Daily Caller Cooks Up Another Stupid Scandal, Commenters Spew Vile Racism

“Umbrellagate?” Are they serious?
Wingnuts • Views: 30,990

YouTube

The mind-numbingly stupid right wing fake outrage of the day: yes, now they’re even going after the President for asking Marines to hold umbrellas for himself and the Turkish Prime Minister. I just can’t even.

The hacks at wingnut propaganda site The Daily Caller lead the charge, but it’s on every single right wing blog and media website, of course, because they do this stuff in lockstep unison like good little authoritarians: Obama Breaches Marine Umbrella Protocol | the Daily Caller.

Did Obama “breach protocol?” Let’s see what the Marine Corps has to say about it:

Seeing a Marine with this particular accessory is “extremely rare,” Marine Corps spokesman Capt. Greg Wolf explained, but because the president’s the commander in chief of the Armed Forces, if he says “hold my umbrella,” it’s permissible.

The sad thing is that this laughable story actually ended up on the front pages of the New York Post, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, The Washington Times and the Los Angeles Times.

This is why the wingnut lockstep army does this kind of freakishly moronic outrage-mongering — because the mainstream media enables it.

Meanwhile, again as usual, the commenters for the Daily Caller’s rage-inducing article are, yes, spewing all kinds of vile racism. They got the subtext right away — it’s a white man holding an umbrella for a black President.

I thought afro-sheen was waterproof?

[…]

Just another occasion where Obama shows his “superiority” to any and everyone around him. Shameful.

[…]

Just another example of the illegitimate Kenyan illegal alien’s arrogance, ignorance, and contempt for the military - and the Marine Corps in particular.

[…]

Next they’ll be carrying shopping bags for Michelle as she strolls ‘Miracle Mile’ looking for a bargain.

I would roll that umbrella up and shove it where the sun don’t shine. Kenyan Fraud. III%

Allow me to retort.

A Reply to M. Joseph Sheppard by Eric Steinberg, once and always USMC

Shut your cockholster, you civilian sack of shit.

It has come to my attention that there is a dickwad committing fuckery out there, a certain “M. Joseph Sheppard” (R- FauxBrigade) who styles himself an authority on, well, anything at all, but most gallingly on the subject of Marine Corps Uniform Regulations. This subhuman motile turd has the effrontery to misquote the regulations of my beloved Corps, an offense that shall not go unpunished; indeed, the crimes of this cancerous, corrupt lesion against Nature, Man, and USMC are so grave that they may require the most extreme sanction*, if only to insure that the ass****/charlatan in question will never again pronounce the word “Marine,” nor scrawl it with his soon-to-be-shattered hand**. Even now a tribunal is being assembled, to be followed by a posse and then a lynch mob***. And then the Dead Hooker Disposal Unit****.

This will not stand! I, for one, will not sit idly by whilst that venereal skinflap, “Sheppard,” besmirches the glory of the United States Marine Corps with his outright lies, and his continued existence. God, and The Corps, fashioned my brother Marines and me into weapons; hammered the weakness out of us; and sharpened our fighting spirits for the very purpose of beating the Holy Living Fuck out of puke-scented twats like this “Sheppard,” and that is what we shall do. The ghost of Chesty Puller has spoken to me, and I have communed with the spirit of Smedley Darlington Butler, and they both told me to crack this dumb motherfuckers’ skull, right after I rip off his stupid fucking baseball cap and fistfuck him with it*****. Who am I to argue with a direct lawful order? So stand the fuck by, Mr. Shitstain Umbrella Fucker — this here jarhead is about to administer some corrective action.

Echo Three Sierra OUT.

Oh yeah — Semper Fi.

Reposted from downstairs:

White House, June 24, 1906.

DARLING ETHEL:
To-day as I was marching to church, with Sloane some 25 yards behind, I suddenly saw two terriers racing to attack a kitten which was walking down the sidewalk. I bounced forward with my umbrella, and after some active work put to flight the dogs while Sloane captured the kitten, which was a friendly, helpless little thing, evidently too well accustomed to being taken care of to know how to shift for itself.

That’s right- saving kittens from fierce predators before you were even born.

It’s actually a variation on parade rest, but other than that, yeah. Ceremonial troops; Marines, the Army’s Old Guard & those of the AF & Navy; are hard core men and women who give honor to our nation simply by existing.

