There’s been speculation previously that Boston bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev might have been involved in an unsolved triple homicide in Waltham, Mass. in 2011, and this morning in Florida, FBI agents shot dead a Chechen man who allegedly confessed that he helped Tsarnaev commit the murders. CBS News has more details:

Law enforcement sources told Orr that the man, a Chechen identified as Ibragim Todashev, implicated himself and Tsarnaev to authorities in the 2011 killings in Waltham, Mass., under questioning Wednesday at Todashev’s apartment in Orlando, Fla. …

Sometime after midnight Wednesday morning in Orlando, an FBI special agent from the bureau’s Boston field office was accompanied by at least two troopers from the Massachusetts State Police and a Joint Terrorism Task Force agent to question Todashev, the sources said. The questioning primarily focused on the 2011 killings.

While the FBI’s investigation into Wednesday’s shooting is ongoing, the preliminary details are that after Todashev implicated himself and Tamerlan Tsarnaev he became angered when authorities pressed him for a full confession, the sources said. Todashev brandished a knife, prompting the officials to feel that their lives were in danger.

The FBI agent then shot Todashev and received some minor abrasions in the process, the sources said.

The Tsarnaev brothers and Todashev apparently knew the three people killed in Waltham, the sources said, describing the 2011 killings as brutal and grisly, with all three bodies nearly decapitated. The bodies had marijuana and thousands of dollars in cash sprinkled on them.

You’d think if the Tsarnaevs had access to that sort of cash, they’d have cobbled together a better bomb than a damned pressure cooker.

Nice planning, fellas. F for effort.

Drugs and money. Even when it isn’t about drugs and money, it’s about drugs and money.

I wonder if there are more ‘friends’ like him out there?

I’m sure the FBI is looking to see if there is.

Was in custody or did they question him at his residence when he pulled out the knife? They said this started at midnight…..why the HELL would they go to a residence at midnight. Not trying to sound like Alex Jones…..but something is strange here.

Insert joke about bringing knife to gunfight.

Probably trying to catch him off balance. Still, as soon as he implicated himself, he should have been arrested, mirandized, moved to a secure holding facility, and then they could have tried to get a full confession. They’d be less likely to get it, but more likely to be able to use it in court, plus they’d have a live suspect.

Sorry for the Wednesday afternoon quarterbacking.

(In best Sean Connery voice)

“Jusht like a Wop Chechen - bringin’ a knife to a goonfight.”

Piers Morgan just banned Dana Loesch from his show for asking sarcastically if the guy who beheaded the British soldier was a member of the NRA. Classy, Dana.

WTF? That doesn’t even make sense.

She tweeted the question and Piers took offense to it.

Sorry for the quick OT, but defense attorneys have released scores of new photos in the George Zimmerman second-degree murder case. One thing that caught my eye that continues to provide evidence that Zimmerman is a dishonest fraud:

There are also two new photos of Zimmerman in a cap and gown at a graduation ceremony at Seminole State College. School records show that although he went through the ceremony, he did not graduate because he failed an astronomy class in the fall of 2011.

In short, George Zimmerman has zero credibility. He lied about his financial situation, lied about his passport, now this….

In fairness, it’s not uncommon for such a graduation ceremony to occur before final grades are actually in. I had a number of friends who were retroactively ungraduated by a particularly challenging senior course.

Their parents were, how do you say, not so thrilled.

re: #12 GeneJockey

I think she was trying to say the NRA is blamed by media for crimes, or something. I dunno. Doesn’t seem appropriate given the circumstances.

Loesch was probably angling towards making a ‘knife control’ remark as well.
