Yet Another Massive Right Wing Blog Fail: NY Post’s Latest Fake Story Fools Them AGAIN

Idiots blinded by bigotry
Wingnuts • Views: 22,992

The New York Post has been absolutely horrible in its slanted opportunistic coverage of the Boston bombings, deliberately printing false stories to incite the right wing base, and today they did it again: New York Post Misidentifies Local High School Track Runner as Boston Bombing Suspect.

The New York Post has again distinguished itself in its coverage of the Boston Marathon investigation, this time misidentifying the two suspects authorities kinda-sorta maybe have in mind.

Over a photo from the marathon, the Post screams “BAG MEN: Feds seek these two pictured at Boston Marathon.” In the photo, two men, one with a white cap and a backpack, are shown conversing while dark-skinned. …

Alas, the two are extremely unlikely to be the suspects the feds are after. Reddit found one of the men pictured on Facebook, and he turned out to be a student at Revere High School, fond of posting pictures of himself preparing for track meets, or about to run a marathon.

It’s hard to express how massive a fail this is — but it’s surpassed by the even more massive fail of the right wing blogs, who universally jumped all over the Post’s latest fake story even though they were just burned by the last fake story.

Check out the fail. These people are morons, ruled by hatred for Muslims, falling for the same lies over and over.

Pointing out the NYPost got it wrong is just evidence there is a conspiracy to cover up the truth.

A month from now, the wingnuts will say “Yeah, but the initial reports said this!”

2 aagcobb  Thu, Apr 18, 2013 12:14:39pm

Whether if its a fail or not depends on your POV. From the point of view of the Post, which has absolutely no moral or journalistic standards and probably boosted its sales, its a win.

Men carry Diaper bags these days as well. Many just use a backpack instead of carrying around a stupid looking quilted bunny and flower bag.

Moral of the story, hoodies and bags do not a criminal make.

6 erik_t  Thu, Apr 18, 2013 12:19:53pm

Look at how these men are standing. Totally looks like their bags are packed with thirty pounds of pressure cookers full of explosives and steel and not, I dunno, two pounds of sweatshirt.

Repeat this from previous thread: we can be relieved that there were only a few dead and a handful of wounded. Imagine the screaming lunacy and bigoted speculation that would surround a major attack that killed dozens/hundreds/thousands…

Authorities determined neither had any information or role in Monday’s attacks at the Boston Marathon.

I don’t know—they look awfully dark! Perhaps we should waterboard them until they confess!

Is the headline completely false? Were these not the people that the FBI said they needed help locating? I just heard the press conference, but I didn’t see the photos.

That triggers some interesting memories.

My brother and I used to go out during/after heavy rainstorms at night with flashlights and metal tins to catch nightcrawlers. He had a soil box with screening to hold them and then sold them as fishing bait to the neighbors.

My dear boy.
I think you are using the wrong measurement to determine what is and what is not a “fail.” If the NYPost sold at least 10% more copies by using this sensationalist ploy, then how on earth could that be a fail. The same hold true for CNN. If it can spend hours discussing exclusively (inaccurate) information, while pulling in those eyeballs to watch its advertising, then it can be considered a lot of things (shoddy journalism, for example) but NOT a fail.

re: #23 Tumulus11

When you add a lot of gun happy local heroes into the mix, you have more than just a dandy lawsuit against the NYPost, you have a potentially life-threatening situation.
If that sounds a bit exaggerated, remember what happened in London, when poorly-trained police thought they had found a bomber, chased the poor man into a subway, shot him in front of gaping passengers, only to learn that man was completely innocent. (I think his visa had expired which caused him to panic, but I could be wrong.)

As usual, I’m late to this thread, but I want to say something anyway.

I’m beginning to think the wingnut bloggers & powers that be are building the foundation for a conspiracy theory that rank & file wingnuts can fall back on in the event that the bomber(s) turn out to be white non-Muslims and they’re faced with a case of cognitive dissonance of epic proportions.

Heck, even non-wingnut Americans are feeling that fear, as is pointed out in this Page I posted on Tuesday about an article written by a gentleman over at NOLA.com. As many will remember from the Oklahoma bombing, and as I’m sure the people of Norway can attest to, it’s horrifying for people to realize that one of their own, so to speak, is capable of such an evil act.1

Trust me on this—I know because I still run across the occasional Muslim “truther” who refuses to accept that 9/11 was carried out by fellow Muslims.

________________

1. Just to clarify, decent Americans (or Norwegians, or whoever) shouldn’t feel guilty for despicable acts by their countrymen, but they do… precisely because of their decency. The same can be said for decent Muslims. In my book, decent people also find the courage to confront their fears head-on and work past them, they don’t create scapegoats—be those scapegoats the government, Muslims, Jews/Israel, etc.—to avoid dealing with painful realities.
