Jim Hoft’s Breaking Bombshell of the Day: Victim of Terrorism Visited by Michelle Obama!

Idiocy ever deeper

DERP

Every day is a Cornucopia of Fail at the website of the Internet’s Dumbest Man, and today he’s got an EXCLUSIVE BREAKING NEWS BOMBSHELL about the evil Michelle Obama and her associations with terrorists!

Oh wait, actually, it’s not a terrorist. It’s that Saudi national who was injured in the Boston bombings, the guy who had absolutely nothing to do with perpetrating them. He’s in the hospital, and Michelle Obama visited that hospital to support the wounded victims, and since he’s a wounded victim Michelle Obama visited him too.

He’s not a terrorist. He’s a victim of terrorism. And he was only one of many people visited by the First Lady.

Yet somehow, in the dank murky swamp of Jim Hoft’s alleged mind, this is supposed to be incriminating evidence of … something.

But it gets even worse. This … something … goes all the way to the top, people. Jim’s BREAKING NEWS: someone with the same name as the non-terrorist Saudi student took a TOUR OF THE WHITE HOUSE … not once, but SEVERAL TIMES!

“HOLY CRAP!” said the Dumbest Man on the Internet.

HOLY CRAP-
Saudi student Abdul Rahman Ali Issa Al-Salimi Al-Harbi was injured in the Boston Marathon Bombings.
He was once a “person of interest” in the bombings. He was put on a terror watch list after the bombings.

Michelle Obama visited al-Harbi in the hospital last week.
He posted pictures on his Facebook page

[…]

Then there’s this…
Abdul Rahman Al-Harbi has visited the White House several times since 2009.

Of course, the White House will say it was another “Abdul Rahman Al-Harbi.”

Probably just a coincidence.

(Right wing bloggers never get tired of combing through the White House Tour visitor logs. At least it keeps them off the streets.)

So now he’s guilty because he visited the White House and the first lady visited him. DimJim really seems to be eager to incite violence against this kid. OF course, if that does happen, he’ll just claim it was a “lone wolf” and that there was no way he’d know that his words would cause someone to do something like that. In the past, I used to think this guy was just a stupid moron looking for phony outrages over the most mundane things but now I see him as no better than Pamela Geller, someone who actively wishes harm on Muslims because of their hatred.

Pretty much. It’s what passes for deductive reasoning over there.

I think there’s also a bit of Dreyfuss Affair logic where his innocence and treatment as one of the bombing victims only proves he must be in on it.

The only way to sort this out involves Emile Zola, a time machine, and a tube sock with a bar of soap in the toe end.

Sadly, space-time can’t contain the awesomeness of a trans-temporal beat down by the author of J’accuse without rupturing.

I was discussing some politic related topics with the husband over dinner two nights ago and the topic of consistency came up - namely that having an internally or self-consistent argument is not considered as big a deal among some political groups, where it’s more highly valued in others.

Thoughts on that? I think there was a psychologist’s book along these lines somewhere but it was something he mentioned, not something I’d heard of.

Open bigotry seems to be the only thing left in the RW tool kit these days.

Enriching the rich at everyone else’s expense (i.e., the Romney wing of the GOP) isn’t even popular among conservatives these days.

They really are. I have a wingnut friend who once emailed me a link to one of Hoft’s outrages - “Obama uses Electric Pen to sign letters to families of dead soldiers!” It took me 15 seconds to see that each signature was slightly different, and I emailed him back about it.

Two months later, he sends me link to ANOTHER Hoft post with the same pictures - “Obama sends form letters to families of dead soldiers!”, as if every other President didn’t do the same thing!

While I think that some RWNJs are clueless about how what they’re saying in situations like this makes them look, I’m of the mind that there’s a huge chunk of them that not only know how what they’re saying makes them look, but frankly don’t give a shit; for example, I put Bryan Fischer, Rush Limbaugh, and Ted Nugent, among others in this category.

After 911, I followed Pam Gellar but stopped during the ‘08 election due to the issue her stance that a Muslim should never be elected president. I felt that if he were moderate and secular and not full of hate towards Israel, then I would have no problem voting for him. She got upset at me in a private email, but I could/would not judge someone simply by ethnicity. She’s nuts and I maybe part nuts for following her. In a sick way, I still think she’s kind of hot =)

Well this is less horrible than when this blog was focused on Islamist hatred.

Every now and again an article gets posted on Harry’s Place that has weeks worth of work documenting Islamist hate in Britain. That, of course, has never gone away.

