Former CNN Contributor Erickson: “Christ Could Throw a Punch”

“Vengeance is mine!” - Right Wing Jesus
Wingnuts • Views: 29,869

Reacting to the Boy Scouts’ decision to admit openly gay youths as members, RedState founder and former CNN contributor Erick Erickson lapsed into full-on swivel-eyed fanatic speaking-in-tongues mode tonight on Twitter, culminating in this glimpse into his tortured psyche:

“Wrath, Vengeance, and Redemption” — wasn’t that the title of the last Whitesnake album? Or was that Stryper?

Eric must be referring to the Infancy Gospels of Thomas, where the young Jesus was quite a cut up, killing things for fun then bringing them back. Sort of like that character Billy Mumy played on the Twilight Zone episode It’s a Good Life.

I Endorse Mark Sanford for Congress

By: Erick Erickson

“…Conservatives take the hardest line and exile their own who have failed them to the sidelines.

They should. We have values and when those values are betrayed by those who fight with us, we must often show them tough love and show them the door.

But we do a terrible job with forgiveness and rehabilitation. Mark Sanford walked out of the Governor’s Mansion and out of public life for a while. He comes back as conservatives in Congress are fighting on all fronts, out numbered, depressed, and needing every man capable of manning the ramparts.

Mark Sanford can man the ramparts. Unlike his opponents, he has a stellar and uncompromising record as a limited government, pro-life, fiscal conservative.”

Yeah, that’s pretty much the gist that Erickson, Fischer, and the other whiny RWNJs are going for.

As someone who has a gay brother, gay co-workers and friends, and who has been active in Scouting since I was 11 (in 1986; do the math ;-P), I’d like to tell those asshats that National’s decision is a start in the right direction, but it still doesn’t satisfy me since adults have been expressly excluded from this policy change.

Back when I was in LA, I once flipped off a driver that was being a total jackass. My reward for this was getting tailgated half way to work, deliberately bumped when stopped at a light, and getting left with the firm conviction that if the jackass had a gun in his glove box, he’d have taken a shot or two.

I learned to drive in the Chicagoland area, so my driving is by nature very aggressive and angry. Also, driving through the downtown area of the Twin Cities tends to skew my driving in that direction. Apparently, Gomez has been bashing Markey over being “soft on Homeland Security.”

Markey seems to have reacted to this. Thing is, with all the rape, molestation, and voyeurism scandals in the US Military, combined with a handful of generals still deciding to be holy rollers and trying to force Evangelical Christianity, my respect for the military has fallen a bit. Just because someone was in the military doesn’t mean I’ll defer to them.

Hell, I know someone who joined the military for political porposes. Went to USAFA, got immediate deferment to Harvard to study “Public Policy.”

When he was in USAFA, he had a girlfriend that was in High School that was a friend of mine. And that’s compounded by the fact he took he out drinking when she was underage.

Classy Guy.

The Markey campaign has pushed back by pointing out that the bin Laden image comes from a video made by the Special Operations OPSEC Education Fund, which accused President Obama of trying to exploit the killing of bin Laden for political gain. Gomez appeared on MSNBC in August 2012 to defend OPSEC and spoke to

I am a democrat because I believe that no man or group of men is good enough to be trusted with uncontrolled power over others. And the higher the pretensions of such power, the more dangerous I think it both to rulers and to the subjects. Hence Theocracy is the worst of all governments. If we must have a tyrant a robber barron is far better than an inquisitor. The baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity at some point may be sated; and since he dimly knows he is doing wrong he may possibly repent. But the inquisitor who mistakes his own cruelty and lust of power and fear for the voice of Heaven will torment us infinitely more because he torments us with the approval of his own conscience and his better impulses appear to him as temptations..

But that was C.S. Lewis, a thoughtful, well-educated and read, and fundamentally tolerant and decent man, a product of an earlier age.

Erick Erickson is a product of the modern media age, where angry rants are the stock in trade, genuine intellectual debate is considered ideological apostasy, and volume is substituted for actually making a point.

Intellectually dishonest statement is intellectually dishonest:

Senate blocks $60 billion infrastructure plan, another part of Obama jobs bill

After Claiming To Support Infrastructure Investments, House GOP Blocks Infrastructure Investment Plan

Republicans block infrastructure spending bill

Republicans blocked an infrastructure spending bill that was part of Obama’s American Jobs Act. The reason for their opposition? A 0.7% surtax on people earning over $1 million per year.

But as the additional links in my updated comment show, blocking infrastructure spending because it was paid for by a tiny surtax on millionaires is douchebaggery in the extreme.

When you post a photo of a bridge collapse and the very next thing you post is a comment about taxes (before it is even known why the bridge failed), then you are the one who brought in politics. Erik could have disputed the money figures NJDHF put out, as you have done, but that isn’t what he did. What he did was to lambast NJDHF as follows: re: #125 erik_t

Goodness, you’re fast. Can you share with the class why the bridge fell down, and if there were any previous indications it was or should have been on the short-list of bridges due for replacement? I haven’t been issued my talking points yet.

There are still people in the fucking river, for Christ’s sake. Can you hold off on the politicking for, I dunno, an hour?

So to recap: Erik_t brought up the issue of taxes before making any other commentary, and then responded to criticism by attacking his critic for “politicking” as well as demanding information about why the bridge fell down.

It was a poor series of posts that relied on your agreement with their author on some of their issues to skate by after having been hypocritical. Don’t fall for it, PS.
