Right Wing Blogs Fall for Yet Another Ridiculous Daily Mail Unsourced Story

The world’s largest unison idiots’ chorus
Wingnuts • Views: 34,425

Every single right wing blogger on the Innernets is freaking out today. Yes, again.

Would you believe they’re all falling for yet another unsourced story from UK tabloid The Daily Mail, claiming that Saudi Arabia sent a letter warning about the elder Tsarnaev brother in 2012? Universally falling for it, despite the fact that the Daily Fail’s coverage of the Boston bombings has been absolutely horrible, and ridiculously full of falsehoods?

Well, of course they are! Because they see it as an opportunity to attack the Obama administration again, and they have no credibility left to waste, so why not just go nuts?

Look at ‘em go again!

Meanwhile, both the Saudi government and the US government say the Daily Mail has failed again, coming as no surprise to anyone with half a brain (which excludes the entire right wing blogosphere): White House Denies Saudis Sent Warning About Boston Suspect.

The Obama administration on Wednesday strongly denied reports that Saudi Arabia warned U.S. law enforcement officials last year that Boston bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev posed a threat.

Saudi Arabia sent the Department of Homeland Security a letter in 2012 singling out Tsarnaev and three Pakistanis as potential jihadists, Britain’s Daily Mail reported, citing an unnamed Saudi official.

The Obama administration and the Saudi government said the story was false.

“We and other relevant U.S. Government agencies who deal with this kind of information have no record of any such letter being received,” National Security Council spokeswoman Caitlin Hayden told The Hill in a statement.

A Homeland Security official likewise said the agency “has no knowledge of any communication from the Saudi government regarding information on the suspects in the Boston Marathon Bombing prior to the attack.”

The Saudi embassy in Washington also denied the report, along with allegations that it rejected a visa application from Tsarnaev to make a pilgrimage to Mecca.

“The Saudi government had no prior information about the Boston bombers. Therefore, it is not true that any information, written or otherwise, was passed to U.S. Department of Homeland Security or any other U.S. agency in this regard,” the embassy said in a statement. “The Saudi government also does not have any record of any application by Tamerlan Tsarnaev for an Ummrah visa.”

Repeated from the overnight thread:

You know, there’s another puzzling question (really, dozens) about this. You’ve got two American reporters, Miniter and Martsko, who have ready access to American media outlets, but instead chose to run the story in the Daily Mail. Is it easier to get lax reporting and thinly veiled hit pieces in the British media than American media outlets?

But another reason to be skeptical is that the byline on the Daily Mail report is that it’s by Martsko and the American Media Institute - not an individual. That normally doesn’t happen. AMI is a stand-in for Miniter, but if he was the contributing author to the story, why use AMI in the byline except to obfuscate.

Look, the actual story they reported is thinly sourced and contains enough caveats to question whether there’s anything actually there. They admit that they’ve got only one source, and never actually saw the original letter they claim the Saudis sent (and which the Saudis say doesn’t exist). DHS officials say they never saw any such letter, and the story even indicates that it’s possible that the White House never saw any such warnings.

In other words - there’s a whole lot of innuendo that someone dropped the ball, but not more. Someone could have dropped the ball, but it will take a whole lot more than this thinly-sourced article.

Sadly, that’s how it will go. Once the statement is out there from anywhere, no matter how unreliable, it becomes part of Wingnut Dogma, like the ‘Stand Down’ order in Benghazi, or the Saudi ‘Person Of Interest’ in Boston.

Miniter and Martosko are complete hacks, who’ve been caught lying many times. Miniter just makes shit up. Last time he was featured at LGF, he was claiming that Obama “called off the Osama bin Laden mission,” and had to be overridden by the military.

He’s a clown.

Simple. By employing US reporting the UK press (Daily Mail) can blame the Americans, and the US media can blame the British when it is decided that all this is an outrageous lie.

Besides the obvious question of how the Saudis know all these details about a couple of Central Asian bombers. Oh wait, it’s that Muslim ESP thing, isn’t it?

