Former SC GOP Director Kincannon to Iraq War Vet: “Shame You Didn’t Come Home in a Body Bag”

Wingnuts • Views: 58,863

Former South Carolina GOP executive director Todd Kincannon shows his support for the US military in a tweet about Iraq War veteran and anti-war activist Mike Prysner, demonstrating once again that special mean-spirited hatefulness so beloved of the American right wing:

Kincannon is very popular with right wingers; he has more than 36,000 followers on Twitter. And his timeline is a non-stop stream of sexism, racism, and ugly hate speech. The perfect representative of the modern day Republican.

Also of note, this is the same guy who was on the #TGDN claiming that he needed donations to keep his efforts going, as well as that he wanted people to go and intern for him on Twitter to help with his nonsensical ravings.

Well, lo and behold, he reveals a clear hatred for anyone who doesn’t share his inane views, including soldiers who have done service in the US military. I’m not shocked, nor surprised, by any of this.

I was in the Apple Store at the Genius Bar in King of Prussia. A couple of National Guards people came in for some service with an iPhone. Those two got quite a few people thanking them for there service including me. It is a good thing he did not walk into that store. He would have had a fight on his hands.

29 Eclectic Cyborg  Sun, Mar 24, 2013 11:24:23am

My grandfather was in the Royal Canadian Navy and served during the
Second World War.

He taught me a lot about war, politics, duty and honor but one of the first, FIRST things he taught me when I was a young boy was how important it is to respect the sacrifices of those who put their lives on the line so we can can continue to enjoy the freedoms we so cherish.

He talked of how, in 1942, before Pearl Harbor, he and the other allied soldiers found themselves in a place where German victory seemed very likely and the free world, as they knew it, would never exist again. When Allied victory finally came, he said he couldn’t put into words how thankful he was that freedom still reigned.

I was vehemently against the Iraq War and even attended a few anti-war protests, but at the same time I had the utmost respect for those who chose to serve during that time, because they weren’t part of the politics and diplomatic maneuvering that led to the war, they were just men and women who had taken an oath to fight for and, if necessary, die for their country and what it stood for.

I would never, EVER wish a veteran never came home. That is absolutely horrid and an insult to every man and woman who has ever put on the uniform.

Gary Bauer: ‘Polls are skewed’ if they support marriage equality

The president of a conservative organization which opposes rights for LGBT people on Sunday rejected the notion that public opinion now supports marriage equality because “the polls are skewed.”

Speaking to American Values President Gary Bauer, Fox News host Chris Wallace wondered if conservatives should oppose the federal government interfering in states’ rights by refusing to recognize the legal marriages of LGBT Americans.

“I don’t think so,” Bauer insisted. “A lot of people are changing their mind because there’s been a full-court blitz by the popular culture, by elites, by all kinds of folks to intimidate and to cower people and to no longer defend marriage as being between a man and a woman.”

47 lawhawk  Sun, Mar 24, 2013 11:45:42am

Ah the Chairborne Rangers are busy trying to explain away Kincannon’s nonsensical ravings about wishing a returning soldier had died in Iraq.

Remember that it wasn’t so long ago that these same right wingers were busy complaining that the left wasn’t out there supporting the troops after Vietnam and that they weren’t true citizens or patriots.

What this incident reveals is that it’s all so much jingoism and political advantages to play against the left. Complain that the other isn’t sufficiently patriotic, and at the first moment that someone who did serve complains or writes something untoward about the right, wish them dead? That’s a winning argument when you’re 2 years old, but Kincannon is a former GOP leader from SC.

Oh wait, that’s because he’s the former GOP leader it’s okay to wish former soldiers death in Iraq and that their only regret is that an Iraqi sniper didn’t kill them.

I just saw an old episode of All in the Family on you-tube. What cracked me up was not only how much Archie Bunker sounds just like the current Tea Party rabble, but also that a lot of commenters——-to dumb to see how Bunker’s ignorance is lampooned on the show——-seemed to think that he was tellin’ it like it is. (You’d think that the laugh track would be a subtle hint….)

When the show first aired it helped create a society when people became embarrassed to voice certain opinions. The anonymity of the internet and the way the web helps like-minded folks to ferret each other out has emboldened people to reveal their ongoing bigotry and ignorance.

re: #46 Kragar (Antichrist )

No, most people realize that there’s something fundamentally unfair about limiting the rights of a particular group because of sexual orientation, and the institution of marriage isn’t threatened by allowing gays to get married.

Newt Gingrich threatens the institution of marriage all by himself, as well as any of the holier than thou socon types who go on to commit adultery and hike the Appalachian Trail.

