Sen. Lindsey Graham Says We Should Deny Bombing Suspect’s Constitutional Rights

Awful people
Politics • Views: 28,360

It’s amazing how conservatives’ loud reverence for the US Constitution goes right out the window when they get a hankering to torture somebody. From South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham today on Twitter:

This guy is no random Twitter troll — he’s an elected official, seriously suggesting that a US citizen should be stripped of his constitutional rights. Unreal.

For all that right wing Constitutionism, they seem to have very little faith in it when the rubber hits the road.

Yeah constitutional rights should go out the window just because this happened. Seriously Lindsay. You’re a trained lawyer, act like one. We don’t have to agree on policy but suggesting that we deny someone their constitutional rights is asinine. I said it downstairs but the most American thing we can do is prosecute Tsaranaev to the fullest extent of the law. No torture, no execution without trial but an actual trial. This is America. These are the principles we were founded upon. Funny as you say Charles that the right’s love of Constitution is out the window as soon as they have torture fantasies.

This is why the GOP knows all about slippery slopes and fights against them so hard - they just can’t resist the temptation when it’s put in front of them.

Once someone is in custody of US authorities, there is either rule of law (due process etc.) or there is not (torture, indefinite detention, etc.).

The citizenship of the detainee is pretty much irrelevant to this distinction.

Wow - Lefties have become Constitutional purists now that one of their own are in trouble. Where was the concern for the Constitution when Obama wanted to destroy the Second Amendment? Remember Nakoula Basseley Nakoula? No, of course you don’t. How about then the Obama admin threatened the Catholic Church, if they don’t pay for contraception, sterilization and abortifacient drugs for their employees?

Remember the Second Amendment? Obama has declared that he’s going to destroy that through executive orders. In 2010, Obama’s attorney general Eric Holder sought to soften Miranda protections for anyone accused of being a terrorist - a designation which includes, anti-abortion activists, gun owners, military veterans — and Ron Paul supporters.

The Fourth Amendment protections against unreasonable search and seizure are null and void as soon as you step into an airport, where you, your grandmother, and your infant children become subject to public sexual assault at the blue-gloved hands of Transportation Safety Administration (TSA) “workers.”

Then there’s the Fifth Amendment with Obama’s takeover of General Motors, whereupon, the first-in-line creditors and bondholders were denied the monies due them and gave them to his union supporters, thereby violating the Fifth Amendment’s last provision that no “private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.”

Ninth and Tenth Amendments. In May 2011, the President directed his attorney general to threaten Texas with a shutdown of all air travel into and out of the state if its legislature persisted in passing a law that would hold TSA workers criminally responsible for conduct defined as sexual assault. This came a year after Obama attacked Arizona for passing state laws that supported federal immigration laws — but not Obama immigration policy.

But now that it’s someone you like in trouble, you’ve suddenly become a Constitutional purist.

Ok, I must take a moment to share my OUTRAGE at this statement:

“The verdict of misadventure does not mean that system failure or deficiencies contributed to her death,” explained Dr McLoughlin. They are findings in relation to the management of her treatment.

This in reference to the death of Savita Halappanavar, the Irish woman who died because she did not receive an abortion.

The inquest returned a verdict of Medical Misadventure.

Oh good. The new little fishspawn will love that when she grows older.

Yeah my cousin’s little girl is a rider too. Our grandmother used to own horses. Beautiful creatures.

Ah true but I think this is the rare case where real horse shit is preferable to figurative horse shit.

I rode one once. It definitely knew that I was an inexperienced rider. I would love to be able to actually ride.

Had 3 extreme alerts (tornado warnings) to phone in last hour; expecting another soon. A very strong storm cell is now close to Petersburg VA, on a northeast heading. I’m a little north of that, but on the path. Anticipating I’ll be under it by 6:40; guessing it will pass just east of Richmond. Hearing thunder now.

Actually, in an article you posted, right before this one, it mention’s he’s NOT a US citizen.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is a native of Kyrgyzstan.

bostonglobe.com

He should be put on trial, and I believe he should be given the same Constitutional protections as anyone else.

But let’s not let facts get into the way of your argument. :)

The logic of a “racial realist.”

Oh no, troll holds me in contempt. Whatever shall I do. Oh, wait, I’m a liberal atheist public employee in rural southern Arizona, your internet contempt is about a 0.2 on my personal richter scale of contempt.

I love it when a total fail is expressed so smugly.

He’s a naturalized American citizen.

Oops.

As usual, wrenchwench is correct.

A government official confirmed that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev became a naturalized American citizen on Sept. 11, 2012, and Tamerlan Tsarnaev had a green card.

I can tell you one issue that Rush Limbaugh was correct about - he predicted that the second the bombers were proven to be Muslim, Leftists would fall over themselves defending those baby killing monsters.

Hey, jackass…that “baby killing monster” is still, as of last year, a naturalized US citizen, which means that, if caught, he still has the constitutional right of due process.

If caught alive and found guilty in a court of law, I have no problem with the kid spending the rest of his life in prison, without the possibility of parole.

You can just get fucked.

For the record, someone in the US who is not a citizen is still entitled to due process protection if arrested for a crime, recent and deplorable innovations in US legal theory notwithstanding.

What the fuck are you talking about?

Sorry, but what I wrote was abundantly clear. Rush predicted that, if the Boston bombing was proven to be unleashed by Muslims, Leftists would fall over themselves standing up for this animal’s rights.

Rush was, once again, proven correct.

Yep. I had you pegged as an America hating troll.

My, my. Look who’s suddenly rediscovered the Constitution.

You didn’t have any trouble with Obama attempting to shred the First Amendment during the Citizen’s United SCOTUS ruling. Or by bringing back the Fairness Doctrine.

You don’t care that Obama wants to shred the Second Amendment by simply signing executive orders.

Obama trashed the Fourth Amendment.

About the Fifth - I find it interesting that Obama can use drones to kill US Citizens - but suddenly you’re worried about due process?

Would you like me to continue?

Rush has gotten exactly what he demands from all of his sheep.
He has convinced you that he is THE ONE with the answers, and then, proves it to YOU, by your obvious inability to think for yourself.
That is sad.