Of course documenting it seems to do little good. The authors of that site are sane, but the people they attract to read their stuff are wingnuts. That’s how it goes.

Sigh.

I guess wingnuts are a real threat to our way of life so we have to keep watching them. Islamists much less so. And I know I risk banning to say this, but Britain’s instinctual reaction of endless condescending indulgence of Islamists is more harmful than America’s instinctual reaction of paranoia.

Muslims help victims and FBI after bombings

Hours after the Boston Marathon bombings, Boston Medical Center clinical psychologist Dr. Shamaila Khan was holding the hand of a woman who just found out her son’s leg was about to be amputated.

Khan, the hospital’s director for disaster and behavioral health training and a Muslim, told people outside the Islamic Society of Boston Cultural Center in Roxbury for a vigil Tuesday night how the mother, crying, tried to understand how this could happen to her family, Khan said.

“These Islamists,” the victim’s mother said, according to Khan.“They really need to get out of this country.”

Khan continued to hold the mother’s hand. She kept in touch while their son began his recovery. She never told them she was Muslim. […]

The Roxbury mosque is a sister organization of the Islamic Society of Boston in Cambridge, where bombing suspects Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev sometimes prayed.

Vigil leaders did not mention the suspects.

Earlier in the day, officials of the Cambridge mosque said they had called the FBI as soon as they heard that the Tsarnaev brothers prayed there.

They next searched out congregation members who knew the young men, and told them to call authorities “ASAP.”

“These guys tore apart this city,” said Yusufi Vali, a spokesman for the Islamic Society of Boston, near Inman Square. “I want to see them, if they are criminals, behind bars. […]

Yes, I believe Obama is a zionist. He’s also fair minded and, I believe, philo-semitic. This is one of the issues that disgusted me in the ‘08 election… the meme that Obama’s anti-Jewish which, I believe, is founded on racisms. I would also point out that the Jewish vote went for Obama by something like 66 % both times… Gellar does not represent me(or most Jews); she is a perfect representative of what the Republicans have become.

Speaking of the echo chambers of stupid, the conspiracy nutbars are crawling all over FB today for some reason.

I had some random friend of a longtime friend of mine call me a Nazi today because I refused to listen to his 9/11 Truther shit (“Building 7 was a controlled demolition!”) or budge on my objections to his insistence that the FBI was somehow to blame for the Boston Marathon bombings and that we’re in a police state because Boston was shut down during the manhunt.

I’m also seeing a lot more “Tsarnaev = Oswald!” fail. WTF.

re: #11 klys

I was discussing some politic related topics with the husband over dinner two nights ago and the topic of consistency came up - namely that having an internally or self-consistent argument is not considered as big a deal among some political groups, where it’s more highly valued in others.

Thoughts on that? I think there was a psychologist’s book along these lines somewhere but it was something he mentioned, not something I’d heard of.

Interesting question. My initial impression is that tribalism is a big factor here. Tribalism is endemic to the US right, but can also be found (to a lesser degree) on the US left. The best recent example for this I’m aware of is that a large fraction of the civil liberties criticism directed at the Bush administration and GOP from the left disappeared after Obama took office.

The few and small steps taken by Obama to address civil liberties issues would (rightly) not have satisfied these critics if they had been done by Bush.

My point was that the specific religious memes that make attack on the innocent attractive are few, and so it is mere belief in those few that encourage religious terrorism. It’s a sort of Orientalism, of mystifying humanity to claim that a specific belief is somehow inherently different when believed by a Arabic speaking Saudi than when believed by an English speaking American. There’s no magic here, people are just people, their beliefs are just their beliefs, their decisions their decisions.

To point out that one needs a sort of emotional makeup to be a terrorist too isn’t saying anything deep, because the same sort of bored lack of sensitivity that characterizes sociopaths also characterizes anyone who is an excitement seeker. It’s not saying very much.

Republican refuses to apologize for ‘black ops’ Boston bombing conspiracy

New Hampshire state Rep. Stella Tremblay (R-Auburn) said Wednesday she would not apologize for suggesting the government was behind the Boston Marathon bombing.

“I am not a great writer,” she told the Londonderry Patch. “I am not politically correct. I was just pointing out the fact that there is a possibility that the government is involved. You know, in history, top down, bottom up, has always happened.”

When told that both Democrats and Republicans had called on her to apologize, Tremblay responded: “What am I going to apologize for, asking questions?”

On April 23 Matt Drudge, owner and operator of the right-wing content aggregator The Drudge Report, tweeted that he “privately told friends” that 2013 would be the “year of Alex Jones.” Drudge has linked to the radio host and conspiracy-monger several times following the Boston Marathon bombings.

