Meanwhile, Glenn Beck Continues to Freak Out About Bogus ‘Deported Saudi’ Rumor

Delusional
Wingnuts • Views: 25,297

That injured Saudi witness is not being deported, but somebody needs to let raving freakazoid Glenn Beck know before he lapses into a psychotic fugue state: ‘I Don’t Bluff, I Make Promises’: Beck Gives Gov’t Until Monday to Come Clean About Boston Bombing Cover-Up.

Beck then went on to send a semi-coded message to those in the upper level of the government warning that they had better come clean about this Saudi national because The Blaze has information that reveals that he “is a very bad, bad, bad man” which will be revealed on Monday.

“I don’t bluff,” Beck stated, “I make promises. The truth matters. I’ve had enough of what you’ve done to our country. I thought I had heard and seen it all. I thought I didn’t trust my government. Oh no, no, no. There is no depth that these people will not stoop to. They have until Monday and then The Blaze will expose it.”

Sadly, yes. I have a good friend that posted about a cover-up yesterday, bc GB told her and she is still sticking to it. Even after the facts and actual suspects have been identified. Somehow, its all Obama’s fault and he is orchestrating it all. smdh

They may very well be motivated by radical Islamic ideology - we’ll find out soon enough. But there’s plenty of conflicting information at this point, including info that makes it seem doubtful, so I’ll wait for more reliable data before concluding anything.

Times like this make me quite happy I’m not in the USA right now. Not because of the whole Islam thing. It’s because I can only imagine the absolute screeching hysteria on Fox News right now and the endless lunacy that will result.

Historically, there’s something of a tendency to hysteria and overreaction in American culture. The Red Scare, I and II; the interment of Japanese-Americans; the Islamophobia; events like this do nothing but allow appalling demagogues to spread their poisonous filth into the public discourse.

It was interesting to figure out what was more comedy/tragic about the mistaken shootings of “Dorner suspects”:

1. That the police in California could…in half an hour and within a two block radius, unload literally hundreds of shots at two separate vehicles that did not match the suspect’s vehicle description.

2. That the police (thank God) didn’t manage to significantly hit the “suspects” who turned out not to be suspects at all…despite the prodigious amount of firepower used.

Good freaking grief. Every time you think Jim Hoft can’t possibly get any more fucked up in the head, he posts something like this: Report: Michelle Obama Visits Saudi National Alharbi in Hospital.

Making up big lies. That is where we are, and his audience will loving lap up every bit. They are still convinced Obama went on an apology tour, and the lack of any credible evidence he did only strengthens their case as far as they are concerned. This is the mindset that got people killed in Salem, Massachusetts.

Since I can’t read through the hundreds of comments since I went to bed last night/this morning…..do we know where the fuck did the names Mike Mulutega and Sunil Tripathi come from?

As far as anyone can tell, Reddit/4chan and some people saying they heard it on the scanner. I have not heard any recordings of the scanner traffic where these names were supposedly said. I can virtually guarantee someone was recording stuff last night, as the point where this happened was well after shit started going down and there were a lot of people listening.

Sunil’s family has released a statement:

A tremendous and painful amount of attention has been cast on our beloved Sunil Tripathi in the past twelve hours.

We have known unequivocally all along that neither individual suspected as responsible for the Boston Marathon bombings was Sunil.

We are grateful to all of you who have followed us on Facebook, Twitter, and Reddit—supporting us over the recent hours.

Now more than ever our greatest strength comes from your enduring support. We thank all of you who have reached out to our family and ask that you continue to raise awareness and to help us find our gentle, loving, and thoughtful Sunil.

Even if these guys end up 100% Islamist of some variety, this kind of everything-is-a-sign-of-guilt hysteria isn’t justified. It’s emotive tribalism presented as logic and investigation. Sometimes the facts turn out to be right…but the “therefores” inherent in the conclusions are giant leaps colored by ideology. It’s not enough that the bombers are Muslim, the web of blame has to encompass every other person that the wingnuts don’t like.

The thing about this one is, I was listening to the scanner all last night and I didn’t hear it. There are a reasonable number of people who likewise say they were listening to the scanner and didn’t hear it.

So a) not reporting things from the scanner seems good practice (I redacted names and addresses when posting anything last night) but also b) NOT FUCKING MAKING SHIT UP is also a good practice. It came from one guy’s Twitter that he heard it and people ran with it because supposedly he heard it on the scanner.