The GOP stalwarts are resisting gay marriage because their core constituency is made up of older regionalized voters from the South and West, and aren’t exactly going to help them carry national elections. They can rationalize away the decision, but in the end, it’s a losing cause for the GOP. But that wont stop them from trying.

52 Shiplord Kirel  Sun, Mar 24, 2013 11:49:59am

Kincannon is 31. Why wasn’t he there himself?

Never mind. Limbaugh, Nugent, and a cast of thousands (of chicken-shit chicken-hawks) have already answered that question.

Again, I have no problem with those who avoided Vietnam service out of a principled stand against the war. Those who did so because they were afraid (hell, we were all afraid), or they were too busy with career building, or (more likely) they thought it was for low-class suckers, have nothing but my contempt.

Researchers link ‘unfounded’ wars to increased risk of PTSD

New research suggests that post-traumatic stress disorder is linked to social morality, a finding that helps elucidate the relationship between politics and veterans’ mental health.

“The clinical psychological literature suggests that a key factor in PTSD experienced by soldiers at war is the guilt that is experienced from perpetrated acts of violence that violate moral standards,” the study’s lead author, David Webber of the University of Alberta, explained to Raw Story. “This is why in our study we focused on guilt-related symptoms. In the sense that killing is deemed immoral in most cases, and soldiers are asked to kill, it’s only if a soldier is able to view that killing as different or acceptable (i.e., moral), that guilt should not arise.”

The study, to be published in the April issue of the Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, found that social consensus played an important role in feelings of guilt. The research was co-authored by Jeff Schimell, Andy Martens, Joseph Hayes, and Erik H. Fauche.

OTOH, the RW is all over the concept of politics defining popular culture and, as set forth by Palin and Breitbart, popular culture will drive politics to a new conservative powerhouse.

Or something…

I think it has something to do with that weird Seven Mountains Dominionist plan for taking over the world.

Bauer’s remark is a one-man circular firing squad.

Culture is a human construct. Popular culture is the version of culture enjoyed by a majority of people. A majority of people have decided that gay marriage is OK. So by Bauer’s ‘thinking’, the majority of people have ‘blitzed’ themselves into this belief.

It’s so stupid I can’t even deconstruct it.

I think one idea should be salvaged from the older version of Libertarianism, that it’s wrong for society to punish victimless crimes.

The newer Republican Libertarians like Ron Paul, seem to feel that people have no rights, they just think that they can use Libertarianism to deny power to the federal government so that they can take all rights away from the individual and give states total totalitarian power, thus making the racial, sexist, sexual and religious discrimination these cavemen favor possible again

Libertarianism once meant liberty (and, sadly, no taxation) on the people. Now it means totalitarian control at the state level, no federal government, and more money for the rich.

No matter Archie’s loudmouthed and bigoted opinions, I get the feeling his character would never have tolerated burning a cross on a neighbor’s lawn.

In his character’s worldview, that would be an ugly and unamerican thing to do. At his character’s core, he was essentially a decent human being, despite his ignorance.

Apparently when politicians go on jaunts to non-christian, non-muslim countries where people don’t tend to report seeing someone with a ho, it’s pretty common for them to get their freak on. Republicans so included.

Well, of course it occurs to me that there was no evidence that the article didn’t just make up everything it said. It was some sort of editorial, I forget which paper, possibly a big one.

Google shows that there is no copy of it online.

It may also have mentioned Larry Flint’s call for people to rat on Republican politicians. He was also saying that plenty of them had cheated on their wives.

Heh, I also remember the prostitute who said that after she gave Newt Gingrich a blow job he kicked her out of the car with the threat that if she ever told anyone he’d have her killed.

At the same time Gingrich (who was AT THAT MOMENT cheating on his wife) was saying that he would “never give another speech that didn’t mention Monica Lewinsky” He was also saying that this is what happens when you let pot smoking perverts into the white house, and asking if Bill had ever snuck away to Cuba.

Archie went to war and came back and the world had changed. He didn’t get to go to college because he had to support his family. Then he met Edith and had Gloria and got caught-up in life. Who doesn’t?

Somehow in all of it he absorbed the basics of his Christian upbringing, but not the rhetoric. He knew right from wrong essentially. His world view was hijacked by a lot of things, I think it has a lot to do with the effects of war on society.

Yet, he went to work and came home every day. He didn’t break the law. I’m not sure he even broke the commandments. I can’t remember if he swore. did he?

He was ignorant, but not stupid.

Ignorant can learn, stupid can’t.