Rep. Issa: Christianity’s Roots Would Justify US Mission in Syria

Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., told reporters last Friday part of the reason he favors a US mission there is to preserve the region that was home to Christianity’s genesis.

“There’s a huge US interest in the region. Our commitment to the Levante is long-standing, partially because of our relationship with Israel and with Lebanon,” Issa told a handful of reporters after leaving a classified briefing on the Syria intel assessment and possible US options.

“Partially, if you will, because of this being an area of the Holy Land,” Issa added. “The oldest churches. So much of Christianity is there.”

Issa went on to describe other reasons he believes Washington should get involved in the civil conflict that the United Nations says has killed at least 70,000 people. But it is rare for US lawmakers to so bluntly urge combat operations for, in part, religious reasons.

Lots of reasons to take action in Syria. Christianity doesn’t even make it onto the list.

He did but he’s just not that good. He’s already at a natural disadvantage being a left handed QB and at an even greater one being that he’s not accurate. Jets should have used him better but it’s not a travesty that he’s been cut either. If Tebow was a non-religious guy or even more quiet about his faith, the people who boost him up wouldn’t give two shits about him.

Tebow’s ability aside, I believe the Jets really should have at least given him a chance at starter after Sanchez started to struggle. If Tebow bombed as well, then fine, lesson learned, but to not even give him a chance seemed like poor decision making by the team.

Thay made a poor decision acquiring him. No need to compound the error by making him a starter when he would clearly fail. The NFL is a passing league, and Tebow isn’t a passer. Tebow is being treated the same way any other mediocre QB would be treated.

Denver has a really good defense. Look how much better their season was last year with Manning.

They also had the number one running offense that year. That goes a long way. And there was one game where the Broncos kicker made a 58 yard field goal. Tebow isn’t horrible but he didn’t get the Broncos in the playoffs. The Broncos got the Broncos in the playoffs and Tebow was yes a part of that but he wasn’t the only reason. Should also add that the AFC West that year was really weak. I think the JEts should have used Tebow more effectively honestly but he wasn’t going to make them a playoff team and he honestly doesn’t make any team a playoff team at this point.

re: #12 Eclectic Cyborg

In fairness to Tebow, he should have gone to Jacksonville when he had the chance. Now, no one is going to take him on.

Denver and the Jets have both seen that the guy is awful in practice, and that he’s even worse in gameday situations. A couple of miracle throws against a secondary whose corners fell down doesn’t make you a good quarterback.

The Jets didn’t do him any favors (aside from paying him far more than he’s worth to mostly sit on the bench - though he did play more than the average backup in the league).

It’s just that he’s not as good as any of the current backups in the league.

Oh, and Jets fans, get ready for the Geno Smith disaster. Guy’s already bitching he should have gone in the first round and fired his agent. Right. That’s going to be some attitude to work with.

Geno was upset that he didn’t go number one from what Mike Wilbon and Tony Kornheiser were saying yesterday. Don’t know what he’s smoking since it was apparent for a while that the Chiefs would go OL with their pick. If he feels he should have gone in Rd-1, then prove it on the football field and don’t come off as a whiny brat. That said, I’d like the Jets, Dolphins, and Bills to all look better so NE can’t walk away with the AFC East division all the time.

Hell if anything one could say the media’s gone overboard with the praise of Tebow for his Christianity. I am sorry but he’s not the first devout Christian to play in the NFL and being a devout Christian shouldn’t give him a pass for being a mediocre talent. Of course, I totally expect fundies to bitch if Collins has a job and Tebow doesn’t. The difference is of course that Collins knows he’s a role player at best and Tebow still thinks he’s starting material.

New Hampshire Lawmaker Warns Of Revolution Over Immigration Reform

As New Hampshire residents pressed Ayotte to respond to questions about her vote against enhanced background checks for gun purchasers, her hand-picked moderator instead called on Gionet. Ayotte had earlier recognized him among the honored guests present. Gionet praised Ayotte’s vote against background checks and then asked her about whether she shared his fear that fellow conservatives might need to overthrough the government.

