I just noticed that CL had a ruptured aneurysm. It is a good thing that she called an ambulance and got to the hospital. I hope she gets better soon.

Yes, I’m glad she got care for that right away.

Charles I just noticed that every time I check my karma I get kicked out of the thread. Is anyone else experiencing similar or other problems?

Charles, none of the buttons seem to be working right. The ding buttons just send me to the front page, and the reply and quote buttons do nothing at all.

I’ve been messing with some code, sorry ‘bout that. Reload the page and everything will be fine.

Whenever you get that “kicked out to the front page” thing, it means there was a Javascript error, and it will be fixed shortly. I try to test on my staging server as much as possible before deploying, but sometimes little bugs slip through.

Well, we’ll see if he can win the Preakness. You can’t tell too much from a race on a muddy track, since some horses simply do much better than others on muddy ground.

And the weather doesn’t always favor those you expect it to favor. See Payton Manning’s Superbowl win helming the Colts. I was one of the many people who though an outdoor game in the rain could not fail to favor the Bears, since Indy plays in a dome. But the Bears had trouble holding onto the ball, and Manning had far such trouble.

Syria’s civil war
Closer to the capital

“…A year ago many believed that once the war had reached the centre of Damascus, the conflict would soon end. Those hopes have faded. Rebel fighters worry that they could get just as bogged down in the capital as they are in Syria’s second city, Aleppo. Stalemate has reigned there since last July. During that time the regime has bombed rebel districts to ruins, while internecine competition between rebel groups has flourished.

It could be even worse in Damascus, since Mr Assad’s forces are entrenched on Mount Qassioun, whose towering height offers a platform from which the regime can launch air and missile strikes.”

If so he’s fishing in the wrong pond.

Over all, among the 10 American-based information technology companies on the Forbes list of “most admired companies,” Mr. Obama raised 83 percent of the funds between the two major party candidates.

Tech industry types tend to dislike Republican politicians for several reasons, but the big three are the endemic bigotry, distain for science education and the opposition to immigration reform. Going negative against Obama in that environment is likely to alienate far more people than it impresses.

He may be expecting his anti-Obama line to be the line carried by the local news. One reason congresspeople and Senators make these kinds of appearances is to get facetime on the local news (which is still how more Americans get their news than from any other source).

OT:

Holy shit did Doctor Who have a twist at the end.

So, at the end of the episode, the kids that Clara have been caring for find out about the Doctor and her’s adventures, with various pictures through history. In addition, Clara is now aware of her Victorian London incarnation. She only visited Victorian Yorkshire this episode. Next episode will have those kids. Then, the finale. "The Name of the Doctor."

Thomas, a former Woodmere officer, still is not back to work. She lost a finger in the encounter. Savage had minor injuries to his left thigh. He is back at work, the chief said.

I’m glad they’re relatively ok after that.

117 Bubblehead II  Sat, May 4, 2013 6:06:54pm

Well CL, come join the conversation. You have scared the hell out of us. How are you doing?

118 Charles Johnson  Sat, May 4, 2013 6:07:21pm

The “Show Users” feature is not always accurate to the minute, due to the vagaries of the HTTP protocol.

119 ProTARDISLiberal  Sat, May 4, 2013 6:07:38pm

Next week can’t come soon enough.

120 Walking Spanish Down the Hall  Sat, May 4, 2013 6:08:21pm

Hey CL. You have no idea how relieved we are to see you.

121 ProTARDISLiberal  Sat, May 4, 2013 6:10:38pm

Oh look, Niall Ferguson was a massive douche today.

Historian and author Niall Ferguson apologised has apologised “unreservedly” for “stupid and tactless” remarks in which he implied that John Maynard Keynes did not care about future generations – because he was childless and gay.

122 Charles Johnson  Sat, May 4, 2013 6:17:27pm

Just testing…

Oh look, Niall Ferguson was a massive douche today.

LOL DARVO. If anyone “doesn’t care about future generations”, it’s anti-science, social-safety-net-shredding, Ayn-Rand-corpse-humping wingnuts like Ferguson.

124 Bubblehead II  Sat, May 4, 2013 6:18:58pm

Heading over the the US Believes Israel conducted raid thread. C.L. is rating comments there.

re: #121 ProBosniaLiberal

Oh look, Niall Ferguson was a massive douche today.

as I put it on the page about that:

Keynes remains one of the most important economists of the 20th Century and odds are the General Theory will still be used in Economics centuries from now. It may well be to “disprove it” as many try to do today with Karl Marx, Adam Smith, or David Ricardo.

Nothing Ferguson has written will be remembered more than a decade after he’s in his grave.

This lashing out is his way of dealing with the jealousy that knowledge causes.

“To qualify, you must have previous experience outdoors, good bear-spotting chops and experience with firearms.”
NRA conventioneers take note; you could put all that practice to use.

re: #123 Interesting Times

It’s sort of amusing to see some of the comments there.

There were a few with British and Americans blaming each other for the Lord of Assholes.

Sorry Britain, he’s all yours. :D.

128 Bubblehead II  Sat, May 4, 2013 6:36:30pm

Well Spy just showed C.L. saw my message (she updinged it) to come join us here on the main thread. Hope she does.
