Pamela Geller Cites Holocaust Denial Group as Source for Attack on ADL

Geller accuses ADL of being anti-Israel - by citing an antisemitic hate group
Wingnuts • Views: 27,611

In other Pamela Geller news, she’s been spewing hatred at the Anti-Defamation League for calling her out, and earlier today she posted another attack on them — and cited a Holocaust denial group as a source: ADL CONDEMNS PAMELA GELLER AND …..ISRAEL - Atlas Shrugs.

Here’s a screenshot; the link in that last paragraph goes to the vile Institute for Historical Review:

Here’s a Google cache of the antisemitic article to which she linked: Anti-Defamation League Suffers Major Legal Defeat.

And here’s a cache of her page at WebCite, because she’ll probably try to delete this and pretend it never happened.

Pam Geller has truly hit a new low: She’s gotten so unable to take criticism that she’ll even use material from those who hate her to attack a critic.

Pure Filth.

The entire anti-Islam industry is rooted in recycling anti-Semitic tropes, and has consistently rubbed elbows with organizations rooted in European anti-Semitism and Nazism. This is not a surprising development.

Pam is bugshit crazy, a nutcase, and completely disassociated from reality.

But I will ignore any post concerning her on this board from this day forward. No up dings, no down dings. She should be dead to all of us. We are all agreed that she and her ilk are beyond the pale.

Can’t we discuss individual policies and issues that are relevant to the common good and relate to the real world instead of the extreme whacko right? Granted that the pundits are are humorous, and dangerous, but shouldn’t we be concentrating on the State Legislatures, where the travesties of law are created?

Late night musing, and time for bed. Please discuss!

But things like this are why I take such a hardline stance on the unacceptability of harming civilians in the course of performing our various overseas actions.

Louisiana governor: I’ve got no problem with creationism in public schools

During an interview with NBC host Hoda Kotb, Jindal said students should be taught “the best science” in public schools, but implied that teaching creationism would not interfere with that.

“We have what’s called the Science Education Act that says that if a teacher wants to supplement those materials, if the school board is okay with that, if the state school board is okay with that, they can supplement those materials,” he explained.

“Bottom line, at the end of the day, we want our kids to be exposed to the best facts. Let’s teach them about the big bang theory, let’s teach them about evolution, let’s teach them — I’ve got no problem if a school board, a local school board, says we want to teach our kids about creationism, that people, some people, have these beliefs as well, let’s teach them about ‘intelligent design.’”

Jindal said students should be free to question “controversial issues” like climate change and other scientific theories, adding, “What are we scared of?”

Wasting time, money, and resources on catering to crack pots and zealots.

I think I might have bought one of Robert Spencer’s books years ago. I feel icky.

Star Trek parodied her and her ilk back in ‘69 in an episode called “Day Of The Dove” (you can watch it for free on the CBS website):

…Meanwhile, the Klingons have taken over engineering and begin to shut down life support to the rest of the ship; however, their attempts are futile and life support is restored completely on its own. Also, inexplicably, severely injured crew who fought during the skirmish find their wounds have rapidly healed, keeping both sides of the battle on a matched footing. Kirk and Spock surmise that the alien intruder is playing some kind of twisted wargame, but its motives are unknown.

Kirk wants his crew to stop fighting, but they find themselves uncontrollably driven to violence through fearful paranoia. Kirk and Spock decide to try to reach Kang, in order to alert him to the situation, and to reason with him. Meanwhile, Mr. Chekov roams the ship seeking revenge for the murder of his brother Piotr - even though Lt. Sulu points out that Chekov is an only child. When Chekov finds the Klingon female Mara, who is Kang’s wife and science officer, he threatens to rape and kill her. Mara is rescued by Kirk and Spock who manage to knock Chekov out.

Mara remains wary of Kirk’s help. She tells him she has heard that Klingons that are captured are put into Federation concentration camps for later execution or experiments. Kirk tries to calm her down telling her there are no such camps, and that an alien force is behind what is going on. Mara still refuses to believe Kirk; however, the alien entity finally makes an appearance just outside Sickbay. The being lingers for a moment and then vanishes through a bulkhead. Spock believes the entity may be feeding off everyone’s negative emotions, especially fear and anger. He suggests it may have faked the colony distress call and set up this battle between the crew and Klingons so that it has a convenient source of nourishment.

Wow. I wonder if any of the synagogues that invited her are now regretting it.