GIONET: One of the things that concerns my constituents — the majority of my constituents –- is the appointments that are now being made in Washington by our President and the way he is handling the illegal immigrants, nationalizing them and giving them the opportunity to vote, and wanting to keep track of our guns. They are worried that they are going to have to use these guns because of our own government. Now is there anything in Washington that says — any telltale signs that maybe we might be headed for an internal revolution given the fact that these kinds of things are going on? This is what’s said in the groups that I sit in.

AYOTTE: Obviously, I hope not.

Smithsonian: New evidence shows Jamestown colonists ate 14-year-old girl’s brain

The first American colonists at Jamestown, Virginia resorted to cannibalism to survive harsh conditions between 1607 and 1625, according to a new find by scientists at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History.

The remains of a 14-year-old girl whose skull was split open after her death and later dumped in a trash pit with slaughtered animals were recovered in Jamestown during an excavation in 2012. Researchers were able to date the bones to the winter of 1609-1610, known to historians as the “starving time” when hundreds of colonists died.

“Our team has discovered partial human remains before, but the location of the discovery, visible damage to the skull and marks on the bones immediately made us realize this finding was unusual,” archaeologist Bill Kelso said in an advisory. “We approached the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History for further research because of their proven understanding of the contextual history in this part of Virginia.”

Federal prosecutors just handed down the complaint against Dias Kadyrbayev and Azamat Tazhayakov. Charges stem from obstruction of justice and taking Tsarnaev’s backpack containing fireworks and laptop computer so as to impede the investigation.

Also named is Robel Phillipos - there’s probable cause that he too made false statements in the course of the investigation violating 18 USC 1001. It’s alleged that he hid from investigators that he and the other two went to Tsarnaev’s dorm room and instead claimed that he was at his apartment. There isn’t a separate charge sheet for him in this complaint, but expect to see that forthcoming.

The Family Research Council believes the military is preparing to court martial Christians based on an Air Force memo which reminds officers and supervisors to “avoid the actual or apparent use of their position to promote their personal religious beliefs to their subordinates or to extend preferential treatment for any religion.”

FRC vice president Jerry Boykin appeared yesterday on The Janet Mefferd Show to warn that the memo is part of a “liberal-Marxist agenda” that seeks to destroy the military in order to remove “traditional American values” and “take God out of society so that people become dependent upon government.”

Air Force rules limit size of tattoos, role of gospel

Just days before retiring as Chief of Staff of the Air Force, Gen. Norton Schwartz issued a document designed to dictate the conduct of U.S. airmen worldwide — all violations enforceable by military law. For the first time, amid regulations on tattoo size and flag handling etiquette, it laid down the law on religious proselytizing by leaders: Don’t do it.

Section 2.11 of the 27-page Air Force Instruction AFI 1-1 Standards of Conduct is the latest salvo in a battle over religious bias and Christian proselytizing in the military branch. It calls on officers and supervisors to “avoid the actual or apparent use of their position to promote their personal religious beliefs to their subordinates or to extend preferential treatment for any religion.”

The document’s section on religion echoes a memo Schwartz sent out to all Air Force leadership on religion last September, but adds the threat of penalty for violations.

“COMPLIANCE WITH THIS PUBLICATION IS MANDATORY,” the memo says in bold, adding that “failure to adhere to the standards set out in this instruction can form the basis for adverse action under the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ).”

Can you be prosecuted for being Christian? No
Can you be prosecuted for forcing it onto others or using it as justification for discrimination? Yup

Tebow really hurt his stock by refusing to play Tight end and stubbornly only wants to be a NFL QB. His only hope is to be a backup on some team willing to take a chance on a poor passer. The Jets thought he could run the wildcat or change of pace offense. The NFL has clamped down on the Wildcat schemes. Defenses have adjusted and one rarely sees Wildcat plays now..
I watched some NFL film that showed Tebow making passes in practice in NY. You could hear coaches groan in the background. The Jets realized what they had acquired and this is why he didn’t replace Sanchez when he got hurt.. So he didn’t get screwed at all..You have to earn a start in practice before anybody gives you the reins to lead a team on Sunday.