Maybe the very early “suburbs” around Chicago did, for example. However, today they are called the “inner suburbs” because these areas are right next to the major city limits, and the outer suburbs stretch on for quite a many miles.

…in Staffordshire, snow ploughs have been battling through drifts of up to 12ft on some exposed routes.

In Kent, a section of the White Cliffs of Dover, as well as a cliff-top bench and fencing, collapsed into the English Channel. The collapse is thought to have been triggered by high winds and freezing rain water, which causes cracks in the cliffs to expand.

People like this Kincannon pissant are potentially dangerous but they and most of the GOP really represent the dying gasp of a doomed sub-culture. They are fighting tooth and nail to turn back the clock; that is what makes them dangerous; but the time they seek to revive never really existed and the future is overwhelmingly against them. The demographic shift is inexorable, the powerless are being empowered.
In 2017, Hillary Clinton will succeed Obama as President, and the right as we know it will continue to fade, kicking and screaming all the way to the dustbin of history.
Obama and Clinton are both center-right by global standards. That is our natural and historical position as a country. We will continue to re-assert ourselves as global leaders of the center-right, even as we recover from 30+ years of agitation and mis-government by the myth-driven reactionaries and greed-driven charlatans of what has passed for the conservative movement.

The FAA is shutting 149 towers at airports where there are under a threshold number of movements a year. That’s takeoffs/landings, and are primarily involving smaller commercial or regional airports. Most of those towers can have services covered by other air traffic controllers.

The FAA has guidelines.

Part of the problem is that sequestration gave the FAA no leeway on where/how to cut, so they’ve got to cut everything across the board.

Brooklyn/Manhattan used to have a vibrant ferry service, until the Brooklyn Bridge was completed, which more or less put them out of business after 1883. NYC was incorporated in 1898, hastened by the construction of the bridge and subsequent subway and trolley construction.

After 9/11, ferries again became more integral to the transit network in the NYC metro area since the PATH tunnels to WTC were damaged; further ferry routes were instituted, and the rezoning of areas along the waterfront in NYC and NJ have resulted in new ferry service being successful. After Sandy, the ferries also showed their importance and worth as they could start to fill in the breach left by damage to multiple subway tunnels between Manhattan, New Jersey and Brooklyn.

Trivia note: The Brooklyn Dodgers were named after folks in Brooklyn who would dodge the trolleys that came down the streets all the time.

This one really astounded me. Direct link, also paged.

Kloog’s team published five studies altogether, including analyses at local and global levels, and all of them found firm correlations between circadian and melatonin disruption and higher risks of cancer. Analyzing NASA’s Defense Meteorological Satellite Program archive (to illuminate Earth’s light-at-night coverage) and data from the World Health Organization, Kloog’s group “found clearly that as women were more exposed to light at nighttime, their rates of breast cancer went up. Our Israel study found that going from minimum exposure to average exposure to light at night resulted in a 36 percent higher standard rate of breast cancer, and going from average to maximum was another 26 percent increase.”

The seretonin/melatonin stuff seems to be very important.

Without bacterial fermentation eating tapai made from cassava would restult in cyanide poisoning. They also ferment cassava in certain parts of Africa for the same reason. Farmers deliberately grow varietals containing cyanide because it’s less prone to be eaten by pests.

he outlived the scandal, though, and in 1932 made a series of two-reelers for warner bros, with shemp howard among the actors. these were successful enough for warners to sign him up for a full length movie in june 1933. fatty announced to the press “this is the best day of my life”

There are still a lot of people like that.

I was shocked to read a boingboing thread about a pornographer who the Bush administration targeted for an obscenity convinction (and eventually got him 5 years in prison by getting him to sell a DVD online and then getting a conviction based on “community standards” in the super conservative Florida district that they had him send the DVD to).

What shocked me was the moralists in the thread who mostly were in favor of the conviction. Why? Because he did very mild dominance videos with older man/young girl fantasies. Never mind that the actresses were all perfectly legal in their 20’s, some have websites where they promote the same image and more extreme porn, the whole thread was a bunch of white knights fantasizing about saving porn actresses.