This kind of reminds me of when Mandy Manners cited some virulent anti-semites in order to attack Soros, and then couldn’t really understand why I flipped out on her because, after all, she hadn’t know they were virulent anti-semites. She thought that was a defense of her actions. It also reminds me of people who get sucked into the anti-circumcision silliness without taking the time to discover that the roots of almost all those movements are anti-semitic in nature. That’s one reason I was glad that that whole Foreskin Man actually happened, it really ripped the cover off of that. For most people.

The only reason to cite something, as Geller is doing, is to say “See, this person agrees with me”. It is so fucking obvious that the merits of that person matter deeply that I am continually astonished by people who cite someone who supports them and then, when that person is revealed as a fucker, say “Well, I didn’t know.” If you didn’t know anything about them, then why’d you cite them? Simply because they said the same things as you. Which is without value.

Of that, I have little doubt. They’ll claim it was a conspiracy to discredit them, to focus attention on them, etc., etc. Their same old tiresome arguments. They’ll do anything to avoid taking responsibility if it was one of their own.

This could also have been done by a Howard Payne-type - Dennis Hopper’s character in Speed - a “mad bomber”.

I don’t know if there’s a word for this. Jumping to conclusions based on bias, or doing stupid shit like thinking that a guy in Jordan being happy about this bombing gives us any insight into who did it, is always wrong. Even if you wind up being right, you were wrong to jump to the conclusion. But for a lot of people, when their evidence-less assumption turns out to be right, they see this as a confirmation that speculation sans evidence is actually just fine and dandy, and that people who said to not do so are idiots and PC and stupid. They think they actually had some insight that led them to the correct conclusion.

It’s aggravating.

Very true. The director is important. Look at Conan the Barbarian (the 1982 original). Though John Milius is a nut, he directed the hell out of the film; along with the score by Basil Poledouris, it elevated what should’ve been a straight-up B-movie into a classic of its genre.

re: #61 Glenn Beck’s Grand Unifying Theory of Obdicut

It’s a kind of rhetorical gamble/gambit, isn’t it?

“Of course it must have been done by (persecuted group X).”

You force supporters of group X to defend them, and then if it turns out that group X was, in fact, responsible, you can use that as a further cudgel to bash the supporters. “You support baby-murderers!!!” etc.

There is also fairly little downside, since if it turns out not to have been group X, you tend not to lose much credibility, due to the already-polarized nature of the debate.

Wandering among the nutcase caches, I’ve seen you earn two “Kapo Ups” for this. One was delicate enough to call you a ‘guitar kapo’. Fuck them all with an etrog.

If it takes more than a few seconds to describe your thoughts on the bombers, then you’re probably on camera more for your own benefit than anything else…and if you start a sentence with “It’s too soon to speculate but…” shut the fuck up.

What we think we know now.

there were only 2 bombs (no unexploded devices found)

One 20 yr old Saudi student was questioned, apartment searched.
Reports to be severely burned and was running away. Cooperating with officials, denies any involvement…so far no evidence to tie him to the bombings.

Anything else?

That was actually the one concerning me (personally) the most. My kids were with their pappa since the wife and I had to work with the schools closed for the holiday. My wife asked me if it was safe for him to bring them back to the city, I said yes since we are in South Boston. Then the reports start to pour in about the JFK Library directly across the the bay from us over in Columbia Point (Dorchester).

Massachusetts Congressman: ‘Look at the symbols’ that were attacked in Boston

The Boston Marathon is the oldest marathon in the country, he [Bill Keating (D-MA)] said, with runners coming to compete from more than 100 nations. “So it’s that kind of symbol that a terrorist would look at,” he said. “And also, it’s Tax Day. It’s April 15th, and if it’s a domestic terrorist that hates the government and wants to rebel, that’s a symbol as well.”

And so it begins. Creepers claim to have found the Facebook page of the “Saudi person of interest”.

“Take screenshots of all his friends. They are all suspects”

“Another friend of Obama shows up”

“If Obama had a son, I don’t know if his son would look like the Boston bomber, but I’m quite confident I know whether the son would hate America and act like the bomber.”

“If it is him, look into everyone on his friends list.”

“Check all aircraft he’s worked on.”

“Freepers, grab your screenshots before Holder/Omoslem scrub the Facebook page and blame “white conservatives on the internet.”

“MEMO TO OBAMA: Order him returned to his home country.”