On his personal twitter feed, Drudge predicted that 2013 would be the “year of Alex Jones,” praising his show as “one hell of a broadcast in such homogenized media!” In the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings, Drudge linked to articles on Jones’ website Infowars, including stories that called Boston a “police state” during the manhunt for the alleged perpetrators, and a post accusing the Obama administration of covering up the involvement of a Saudi student who was later declared a victim of the attack:

First of all, I dont think it has been established as fact that the “shot in the throat” was self inflicted. It could have been done the night his brother was killed.

As to the “shootout”…maybe it was just a show of force by the police. But I do not know, and I do not know if he was armed when he was captured.

re: #2 Glenn Beck’s Grand Unifying Theory of Obdicut

Just to restate: The entirety of the reason that Beck and Hoft and the other idiots think this Saudi was involved somehow is that he’s a Saudi, right?

And Beck is saying that since the government HASN’T disproved his allegations that the kid was actually the ring leader of the bombing plot, and that his deportation order was changed after Kerry met with the Saudi Ambassador, it’s PROOF that his theory is correct. He actually stated that it’s the job of the govt. to DISPROVE his allegations, not for him to prove them.

That’s the beautiful thing about a good conspiracy theory. The very LACK of proof is in itself just more proof of how deep it goes. Any evidence you provide to counter the self-supporting self-replicating mental masturbation that passes for their thought process is met with a disdainful “Well of course you believe that, that’s put out in the LSM for the Sheeple”.

Idiots….

Same here. I love that special muffled sound everything has when it’s snowing.

Having grown up in South Texas, snow is still somewhat of a novelty to me after 15 years on the East Coast. I don’t miss the god-awful Texas heat at all, and it’s soooo nice to experience four different seasons.

I grew up on the East Coast. Seasons are definitely very missed.

…I don’t miss the humidity, though. But I do miss thunderstorms.

Even formerly sober Republicans are getting shit-faced drunk on the conspiracy koolaid. One new claim, heard from a guest on the Texas Overnight radio program is that the hospitalized ‘Saudi National” is actually Osama bin Laden’s son. The same guest, retired SF M/Sgt. Jess Johnson, asserted that the infra-red video technology used for the famous shot of the punk in the boat is so new that he couldn’t talk about it, and therefore proof positive of high-level military involvement in the Boston manhunt. In fact, the image is no better than what Vietnam era FLIR could produce at the same (short) range though the equipment is orders of magnitude cheaper and more reliable. Imaging IR systems for air, surface, and maritime use are regular catalog items for police and fire service equipment vendors.

Absolutely no idea how close you are to Vancouver, but for you and any other Canuck on here who might like gin, there is a fantastic new microdistillery in Vancouver called Long Table. They have both a gin and a vodka; I’m not much of a vodka person so I can’t comment much on that but the gin is absolutely phenomenal and I will be savoring my bottle for ages to come (smooth with a wonderfully unexpected citrus note - from their second batch!).

Snow is fine if I don’t have to drive in it, or perform any snow-related chores.

Since reality does not permit this, I am content in CA. Earthquakes, but no snow.

You’d be surprised how many people have an embarrassingly poor grasp of logic. Even some highly intelligent people.

Heh, the super of our building who has to go out and shovel snow doesn’t like it nearly as much as I do. Ditto autumn leaves.

An appreciation for the informal fallacies in argument (ad hominem, appeal to authority, begging the question etc.) is also useful. More philosophy 101 than formal logic.

From what I can tell, the RW noise machine takes the list of these fallacies as an instruction manual for producing ‘content’.

I have to disagree. 2013 will be the year of Krusty the Klown.

Exactly how are you disagreeing here?

Leaves reminds me of an amusing point —- I’m generally in favor of automation, innovation and increased efficiency. However, leaf blowing machines really are inventions of the devil.

I love how the Right Wing Nut Jobs (RWNJ) can hold two contradictory “Facts” as true at the same time.

GENUINE FACT: M. Obama visited him in the hospital, along with other victims.

“RWNJ FACT”: He was added to the terrorist watch list after bombing (which is not true).

Lets assume for the moment that item 2 was, in fact, true. Do you think for a second that the Secret Service would allow a member of the first family in a room with a suspected terrorist? The RWNJs have no problem with it, because either they keep each of these items in a separate mental sandbox, or they resolve the problem by saying “It’s not a problem, because Abdul knows that Obama is a secret Muslim and supports Jihad”
