01:16pm

Steve Stockman Is the Nuttiest Freshman in Congress—Again

The Texas congressman, who is three weeks into his second term after a 16-year hiatus from the House, is almost certainly the only member of Congress to have been caught with 30 mg of valium hidden in a cellophane wrapper in his underwear. He’s defended militia groups; accused an attorney general of “premeditated murder”; appeared on a Holocaust-denying radio program; waged a one-man war against Alfred Kinsey; compared his constituents—favorably—to Branch Davidians; and traveled to Denmark to protest climate change while wearing a red blindfold. The man who bested his 2012 opponent by 44 points isn’t the most ballyhooed of incoming lawmakers. He’s just the nuttiest.

19 Bulworth  Thu, Mar 21, 2013 1:01:17pm
“This is helping the liberals, this is horrible.

OK, well then let’s not do it. Yes, it will help women, but if it somehow ends up helping liberals then let’s not do it. That would be “horrible”. /

20 erik_t  Thu, Mar 21, 2013 1:01:21pm

This would be a funny joke if it were made in private by someone who weren’t a sitting congressman.

Unfortunately, three of those things are not the case.

23 Sol Berdinowitz  Thu, Mar 21, 2013 1:03:22pm

The GOP base is also convinced that it has a monompoly on truth and righteousness. That coupled with their constant vying to show who has the purest conservative creds, means they will never learn to shut up long enough to win elections.

They will doom the party to regional obscurity.

24 HappyWarrior  Thu, Mar 21, 2013 1:04:02pm

This is the guy who had Ted Nugent as his guest too. I was not aware that Stockman had been in Congress in the past though.

I actually have one friend who IS moving to Canada. House is sold and she is packing.

No joke.

I’m so proud of her. Mainly for doing what she said she was going to do. Something all the celebrities seem unable to do.

43 lawhawk  Thu, Mar 21, 2013 1:14:58pm

There’s this gem:

He’s busy claiming that the NOAA is manipulating climate data again, and that the hockey stick isn’t real. His cite? Powerline, which isn’t a climatology blog or run by climatologists, but a couple of MN lawyers. They’re citing to Anthony Watts, but he’s to climatology as Unskewed Polls was to Nate Silver’s 538 polling predictions. Which is to say that he’s not only wrong, but spectacularly so.

Catholic Cardinal Who Said Homosexuality Was ‘Moral Degradation’ Reportedly Had A Boyfriend

A recently-resigned cardinal with a reputation for being anti-gay may have had a long-running physical relationship with another man, according to new reports.

The scandal began earlier this year when reports that Scottish Cardinal Keith O’Brien had “inappropriate contact” with male priests appeared in the British press. O’Brien, the highest ranking Catholic in the UK, resigned the next week, admitting that his “sexual conduct has fallen below the standards expected of me.”

O’Brien’s resignation letter, however, remained quite vague as to what he had done wrong.

New reports published in the Scottish Herald, however, suggest that O’Brien had a “long-standing physical relationship” with one of the men whose accusations went public.

“The complainant is known to have been in regular telephone contact with Cardinal O’Brien until recently,” the paper writes, “and was a frequent visitor to St Benets, his official residence in Edinburgh’s Morningside.”

O’Brien is reported to have admitted to the relationship.

No Powerball winner? Officials watch $320M jackpot

Viola Mourton buys a Powerball ticket every day. But with a $320 million jackpot that could grow in the next few days, she’s upping her chances Thursday and buying several at her local convenience store.

“It’s just a chance to win big money,” said the 51-year-old secretary from Ottumwa, Iowa. “I’ll probably buy a couple today because it’s so high. But it only takes one to win.

If it only takes one to win, why are you buying so many?

[…]

The jackpot is the sixth highest in history, but it could grow depending on sales at the end of each day, said Mary Neubauer, spokeswoman for the Iowa Lottery, one of the founding Powerball states.

[…]

“We’ve seen a little more traffic than we usually do. Saturday will be the busy day,” said Abbey Locatis, a customer service clerk at a central Omaha grocery store that sells more Powerball tickets than any other retailer in the state.

[…]

How does the store handle the crush of ticket buyers?

We just keep printing them,” Locatis said. “We usually have three people behind the counter, so we’re able to keep up.”

Just like Federal Reserve Notes? (Ok, that one was for the Paulians….)

The search is on for the next lucky winner or winners. Neubauer said there’s universal appeal to the possibility of winning the top prize.

If I were made King of the Language there are a few phrases that would absolutely make it onto the ban-by-decree list. “The search is on for the next lucky winner” is definitely one of them. Few sentences have been so craftily constructed to exploit human stupidity as that one.

Well, ” The best thing about the Earth is if you poke holes in it oil and gas come out.” also qualifies, I guess.

Boehner Pledges To Keep Country In Perpetual Crisis: Intends To Take Debt Ceiling Hostage Again

Right after the House of Representatives approved a Senate bill to avert a government shutdown, House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) set the stage for another down-to-the-wire crisis that will threaten the nation’s economic growth. At his weekly press conference, Boehner indicated that Republicans would again demand spending cuts in exchange for raising the nation’s debt ceiling, which it is set to hit in May.

Boehner said Republicans would only raise the debt ceiling if they got an equal amount of spending cuts, the Huffington Post reports:

“Dollar for dollar is the plan,” Boehner told reporters, adding that there have been no major talks on the debt limit at this point.

“The president has been clear that he’s not going to address our entitlement crisis unless we’re willing to raise taxes. I think the tax issue has been resolved,” said Boehner. “So at this point then, I don’t know how we’re going to go forward.”

Fuck you Boehner

Actually, while I do think we are stewards of the Earth, I don’t think the Planet is in danger.

It’s going to kill us before we kill it.

Survival of the Fittest.

I’ve probably mentioned this before, but I’m fond of the ‘don’t foul your own nest argument’ for taking climate change seriously.

The planet will definitely survive anything anything we can do to it with our current level of technology. Whether or not it remains basically fit for human habitation is the point that is in question.

130 CriticalDragon1177  Thu, Mar 21, 2013 3:39:40pm

Charles Johnson,

You’re right this is pretty stupid. Its not like every other planet in the solar system would require us to ware spacesuits and create some kind of artificial habitat just so that any life could survive there for even a day. In fact we not have the technology to live on Venus even centuries from now, since we’d have to find a way to protect us from the intense heat and pressure, unless we get really good at terraforming. Also, planets that are really close or really far from their stars will probably never be habitable, no matter how advanced we become.

How does Stockman know God didn’t put the oil and gas there to tempt us? “Will you continue to take the quick and easy path to meeting your energy requirements, no matter how damaging it is to the environment?” These are the same people who tell us we should resist the temptation of easy premarital sex, that we should see all pregnancies through and resist the temptation of getting an abortion, that we should always take responsibility and unfailingly make right choices and sacrifices so we never have to get government help. They are also the people who tell us to take care of our things. This is supposed to be the whole Republican/Conservative gig, that they’re the “grownups” who can make the hard decisions and the sacrifices unlike those immature libs who want to have their cake and eat it too. But continuing to tear up the planet and render much of it unfit for habitation? That’s cool, dude!