I noticed plenty of people saying that young women need to be protected, that not all kinds of sex should become legal at 18 or even (more applicable to these actresses) 25 - ie they were somehow too young. And they refused to listen to the one or two subs who came on to point out that they enjoy/want this sort of treatment that people said was too degrading and deserved jail time…

Death After Comeback, II

you may never have heard of a certain ‘spade cooley’, once a famous country swing band leader. in the 40s he appeared in many westerns, and in the late 40s and early 50s he had a very popular tv show

in 1961, his career on the wane, he cruelly murdered his wife of 15 years, after hearing rumors that she was having an affair with roy rogers. he was convicted and served 8 years in the federal pen. i’ll let wikipedia tell the rest:

After he had served eight years, the state of California agreed to parole him on February 22, 1970. In November 1969, he received 72-hour furlough to play a benefit concert for the Deputy Sheriffs Association of Alameda County at the Oakland Auditorium, now known as the Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center, in Oakland. After the performance, on November 23, Cooley suffered a fatal heart attack in the backstage area.

re: #190 Shiplord Kirel

The only reason America is considered a “center right” nation, is because liberals don’t get credit for shit once it goes mainstream, like being in favor of marriage equality and against the Iraq war. The moderates and conservatives get to pretend they were on the right side all along even thought they didn’t do shit to make good things happen or shit to stop bad things from happening. Civil rights, women’s rights and on and on. Also, conservatives are never sufficiently punished for not only being wrong about important issues, but doing everything they can to hinder liberals who were right all along. That list is endless as well.

They live to freak out. The Islamist takeover is also something they can bring up to spew hate at the president. They’ll never say what should be done, of course, and no matter what the course the president charts they’ll rush to dub it a “failure”. They do this because:

1. Again, they enjoy freaking out, as Stanley said.

2. (for some, not all) It lets them avoid their real reason for hating Barack Obama: Because he’s a left-of-center black man.

What I dont understand is the republicans claim we are a center right country, and Obama is far left, a socialist even, (to them) yet he keeps getting elected POTUS.
Something is not quite right there.

Yet he was acquitted at his third trial, and received a letter of apology from the jury, but his life and career were destroyed in the process.

hey find the reasonable idea among the Republican plans. Find me one:

1) reduce revenues so we’ll be forced to end Medicaid, to cut Medicare deeply, to cut social security deeply. Call “insuring that the government goes broke faster ‘fiscal conservatism’” Lie about what economics entails so that people will vote to jump off the cliff.

2) try to shut down the EPA, claiming that having clean air and water is too much regulation.

3) pass “personhood” bills that outlaw the pill not just abortion. Ie, screw up the sex lives of 98% of straight people of fertile age

4) do everything possible to erase American legal history. Have law schools that elide the First Amendment from it so that you can claim that the US is supposed to be a theocracy

5) try to take away the right to divorce, bringing us back to the old days where couples had to invent crimes to accuse their spouse of to get out of a marriage.

6) oppose health care provisions for the poor based on position papers that claim that unmarried black mother are the cause of both high infant mortality rates and of children who will grow up to be criminals - implying that infant mortality must be encouraged for the good of society

7) try to impose religion, creationism, anti-science crap and bigoted versions of history in schools - try to get rid of the department of education to make that possible

8) promote the idea that the federal authority is unconstitutional as a ploy to get rid of civil rights legislation.

Pick one. good luck

No as if to it. They see themselves as America’s dominant tribe: socially, culturally, economically and numerically. They aren’t supposed to lose elections and political battles because of numbers alone. Only voter fraud, in their minds can explain it. It’s not just Obama being black, it’s that his coalition of voters is bigger than theirs. It’s just unimaginable on one hand and on the other they must reassert their dominance.

Our naval commanders have made clear we need those subs. There’s waste elsewhere, but not in numbers of submarines.

And we need more than other nations because we’ve got more responsibilities than other nations. And given that 20 percent of our sub fleet is in dockyard hands at most times, we need to have about 35% more subs in total than the number we need active at any given time.

This malodorous toad needs to have his twitter feed posted on a bill board for the good people of South Carolina. It needs to be printed out and nailed to every tree, every sign and door frame in the state.

I SO hope that at some point in the future this slime-trail leaving slug to run for office, so that all of these can come falling out of the memory hole.

Let’s not speak for everyone here. Comments like “typical Republican” shows your ignorance. Many of us support the right of others to speak freely, even if they don’t agree with your point of view.

I have “worn the uniform” and not only did I believe in what we were doing in Afghanistan, the man has a point on being anti-war for Iraq.

And I know what he’s feeling getting the brunt end of ignorance: My ex wife didn’t meet me at the airport when I came home for good. I had to get a cab. And on top of that, I came home to this:

Cocksuckers didn’t even have the balls to take off their masks and let me see who was protesting me.

I just tweeted Kincannon - his tagline on the Twitter page reads “The Honey Badger of American Politics” so I said “The Honey Wagon of American Politics”. If only that would cause him to fall into a coma.

Denigrating a war veteran for expressing an opposing point of view — behold the GOP’s interpretation of patriotism.
