Michele Bachmann (R-Mars): 9/11 and Benghazi Were God’s Judgment

Wingnuts • Views: 26,673

rightwingwatch.org

On Wednesday, Religious Right activists and members of Congress gathered together for a prayer event held in Statuary Hall at the US Capitol called “Washington: A Man of Prayer.”

Among the speakers was Rep. Michele Bachmann, who used the opportunity to promote the 9/11 prayer event being organized by Birther-king Joseph Farah, saying that “it is no secret that our nation may very well be experiencing the hand of judgment” and declaring that both the original 9/11 attack and the attack in Benghazi on 9/11 of last year were God’s judgment.

As such, the only recourse, Bachmann said, is to humble ourselves before God and cry out in repentance for this nation.

I thought God would be a bit more flood and earthquake, fire and brimstone rather than suicidal zealot. Care to comment Michelle?

That was my thought. If God, Allah to Zeus, take your pick, wanted to punish a nation I think it would be more, um, spectacular than that.

MY judgement is that Ms Bachmann is an idiot and kind of a jerk.

7 Godisdeadandburied  Fri, May 10, 2013 2:53:50pm

How many conservatives does that make that have now said that God was punishing an evil America with the 9/11 attacks? With Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, Dinesh D’Souza, Mike Savage, and now Bachman, that makes it 5 and counting.

8 Decatur Deb  Fri, May 10, 2013 2:57:29pm

Doesn’t that make rebuilding the WTC tower sort of blasphemous?

Well, lets find out! [gets out slide rule, mumbles equations], divide by the exponential of .911, carry the one, and voila!

The final answer is: all of them.

Please Michele, please run for president the next election. God really wants you to run, the last time was just a test, but he’s really serious this time. The republican party and the tea party need and deserve someone like you running for president.

Think I over did it?

Religious fundamentalism, antivax, full TP. That is the Bubble that is now a malignant tumor within the GOP.

35 Dark_Falcon  Sat, May 11, 2013 9:50:10am

The bubble effect made its first famous appearance 1972, via Pauline Kael of the New York Times. While bubble effect is seen somewhat more on the right these days, it first showed up with a liberal lament: “I can’t believe Nixon won! No one I know voted for him.”

One gets that feeling that if Michelle Bachmann were to run for president, many wingnuts would have similar feelings when she lost. As for me, I said back in 2011 that I could never vote for her for president, and that remains my position.

But the majority of the Republican party does accept the efficacy of vaccines, even many fundies do (notably including the Duggars, who are seriously wacked fundies, but all of their kids are vaccinated). Anti-vaxxers don’t rule the GOP, hence the objection. In both parties, they represent a conspiracist fringe whose real issue is fear of government and large corporate entities.

Also another bombing in the Turkish Town.

Also, this is getting ugly with Libya and the MB in another way:

The accusation that MB-supporting people in Libya are not loyal to the country, but to Cairo and Morsi/Mohammed Badie. Essentially, this is a repeat of the Anti-Semitic trope of Jews not being loyal to a nation, but to Israel/Jewish Community/What Have you.

If MB loses, you could see massive persecution of anybody MB related.

If you mean Croatia’s retaking of the Krajina, that actually wasn’t so bad. Yes most Serbs fled the area, but given Serbian chauvinism and inability to tolerate the presence of others of that time, Serbian flight from areas their military had been expelled from was inevitable.

It is also worth noting that Bosnia’s Muslims supported the Croat offensive, and 3000 Bosnian soldiers took part in it. Details here.

It would indeed be more reasonable. The Croats weren’t aiming for genocide; their objection was the expulsion of Serbian military forces from their territory and the 4-day duration of the operation is a proof of that. Operation Storm was a short blitzkrieg-style offensive intended to rout an enemy army out of an area, not to kill the area’s civilians. Civilian deaths occurred, but as a byproduct of the offensive, not as its object.

As an aside, it is worth noting that Israel Military Industries (IMI) had given Croatia a production license for their famed Uzi and Mini-Uzi, and Operation Storm was the license built Uzis first large scale use.

Why do conservatives hate college?

Oy,

A right wing friend of mine said if Romney had been President on 9/11/12, he would have responded by “levelling Libya to the ground”.

Never mind September 11 was BEFORE the election, my friend just didn’t seem to understand why taking such an approach would have been a really, REALLY bad idea. He seemed to be of the opinion that there would be virtually no backlash from such a decision whatsoever.

I disagree. Mitt Romney isn’t that stupid or ham-handed. But his refusal to be so would have enraged many wingnuts.

Stupid is as stupid does.

A presidential candidate who went to the NAACP in order to tell them to their faces that they’re scroungers for wanting health care for the working poor is scum below scum, he is limitlessly stupid and ham handed, he is Donald Trump with a better mask.

Well, maybe better hair, but that is about it.

That reminds me, back when Trump was positioning himself for a possible run I read this farcical suggestion for a campaign slogan for him:
We Shall Overcomb!

Most of the speculoation I’m seeing is spillover from Syria, which is certainly possible, but Kurds have been blowing shit up in Turkey for quite some time. Could be anyone responsible but doesn’t look severe enough to create a game changing event for the region. It seems the “red line” with Syria was a bluff and nobody’s rushing to get involved. Despite some support for rebels, live is what non-interventionism looks like. It’s not pretty.

I was thinking at breakfast this morning that all this GOP posturing for 2016 seems like a waste of resources and more “show than go” as it were.

I mean that election is OVER THREE YEARS AWAY!! Maybe we could, like, you know focus on the issues of 2013 and save all the Presidential crap for a year or so?

One thing I miss about Canada. There are no fixed elections. You never know when they are coming so you can’t be in permanent campaign mode like in the U.S. Also, a Canadian election from announcement to voting takes place in a few MONTHS. It’s a not years long ordeal like in America.

Six weeks. The election writ is dropped by the Governor General and then in six weeks the election is over.

Although, as Our Dear Leader demonstrates, that is no guarantee of wise governance.

Here’s another self-interested wealthy jerk abusing the legal system in Texas:

Hotze to File Suit Over Federal Health Reform

Because Hotze’s business, Braidwood Management, has more than 50 employees, the law requires him to purchase employee health insurance or pay a $2,000 penalty for every full-time employee above a 30-employee threshold.

My business has more than 30 employees, and we pay full medical insurance.
It’s very possible to do, but you might not get to squeeze your employees in order to be a “prominent Republican donor.”

You’re not up on events in Turkey, are you?

Did you see the original article about this guy? He’s a alternative medicine quack who used to have a radio show on a station owned by a member of the legislature.

Also, I thought I read somewhere that the entire state of Texas has no fire code, is that right or did I misunderstand? About a decade ago my husband did fire safety work for his old employer in Texas and he said they used to have some of the toughest codes in the country.

kitteh emergency!
Momma cat vacated the shop sometime Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. Her food and water haven’t been touched since.
After digging around in the storage area, we just found FIVE kittens!!!
They will be two weeks old on Monday. Eyes are open and they are VERY noisy (driving the dogs nutzo).
I sent hubby off to the store for some Similac. Anything else I can/should do before I can get them to the vet’s office on Monday?

As with many states, the TX State Fire Marshal’s office uses the NFPA 101 Life Safety Code as its standard of inspection; many municipalities and counties may have their own fire marshals and their own specific fire codes (or not, as we’ve come to find out about West, TX).

OK, I am familiar with NFPA, the husband has/had some sort of certificate from them for classes he took several years ago. I wish I could remember where the hell I read that Texas has no codes now, but I swear I read it somewhere shortly after the mess in West, TX.
