Oh, brother. I’m a huge Pink Floyd fan. How disappointing.

Roger Waters: Boycott against Israel is ‘way to go

Former Pink Floyd bass player Roger Waters has asked fellow musicians to boycott Israel and asserted that the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) campaign against Israel was “the most effective way to go.”

In an interview with The Electronic Intifada, Waters accused Israel of being an “apartheid regime,” and said sanctions like those imposed in the past on South Africa are the only way to handle the situation in the Palestinian territories.

Waters also told The Electronic Intifada that he is planning on publishing an open letter addressed to his musician colleagues worldwide, asking them to join the BDS movement and refuse to perform in Israel and at Israeli events worldwide.

The one foreign place I have often wished to perhaps retire or emigrate to is Australia. Live there and do what I do for any firm on the Pacific Rim. Or at least get there at the end of North America summer and fly back at the end of Aussie summer.

Afternoon Lizardim. Won’t be around for long - have a build-for-hire project whose parts arrived this afternoon, and I need to get it done so I can get it over and set up ASAP. But I thought I’d hang out among the lizardfolk while I eat dinner. How go things in the war on derp?

Holy fucking shit.

Over the weekend the Portland Press Herald reported on and released a video of Capt. Shawn Welch at the Maine Correction Center pepper-spraying a restrained inmate in the face and leaving him in distress for more than twenty minutes while he repeatedly pleaded that he could not breath. The inmate was reportedly recovering from a self-inflicted wound and on several medications for bipolar disorder and depression at the time when officers in protective gear placed him in a restraining chair for medical personnel to examine his wounds.

After he was physically restrained in the chair, he struggled as guards pinned his head under an arm, at which point Welch used a pepper spray canister intended for multiple subjects at a 18 to 20 feet range to spray the inmate in the face at close range. Welch was initially fired by the institution’s supervisor, but reinstated with a 30-day suspension by Maine Corrections Commissioner Joseph Ponte.

Suspension? How the fuck is this guy not in jail?

Disappointing but not surprising. Waters has been doing his BSD nonsense for years now. He’s got renewed interest and media attention because it’s the 40th anniversary of the Dark Side of the Moon album. He’s trying to make the most (money) out of the opportunity.

Could you add a worm or worm hole to that. Just checked and there was an upgrade from Safari 5.0.2 to 5.1.7 available. Not once was I informed by the software that an upgrade was available for download.

Now I just hope that the upgrade takes care of the random crashes that the previous version liked to engage in. I:E Safari has quit working and needs to restart……..

Abbas had a bad day today.

AP PHOTOS: Obama’s rejection on settlements deals visible setback to Palestinian leader

JERUSALEM — In eight years on the job, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has seen his share of ups and downs. Thursday’s appearance with visiting U.S. President Barack Obama looked like it was one of his lowest points.

At a joint news conference, Obama delivered a stinging rejection to Abbas’ key demand that Israel stop building settlements before peace talks resume.

…As the animated Obama explained his positions, the subdued Abbas looked on with a blank expression. When it was his turn to speak, Abbas held his ground, publicly disagreeing with his visitor. An aide later acknowledged Abbas was disappointed.

Heh.

51 jamesfirecat  Thu, Mar 21, 2013 4:42:29pm

Well that profoundly sucked.

I was just a victim of a crime for the first time in my life.

I got my ipad snatched on the metro, (as we were coming into a stop guy comes up behind me grabs it and runs through doors) gave chase but was stupid enough not to bring my backpack which had my wallet in it.

The backpack got dropped off at another metro station but when I picked it up again my wallet was gone. What’s weird is that in the same pouch as I had my wallet I had a loose twenty dollar bill floating around and that $20 was still in there… so I guess whoever took the wallet didn’t want to be too obvious or whatever. (Maybe they just wanted it to try and get in contact with me and tell me where they dropped the last of my backpack, but I really REALLY doubt that)

Also was stupid enough not to bother to password code the ipad so I just changed all the passwords on my email and what not accounts.

Only good news is my parents are awesome (already have new ipad on my lap chiefly because we’re going to Europe tommorrow…).