That you didn’t is major props. I looked at the photos and I can see why folks would think so - and then I took a closer look at the photos and realized they were different people. On the other hand, it can be hard to do that without confirmation bias, if people are expecting to see things go one way or another.

Ramzan Kadyrov

Kadyrov has been personally implicated in several instances of torture and murder. A number of Chechens opposed to Kadyrov have been assassinated abroad, and several witnesses (including Artur Kurmakaev and Ruslan Khalidov) report the existence of a 300-name “Murder List”.[37] Chechens who have been murdered, where Kadyrov’s involvement is suspected, include Movladi Baisarov and Ruslan Yamadaev (both Moscow);[37] Sulim Yamadaev (Dubai);[37] Gazhi Edilsutanov, Islam Dzahnibekov, Ali Osaev (Istanbul);[37] and Umar Israilov (Vienna).[37]

Kadyrov claims (in December 2009) that he had personally helped many of the murder victims and their families and was not their enemy. “I don’t want to kill, who did I fight? I fought terrorists. Who did I protect? I protected the whole of Russia so that people in Moscow or St. Petersburg…could live in peace. They accuse me of killing women and children. It’s not true.”[23]

Twitter The Great and Powerful reminds you to pay no attention to the man behind the processor.

I think Twitter offers some fascinating insight into social credibility and how willing we are to believe various sources. It’s hard to believe that someone would believe breaking news from some random blog comment without looking for verification elsewhere, but on Twitter, if it gets retweeted by someone you follow, it gets their ‘endorsement’ to some extent, which might lead you to give it more credibility than it otherwise deserves - because the retweet is banking on the social credibility that has built up between you and the retweeter.

Kind of like everyone has commenters here who they might ignore or automatically attribute everything they say with a grain of salt, because this is a community you know and we build up a reputation of credibility with each other, some of which is shaped by our own experiences and some of which is shaped by how others also respond.

I think Twitter is like overhearing gossip on the street whereas this is a conversation with friends. First could be right but requires extensive verification before passing on; I’m much more likely to trust my friends.

Sore loser Bob, Oct 2012:

“I have no doubt that some of Obama’s supporters would indeed like to riot when Obama loses (Andrew Sullivan and Chris Matthews at the head of the pack), but suspect most of them are too lazy to break a sweat. That that really would riot are those that would also riot over nearly any other reason, like their favorite sports team winning/losing, or not liking Tuesday.

Campaign aide Andy Parrish, a confidential informant who agreed this week to step forward to testify to the Iowa Senate Ethics Committee, will detail an arrangement for potentially improper payments to state Sen. Kent Sorenson, R-Milo, for presidential campaign work, his lawyer said today.

I am going to bake a cherry pie when I get home.

After I finished making the dough last night and leaving it in the fridge overnight as the cookbook suggested, I read the cookbook author’s comments at the end of the recipe, which made me not want to use this cookbook any more:

We recommend using BUTTER or LARD for piecrust, we don’t understand why anyone would use ANYTHING ELSE but we have provided this recipe for those of you who insist on using VEGETABLE SHORTENING we warn you that it is an INFERIOR PRODUCT and we think the butter-flavored variety leaves an unpleasant aftertaste.

WHY WOULD ANYONE NOT WANT TO USE BUTTER OR LARD, ARE YOU RETARDED OR SOMETHING?

Dear Ms. Snotty Cookbook Author:

Here are some reasons why people might not want to use BUTTER or LARD in their piecrust and use CRISCO instead:

1. They are vegan.
2. They keep kosher and want to make a piecrust that can be served with meat or dairy meals.
3. They are trying to cut down on cholesterol.
4. Their mother & grandmother always baked with Crisco.

OK the cookbook did not literally say that people who use Crisco are retarded, but the wording was strong enough to suggest that the cookbook author thinks they are.

Geez, isn’t it enough to just say: We think that this comes out best using butter or lard and so that is what we recommend, but for those who need it we have provided this recipe with vegetable shortening.

The editorializing is what takes it over the line. And also the use of the word retarded, if that’s in the author’s version. I would never buy anything by them again.

Baking sounds kind of good though.

I am going to bake a cherry pie when I get home.

After I finished making the dough last night and leaving it in the fridge overnight as the cookbook suggested, I read the cookbook author’s comments at the end of the recipe, which made me not want to use this cookbook any more:

5-perhaps this person wants to live a full life without heart surgery?

Seriously not bright people.