The Saudi Embassy in Washington also denied in a statement that Tsarnaev had applied for a visa to make the pilgrimage to Mecca.

“The Saudi government had no prior information about the Boston bombers. Therefore, it is not true that any information, written or otherwise, was passed to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) or any other US agency in this regard. The Saudi government also does not have any record of any application by Tamerlan Tsarnaev for any visa to Saudi Arabia,” the embassy said in the emailed statement through its public relations agency.

GOOD QUESTION.

Actual answer: he was enough of a scary bulldozer in the college game to force defenses to crowd the box, and he’s accurate enough to pick on a weak corner one-on-one. Against the larger and faster athletes of the NFL, where his legs are less of an up-the-middle threat (and with NFL offensive coordinators, who are borrrrrrrrrring as shit), he has to face a more populated secondary and he’s not accurate enough to deal with that.

Think Eric Crouch.

The CFL is a much more passing-oriented league than the NFL. I don’t know if he has a future there, either.

I bet he would make a pretty good Arena league QB…

I refuse to give twitland any business of any kind, but it’s times like these when I would dearly love to be able to ask this man if he’d be fine with Muslim or Buddhist commanders getting to force their conversions speeches on the troops as well as the Christian ones, and then follow up with WHY DO YOU HATE FREEDOM?!

I hope so - that could lead to some interesting details.

I’m not seeing the part of the laptop in the trash in that affidavit.

Another RW outrage of the day is a supposed survey out that shows something like 60% of Americans do NOT support Obamacare

they only support the policies in obamacare, not obamacare

The results would be quite interesting, I think, if you took out the phrase “Obamacare” or “Affordable Care Act” and instead replaced it with an actual description of the policies with no identifying mark of where they came from.

Does anyone else get the impression that now that this story is getting some scrutiny some higher-ups at the Mail forced a rewrite? It’s kind of interesting what’s changed between the initial version and the current. For example:

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia sent a written warning about accused Boston Marathon bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in 2012, long before pressure-cooker blasts killed three and injured hundreds, according to a senior Saudi government official with direct knowledge of the document.

The Saudi warning, the official told MailOnline, was separate from the multiple red flags raised by Russian intelligence in 2011, and was based on human intelligence developed independently in Yemen.

Citing security concerns, the Saudi government also denied an entry visa to the elder Tsarnaev brother in December 2011,when he hoped to make a pilgrimage to Mecca, the source said. Tsarnaev’s plans to visit Saudi Arabia have not been previously disclosed.

In the rewrite, the definitive, confident tone is replaced by “allegedly”s and the background attribution has subtly changed for no apparent reason:

According to a highly placed source who spoke to MailOnline, the Saudis sent a written warning about Tsarnaev to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in 2012. That was long before pressure-cooker blasts killed three and injured hundreds.

The official told MailOnline about a written warning from the Saudi government to the Department of Homeland Security, and said he had direct knowledge of that document.

But the Middle Eastern nation’s embassy in Washington died that account on Wednesday.

It issued a statement which read: ‘The Saudi government had no prior information about the Boston bombers. Therefore, it is not true that any information, written or otherwise, was passed to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) or any other US agency in this regard,’ an embassy statement statement claimed.

‘The Saudi government also does not have any record of any application by Tamerlan Tsarnaev for any visa to Saudi Arabia.’

Citing security concerns, the Saudi government also allegedly denied an entry visa to the elder Tsarnaev brother in December 2011, when he hoped to make a pilgrimage to Mecca, the source said. Tsarnaev’s plans to visit Saudi Arabia have not been previously disclosed.

And will be greeted with flowers and candy.

Wisconsin Church Cancels Former NFL Player’s Speech For Supporting Jason Collins

Get a load of this:

Butler believes the church’s decision constitutes bullying. In fact, when he tried to resolve the situation with the church’s pastor by saying, “We agree to disagree,” the anti-gay pastor countered, “No, I’m right and you’re wrong.”

Butler’s controversial tweet?

Congrats to Jason Collins

Wow, the irony is thick with this one.

BTW, “Pastor”, you’re a very un-Christlike dickhead.
