Three College Students Arrested for Helping Tsarnaev Brothers

Very bad decisions

From left, Azamat Tazhayakov and Dias Kadyrbayev, from Kazakhstan, with bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev in New York

In the Boston bombing investigation, three college students have been arrested and will be charged with helping the Tsarnaev brothers cover their tracks after the attack.

The US Attorney’s office confirmed that three men arrested in connection with the attacks face charges of conspiring to obstruct justice and making false statements.

Azamat Tazhayakov and Dias Kadyrbayev, both 19 and originally from Kazakhstan, will be charged conspiring to obstruct justice and making false statements.

The third suspect, Robel Phillipos, 19, of Cambridge, faces charges of making false statements.

According to the criminal complaints, Tazhayakov and Kadyrbayev helped the Tsarnaev brothers after the bombings by throwing away possible evidence, including a laptop and a backpack full of fireworks that was in the UMass Dartmouth dorm room of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

Here are the complaints against Azamat Tazhayakov and Dias Kadyrbayev (PDF).

UPDATE at 5/1/13 1:19:53 pm

Azamat and Dias, by the way, are the ones who were questioned earlier by police — the Daily Fail wrongly reported at the time that they had been arrested, and tried to make a big deal out of their “Terrorista #1” novelty license plate. (Which was based on a line in “Harlem Shake,” and wasn’t a sekrit confession.)

Your buddy has just been identified as one of the most wanted men in America…and you think the smartest thing you can do is try to get rid of the evidence.

I’m pretty sure that qualifies for some sort of award for sheer stupidity.

I sort of get trying to help a friend who you think might be falsely accused, but when he’s accused of blowing up a bomb and you find a bunch of explosives, you’re not being terribly observant or clever.

Enjoy your trials, folks.

They will have many years, if not decades, to contemplate the stupidity of their actions while rotting in a federal prison, unless they can get the feds to cut them a deal for testimony against Dzhokhar.

Beck: God Must Destroy Us Because We Are Becoming an Affront to Him in Every Way

On today’s radio broadcast, Glenn Beck got pretty worked up about the fact that the jury in the trial of Kermit Gosnell has now entered the second day of deliberations, since Beck thinks it is an open and shut case and it should only have taken them seconds to find Gosnell guilty.

That eventually prompted Beck to declare that this nation has become so evil that God “has got to destroy us; we are becoming an affront to him in every step of the way. We are denying his existence. We are denying his power. We are slapping him in the face. We are killing his children” before he broke down weeping, tearfully begging God to forgive us and remember that there are still millions of people here who are good:

Man angry over Boston bombings breaks jaw of ‘f*cking Muslim’ Iraq war veteran

A 39-year-old Muslim cab driver who served in the Iraq war says that an executive from an aviation company accused him of being a jihadist and broke his jaw in what activists are calling a hate crime.

Mohamed A. Salim told The Washington Post that Emerald Aviation President Ed Dahlberg attacked him after he picked him up at Country Club of Fairfax in Northern Virginia at around 2 a.m. on Friday. Dahlberg had been drinking and was told that he would have to finish his open beer before getting into the cab.

Salim recorded audio of the encounter on his cell phone.

Dahlberg can be heard asking Salim, who emigrated from Somalia, to define “jihad” and then lumping him in with “radical fucking Muslims blowing people up all over the world.”

“Denounce those motherfuckers now!” Dahlberg demands. “If you’re a fucking Muslim flying jets into the fucking World Trade Center then fuck you. I will slice your fucking throat right now.”

After Salim threatens to call 911, Dahlberg can be seen grabbing for the cell phone.

Salim said that Dahlberg left the cab, but then returned and broke his jaw before running into the woods.

In the United States of America, you are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, before a jury of your peers, beyond a reasonable shadow of a doubt.

Tennessee Commissioner Refuses To Apologize For Anti-Muslim Picture On Facebook

A Tennessee County Commissioner doesn’t see anything wrong with a Facebook post he put up that led to Muslims feeling threatened.

The photo was posted to Coffee County commissioner Barry West‘s Facebook page, drawing consternation from Muslim groups who came across the image. In the photo, seen at the right, a double-barreled shotgun is pointed at the viewer with the caption “HOW TO WINK AT A MUSLIM.” The image soon went viral, causing West to take down the original post from his page.

Remember the Bali Bombing? The hate preacher who was convicted of being involved in it:
1) was given only 3 years for treason
2) it was reduced to 1
3) the prison warden and politicians wanted to be photographed respectfuly hugging him before he was put away…

Poll: 29% Think Armed Rebellion Might Soon Be Necessary

Three in 10 registered American voters believe an armed rebellion might be necessary in the next few years, according to the results of a staggering poll released Wednesday by Fairleigh Dickinson University’s PublicMind.