MORE UMBRELLA ESCAPADES

In one article, Teddy Jr recalled his first time in Washington, “…..when father was civil service commissioner I often walked to the office with him. On the way down he would talk history to me—not the dry history of dates and charters, but the history where you yourself in your imagination could assume the role of the principal actors, as every well-constructed boy wishes to do when interested. During every battle we would stop and father would draw out the full plan in the dust in the gutter with the tip of his umbrella. Long before the European war had broken over the world father would discuss with us military training and the necessity for every man being able to take his part.”[4]

Let’s see. Obama can order Marines to attack, defend, shoot people or go into lethal harms way. He “”“should have sent them to Benghazi to fight”“”

But what he is absolutely allowed to do is ask a Marine for a little help with an umbrella or two.

Hmmm. Fascinating thought “process” there. Process like how McNuggets are made maybe.

Full Disclosure About Me: (so you do not assume that I am far left/far right)
I like Reagan. His strength made me feel safe.
I like Clinton. What I wouldn’t give to have him as POTUS again!
I do not Bush. I could go on and on for the reasons I do not, but why bother?
I do not like Obama. It is not because of this that I don’t like him. I have so many, many, many reasons why I want him out of The White House. Some of you will most likely disagree and I am not trying to start a debate here, so I won’t get into that.

I will say that I feel that him having a Marine hold his umbrella was in poor taste and absolutely wrong. Being that he is our commander in chief, I do feel that he should have someone hold his umbrella if need be during his speeches, I just feel that he could of had a White House staff member do it. And the fact that he said, “they’re going to look good next to us,” makes my blood boil. I understand it was his idea of a joke, but it seems a little belittling to me. Marines are heroes. They need not stand next to anyone to “look good”.

You may interested in this article recently listed on the MSN dashboard: now.msn.com
It says that a male Marine can’t hold an umbrella while wearing his uniform. It does go against the U.S. Marine Corps policy but because he is POTUS, it is permissible. Being that obama doesn’t even know how to say Marine Corps, I doubt if he knew that there is such a regulation. But regardless if he knew it or not, or if it was permissible or not, I still feel it was in poor taste.
But, that’s just me!

You really don’t think that the Office of the Chief of Protocol would know what the rules and regulations are, or that if the President requested the Marines to hold the umbrellas that they could do so - by operation of fact that as Commander in Chief he was issuing a lawful order?

Exceedingly rare, but not unheard of.

Oh, and there are 4 Marines attached to the White House detail at any given time. It’s one of the most prestigious postings. If the President asks, they’re going to go ahead and honor requests from the President, even if it is contrary to the regulation on umbrellas.

But really, this is what the GOP and right wing want to spend their time arguing about? That the President, while doing a presser with the Turkish leader, was having Marines hold an umbrella?

Well, I guess Benghazi and IRS and AP are going so well that they needed another nontroversy to hang their hat on. Oh wait, the Benghazi isn’t really taking off, the IRS scandal exposes what the real problem is - a tax code that Congress enacted that is full of problems, and the AP scandal could be solved if the GOP accepts Democrats’ plans for a media shield law, that is if they don’t accept the fact that the Administration was doing what the GOP had been demanding all along - to find and prosecute those leaking documents to the media.

Good. It’s time for the White House to hold the line on this. Congress has to either agree to change spending patterns (which means compromise) or pay for the costs that are already incurred.

The Marines look great in this video. Their uniforms and bearing are perfect. It is detestable for the ignorant RWNJs to claim that this action somehow demeans the Marines. I think it might be a good idea to have them around anytime the press rabble is there, just to emphasize official dignity for the sake of contrast.

And thus we get to the GOP’s big reason for pushing these scandals hard, namely that with the CBO’s new debt forecast, they have nowhere to turn. The “debt explosion” is no more, deficits are falling, and healthcare spending has virtually flatlined. There’s nowhere near enough money in the discretionary spending to cover another debt ceiling hike, “entitlement reform” is wildly unpopular when people actually hear what the GOP wants, and “tax reform” that does nothing to raise revenues is likewise a major joke.

I love how people still can’t let go Obama mispronouncing “Corps” even though that happened a million years ago.

Ain’t it remarkable? They remember that utterly irrelevant moment, and yet none of them remember the president kicking the Republican Caucus’ ass, both during a televised Q&A session where he skull-fucked Eric Cantor AND Virginia Foxx, and during the healthcare debate. In fact, one of the quickest ways of shutting down a teleprompter-troll in an online argument is to bring up “that time the president turned an impromptu hour-long Q&A with the republican caucus into an hour and-a-half” because he’d eaten his way through half their idiotic talking points and realized this was like a grandmaster’s first-round in a Swiss, under accelerated pairings. re: #84 Big Steve

It has been addressed a couple of times, but let’s step back and look at the issue’s actual facts.