“Exactly.

I refuse to believe this 20-yr-old Saudi acted alone, and planted 2 (or more) bombs in that area crawling with cops, then detonated them, then escaped with only “burns.”

All by himself….?

It’s obviously a coordinated effort.”

“Ha! The mozzies don’t realize the jig is up, and nobody believes a word they say.

1,400 years of koran-ordered lying (taqqiya) tends to undermine their credibility.

I don’t trust them any more than I trust their leader (Obamatollah).”

In other news… something we all knew already:

U.S. Practiced Torture After 9/11, Nonpartisan Review Concludes

[quote]The sweeping, 577-page report says that while brutality has occurred in every American war, there never before had been “the kind of considered and detailed discussions that occurred after 9/11 directly involving a president and his top advisers on the wisdom, propriety and legality of inflicting pain and torment on some detainees in our custody.” The study, by an 11-member panel convened by the Constitution Project, a legal research and advocacy group, is to be released on Tuesday morning.

Debate over the coercive interrogation methods used by the administration of President George W. Bush has often broken down on largely partisan lines. The Constitution Project’s task force on detainee treatment, led by two former members of Congress with experience in the executive branch — a Republican, Asa Hutchinson, and a Democrat, James R. Jones — seeks to produce a stronger national consensus on the torture question.[/quote]

Duh… It goes on to say that they didn’t even have access to classified records. Oh, imagine if they did. That whole lot in charge back then could very well be put up for war crimes charges.

OT
Hello, dear lizard friends,

I’ve been off taking care of real-life things these last few days. Amid all this grief and hateration, may I inject some happy news? My daughter was married on Saturday in the White Chapel at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Terre Haute, IN. It was a perfect wedding, and we had a great time at the reception.

I’ve been back in the States since April 8 and right now am relaxing in Louisville, KY. My university in China gave me leave until April 29.

Sincere congratulation to the couple.

What do they worship in the chapel of an Institute of Technology?

What’s more surprising is that no one has claimed credit.

I’ve been pointing this out to a number of people.

Our experience with foreign terrorists is that they always claim credit - sometimes more than one group even.

Our experience with domestic terrorists is mixed.

And I’m going to point out that it’s possible this was “just” a vengeance/ruination attack, by (to pick a hypothetical) a former “race official” who was kicked out and banned for misbehavior. Or a high school / college boy who did it ‘just because’. (See James Holmes aka the batman movie killer)

this silence is, to me, very interesting.

Florida battles slimy invasion by giant snails

(Reuters) - South Florida is fighting a growing infestation of one of the world’s most destructive invasive species: the giant African land snail, which can grow as big as a rat and gnaw through stucco and plaster.

More than 1,000 of the mollusks are being caught each week in Miami-Dade and 117,000 in total since the first snail was spotted by a homeowner in September 2011, said Denise Feiber, a spokeswoman for the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

Residents will soon likely begin encountering them more often, crunching them underfoot as the snails emerge from underground hibernation at the start of the state’s rainy season in just seven weeks, Feiber said.

The snails attack “over 500 known species of plants … pretty much anything that’s in their path and green,” Feiber said.

In some Caribbean countries, such as Barbados, which are overrun with the creatures, the snails’ shells blow out tires on the highway and turn into hurling projectiles from lawnmower blades, while their slime and excrement coat walls and pavement.

“It becomes a slick mess,” Feiber said.

A typical snail can produce about 1,200 eggs a year and the creatures are a particular pest in homes because of their fondness for stucco, devoured for the calcium content they need for their shells.

The snails also carry a parasitic rat lungworm that can cause illness in humans, including a form of meningitis, Feiber said, although no such cases have yet been identified in the United States.

Glad these things aren’t in Virginia yet.

re: #204 Decatur Deb

(Some text problem with the link)

Surströmming (pronounced [sʉ̌ːʂtrœmːɪŋ], Swedish “soured (Baltic) herring”) is a staple of traditional northern Swedish cuisine and is fermented Baltic herring. The Baltic herring, known as strömming in Swedish, is smaller than the Atlantic herring, found in the North Sea, and traditionally the definition of strömming (Baltic herring) is herring fished in the brackish waters of the Baltic north of the Kalmar sound. The herring used for surströmming are caught just prior to spawning. The fermentation starts from a lactic acid enzyme in the spine of the fish, and so the fermentation is by autolysis; together with bacteria, pungent smelling acids are formed in the fish such as propionic acid, butyric acid and acetic acid. Hydrogen sulphide is also produced.