The worst part is that while I realize that there are tons of stuff I’m going to do in the future to make sure it never happens again (sit/stand at back of train, just use ipad for music/books with it in backpack rather than hands) it’s not like I’m ever going to get to smrkingly look at someone and taunt them because they can’t steal it.

Long time reader, first time commenter.
I’ve noticed, Mr. Johnson, that occasionally you’ll post something about what’s happening in the comment sections of conservative websites. Mediaite isn’t the Blaze or Breitbart, but the comment sections can be fascinating.
It might be worth checking out the comments in response to an article on the brouhaha over what happened at the “Trump the Race Card: Are you tired of being called a racist when you aren’t one?” session at CPAC.

You’ll find plenty of conservatives in the comment section insisting that they aren’t racist or that what went down there wasn’t racist. However you’ll also find one commenter who insists that genocide is being carried out against white people. Anti-racism, he declares repeatedly, is just a code word for anti-white. Totally bonkers. Plenty of people have either challenged or criticized or outright mocked this guy. But what’s interesting is that none of them are conservatives. Not one. And there are plenty on that site.

As another commenter pointed out, it’s very telling. Conservatives don’t believe themselves to be racist. But they clearly have little interest in combating racism.

I wish. Though that movie did flash through my mind after.

We were doing boarder patrol in a snowstorm. Young LT holding a map. Me driving where he told me to, older SSG in the back not really paying attention till he saw a barn they used to use as a artillery registration point. He yells stop, unzips the back window on the old M551 Jeep and makes me backup in my tracks. About 20 minutes of slow careful backward driving later he points out the boarder sign & the one below it saying “Warning: Mines!”. The LT later turned into the best map reader in the company ;)

Next time I got to the gasthous I put away a fair bit of Tucker Dunkelweiss…

Senate Votes 40-59 To Reject Ryan Budget

The Senate voted 40-59 to reject the Paul Ryan budget on Thursday night.

Republican Sens. Mike Lee (UT), Ted Cruz (TX), Dean Heller (NV), Susan Collins (ME) and Rand Paul (KY) joined a unified Democratic caucus in voting against it. Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) missed the vote.

Republicans did not offer the Ryan budget; Senate Budget Chair Patty Murray (D-WA) forced the vote by bringing up the plan as a substitute to her own Democratic budget.

“There seemed to be some resistance among my Republican colleagues in bringing up the House Republican budget for a vote. And it’s pretty easy to see why that is,” she said in a floor speech before the vote. “The House Republican approach has been thoroughly reviewed and just as thoroughly rejected by the American people.”

Yeah, I love that the Dems forced the vote to get it on record. The more they can do that this year, the more it will help in next years campaigns.

Indeed. The cherry on top was that this sucker passed the House without a single Dem vote.

Now comes the inevitable effort to kill the Senate bill via filibuster, with Republicans making the usual noises about “balanced budget” this and “no new revenue” that.

I heard he said he’s going to hold his breath until entitlements are cut.

Did one better today, he’s taken up the same hostage as 2 years ago, but this time he really means it.

House Republicans: “If You Don’t Lower Taxes We’ll Shoot This Dog”

Leaders of both parties were meeting to end the impasse and had just opened the meeting when Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-OH) gave a whistle. A door opened and a Labrador retriever-English setter mix walked into the room.

“This is a dog,” Boehner said, lifting the dog up and setting him on a table. “And this is a Magnum.” Here he pulled out a revolver concealed inside his suit coat, and a number of startled Democrats recoiled and took cover.

“And these are negotiations,” Boehner continued, pointing the firearm at the dog, which whimpered and relieved itself on the table. “I don’t think I need to say much else. It’s in your hands.”

Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-MD) noted that the gun was actually in Boehner’s hand.

“It’s in your hands,” he repeated as he re-holstered the gun and walked toward the door. “Come on, Barkmann.” The dog hopped off the table and followed obligingly while Boehner told her she was a good girl. An intern scurried over to the table with a plastic bag and paper towels to clean up the mess left behind.

Senate Votes 40-59 To Reject Ryan Budget

Republican Sens. Mike Lee (UT), Ted Cruz (TX), Dean Heller (NV), Susan Collins (ME) and Rand Paul (KY) joined a unified Democratic caucus in voting against it. Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) missed the vote.

Looks like the crazy, the rational and the weird have finally found something they can agree on.