The TIGTA issued a report. That report came out following the early leak last Friday that the IRS may have improperly treated certain applicants for 501(c)(4) status. The report however indicates that TP/conservative type groups comprised 30% of the total number scrutinized by the IRS group that is supposed to examine all applicants.

The kinds of questions are invasive, but that’s due in part to the fact that the law doesn’t actually state what constitutes a given level of (some, substantial, etc.) political activity that would invalidate the applicant’s status as a 501(c) entity.

The solution is not firing IRS officials, but to fix the law. One fix could be to clarify that any lobbying or political activity invalidates 501(c) status and they’d have to register as a 527.

The training that the IRS examiners got was incomplete and led to problems, but that’s because the underlying law was a mess on the subject. Trying to fix the problem on the fly as new political issues came up added to the mess - TP applicants soared, and other entities rushed to get registered as well to take advantage of 501(c) status - and examiners couldn’t keep up with the registrations.

He should spend all that extra time finding out exactly what every IRS agent is doing.

The stupidest thing about the whole IRS fake scandal is that there’s not even any evidence (that I’ve seen) that the agents were actually politically motivated. If I’m given a 10,000 row excel spreadsheet and someone says “find all the political groups on this list and by the way you have two hours”, am I going to start word-searching for “tea party” in the name? Of course I fucking am because that’s a quick way to start filtering.

Now that’s not to say that the agents didn’t have political biases - maybe they did. But it’s a million miles away from, I don’t know, some hypothetical situation where the White House instructs the Department of Justice to fire a bunch of people because they are suspected of having Democratic leanings, and replacing them with under-qualified Republican boosters.

But no, we have to wait for Republican hacks to come up with more doctored bullshit revealing why Obama is personally responsible for initiating armageddon via his meddling in low-level bureaucracy.

No matter what part of the political spectrum you are on, it gives us the willies to think that the the IRS is acting with a political bent or that its employees would.

Actually it’s getting rather fun in wingnut land as they chase the wrong rabbit.

The IG investigated on three subjects, two of which had a subordinate question. Paraphrasing both subject and response:

1) Was Tea Party (etc) political label used (wrongfully) as a test to send applications for special review as political organization? /yes/
2) Were applications in the political review suffering excessive delays? /yes/
2a) Were the delays discriminatory; were only the Tea Party et al applications being so delayed? /no/
3) Were applying organizations sent follow-up questions that were unnecessary and excessive? /yes/
3a) Were these requests discriminatory going only or predominately to Tea Party et al? /no/

Pay attention to the “no” reports above. See, the RWNJ raging is about the delays (question 2). As a consequence they’re talking lawsuits and RICOs and a host of other things that aren’t going to happen; that are basically going to reinforce the “raving lunatic” meme. It’s driven in part because the IRS has always been a target. But … we’ve got people with three of a kind acting like they’ve got a straight flush.

Minor digression but I’m waiting for the investigation and recommendations of question four. See, originally the IG was going to pursue four questions per congressional request. But because the fourth required different areas of investigation and a few other things it was made separate. From the report:

“Lastly, several members of Congress requested that the IRS investigate whether existing social welfare organizations are improperly engaged in a substantial, or even predominant, amount of campaign activity.

12 A future audit is being considered to assess how the EO function monitors I.R.C. §§ 501(c)(4)-(6) organizations to ensure that political campaign intervention does not constitute their primary activity.”

Looks like BitCoin has hit a snag.

US authorities seized the accounts of a Bitcoin digital currency exchange operator, claiming it was functioning as an “unlicensed money service business,” court documents showed Friday.

A warrant revealed by the Department of Homeland Security showed a judge signed the seizure order Tuesday for the accounts of Mutum Sigillum LCC, a subsidiary of Japan-based Mt. Gox, the world’s biggest Bitcoin exchange.

The warrant said the account based on the electronic payments platform Dwolla and held at Veridian Credit Union “was used to move money” as “part of an unlicensed money service” in violation of US law.

Money laundering concerns, perhaps?

Gallup: Public interest in IRS, Benghazi stories below average

Imagine, most of the population isn’t interested in these stories after the Republicans cried wolf for the 10,000,000th time.

That’s what happens when the latest outrage is Umbrellagate.

Here’s a guy holding an umbrella over Reagan and the First Lady. He is not in a military uniform though. Is that what is bothering these wingnuts, that a marine provided that service?

Obama is commander in chief, the guy in charge should not have to hold his own umbrella it’s simple military chain of command.

Would you expect a general to hold his own umbrella if a private was standing next to him?

The President was trying to handle a situation to avoid his guest being uncomfortable. He didn’t want the Prime Minister to be in a wet suit the rest of the day. Sometimes you have to think on your feet.