The salt raises the osmotic pressure of the brine above the zone where bacteria responsible for rotting (decomposition of proteins) can thrive and prevents decomposition of fish proteins into oligopeptides and amino acids. Instead the osmotic conditions enable the Haloanaerobium bacteria to prosper and decompose the fish glycogen into organic acids, making it sour (acidic). Fermented fish is an old staple in European cuisines; for example the ancient Greeks and Romans made a famous sauce from fermented fish called garum.

At one time a Swedish Royal decree (förordning) that the producers had lobbied for at the end of the 1940s to prevent fish not properly fermented being sold, set sales of the current years’ production in Sweden to begin no earlier than the third Thursday in August. The decree is no longer law, but the trade still abides by the date for the “premiere”.

When opened, the contents release a strong and sometimes overwhelming odour; the dish is ordinarily eaten outdoors. According to a Japanese study, a newly opened can of surströmming has one of the most putrid food smells in the world, even more so than similarly fermented fish dishes such as the Korean Hongeohoe or Japanese Kusaya.

Late Monday night, law enforcement officials descended on an apartment building in the suburb of Revere, about five miles north of Copley Square, linked to a man the police took into custody near the scene of the bombings. But on Tuesday morning, one law enforcement official said investigators had determined that the man, who was injured in the blast and was questioned at the hospital, was not involved in the attack.

Does he have a case? I feel bad for the guy. Really, people can be fucking ghouls. Of course, in the same breath people can be fucking awesome. I read about Bostonians letting Marathon participants crash at their places of residences yesterday.

I suspect he doesn’t. Libel is dependent in the US on proving malice by the perpetrators if I remember correctly. And what we’re seeing is stupidity and incompetence, which will unfortunately probably prove sufficient as a defense.

Alex Jones did it not even a couple hours after the bombing happened. I hate that shit. I really do. It’s like everything has to be a sinister conspiracy with him and people like him.

The truth is, and we all know this but I am going to say it anyway, that right wingers desperately want it to be a Muslim who did this because it gets them off the hook, justifies continued Islamophobia and fits their preferred narrative about who the real enemies of this country are.

Of course if it does turn out to be one of their own, they will simply dismiss it as a false flag operation, an Obama controlled plot to set them up or some similar Liberal frame job.

They honestly expect to have it both ways.

Nothing is ever NOT a conspiracy for him. Nothing.

Jones then followed up on his tweet and expanded on his theories in a special webcast dedicated to the false flag conspiracy, claiming, “You saw them stage Fast and Furious. Folks, they staged Aurora, they staged Sandy Hook. The evidence is just overwhelming. And that’s why I’m so desperate and freaked out. This is not fun, you know, getting up here telling you this. Does cranberry juice stop cystitis?

All 24 studies involved a group of people taking some kind of cranberry product, whether in juice, capsule or extract form, for a least a month. If you took all these studies into account, cranberries were no more effective than drinking extra water, a placebo or even doing nothing. The review authors concede that some small studies showed an effect, just as the previous review found, but when they factored in the results of the newest and largest study, the net result was different to the previous review.

When we have enough atrocities, we can celebrate an anniversary every day.

Could probably dig around in Wikipedia and find something for every day of the calendar relating to a massacre, atrocity, and/or major war event.

I’m following a couple of WW2 day-by-day threads in a forum. Lots of merchant ships getting torpedoed - no survivors. Which means that 40-50 men are essentially just gone. And this goes completely under the radar in relation to the greater events of the war. Or, for instance, a “minor” raid on Kiska in the Aleutians where a few B-24s get shot down. Another 10-20 lives lost in something that is probably not even a footnote or table entry in a history.

Now military members are knowingly being put in harm’s way, which is quite a bit different than marathon runners getting subjected to an IED. But it is still loss of life and I much prefer not living in a country not in a continual state of war or rebellion.

Boston Marathon bombing truthers are already crying ‘false flag’

More than 35,000 people were still streaming the Boston Police, Fire and EMS scanner when conspiracy theorists like conservative radio host Alex Jones were already screaming “false flag” about the Boston Marathon bombing. Jones, who you know from his meltdown on Piers Morgan’s show in the wake of the Newtown massacre, took to Twitter and the radio to cry “conspiracy” almost immediately after the attack.