The survey, aimed at measuring public attitudes toward gun issues, found that 29 percent of Americans agree with the statement, “In the next few years, an armed revolution might be necessary in order to protect our liberties.” An additional five percent were unsure.

Eighteen percent of Democrats said an armed revolt “might be necessary,” as compared to 27 percent of independents and 44 percent of Republicans. Support levels were similar among males and females but higher among less educated voters.

OT, anyone planning to check out this new movie The Purge?

Here’s the synopsis:

The year is 2022. The United States is a nation reborn; unemployment rates are at 1% and crime is at an all-time low. This was accomplished by the U.S. government sanctioning an annual 12-hour period from the evening of June 7 to the morning of June 8 in which all criminal activity — up to and including murder — becomes legal.[3] The police can’t be called. Hospitals suspend help. This annual event, known as The Purge, serves as a catharsis for the American people, giving them a chance to vent the negative emotions they keep inside of them with the ultimate goal of keeping unemployment and crime at extremely low levels for the rest of the year. On this night plagued by violence and an epidemic of crime, one family wrestles with the decision of who they will become when a stranger comes knocking. When a stranger screaming for help is let into James Sandin’s protected house during the yearly lockdown, a sequence of events begin that puts the family’s chances of survival in danger. Now, it is up to James, his wife, Mary, and their kids, Zoey and Charlie, to make it through the night without turning into the monsters from whom they hide.

Sounds intriguing.

Every two years, we get to elect a new Congress, and 1/3 of the Senate. Every four years, we get to elect a new President.

What’s the justification for armed rebellion in a Republic? The wrong people voted?

The wrong person was elected president or more accurately the person they disliked the most on the ballot was elected president.

I think I find it much more believable that 19 year old males can have poor judgement and make impulsive decisions than that they are competent enough to have concealed that their friend was plotting beforehand but utterly incompetent in everything afterwards.

You know one thing that counties like Malasia DON’T do, is put Islamist terrorists in prison for long periods of time.

Remember the Bali Bombing? The hate preacher who was convicted of being involved in it:
1) was given only 3 years for treason
2) it was reduced to 1
3) the prison warden and politicians wanted to be photographed respectfuly hugging him before he was put away…

Islam before country you know.

Do you live in the US? If so, that’s your concern.

That too but you’ve got to admit that right wing hostility towards the government has gone up since Obama became president. Sure there was hostility towards the government when Bush was president but I highly doubt 44% of Republicans would support an armed uprising if McCain or Romney were residing at 1600 Pa Avenue today.

I find it easy to believe that 19 year olds are confused enough to support slaughting innocents because they’re Americans and Americans are evil. I’m not saying they planned it, I’m saying they didn’t mind it.

Eighteen percent of Democrats said an armed revolt “might be necessary,” as compared to 27 percent of independents and 44 percent of Republicans. Support levels were similar among males and females but higher among less educated voters.

Important part bolded.

The morons that think armed revolt is even an option in this day and age are, well, morons.

I am so sick of hearing people say “fuck the south, let ‘em secede”. You know what? There are A LOT of liberals down here. What happens to us then? Got a contingency plan for that or is it just Fuck You, too bad you were too stupid to be born or move here? We’re the UNITED States, and I don’t give a fuck what secessionists preach, they’re a teeny minority of idiots who aren’t going to do anything but shit their pants every morning when they wake up because their lives suck so hard and they know they have no chance in hell of escaping the shitty lives they created for themselves. Let ‘em secede? Then we might as well break up into 50 separate countries.

Must be nice to sit on your tuffet and proclaim the only liberals worth anything are in the blue states.

One of the 3 arrested is an American citizen.

Also, the timeline fits much more with a group of friends panicking, making an impulsive decision with some really bad judgement involved, and getting caught. Your mileage may vary, of course.

In some ways, I am not at all surprised by the stupidity on display here.

These were college freshmen males. The intersection between that group and intelligence/critical thinking is generally not large.

Half /.

They were college freshman males from a former Soviet country where the police are, in general, terrifying, corrupt, and your enemies. I have been to Kazakhstan and have been terrorized by the police there, and my reaction to the proximity of a possible crime/criminal in Kazakhstan would NOT be the same as my reaction here. I would NEVER cooperate with the Kazakh police. I would, however, bar the door and call my bodyguard.

On the other hand, what the heck were they doing driving a black BMW, whatever its license plates? Anybody from Kazakhstan with that much money is probably related to the police.

There is a lot wrong with this post.

It was Indonesia, not Malaysia.

Abu Bakar Bashir was found not guilty of treason, but guilty of immigration offences. Indonesia traditionally gradually reduces sentences for good behaviour in prison rather than grant parole. This reduced his 36 month sentence to 20 months.

He was subsequently tried and convicted for inciting others to commit terrorism and is serving a 15 year sentence.