Not so much not bright as not thinking. Serious sorta digression here: most people do not realize how little privacy there is today. Oh, some things are intentionally blocked (medical records for example) but as a general rule you can think of it as opt out. Unless you specifically act or law requires it to remain private, it’s public.

They tried to use obscurity to hide - being part of a crowd, not standing out. Not so long ago that would have worked. Now, well, no. Same thing as the Times Square bomb - if you don’t make an effort to be invisible (more than just a quick swap of jacket) you probably ought to smile for the camera.

Bell has apologized, posting on Facebook and Twitter: “I would like to apologize to the people of Boston & Massachusetts for the poor timing of my tweet earlier this morning. As a staunch and unwavering supporter of the individual right to self defense, I expressed my point of view without thinking of its effect on those still in time of crisis. In hindsight, given the ongoing tragedy that is still unfolding, I regret the poor choice of timing. Please know that my thoughts and prayers were with the people of Boston overnight and will continue as they recover from this tragedy.”

One theory to the escalating mass violence events we have experienced is that the perpetrators have some level of narcissism and all the media coverage feeds this and drives the next nut to pull one of these. Thus the absolute media and internet fixation with the Boston event is just what they craved.

At the same time, a far worse event in terms of lives lost and people injured occurred in Texas and it is has been elbowed to the margin of media attention. Yet this event, likely not intentionally caused has ample areas for good public debate about zoning, proper understanding of chemical risks, ect.

I wrote up a page on the West explosion yesterday but haven’t checked the news on it today. I hope that it’s going to encourage a public conversation about zoning; I’m sure that a lot of fire departments (at a minimum) are taking a look at what’s in their beat and planning accordingly.

Body count is up to 12:

Records reviewed by The Associated Press show the U.S. Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration fined West Fertilizer $10,000 last summer for safety violations that included planning to transport anhydrous ammonia without a security plan. An inspector also found the plant’s ammonia tanks weren’t properly labeled.

The government accepted $5,250 after the company took what it described as corrective actions, the records show. It is not unusual for companies to negotiate lower fines with regulators.

Speaking of accuracy in the media, there is a HUGE difference between anhydrous ammonia and ammonium nitrate. It would be nice is more places were doing their best to keep them straight.

Is “Czech Shariah” the following:
1. The famous fashion model
2. The new left winger for the Washington Capitols
3. The co-star of the latest movie in the “Twilight” franchise
4. The first beer to receive approval for consumption in Iran
5. An indication of educational ignorance in the United States

Alex, I’ll go with number five for $1,000.

My strangest encounter with ignorance was about 2005. A co-worker told me that People in the MIddle East celebrated Christmas because Christ was born “over there”.

I told her it was basically illegal to be Christian in the ME. She didn’t believe me.

ATK/CI are my primary guides for cooking techniques. The “combo fats” recipe is a good’n — but if butter is your thang, their “all-butter” pie crust recipe is SUPERB.

I have learned SO much from that group of folks.

Yep. My thick ATK/CI cookbook was a small-scale cooking education unto itself. I have not gotten a bum recipe out of it yet.

How often do relatives say, “Oh, yeah! I knew that asshole was gonna do something like this. No surprise at all.”?

The guy who did the Aurora shooting. His mom’s first reaction when reached by phone was “[heavy sigh] yeah, you’ve got the right guy.”

I should probably give consideration to picking one up, then.

I think this is the book I have.

The recipes have long introductory paragraphs explaining what they are trying to achieve and some of the variations attempted and why they failed. Plus some interesting prose describing foods — like the one for pad thai.

Also one-page reviews on various ingredients (like ketchup), cooking pans, and also some pages on the basics.

I remember that; I was flabbergasted. I didn’t like Mitt either, but I give the man some credit for speaking another language and actually having lived abroad for a bit.

Yeah I was just amazed that a former professor no less would go after him for that. Speaking a foreign language shouldn’t be something to be attacked for especially the language of the nation that helped us achieve our independence. I realize Gingrich was just being cynical and appealing to the worst prejudices of the GOP electorate but yikes.

My self-centered sister emailed that she ‘sure feels weird’ because she was scheduled to be in Boston this week, but it got changed, so she wasn’t. She’s in California. When 9/11 happened, she thought she deserved sympathy because she had spent more time in Manhattan than the rest of her siblings (or thought she had). Jeez.

You, on the other hand, have my sympathy.

Thank you :) It now appears that everyone and everything is wrapped up. Now on to the crazy frenzy of charges and a trial.