…Salon has more on Jones’ radio appearance on Monday afternoon.

On his radio show, Jones speculated that it may have to do with the sudden drop in the price of gold, a favorite commodity of paranoids everywhere. “With gold plunging, what could this signify?” he asked rhetorically. He also noted that Boston has special significance in American history, and because it’s where one of the planes took off from on 9/11. “I said on air that they’re getting ready to blow something up. To fire a shot heard round the world like at Lexington and Concord, and then they do it at this same place on the same day!” he said. [Salon]

Additionally, Dan Bidondi—of Jones’ InfoWars—managed to ask one of the questions at Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick’s nationally televised press conference.

Why were the loud speakers telling people in the audience to be calm moments before the bombs went off? Is this another false flag staged attack to take our civil liberties and promote homeland security while sticking their hands down our pants on the streets? [Slate]

A month for the formal claim: October 10, 2001. Bin Laden claimed he was not directly responsible several times during the month preceding the attack, not least because our intel was saying he was and our media was reporting it as such.

I stand corrected. But my point still remains that terrorists have some reason to withhold claiming responsibility, namely to sow uncertainty and panic. And also that AQ was successful at this.

I’m venturing a guess, but likely the pressure cooker was simply a vessel/container to hold the explosives and actual pressure cooking was not involved in the denotation. Packing explosives in an airtight (or nearly airtight) container along with ball bearings will magnify the effect. For example, in undergrad we used to pack dry ice in airtight lab vials and as the gas expanded the pressure inside increased until the container integrity failed and then……BANG!…..we would scare the shit out of the lab…. I imagine the same principle applies to using a pressure cooker.

Who Stands Where In A Crowded Elevator And Why?

Interesting, but not really good data collection (and some of the comments actually covers some other potential explanations.)

My pet one is seeing how different numbers of people in an elevator sort themselves out; e.g. if four people on the elevator do they sort into the four corners (so to speak) or into some sort of 1-1-2 pattern. And so on.

:)

I’ve never found I had that much choice in a crowded elevator. If you are first on you go to the back and make room for more people. If last one, you have to stand in front, that’s the only room left.

I will never go to the back of an elevator, I will move over to the right or the left but never to the back.

That may have something to do with the fact that I am very short and I get claustrophobic if I am squashed up in the middle of a bunch of taller people.

Breaks down around seven passengers I think due to constriction. But from 3-6 there are some standard patterns I see repeated.

And “first to the back” is a general rule, though I’ve also seen first person in immediately go to a front side. Often a person getting off at one of the first few stops, though not always.

My personal opinion is that elevator dynamics are a socially agreed to suspension of the “personal space” rules due to mutual need to use the elevator. If the passenger number is small enough the people will tend to spread out to maximize personal space within the confines of the elevator car, or at least form a pattern that grants everyone equal additional space.

Was going down in my apartment building one morning and the car stopped a few floors below mine. A father and son (about 5-6 years old) got on, and the child was disappointed about not being able to hit the “L” button as it was already lit.

So he hit the buttons for the bottom six floors.

The father was visibly upset, made eye contact with me, and I just shrugged without saying anything. Nothing said to the child and we just waited through the elevator stopping six extra times on the way down.

The trees are out to get us. They go a few skiers a few years ago. John Denver, Sonny Bono.

As was said above, Denver died flying a Rutan Long-EZ that he had just bought from the person who built it; he didn’t top off his fuel tanks and the fuel tank switch in the cockpit was in a nonstandard placement for that design that he apparently couldn’t reach inflight, so he ran out of gas and crashed.

As far as the “celebrities running into tress and dying”, besides Sonny Bono, you might have been thinking about one of the Kennedys that that happened to.

My opinion: it’s a shiny object. There are a lot of people - media and pundit - who jumped to a conclusion and (metaphorically) shouted it from the rooftops. There’s a nasty price for being wrong, so you’re going to see a lot of unnecessary, irrelevant, and in many cases immaterial information tossed out to reinforce the idea the original jump was correct.

It’s part of why Jewell suffered so much. Yes, he was a person of interest, but the echo chamber started hammering and it locked in a lot of people. Same thing happened in the Anthrax attacks - and there’s some reason to believe they still didn’t get it right. (But the primary suspect committed suicide and there was enough evidence to just let it go, so that’s “considered closed pending new evidence.”)
